It would be a massive understatement to say that the Duggars are an unusual sort of family. The Duggars have always played by their own rules, which is one of the things that endears them to their viewers — who are typically, and somewhat ironically, big fans of both rules and end fiercely protected independence. It may seem that these two passions cannot easily co-exist, but it all has to do with who's making the rules. Like Jim Bob himself, Duggar fans tend to be evangelicals with a fierce patriarchal streak. They believe in divine authority and the authority of the male head of household, and while they tend to be big fans of both the military and the police, they're usually distrustful of the government. A royally awesome and historic event took place in Great Britain on Wednesday morning. As documented below, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ALL took the stage as a foursome for the first time at the inaugural Royal Foundation Forum. The charity organization was initially set up by the two princes and Middleton, but after Markle officially joins the family on her wedding day, she will be a patron as well. The only other time we’ve seen all four of these very famous people in the same place together was when they made their way to church on Christmas day. The royals (and the one gorgeous royal-to-be) used this event to lay out various hopes and plans for their current and future work under the charitable umbrella of the Royal Foundation. Audience members on hand got to hear them talk about why the foundation was set up, the projects they are working on right now and other ones in the pipeline. “Ten years ago Harry and I were still serving full-time in the military, but we were starting to look to the next stages of our lives,” William explained in stage, elaborating as follows: “As we discussed together the best way to set out on our official work, we looked to the values our family had instilled in us.” He said he was “particularly happy” that Markle had joined the efforts and added: “Both our parents had provided for us an example of diligence, compassion and duty in all they did. “Our grandparents, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, had made support for charity central to their decades of service to the nation and the Commonwealth.” After her husband said he wanted to “celebrate this spirit of togetherness” with others around the world, Middleton took the stage to talk about Heads Together. This is a campaign meant to break the stigma around mental health and promote conversation around the issue, something Middleton has admirably been on the forefront of for years. “The campaign set out to change the national conversation on mental health,” she said. “We are all so proud of the work we did with our partners; to challenge the stigma which has prevented so many people from speaking openly about their mental wellbeing… “I am sure you will agree that the mental health of children and adults is one area where a longterm view will make a huge difference to generations in the future.” Finally, Markle addressed her old profession (entertainment) and the ongoing #MeToo movement and #TimesUp movement that are at least empowering women to speak out. She wanted to make one point very clear as it pertained to this topic. “I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s’ empowerment you will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices,” she said. “I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use it and people need to be urged to listen.” This said, the future Mrs. Prince Harry is thrilled that things are finally changing in Hollywood, and in other work places as well, she hopes. “I think right now in the climate we’re seeing with so many campaigns, with #MeToo and Time’s Up, there’s no better time than to really continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people really helping to support them – men included in that.” Speaking of men also playing a role in this battle, she said simply: “It makes such a tremendous difference.” It really does. Meghan Markle is a disrespectful, promiscuous, unethical nobody who is not worthy of a place in The Royal Family. So states a scathing petition making its way around the Internet, at least. Indeed, while most of the free world appears very excited for Markle to marry Prince Harry in May, a London resident Louisa Pawsey does not share this enthusiasm. Not even the tiniest, little bit. The British troll has started an online petition at Change.org that doesn’t say Markle can’t become Harry’s wife – because obviously she can’t do anything to stop true love. But it does plea for the Royal Family NOT to give the actress a title. Based on what characteristics (or lackthereof) she believes Markle possesses? “We the undersigned believe that Meghan Markle is unsuitable to be a member of the Royal Family and to have an official position in representing this country,” reads the ridiculous document. It adds: “She has shown her disrespect for the Monarch and Royal Family by pulling faces and sticking her tongue out to the visitors during her first public appearance with the Queen.” It’s unclear from where Pawsey gets this impression, or this alleged fact. As you can see below, Markle has come across as nothing but classy during her public appearances as Harry’s fiancee. Continues the petition: “Her attitude and actions in Nottingham shows her lack of respect towards Harry. “The fact that members of the Armed forces are resigning due to the fact they had naked pictures of her in their barracks shows how little respect she will command.” It’s true that Markle has posed for a few sexy photos during her time as a model and actress. It certainly isn’t true that any members of the military have resigned over these snapshots. In conclusion, the petition makes the following points and pleas: No member of the Royal Family should have naked images of them freely available on the internet as she does. Her constant sex simulation makes her a laughing stock and an embarrassment to this country. Her previous divorces and cheating on partners does not lend us to believe she will be faithful to Harry. Please prevent her from having an official role or title after her marriage to Harry. Again, this nonsense is based on something from Markle’s career. Her pretended to give another character a blow job many years ago during an episode of 90210 on The CW. That’s the only “sex simulation” we know of and it took place while she was acting on a television show. As of this writing, Louisa’s petition to deny Markle a royal title has gained only 452 signatures. It’s obviously complete hogwash. No one is taking it seriously and we mostly just feel bad for Pawsey that she’s taking the concept of a Royal this seriously. It’s true that Markle has been divorced and it’s true she comes from mixed heritage and it’s true she has posed for a few seductive pictures (see above). But shouldn’t the Royal Family be applauded for adapting its out-of-date policies, guidelines and restrictions in order to evolve and welcome her with open arms? We think so. Last year, there were 191 waivers granted and this year that number significantly increased to over 500. The implementation of this plan seems to be working in the military’s favor. According to the news outlet, the Army enlisted 6,000 more recruits than they did in 2016. “Provided they understand that they cannot do that when they serve in the military, I will waive that all day long,” Maj. Gen. Jeff Snow , head of the Army’s recruiting command, said in a statement according to the source. He also added that as states continue to make marijuana use legal, he expects the number of waivers to rise. Those who head up recruitment in the Army have been trying to explore different ways to recruit individuals who fall under “category four” which means they scored low on their aptitude test. Those who are classified in that category are barred from enlisting if they have any type of history with marijuana and they can’t request any waivers for other reasons. Snow says that the Army plans on maintaining its standards but will continue to find pathways for more people to enlist to increase the number of members. “The big thing we’re looking for is a pattern of misconduct where they’re going to have a problem with authority,” Snow told USA Today . “Smoking marijuana in an isolated incident as a teenager is not a pattern of misconduct.” Some critics call the increase in marijuana waivers worrisome since years ago the military ran into issues when recruits with criminal records were hurriedly enrolled in the military to meet a high demand for members during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Marijuana is currently legal in Colorado, Maryland, Washington, Oregon, California, Massachusetts, and Maine. When it comes to the debate on sexual harassment and misconduct in Hollywood, Alyssa Milano has just made it very clear: She’s the boss. The actress – who has been as responsible as anyone for promoting the #MeToo movement and who has been a vocal supporter of every woman who has recently spoken out – took to Twitter on Friday night and straight up owned Matt Damon. The typically beloved star has been criticized mightily over the past 24 hours. He spoke to Peter Travers of ABC News this week and made far too many attempts to parse the differences between various acts that have gotten men in trouble of late. From Al Franken resigning from the Senate for grabbing the butts of women… to Louis CK admitting he masturbated in front of women… to Matt Lauer being fired for alleged rape and other heinous behavior, countless stars have gotten in major trouble for treating women with disrespect. Asked about this watershed moment in the country, Damon initially told Travers: “I think it’s great. I think it’s wonderful that women are feeling empowered to tell their stories – and it’s totally necessary.” But then he kept going, sticking his foot deeper and deeper into his mouth. “I do believe there’s a spectrum of behavior,” he said, stating the obvious and missing the point of the #MeToo movement. “There’s a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right? “Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated.” Minnie Driver, who co-starred with Damon in Good Will Hunting, immediately shook her head over Damon’s comments. “There are so many men I love who do NOT frame the differentiation between sexual misconduct assault and rape as an excuse or worse- our problem. Such bollocks,” Driver Tweeted. But Milano went even further. Focusing especially on Damon’s assertion that men are being punished these days because we live in a “culture of outrage,” the actress took the actor to school. She also explained why rape and the occasional sexist comment may be different, but they contribute to the same thing. “Dear Matt Damon, It’s the micro that makes the macro,” Milano wrote to open her response. Continued Milano: “We are in a ‘culture of outrage’ because the magnitude of rage is, in fact, overtly outrageous. And it is righteous. “I have been a victim of each component of the sexual assault spectrum of which you speak. They all hurt. “And they are all connected to a patriarchy intertwined with normalized, accepted–even welcomed– misogyny.” We really can’t say any of this better than Milano, so we’re just gonna let her keep going… We are not outraged because someone grabbed our asses in a picture. We are outraged because we were made to feel this was normal. We are outraged because we have been gaslighted. We are outraged because we were silenced for so long. There are different stages of cancer. Some more treatable than others. But it’s still cancer. Sexual harassment, misconduct, assault and violence is a systemic disease.
