I can’t think of a more appropriate way to begin the Republican caucus day in Iowa, than with Chris Matthews’ closing segment of Hardball Monday night. This stinging rebuke should haunt Mitt Romney for years to come. ‘”Let Me Finish” tonight with this”, Matthews begins: This Republican caucus in Iowa has the looks of a travesty, a victory of dollars over democracy, financial equity over equality…. It’s been a long, bloody time coming but the people of Egypt officially have their “free” now. CAIRO — Eager for their first taste of a free vote in decades, Egyptians formed long lines outside polling centers on Saturday to cast their ballots on a package of constitutional amendments sponsored by the ruling military. The nationwide referendum is the first major test of the country’s transition to democracy after a popular uprising overthrew President Hosni Mubarak’s authoritarian rule on Feb. 11. Voters were being asked to cast ballots to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the entire package of nine changes. Preliminary results will be announced Sunday. A “yes” vote would allow parliamentary and presidential elections to be held later this year or early in the next. A “no” vote could force the military to extend the six-month deadline it has set for the handover of power to an elected civilian government. “My vote today will make a difference. It’s as simple as that,” first-time voter Hossam Bishay, 48, said as he waited in line with about 300 others outside a polling center in Cairo’s upscale Zamalek district. The center was guarded by six police officers and one from the army. Reports say that some people think that this vote is a little premature and the country hasn’t formed a suitable governing body. But the fact that they can even express this concern is a sign that democracy is prevailing. Praise be to Allah… Source

In an outrageous power grab, Michigan Gov. Fox News is promoting tonight's interview with Sarah Palin on Hannity . She's declared she will not “waste” her time with the CBS anchor who drew all kinds of praise and even awards for pummeling Palin in 2008 (after going all cuddly with “close-talking, free-wheeling, ice-cream eating” Joe Biden ). Hannity asked: “Would you even do another interview with Katie Couric?” Palin said she would like to be more open with journalistic professionals, but left Couric out of that category: As for doing an interview though, with a reporter who already has such a bias against whatever it is that I would come out and say, why waste my time? No. I want to clean up the state, that is so sorry today, of journalism. And I have a communications degree. I studied journalism – who, what, when, where, and why of reporting. I will speak to reporters who still understand that cornerstone of our democracy, that expectation that the public has, for truth to be reported, and then we get to decide our own opinion based on the facts reported to us. So, a journalist, a reporter who is so biased and will no doubt spin and gin up whatever it is that I have to say to create controversy? I swear to you, I will not waste my time with her. read more
