Despite the obstacles, Councilwoman Hurt is continuing to push for the name change and will do whatever it takes to bring her vision to fruition. “It’s Oprah. Nashville is in a very unique position to be able to offer that type of recognition to someone that’s very deserving,” said Hurt in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I think it’s a grand opportunity for us to recognize someone of Oprah’s stature.” Hurt also added that the city of Nashville needs to do a better job of acknowledging the contributions of notable Black figures. She was at the forefront of getting the Metro Council to rename a part of Charlotte Avenue after Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oprah Winfrey has deep ties to Nashville. She graduated from East High School and then went on to earn her degree from Tennessee State University. She also launched her career in television in Nashville. The decision will be left up to the Nashville Airport Authority board. News about the possible renaming of the airport comes around the same time of the unveiling of President Barack H. Farrah Abraham to Bristol Palin: You Can’t Handle Teen Mom!

Bristol Palin was brought on to Teen Mom OG as Farrah Abraham's replacement. But Abraham would like to now make one thing clear: No one can replace her! And everyone wants to be her! This is basically what the occasional porn star told TMZ when asked about comments Palin recently made , sort of at Farrah's expense. Abraham tried really hard in the interview to rise above this simmering feud, but she simply couldn't resist getting in a few jabs at Bristol and the other Teen Moms as well. Scroll down to see what she had to say and then read Bristol's comments that started it all… 1. Don’t Get Me Started! Asked by TMZ for her thoughts on Palin complaining that MTV was editing footage to make her look like a Farrah-like villain, Abraham tried to stay above the fray. “She doesn’t matter to me nor does Teen Mom” in general, the former star told a cameraman at the airport on Thursday, December 13. 2. Okay, Fine. Now I’m Starting… “The only thing MTV and Teen Moms use my name for is to get publicity for the show,” she continued, trying to emphasize that she has moved on. 3. She’s Sort of Moved On We mean, she’s STILL employed by MTV and is STILL a reality star. Abraham has signed on for the new season of something called Ex on the Beach. 4. As for Bristol, Though? “Bristol isn’t prepared to be on national television or Teen Mom or understand production. That’s why she brings my name into it,” Abraham told TMZ. 5. And Then She Got Personal: “I’m an amazing mother, I don’t know about her,” Farrah continued. “She makes the best choices for her life, maybe Teen Mom isn’t the best choice.” 6. That’s Actually Reasonable The way Palin has talked about the show and her portrayal, it sounds as if she was expecting something else entirely. Was she not prepared to have her life and her relationship dramatized by a network that specializes in doing exactly this? View Slideshow

Springing Into Action: Nelly Allegedly Comes To The Rescue During A Dust-Up On A Dubai Yacht

Source: Tim Mosenfelder / Getty Nelly Broke Up A Fight During A Dubai Yacht Party There was reportedly an incident in the desert last week when a fight broke out on a yacht full of rappers while they were sailing near Dubai–it was the result of a number of party go-ers eventually being questioned by the police about the situation. According to an exclusive report from Page Six , a brawl is said to have broken out on a party yacht. Guests in attendance at this shindig included rappers Future and Akon, with one unfortunate guest getting a bottle thrown right in their face. A “spy” told Page Six that Nelly  is the one who ended up springing into action once the violence started. “When Nelly heard the commotion, he went running in to help the person who was hit in the nose,” their source told the publication. The “Country Grammar” star along with others were said to be questioned by local police about the fight, but Nelly was in the clear following his heroism in the situation. The region was filled with so many big stars because of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 25. Post Malone, The Weeknd, French Montana, Tyga, Craig David, Guns N’ Roses and Sam Smith all performed concerts in the days surrounding the race, which ended up being won by Lewis Hamilton. The Weeknd’s show actually ended up being cut short when rowdy fans stormed the gates at a local arena. “The show had to stop early because it was so dangerous,” a source for Page Six recalled. It’s lucky for everyone involved that none of the stars in attendance got arrested following the alleged fight. Back in 2015, Future’s DJ, Esco, was arrested during the Grand Prix after being caught with marijuana at the airport. He ended up spending a whopping 56 days in jail in a harrowing experience that inspired Future’s album 56 Nights . “When they arrest you, they don’t have to say, ‘You have a right to this’ . . . There’s no judge, no jury. They assign you to a prosecutor, and the prosecutor can just do what he wants with you. They don’t have to tell you anything. They don’t even have to explain what the charge is.” At the airport after he was freed, he said, he bought headphones, ice cream and cookies, “and I was like, ‘I can’t believe this. Like, what just happened?’” Good on Nelly for breaking up a brawl that could have gone downhill quickly.

Southwest Airlines Apologizes, Says No One Should Laugh at the Name Abcde

The internet lost its mind after learning that a woman named her actual daughter “Abcde.” The furious mother complained that her child had been mocked by an airline employee who couldn’t believe the name on the boarding pass. Now, Southwest Airlines is apologizing profusely. Traci Redford says that her 5-year-old daughter, whose actual name is Abcde, was insulted and mocked by an airline employee. The girl’s name is pronounced ab-city . And yes, it is objectively funny on every level. However, Traci was not amused when a Southwest Airlines employee at John Wayne Airport in California laughed at the name on her daughter’s boarding pass. She was even less amused that the employee apparently photographed the girl’s name on the boarding pass in order to share it on social media. Now, Southwest has issued an apology. In a statement to People , Southwest Airlines profusely apologized for their employee’s very human reaction. “We extend our sincere apology to the family,” the statement begins. “We take great pride in extending our Southwest Hospitality to all of our Customers,” Southwest continues. The statement continues: “which includes living by the Golden Rule and treating every individual with respect, in person or online.” “The post is not indicative of the care, respect, and civility we expect from all of our Employees,” the airline says. “We have followed up with the Employee involved,” Southwest’s apology continues. That sounds … unpleasant for everyone involved. “And,” Southwest says. “While we do not disclose personnel actions publicly.” The statement continues: “we are using this as an opportunity to reinforce our policies.” Hopefully, that means making it a teaching moment, rather than making an example of those involved. “And,” Southwest concludes, they are working to “emphasize our expectations for all Employees.” Traci Redford spoke about the ordeal that her daughter experienced at the airport. “The gate agent started mocking my child’s name, laughing” Traci described. Traci said that the employee was “pointing at me and my daughter and talking to other employees.” “So,” Traci described. “I turned around and just said, ‘Hey, I can hear you, so if I can hear you, my daughter can, too. I’d appreciate it if you’d just stop.'” Apparently her daughter was puzzled: “She asked me, ‘Mom, why is she laughing at my name?’” “And,” Traci continued. “I said, ‘You know, honey, not everybody is nice, and not everyone is going to be nice, and it’s unfortunate.'” “While I was sitting there,” Traci accused. “She took a picture of my boarding pass and chose to post it on social media.” Traci clearly resents the employee apparently “mocking my daughter,” “It was actually brought to my attention by somebody who had seen it on Facebook,” Traci reveals. Yeah, we do have to say that, laughter may be involuntary, but uploading to social media? That’s a choice. (The “thirst” equivalent of this situation would be, like, the Alex From Target incident) “And,” Traci concluded, she “reported it to Southwest Airlines.” Children cannot help their names. Even adults have to go to court in order to get their names legally changed, and it takes time and money. As funny as a name like Abcde may be, it is totally inappropriate for anyone — especially an employee in the service industry — to mock a child to her face. Children can be very sensitive to these things. Instead, people should focus their ire on the mother, who cursed her with that name — which looks like a joke or a typo — in the first place. Someone who is not a Southwest employee should have explained to her that she was setting up her daughter for decades of ridicule. From elementary school classrooms to job applications, her daughter is going to face challenges that she does not deserve because of that name. View Slideshow: 22 People That Are Actually Named This

Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower: It’s Over After More Than 20 Years

As much as we enjoy acting legend Robert De Niro’s feuding with Donald Trump , De Niro has now entered a very different conflict. He and his wife, Grace Hightower, have reportedly separated and are living apart. The couple has been married for more than two decades. People reports that Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower have separated. Having married in 1997, the two of them have been together for more than twenty years. Now, they are apparently living apart. As for the reason why, People ‘s report really can’t say. All that their source reveals is that: “Sometimes things don’t work out the way you hope or want them to.” That is certainly true. De Niro is 75. Hightower is 63. The couple shares a 20-year-old son, Elliott, and a 6-year-old daughter, Helen Grace. Their daughter was born via surrogate. Notably, this is not the first time that the couple has split. In 1999, just two years after getting married and one year after their son was born, De Niro filed for divorce. The couple also engaged in a custody dispute over Elliott, who was a baby at the time. Ultimately, they reconciled, never finalizing their divorce. In 2004, they renewed their vows. De Niro has been married once before. In 1976, he married Diahnne Abbott. Together, they have a son named Raphael. De Niro also adopted Diahnne’s daughter, Drena De Niro. It is through these two that De Niro has four grandchildren. He split from Diahnne in 1988. In 1995, he had twin sons, Aaron Kendrick and Julian Henry de Niro. They were conceived via in vitro fertilization and delivered via surrogate during his relationship with Toukie Smith. Despite his generally very good political views, De Niro has not been without controversy. Part of that controversy arose from De Niro’s interest in autism, as his son Elliott is autistic. Most infamously, in 2016, many of his fans felt betrayed when he supported Vaxxed for the Tribeca Film Festival. Vaxxed is an absurd “documentary” that purportes a widely debunked theory that there’s been a cover-up over a causal link between vaccines and autism. De Niro ultimately withdrew his recommendation after discussing the film with the scientific community. (Obviously, not only do vaccines not cause autism, but even if they did, only a monster would prefer a dead neurotypical child to a living and healthy autistic kid) It came to light that Andrew Wakefield, the film’s infamous director, had been in contact with Hightower. Wakefield reportedly told the couple “your family’s life [has] been blighted by autism.” Sometimes people with special agendas target celebrities with misinformation in order to gain a platform for their ideas. Has fallout over this disagreement played a role in the downfall of this marriage? We honestly have no idea. They’ve been married since 1997, folks. All relationships, all marriages, end one way or another. Perhaps it is simply time for them to move on. Or maybe they’ll work things out again and, in a few years, they’ll renew their vows. We wish their entire family the best. View Slideshow: 19 Most Bitter Breakups in Hollywood History

Kailyn Lowry: I Haven’t Seen My Dad Since 2009 … And I’m Glad!

Whether you love her or hate her, there’s no denying that Kailyn Lowry had one hell of a rough upbringing. Obviously, the most publicized aspect of Lowry’s adolescence was her teen pregnancy, which led her to seek solace and shelter with Jo Rivera’s family after being abandoned by her mother. In the years since, Lowry has described her mother as an alcoholic and stated that the two have them seldom have any contact. She’s been less vocal on the subject of her father, and it turns out there’s good reason for that. As she revealed in a recent tweet, Kail hasn’t seen her father since Thanksgiving of 2009. “The week of Thanksgiving 2009 was when I met my dad for the first time,” Kail tweeted yesterday. “And even though we haven’t met again. That was an important time in my life.” If you’ve been with the Teen Mom/16 and Pregnant franchise from the very beginning, then Kail’s revelation may not come as much of a surprise. As In Touch Weekly points out , Kailyn’s reunion with the man who impregnated her mother was captured by an MTV camera crew. “I met my sperm donor for the first and last time on 16 and Pregnant . I was 17-years-old and I never looked back. He doesn’t reach out and neither do I,” she stated in an interview earlier this year. “It gets lonely around holidays and I’m sad for my kids during those times…but I wouldn’t be where I am today if things were different.” So when Kail says the meeting with her father constituted an “important time” in her life, we assume she means that it solidified what she had long suspected: She would be forced to face the challenges of adulthood without any support from her parents. Lowry affirmed this sad reality in her most recent memoir:  “I didn’t ever have an example of a mother or father when I was growing up,” she wrote in A Letter of Love . “Since I didn’t have a point of reference on how to love, I desperately want my boys to understand that I have tried to love them in the best way that I can.” These days, not only is Kail a loving and devoted mother, she’s also a wildly successful businesswoman who has launched and maintained a one-woman media empire worth millions. We think it’s safe to say she’s one apple who fell very far from the tree. View Slideshow: Kailyn Lowry Announces “Pothead” Haircare Line, Gets Shamed By Ignorant Trolls

Paris Jackson: Spiraling Toward Another Mental Breakdown?

Paris Jackson is a model, a free spirit, and a person who’s unafraid to clap back at her own family from time to time. But recent sightings and reports have fans and family concerned about her well-being. Is Paris headed for another emotional breakdown? RadarOnline reports that family and fans alike are worried about Paris Jackson. The model and actress was spotted walking through LAX on November 12. Her demeanor was described as “zombie-walking” and her shirt and general appearance were described as “slopping.” Not usually what you’d expect from a model who’s also the daughter of the late King of Pop. Allegedly, this has added fuel to the fire of concerns that Paris is heading towards another emotional or mental breakdown. According to RadarOnline ‘s report, those who love her are seriously worried. “Paris has been out of control,” the insider claims. Well, she’s an adult, so it’s not like anyone should be controlling what she does. The concern is that Paris herself is not fully in charge of what she’s doing. “But,” the source continues. “There’s nothing the family can do!” It’s natural to be worried about your loved ones — but is their alleged fear justified? Let’s start with the eyewitness description of how she looked at the airport. Folks, she was at the airport, not a runway, not a funeral. Some people get all dolled up and formally dressed every day of their lives. The rest of us only put on pants if we have to leave the house. Paris probably dressed in comfy clothes for flying on an airplane and also for sleeping on said airplane. Just a guess. Plenty of people look less than their best after a flight. Most of us just don’t have busybodies reporting on our demeanor afterwards. And then there’s Paris’ behavior over the past year. Early this year, Paris nearly plummeted to her death while dancing on a rooftop. Those of us with a sensible fear of heights and zero inclination to risk our lives ever were horrified to watch her nearly lose her balance. She was not alone, however, and she didn’t fall–she just stumbled. But temporarily wobblings near the edge of a roof is not the same thing as climbing up to a great height and contemplating jumping. It was scary, but probably not a real red flag. Fans were happy to spot her  locking lips with Cara Delevingne , but saddened when their relationship seemed to fizzle out over the summer. When Cara was seen with  Pretty Little Liars  star Ashley Benson, some worried about how Paris would feel. But Paris made it very clear on social media that she and Cara were never exclusive, anyway. Besides, much more recently, it’s been all about Paris and Gabriel Glenn . We don’t think that her non-exclusive relationship with Cara coming to a close drove her mental health over the edge. Also, though Paris mourned her grandfather, Joe Jackson , she has loving family and supportive friends. We don’t think that his passing gave her a breakdown. It just made her sad. Paris is a hippie. She likes pot. Her hair isn’t always picture-perfect. She has a very chill approach to most things in life. That’s just part of who she is, as a person. It’s understandable that fans, especially those who are younger, might be concerned about her when they hear rumors. And it’s expected that some of her family might wish that she conducted herself differently. Paris is her own person and a free spirit, and ultimately, she’s going to live her life on her terms — instead of worrying only about optics. Good for her.
