From the network that brought us recent ripped-from-the-headlines biopics about Casey Anthony, Jodi Arias and Drew Peterson comes one about … Anna Nicole Smith? The late model, as seen in last night’s Lifetime original film Anna Nicole, left an indelible mark on a then still-developing reality TV and celebrity culture. Agnes Bruckner took on the tragic, titular role of the woman whose life saw so many ups, downs and bizarre turns that were stranger than fiction. “I was very nervous and anxious, because she was so iconic and so famous and larger-than-life. I asked myself ‘Am I going to pull this off?’” Brucker said. “‘What kind of movie are we making?’ I asked all those questions. We really wanted to tell a different story, and that gave me the confidence to play her.” That different story is one of a woman whose life played out in real time in front of viewers for years – something now commonplace for Kim Kardashian et al. It is also a tale of tragedy for a mother who welcomed a daughter, Dannielynn , just before she lost a son, and met her own demise in early 2007. Whatever your opinion of Anna Nicole Smith, any parent can understand the struggle to go on after losing a child, a rare constant in a whirlwind of a life. In the end, the film is pretty standard for Lifetime celebrity fodder, if not slightly better in the emotions, events and themes it chose to focus on. The five most memorable moments from Anna Nicole: 1. Bruckner’s transformation. Yes, it’s what actresses do, but this is one heck of a woman to transform into, given her wildly fluctuating weight and appearance. Smith flashed her boobs to crowds, pole-danced on football field (in front of her son), got hammered while pregnant, and went balls to the wall, 24/7/365. That’s not an easy person to embody, but Bruckner did so admirably. 2. An extension of #1 perhaps, but seeing Bruckner acting out the clown scene was so bizarre, it defies description. Incredibly, it happened in real life, too. Donning eerie clown makeup and slurring her speech, a pregnant Anna Nicole Smith claimed her baby was “just gas” as Howard K. Stern filmed it. It was a have-to-see-it-to-believe-it moment, a haunting reminder of how far she had fallen by that point and a harbinger of tragic events to come. 3. Anna Nicole’s son Daniel was the unexpected star of the film. Through the years, we saw his unconditional love and vulnerability, how Anna’s hard living impacted him, and how he succumbed to similar troubles himself. 4. Rather than flashbacks, there were flash-forwards to Smith in that iconic red dress, as if Anna Nicole were destined to be pulled out of Vickie Lynn. 5. The whole J. Howard Marshall romance was kind of odd, at least it was played up that way here, as if he just wanted to have some fun and dote on Smith. No doubt the billionaire did that, to a point, but what was undoubtedly a layered and complex relationship felt overly simplistic and glossed over. What did you think of Anna Nicole? Did you watch? During this time of year, many of us spend our days counting down to the end of the year with a myriad of thoughts about what “could have been.” You know how it goes: the blaring reminders on TV, radio, and even at holiday parties that you’re single, couldn’t afford the best gifts or the pricey plane tickets to fly across country to be with family. What I’ve learned over the years is that no matter who is not there, what money we may not have, or how far away our families may be, there’s something bigger that we can always rely on to give us the love we all desire. There are many clichés about the holidays and the “real reason for the season,” but in its truest essence, God’s greatest gift to us is the unconditional love that remains available every day of the year. God’s love for us is real, tangible, and everywhere we go. He tells us in Romans 8:37-39: Yet amid all these things, we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us. For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. How great His love is for us! It surpasses all heartbreak and deficits that we have encountered throughout the year. Don’t have that special someone to shower with love and gifts? Consider showing love to those in need who aren’t as fortunate as you Money is tight and can’t give gifts? Bake some cookies or other sweets, bag them up, and share with friends and family! Can’t get home for the holidays? Use Skype to see the bright and shining faces of those you love! A shift in perspective keeps the most perfect love of all at the forefront and teaches us to lean on the blessings we have. Enjoy the holidays and feel the love from the one who sacrificed the most for us! The awards honor “fair, accurate and inclusive representations” of the LGBT community in television and journalism. Big winners of the night included “True Blood,” which won for Outstanding Drama Series, and “30 Rock,” which won for Outstanding Individual Episode (in a series without a regular LGBT character) for its “Klaus & Greta” episode. Entrepreneur Russell Simmons was honored with the Excellence in Media Award. Ricky Martin took home the Vito Russo Award, which is presented to a “lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the LGBT community.” In his speech, Martin credited GLAAD for helping him cope in the wake of his public coming out last year on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” He then went on to push for Latin American gay rights and asked that GLAAD stand up for those who can’t in that community. “I just want to be free. I can say today I’m free,” he said at the event. “And for that I definitely need to thank my parents for being so supportive, my mother and my dad for their unconditional love, and my friends, my family, my fans. And my partner in crime and my boyfriend Carlos.” That was only the beginning of the accolades for those projects and people nominated, with additional GLAAD awards scheduled to be handed out in Los Angeles on April 10 and in San Francisco on May 14. ‘I am 100% behind Lindsay,’ Matthew Wilder tells MTV News about his Linda Lovelace biopic star. By Kara Warner Lindsay Lohan in court Tuesday Photo: MTV News Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab for violating probation on Tuesday (July 6), and one person offering the actress his unconditional support is Matthew Wilder, who will direct Lohan in “Inferno,” a biopic about ’70s porn star Linda Lovelace . “This is a sad chapter in the ongoing tragicomic circus between the tabloid media and the ‘justice’ system,” Wilder wrote in a statement to MTV News. “An outrageously outsized sentence garners attention for all the players involved, but brings only sadness to the poor soul who has to serve it. I am 100% behind Lindsay and can say the same for everyone involved in the production of ‘Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story.’ Indeed, we are proud to have this remarkable artist work on our film. And as for the haters relishing this moment, I can only quote Jesus in ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’: ‘And those who are laughing now…will be crying after.’ ” Regarding how Lohan’s sentence will affect the “Inferno” production schedule, Wilder wrote that they will shoot when “this chapter is finished, and we’ll all happily put it in our rear-view mirror.” Wilder has been steadfast with his support for his star. “I love her so much,” he told MTV News in May. “I think she is so fantastic. I am amazed every day. I’ll read some blurb in some gossip thing, and I will read the user comments that are so hateful. … It’s so weird. I think people have a really twisted, wrong impression of who she is, what she’s all about, and the bottom line is that she is a brilliant actor. We’ve worked on this movie, rehearsed it, read it, and she is great. I think she is as good as anyone in her age group. I hope this will turn the story for her a little bit and remind people that this is someone who is serious about acting and who is really different from the cartoon portrayed in the tabloid press.” Related Photos Lindsay Lohan Goes To Court The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Related Artists Lindsay Lohan
