President Obama Aghast at Notion of Peas in Guacamole

Gay marriage? Health care subsidies? The 2016 Presidential Election? Please.  President Barack Obama has a far more important subject to debate: the mere suggestion that one ought to put peas in one’s guacamole. The New York Times published an article on Wednesday, July 1 that dared to make this recommendation, as the venerable newspaper Tweeted along with the photo posted above: Add green peas to your guacamole. Trust us. The accompanying piece argued that including peas with this chip-themed delicacy adds an “intense sweetness and a chunky texture to the dip.” But a certain Commander-in-Chief strongly disagrees. “Respect the nyt, but not buying peas in guac,” Obama tweeted. “Onions, garlic, hot peppers. Classic.” As you might expect, the President’s own list of essentials sparked their own bit of online outrage, but let’s save his guacamole recipe for another time. Now, we simply want to know your take on this escalating situation: peas in guacamole? Yay or nay?!?

Brother Trayvon EBONY Magazine Dedicates September Issue To Trayvon Martin With 4 Different Covers Via ClutchMagOnline Ebony Magazine recently released the cover images of its upcoming September issue and it’s clear the venerable publication is taking a stand. The September issue features four striking covers dedicated to the memory of Trayvon Martin. One cover features Martin’s parents and older brother, Sybrina Fulton, Tracy Martin and Jahvaris Fulton, while three additional covers feature celebrity dads–Spike Lee, Boris Kodjoe, and Dwyane Wade–with their sons. According to the magazine this “groundbreaking” issue will “explore concerns around racial bias, how to find solutions for those concerns and how to heal and move forward.” The editors of Ebony say the September issue was inspired by “the watershed moment experienced by the Black community after the ‘not-guilty’ verdict in the George Zimmerman trial,” and the magazine “devoted four separate September 2013 cover issues to Trayvon Martin and explores the ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws.” Sounds like an issue worth spending a couple dollars on. Former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash is still receiving major accolades for his work on “Sesame Street” despite facing a string of accusations from young men who say he took advantage of them sexually. Via Fox News reports : Kevin Clash, the Elmo puppeteer who resigned amid allegations that he sexually abused underage boys, won three Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on “Sesame Street.” Clash won as outstanding performer in a children’s series at the creative arts ceremony held Friday night. He shared trophies for outstanding pre-school children’s series and directing in a children’s series, giving Clash 26 Daytime Emmys for his work on the venerable PBS show. He played Elmo for 28 years before quitting last November. Clash’s lawyer has said that related lawsuits filed against the entertainer are without merit. The main Daytime Emmys ceremony is Sunday in Beverly Hills. Congrats Kevin! You might not have a job but at least you get to go out on top! WENN

Was Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway the biggest fashion loser of the 2013 Oscars? Her Prada gown left many viewers with that sentiment. Bland. Confusing. Ill-fitting. Inappropriate. Anne Hathaway’s Oscars dress inspired all of those descriptions Sunday night from the moment the Les Miserables stunner stepped onto the red carpet: The front flap was held up by criss-cross straps around the neck and a wider band that tied at her back, sectioning the open back into several parts. As a result, the top was shaped by two darts on the bust line that end just where the nipples are supposed to be, making for a seriously awkward look. When someone as gorgeous as Hathaway wears a dress that makes you want to avert your eyes from the chest, you know it’s not a fashion win. When she walked up to E!’s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, she sort of looked like she was coming at the venerable host with headlights blazing. Oscars fashion . The good. The bad. Les Miserables .

Imagine the COMPLETE AND UTTER SHOCK, then, when she dined with Justin Theroux at the Chateau Marmont in L.A. last week and STEERED CLEAR OF ALCOHOL! “She had only fruit juice, while the guys were sipping wine and beer,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style . You know what that means: Jen’s pregnant with twins! Beverage choice aside, how does this venerable tabloid know Jen is having kids? “Jen was seeing ob-gyn Dr. Robert Katz in Beverly Hills regularly this spring to see how fertile she is,” an insider said. “She had a million questions about getting pregnant after 40 and just what is involved with in vitro fertilization.” Apparently it’s working, because “Jennifer was looking radiant, tanned and healthy! She and Justin sat holding hands! Justin had his arm around Jen’s waist.” Congratulations to the happy couple on their fake babies.

Justin Bieber Super Bowl ad to plug Best Buy

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — This year’s Super Bowl broadcast will feature star-studded ads, with Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne teaming up for a Best Buy spot, and with Kim Kardashian headlining an ad for Skechers. Teen crooner Justin Bieber will star in Best Buy’s (BBY, Fortune 500) first-ever Super Bowl ad on Feb. 6, when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers for the biggest football game of the year. Best Buy confirmed that he’ll be co-starring with the venerable heavy metal front man and reality TV star Osbourne, but didn’t provide details of how the two would be co-pitching electronics in the 30-second spot. “We’re delighted to have Justin and Ozzy help us tell the Best Buy story,” said Drew Panayiotou, senior vice president of U.S. marketing at Best Buy. “We know people have high expectations for these ads, and Justin and Ozzy add a whole new dimension of fun.” Meanwhile, Skechers (SKX) has recruited reality TV star Kardashian for a 30-second spot in which she’ll pitching Shape-ups. That’s a type of shoe that “simulates walking in sand” to burn extra calories for people who don’t have time to work out, according to Leonard Armato, president of Skechers Fitness Group. “The reason Kim is a perfect brand fit for Skechers Shape-ups is that she is an extraordinarily huge celeb and her life is as busy as it gets,” said Armato. “Between her reality show, her appearance and the fast-paced social scene that she travels in, she’s time starved.” A sneak peek at Super Bowl ads In the ad, Kardashian will “be breaking someone’s heart in front of 100 million” viewers, Armato said. Other Super Bowl ad celebrities include workout taskmaster Jillian Michaels, who will appear in a GoDaddy spot with race car driver Danica Patrick, and country singer Faith Hill, who will appear in a Teleflora spot. Fox will be broadcasting the game, which is scheduled to be played in Arlington, Texas.

Larry King Announces Retirement

After a quarter century on the air and amid some pretty significant personal controversy of late, Larry King will hang up the suspenders this fall. The talk show host, 77, announced on Tuesday he will end his run on Larry King Live in the fall but will remain with CNN for occasional specials. The decision to retire was made to “give me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games,” the venerable newsman said. Larry and wife Shawn Southwick have been embroiled in marital problems this year, both filing for divorce at one point before calling it off. King was accused of an affair with Shannon Engemann , Shawn’s sister, while she has been tied to their kids’ little league coach of all people. Hopefully Larry and Shawn can work things out. In May, his wife, who has a history of painkiller addiction, was found with empty pill bottles strewn on her bed in a possible suicide attempt . They have been married over a decade and have two young sons. “Larry King defined the art of the TV interview,” CNN said. “His candor, curiosity and compassion are legendary, and his ability to interview people from all walks of life – world leaders, celebrities and everyday people – has made him an icon.” “With this chapter closing I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring,” King added. We wish him the best with that.

Last Comic Standing may not have a sterling reputation, but I’ve never known it to actually frighten viewers. Unfortunately, the venerable standup hour took a dark turn this week, introducing us to a “futuristic” comedian named Mr. Zed who looks like a Madame Tussaud’s rendering of Wink Martindale. Hide the kids! And the grown-ups.
