George H.W. Bush In Intensive Care

The health condition of former United States President George H.W. Bush appears to be deteriorating, as the 88-year-old has been in intensive care since Sunday. Bush’s camp says it is ” cautiously optimistic ” for his recovery, but clearly things haven’t improved since Bush was hospitalized in November due to bronchitis. Jim McGrath, Bush’s spokesman in Houston, Texas, said in a brief email that Bush was admitted to the ICU at the city’s Methodist Hospital on Sunday. Bush has been visited by daughter Dorothy and sons Neil, Jeb and George W. The 41st Commander-in-Chief’s fever has gone up in the last few days, and doctors have been unable to control it. Few other details are available at this time. Here’s hoping for the best for H.W. and family.

Although the position of First Lady, or as Sarah Palin dubbed it, “First Dude,” is not mentioned in the Constitution, the president’s spouse is a part of the package voters decide upon every four years. With the exception of Barbara Bush, every First Lady going back to Pat Nixon–I don’t have any clear memories of their predecessors–have been a lightening rod for criticism. Barbara Bush Jabs Sarah Palin: ‘I Hope She Stays’ In Alaska

Barbara Bush has shared her thoughts on Sarah Palin, and it sounds as if she hopes the former Alaska governor decides against running for president. “I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she's very happy in Alaska,” Bush said, before adding, “and I hope she'll stay there.” The former first lady made the comments in an interview with Larry King, which will air Monday night on “Larry King Live.” Barbara Bush is not the only prominent Republican woman to speak poorly of Palin in recent days. On Monday, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, whom Sarah Palin vociferously opposed during the state's most recent — and still ongoing — Senate election, said that the former governor lacks the “leadership qualities” and “intellectual curiosity” necessary to be president. In the interview with Larry King, Barbara Bush also said that she “loved” her son George W. Bush's new book. When asked about the Tea Party in the same interview, former President George H. W. Bush said that “some of [their] ideas make a lot of sense,” but added that he is “confused by it” and said he does not “know what it really is.” added by: TimALoftis

Gateway to Victory

On Saturday we attended another phenomenal event at a ballpark in O’Fallon, Missouri. Joining us for this event was John Rich and his band who performed “Raisin’ McCain” to the enthusiastic crowd. I can’t fully explain how overwhelming this experience has now become with the enormous crowds and enthusiastic support. I am so grateful and I am so honored to be able to share this experience with you. Thanks to everyone for their kind words! Song of the Day: “Stars and Boulevards” by Augustana

Daughters

The first political convention I ever attended was when my mom was pregnant with me in 1984 and the Republican Party nominated Ronald Reagan for a second term as President. I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter’s question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. It’s a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can’t fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.
