Jared Leto Warns Fans Of Stage Collapse At Belgium’s Pukkelpop Fest

A storm knocks down several stages at festival, killing three and injuring 71. By James Dinh Jared Leto Photo: Leonard Adam/ WireImage With the tragic stage collapse at Sugarland’s Indiana State Fair show still fresh in the minds of concertgoers, Jared Leto sent precaution to 30 Seconds to Mars’ fans at Belgium’s Pukkelpop festival on Thursday night (August 18) as a storm passed through, knocking down several stages and causing at least three deaths and 71 injuries. “CRAZY STORM AT PUKKELPOP IN BELGIUM – NOT SURE WE WILL BE ABLE TO GO ON STAGE – STAYED TUNED. SAFETY FIRST,” Leto tweeted prior to his band’s set. Things took a turn for the worse a mere half-hour later, when Leto tweeted , “FOUR STAGES DOWN – STILL RAINING + THUNDER IF YOU ARE HERE PLEASE BE SAFE.” According to reports, Pukkelpop was hit with strong winds and rainfall at around 6:15 p.m. local time, which caused several structures and stages to collapse. Nearby trees were also uprooted, causing even more damage to the fairgrounds and hazard to the estimated 60,000 in attendance. Chokri Mahassine, the organizer of the three-day festival, told The Associated Press, “We have for now put the festival on hold until we understand the situation completely.” Shortly after the collapse, the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman took to his website to send sympathy to those affected by the events. “Our deepest thoughts and sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives today at the show in Belgium. We are absolutely devastated that this celebration ended in tragedy,” Leto wrote. “To those that were injured we are sending thoughts and prayers. Obviously under these horrible and dangerous circumstances, and out of respect for those who have passed, Thirty Seconds to Mars will not be playing. We love you all and hope tomorrow brings a better day.” Share your condolences in the comments below. Related Artists 30 Seconds To Mars

Sugarland Plan Indiana State Fair Memorial

Band sends out prayers for ‘peace and healing’ families of five killed and dozens injured in Saturday’s stage collapse. By Jocelyn Vena Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles (file) Photo: Rick Diamond/ Getty Images Following last Saturday’s stage collapse before their scheduled concert at the Indiana State Fair , Sugarland have announced they will hold a memorial to honor the five killed and dozens injured in the accident. The band announced on their website that they are working on a memorial. “We are in the process of planning a private memorial in Indiana to honor those fans who died. We would first like to hold space so that their families can have time to go through their own services and memorials. Until that time we are holding vigil for them,” they wrote. “We join them on their mourning benches. And we stand in the gap asking God to offer them peace and healing. For those suffering from injury we hold you up with prayers for complete healing of your own.” In addition to their plans to honor those lost and injured, Sugarland also announced they will resume their tour later this week. “We are also addressing our own specific healing,” the statement continues. “Our road family experienced its traumas together. While we all scattered to our given families for their comfort, the trauma we experienced together binds us in a unique way that we share only with each other, and those who were there. There is healing in our being together. There is healing in our working together. For this reason we are planning to get back on the road this weekend, beginning with our scheduled show in Albuquerque this Thursday, August 18th. The emotions have us yearning to be close to each other immediately. The logistics have us needing to replace all of our instruments and equipment. (The set is a loss that is insignificant in light of the tragedy.)” A memorial service was held on Monday at the fairgrounds where the accident took place. According to USAToday.com , 500 people attended the service, including Governor Mitch Daniels. The website for the fair, which reopened on Monday, announced that some shows, like the Train/Maroon 5 show, have been moved elsewhere on site, while Janet Jackson’s and Lady Antebellum’s performances have been canceled all together. Indiana Police Waste Millions Trying To Eradicate Ditch Weed

Sgt. Lou Perras and a team of state troopers from the Indiana State Police launched a bizarre annual ritual in May: their patently impossible, insanely expensive, and laughably absurd effort to “eradicate marijuana” in the state. Perras said part of the war on pot includes combating the public's lighthearted attitude about the friendly weed. “People have this attitude — 'It's just marijuana,'” Perras said. “That's a sad misrepresentation of the drug,” the earnest lawman intoned soberly. Perras seems to irrationally believe his team's doomed efforts will somehow counteract the romanticism marijuana enjoys. The growing public acceptance of marijuana use — and its legality for medicinal usage in 14 states and counting — is making Perras's job tougher this growing season, the drug warrior whined. “Marijuana will grow almost everywhere,” Perras whimpered. “All it needs is sunlight and water.” Although Perras is correct on that point, beyond that, he quickly leaves the realm of rationality. Heading up Indiana's Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression program — which, year after year, has received fat funding from the federal government, paid for with assets seized (stolen) from “drug dealers” — has gone from a seasonal to a year-round job. Thankfully, this year Perras's team is doing their asinine job with less money. His budget was cut by $250,000, about a third less than a year ago, due to a shift in federal funding priorities (thank you, Obama Administration). Local “drug task forces” (translation: armed goons with Rambo complexes who steal pot and seize property) are also — horrors! — facing cutbacks. “It makes us be more resourceful and even better stewards of taxpayers' dollars, like not using the helicopter as much, and relying more on tips from citizens and other investigative techniques,” said Sgt. Tony Slocum. Slocum is with the Indiana State Police post in Peru, Indiana, a district in which state troopers working with the program annually pull up about 2,000 pot plants. Less money means snitches, I mean tipsters, are more important than ever to the pot “eradication” program. State police have issued news releases in recent weeks encouraging “the media” to publicize the Indiana State Police Marijuana Tip Line. As a civic-minded editor, I am more than happy to do so, but I wonder if the Indiana State Police realize that when I publicize the number for their Marijuana Tip Line, 888-873-1694, they will likely be deluged with spurious “tips” on marijuana patches that never existed. You think? Oh well. added by: Omnomynous
