Carmelo Anthony Says He Couldn’t Do Anything Without Education

‘I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place,’ NBA phenom reminds kids at Get Schooled event. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Jeff Schneider Carmelo Anthony Photo: MTV News Carmelo Anthony’s mesmerizing moves on the court wouldn’t be possible without one key factor — and it’s not just putting in extra work at practice. “Without education, I couldn’t really do nothing,” Anthony told MTV News at a Get Schooled event at Denver’s George Washington High School, which was also attended by Ludacris, indie MC Saigon and ‘Melo’s wife La La Vazquez. “Without my grades, I couldn’t really play ball, I couldn’t really hang out. I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place.” The Denver Nuggets forward insisted that anybody who wants to score success should use a strong educational background as their jumping-off point. “Education should be first in everybody’s agenda. I think high school and just education gets you prepared for the real world,” ‘Melo maintained. As challenging as homework may be, the megastar baller said making a mark outside of the classroom is a lot harder. “All the subjects that you think is hard right now in high school, trust me, it gets harder out there in the real world,” he explained. “So this is where it starts, this is the stepping-stone.” Anthony said he enjoyed his face time with the high-schoolers at the event and dreamed big about taking the project to the next level. “I think Get Schooled probably, for me, is one of the best programs that I’ve been involved in — and I’m not just saying that because I’m on here,” Anthony said. “Just for the simple fact that we get a chance to hear from young kids what’s going on in their mind and their life and what can they do to better their education. “I wish that we could just do it on a much bigger scale. Hopefully we can just grow the tour to 20 cities next time,” he continued. “And not just have us come out there and talk, but actually showing the statistics and the videos, just everything that goes along with it.” Stay tuned to MTV News for more information about how you can get the president to speak at your commencement celebration at the end of this school year. Get Schooled is a national program aimed at increasing high school and college graduation rates and promoting the importance of education, developed by Viacom in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Pusha T Promises Next Clipse LP Is ‘Gonna Be Mean’

On ‘RapFix Live,’ G.O.O.D. Music signee says duo are making street music: ‘We’re doing the album that we wanna do.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Pusha T Photo: Sohyung Kang/MTV News Now that the Clipse’s Pusha T is a part of the G.O.O.D. Music family as a solo artist, the pressure to deliver as a group appears to have subsided. The Virginia Beach MC and his brother Malice have long railed against record labels for freedom when it comes to their Clipse projects, blaming execs for stalling on release dates and handcuffing them creatively. But for the next Brothers Thornton LP, Pusha said the duo’s music will be as dark and uncompromising as ever. “I can say that it’s gonna strictly be for the Clipse purist,” Push told Sway during an appearance on “RapFix Live” on Thursday (November 18). We’re throwing around a title. But it’s gonna be mean, for sure. We’re doing the album that we wanna do.” Their last album, Til the Casket Drops, was released last year to much critical acclaim in the same vein as their past efforts. The Neptunes prot

Pharrell Encourages The Clipse To Sign With Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music

‘I think that’s gonna be amazing,’ N.E.R.D. frontman tells Mixtape Daily of possible deal. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Steven Roberts Clipse Photo: MTV News Celebrity Favorites: Pharrell Williams When we broke the “good” news last week that Pusha T and his brother Malice might be going over to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music , the blogs and Twitter started going ham. “A great day for music, but it’s a ‘good’ day,” Pusha said about putting his Fear of God mixtape out September 14 — a date that has been dubbed G.O.O.D. Music Day, because it’s when albums from West, Kid Cudi, Big Sean and Consequence are expected to drop. “I mean, you know, I been to Hawaii. Hawaii is a nice place. Good music is made down there, ya know? So, yeah, I was there. I can’t say too much about that. I think everybody’s gonna be in for a big surprise, a very big surprise.” We already know what the Clipse and Kanye sound like together: “Kinda Like a Big Deal” was a heralded banger, and the Brothers Thornton threw barbed-wire lines all over the beat from “Swagga Like Us” on their Road to Till the Casket Drops mixtape. Well, on Monday, it just so happened that N.E.R.D. performed right on the 24th floor in the MTV building (#PerksOf1515). After the show, we asked Pharrell Williams — who is the Clipse’s most frequent producer and hometown friend — whether his VA brethren linking up with West would work. Skateboard P gave a resounding co-sign. “I think that’s gonna be amazing,” Pharrell said. “[Pusha] had been working with ‘Ye. I told him, ‘You should do that.’ We made a lot of great records together, and we’ll continue to make great records. I want him to grow and get other experiences out in the world. He’s gotta figure that out. He’s gotta go out there and see it. Make no mistake, lyrically, that kid is one of the greats — him and his brother. Lyrically, those guys are really serious. They’re well-respected by all of the good dudes. Jay-Z loves them, T.I., Jeezy loves them. All of your favorite rappers, they appreciate a Pusha line or a Malice line. They do. I’m saying with respect for all those artists — I work with those artists. I know the conversations we had. They like what they do. It’s been a long time coming for Pusha and what it is he’s trying to do. He’s gonna get it. And Malice too.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Pusha T Won’t Confirm Or Deny Signing To Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music

Clipse member’s The Fear of God, mixtape happens to be coming out the same day as the rest of ‘Ye’s roster. By Shaheem Reid Pusha T Photo: MTV News We’ve heard G.O.O.D. Music camp members Consequence, Kid Cudi and Big Sean talk about their family’s grand scheme of making September 14 “G.O.O.D. Music Day.” Kanye West and his three signees are all supposed to drop albums that day. But will there be another name added to the fold? The Clipse’s Pusha T is putting out his first solo mixtape, The Fear of God, that day as well, raising speculation that he’s doing it be as part of the Louis Vuitton Don’s roster? “That’s just a good day,” Pusha told MTV News Thursday night in New York at an EA Sports event to promote the game “Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.” “A great day for music, but it’s a ‘good’ day,” he said, slyly repeating the word. “I mean, you know. I been to Hawaii. Hawaii is a nice place. Good music is made down there, ya know. So, yeah, I was there. I can’t say too much about that. I think everybody’s gonna be in for a big surprise. A very big surprise.” Hawaii, of course, has been the primary location where Kanye has been making albums for the past several months with his roster of artists. When Pusha was asked straight up if he is signing to West, he answered with a grin, “Who’s to say, man? But the Pusha T solo album is definitely coming out.” His LP won’t be out until February at the earliest. Right now, the focus is on The Fear of God. The VA native is recording both projects simultaneously however. “I just feel like, you know, everybody’s waiting on it,” Pusha said about going solo. “I think it’s time to expand the Re-Up Gang brand. The only way to do that is expand the music. Make the music more diverse. They been seeing the Clipse for a little while. We got our own different perspectives. Myself and Malice. It’s good. It’s good for us to do this and show the world just how our minds work.” Asked to explain why the mixtape is called The Fear of God, he replied, “I feel like a lot of MCs are scared of it. A lot of MCs are scared of a solo project from an MC such as myself. I believe that. I was writing and I felt like, ‘Woooo. I’m gonna invoke the fear of God in these people.’ ” Push already put out two freestyles in the last few days, “Dearly Beloved” and “Bidding War.” “If you haven’t heard it, it’s called ‘Bidding War,’ ” he explained of the latter, where he raps over the beat of Jay Electronica’s “The Ghost of Christopher Wallace.” “Just a day. A day in the studio. It’s a lot going on in my mind right now. The music is flowing, the rhymes is flowing, and you’re gonna keep hearing from me. I’m feeling like a rapper right now. … I haven’t felt like that in a long time I my career. I’m feeling like that. That’s where I am. Let’s go play.” Do you think Pusha T fits in with the G.O.O.D. Clipse’s Pusha T Readying Solo Mixtape Fear of God

The Virgina rapper will drop a tape on September 14, as rumors swirl that he’ll also join Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music collective. By Mawuse Ziegbe Pusha T Photo: Neilson Barnard/ Getty Images Clipse’s Pusha T is preparing to make a move as a solo artist with the release of a new mixtape set to drop in the fall. Clipse manager Steve Victor confirmed to MissInfo.tv that Pusha has set a September 14 release date for his solo tape. The Virginia MC even shouts out the title, Fear of God, in his “Bidding War” freestyle, which recently surfaced on the Web. The mixtape due date is an intriguing choice as rumors have been swirling that Push might be joining Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music collective, many of whom — ‘Ye, Kid Cudi, Consequence and Big Sean — are dropping albums on the same day. Pusha T, with his brother and partner-in-rhyme, Malice, dropped their latest album, Til the Casket Drops, on December 8, 2009 , a date also crowded by a spate of new hip-hop releases from artists such as Gucci Mane and Snoop Dogg. While readying the release of Casket, Push opened up to MTV News about his favorite track on the album. ” ‘Freedom’ is a redemption song,” Push told us. “It’s an apology; it gives a rhyme and reason for some of the things and some of the attitudes of the Clipse. It says ‘sorry’ just as much as it says we’re better [than other rappers], and we’re still the best … ever.” Malice has also been keeping busy. The MC recently released the video short “This Is Only a Test,” in which he weaves spiritual rhetoric into his narrative about a man grappling with street life. Clipse are also scheduled to hit the stage at this year’s Rock the Bells Tour , kicking off August 21. Are you surprised Pusha T is going solo on his next effort? Tell us in the comments! By Shaheem Reid Raekwon Photo: Universal This summer, the Wu-Tang Clan return to headline the heralded Rock the Bells Tour . But unlike the Killer Bees’ previous stage ventures for the annual outing, the Clan’s set will have a twist. The group will perform their classic debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) — in its entirety. “We never did that before,” Raekwon the Chef told Mixtape Daily last week. “We never sung the whole album, the 36 Chambers. “That’s gonna be interesting to see these cats do some of the records that really bust hip-hop’s cherry open,” Rae said. “I can’t wait to see this because I never seen it like that before. The concept is great. It gives fans the opportunity to go back and rewrite their history, go back and check it out, see what made dudes who they are. … This [tour] is gonna allow races to come together and have fun for one night. This is gonna be the event of events. This is gonna be the Royal Rumble of hip-hop. I’m sure that everybody is gonna come out and represent this. It’s gonna be right. I can’t wait.” Rae said every time he gets to perform among the legends that Rock the Bells welcomes onto its treks, he feels another year younger. “It’s always good to get out there with my brothers. We going to get money, pay them bills, take care of them kids. Then getting back in front of them fans again and giving them what they want,” the
