Uum…Okay: Polar Vortex Video Challenges Have People Experimenting In Freezing Weather

Here is the original post:

Source: Wojtek Zagorski / Getty The polar vortex has been quite offensive these past couple of days. As of Thursday, it’s already taken over a number of states in the U.S. with the Midwest being hit the hardest. According to ABC 6 , some states in this area are experiencing temperatures in the negative 30s, and if you add wind chills to the mix, states like Illinois have experienced weather that feels like negative 57 degrees . According to The New York Times ,  eight weather-related deaths have already been recorded in the Midwest while the east coast isn’t that much safer with cities like New York experiencing single digit temperatures. But despite all this, folks will still find a way to capture the madness on camera. You can blame it on snowed-in boredom or you can blame it on plain curiosity. But whatever the reasoning, people are playing in the snow in the most bizarre and hilarious ways. First, a few people are putting their dogs on the line to test the weather. Some pet owners have been letting their canines out into the cold just to find out if they’d be thrilled for a walk. For many, the answer was a hard no. Just let Twitter user @IamNPaterson and her dog tell it… My dog when the #polarvortex arrives in #newjersey “No. Absolutely not.” @njdotcom pic.twitter.com/uUFKWu2BzV — Natalie Paterson (@IamNPaterson) January 30, 2019 Then, there were people who put their scientist hat on to discover the shocking effects of freezing temperatures. One Twitter user posted a video of herself soaking a T-shirt then sticking it outside in the cold. The results were a clothing item that could stand on its own after just a little over an hour outside. It’s no joke out here. One of the most viral videos, however, is a challenge that carried over from previous years. People have been boiling water and throwing it into the freezing air, creating a snow-making affect. Peep the slow motion spectacle below.   According to Wired , because the water is so hot, it has enough energy to transition from liquid to gas quickly. When the hot water is projected into the cold air, a few things happen. First, the hot water is making water vapor thanks to evaporation. Second, the water is breaking into smaller blobs of water as it moves through the air. Both the evaporation and smaller blobs cause the water to cool off quickly. In addition to this, the cold air can’t hold a lot of water vapor (which is why the air is much drier in the winter), so the water vapor doesn’t stay in the air, but it condenses out. Viola. Instant snow. People across social media have been trying their luck at the phenomenon whether it be -10 degrees temperatures or -20 degrees  outside. Whatever the case might be, make sure to stay warm and stay safe. The polar vortex will still disrespect you and your entire video.

If you haven’t been outside in the last couple days…IT’S COLD! In the midwest American’s are dealing with temperatures as low as minus 20 with wind chills on almost minus 50. In our area we’re dealing with our fair share of frigid weather, it’s gotten pretty cold. If you don’t have to go outside for long periods of times, then don’t. Meteorologists are calling for the below freezing temperatures and multiple school districts have called for two hour delays and cancelations for students tomorrow. This polar vortex is taking the midwest and east coast out! If you do have to be outside tomorrow here are some tips to stay warm: Source: Spencer Platt / Getty Minimize outside activities,  particularly the elderly and very young. Dress in layers.  Several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing will keep you warmer than a single layer of heavy clothing. Wear the right gear.  Our bodies prioritize keeping our organs warm, which means hands and feet are typically the first to feel the cold. Wear either wool-lined winter gloves or heavy mittens, and sturdy, waterproof boots, protecting your extremities. Do not leave  pets  outside during cold weather extremes.  They need adequate shelter.  In sub-zero temperatures, their paws, noses and ears can succumb to frostbite—bring them inside. now the warning signs of  hypothermia :  uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, incoherence, slurred speech, drowsiness and apparent exhaustion. Be safe with heat sources.  When using alternate heating sources, such as your fireplace, wood stove or space heater, take the necessary safety precautions to ensure they are ventilating properly. Save the food.  If you  lose power  for an extended period of time, don’t let food go to waste! To keep  pipes  from freezing,  wrap them in insulation or layers of newspapers, covering the newspapers with plastic to keep out moisture. Allow a trickle of water to run from a faucet if your pipes have frozen in the past.

Ex-Nike Exec Gets 13 Months In Prison For Selling Himself Nike Merch For The Low Low

Source: Spencer Platt / Getty Nike spotted the jig when it came to a former executive who was using his job with the company to supply two sportswear retail stores he owned with ridiculously discounted merchandise. Nike initially hired 51-year-old, David Reicher of St. Louis, Missouri as a salesman and wholesale account executive to sell its products and accessories to retail chains located throughout the Midwest according to court documents. His job allowed him to give discounts to his customers on top the of the wholesale prices they purchased the merchandise at for their stores. As revealed in the court documents the price-cuts rarely were over twenty-percent, and that included his most prominent customers. Those rules didn’t apply to the two St.Louis companies he bought with his business partner, Fan-a-Mania and JJL Sport. Reichart managed to finesse the game by not disclosing to the sportswear giant that he owned the retail stores. He sold himself merchandise that was discounted nearly three times the rate of the discount he extended to the other customer accounts he managed. When it was all said and done, Reichart embezzled close to $770,000 worth of licensed Nike-brand products . Reichart is now probably wishing he just didn’t do it and has pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud. He was sentenced in a Portland, Oregon court to 13-months in jail on Tuesday. We are sure that the discount wasn’t worth it after all. — Photo:  Spencer Platt / Getty

Kate Upton Tits Out for Some Magazine of the Day

I call this photo series – Saggy sag Dairy Cow from the Midwest…about to get milked…. But the truth is that Kate Upton is a powerful woman, showcasing her femininity…using her natural huge, and disgusting, sloppy breasts as a marketing tool, that would make her grandfather, the founder of WHIRLPOOL…yes…that WHIRLPOOL proud he revolutionized the washing machine to give his offspring….the opportunity to be famous for tits. I don’t hate Kate Upton or her tits, I just don’t really know what the point of her is…besides the tits… I don’t think I’m the one objectifying anyone here…. I think it’s pretty clear who is….

Beyonce: Moving Out on Jay Z?!

Hard as it may be to believe, the Carters are struggling at the moment. Sure, there’s a new round of rumors that Beyonce and Jay Z are getting divorced , but those pop up every few months. Right now, the more immediate concern for the First Couple of Hip Hop has to do with housing. They had been renting a lavish home in Holmby Hills, California, but now the place has found a buyer, and Bey and Jay declined to beat the $35 million offer. So they have two months to move, and many are now wondering if they’ll be relocating together. Radar Online is reporting that Beyonce has already moved out with 3-year-old Blue Ivy in tow, leaving Jay to fend for himself. It’s possible that Jay is just getting the family’s affairs in order before he joins Bey and Blue in their new SoCal home. Or perhaps Mrs. Carter is traveling and decided to bring the toddler with her. Of course, it’s also possible that all those rumors that the Carters are headed for a wildly expensive divorce are actually true. To be clear, that’s probably not the case, but we’d hate to let Jay-Bey divorce rumors slip by us the one time there’s actually any truth to them. Expect an uncaptioned photo of the couple holding hands in the South of France to pop up on social media any day now.

Calvin Harris: Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend Accused of Receiving "Happy Ending" at Thai Massage Parlor

Taylor Swift may have sang about a “Love Story,” but we don’t think this is the sort of happy ending she had in mind. Radar Online has photos of Calvin Harris leaving a Thai massage parlor in LA with a rather satisfied look on his face. Taylor, of course, is currently thousands of miles away, touring the Midwest on her 1989 tour. It’s worth noting that the rub-and-tug Harris sleepily moseyed out of today is the first result that comes up in a Google search for “best Thai massage happy ending.” However, in Calvin’s defense, many of the business’ Yelp reviews come from pissed-off men who did not, uh…find the release that they were looking for. If it turns out Calvin was receiving a full frontal massage, it’ll be the latest in a long line of strikes against a dude who once seemed to be Taylor’s perfect match. Last month, Calvin went off on Zayn Malik in what he probably thought was a chivalrous defense of Taylor’s virtue, but came off more as bizarre temper tantrum. Shortly thereafter, Calvin attacked Avril Lavigne on social media, again because of some perceived slight against Swift. His publicist denies the feud, it’s interesting that Swift brought Lavigne on stage just a few days later to show the world that there’s no bad blood.  Calvin Harris: Appropriately tall and blonde Prince Charming, or pervy unenthusiastic hand-job aficionado? You be the judge. View Slideshow: Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris: So in Love!

End Of Days: Massive Tornado Strikes Oklahoma As 170,000 Residents Brace For More Fatalities And Severe Damage

Severe Tornado Warning Issued In Oklahoma via CNN Shawnee, Oklahoma (CNN) — A tornado was on the ground near Oklahoma City on Monday afternoon, moving toward populated areas. The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado emergency for the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, meaning that significant and widespread damage and fatalities are likely. Video from CNN affiliates showed a funnel cloud stretching from the sky to the ground, kicking up debris. More than 171,000 people could be in the path of the storm. The severe weather comes after tornadoes and powerful storms ripped through Oklahoma and the Midwest earlier Monday and on Sunday. Forecasters had warned that the destructive weather, which killed at least two people, wasn’t over. “Today could be potentially as dangerous as yesterday,” CNN meteorologist Indra Petersons said Monday morning, pointing to a wide swath of the country spanning from Texas to Michigan. “We’re talking about 500,000 square miles under the gun for severe weather.” Story still developing…

Punxsutawney Phil: Sued By Ohio County Over Wrong Early Spring Prediction!

Beaten down by months of snow, wind and cold, an Ohio county has issued an “indictment” against Punxsutawney Phil over his Groundhog Day prediction . Phil did not see his shadow February 2, signaling spring’s imminent arrival. Six days later, Winter Storm Nemo dumped 30 inches of snow on New England. Six weeks later, temperatures across the Northern U.S. remain frigid. Birds chirping? Flowers blooming? No sign of those anywhere. As a result, (hopefully) tongue-in-cheek Butler County, Oh., prosecutors are demanding justice, claiming Phil deliberately misled the American people. They say such a felony should be punished by death. Butler County’s chief prosecutor filed an official brief about this, lambasting the rodent for actions “against the peace and dignity of the state of Ohio.” “Punxsutawney Phil did purposely, and with prior calculation and design, cause the people to believe that spring would come early,” wrote Mike Gmoser. He vowed to bring the Pennsylvania icon to justice in the neighboring Buckeye State, but Phil’s handlers are having none of it, coming to his defense. Bill Deeley, president of the club that organizes Groundhog Day, said Phil has a lawyer and would fight attempted extradition by the Ohio authorities. “We’ll have to plead our case one way or the other, but I think we can beat the rap,” Deeley said, taking Butler County’s indictment more or less in stride. Criminally negligent or not, Phil really dropped the ball in 2013. This winter was pretty harsh, at least by recent standards, and grew worse if anything following Phil’s prognostication that spring would come early. Case in point: There’s another storm due on Sunday/Monday that could bring several additional inches of snow across the Midwest and Northeast. The first day of Spring was Thursday, March 21.
