‘Caged’ Star Wes Calls Cage Fighting ‘An Escape’

‘You’re going to see a part of me that I don’t ever tell anybody,’ Wes says of new docu-series, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT. By Tami Katzoff The cast of “Caged” Photo: MTV “Everybody needs that one thing that they can go do just to take their mind off everyday life.” For Wes, who lives in the small town of Minden, Louisiana, that one thing is cage fighting. Wes is one of three young men featured in the new MTV docu-series “Caged.” They’re all amateur mixed martial arts fighters struggling to make something of themselves in less-than-ideal conditions. Daniel, nicknamed “Golden Boy,” grew up in a wealthy family but lost his way after the death of his girlfriend in a car accident. Matt, who goes by the name “Danger” in the cage, is a talented fighter who just wants to make his parents proud. And Wes struggles to balance his MMA ambitions with his responsibilities to ex-girlfriend Red and their newborn son. “It’s an escape from every day,” Wes told MTV News via Skype. “You wake up and go to work, and then you’ve got to worry about bills and you’ve got to worry about this and you’ve got to worry about that. Well, when you’re in the cage, all that’s gone. You don’t have to worry about anything, because you’ve got to worry about this guy that’s about to try to kick your ass.” For the viewers of “Caged,” Wes promises lots of excitement. “You’re going to see fights — not only in the cage, but out of the cage — you’re going to see people talking sh–, you’re going to see jokes.” And, of course, there will be drama. “I cried on a lot of the episodes that I watched, and I don’t ever cry,” he said. “You’re going to see a part of me that I don’t ever tell anybody.” Wes had a difficult childhood and took to boxing as an outlet when he was 13 years old. “Then I started training in mixed martial arts, and I loved it,” he said. His hope for the series is very personal: “If people can look at my story and relate and say, ‘Man, if he did it, then I can do it,’ I think that would be awesome to inspire people.” “Caged” premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Lindsay Lohan In Talks To Play Elizabeth Taylor In TV Movie

‘Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story’ will follow Taylor’s epic romance with fellow superstar Richard Burton. By Kara Warner Lindsay Lohan and Elizabeth Taylor Photo: Getty Images Nine days into the new year, and we already have our first surprising Lindsay Lohan story. The recent Playboy cover girl ‘s next role might be that of Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor in a made-for-TV-movie for Lifetime. According to Deadline , Lohan is in very early talks to play the lead role in Lifetime’s original movie “Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story.” The TV movie, which was announced at the network’s upfront presentation to advertisers in May 2011, will be a biopic and will reportedly revolve around the epic romance between movie icons Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, whose tempestuous relationship was the most infamous celebrity love affair of its day. In a nutshell, Taylor and Burton were the original “Brangelina.” Lohan’s potential involvement would definitely elevate interest in the project, no matter the production or air date. The problem-plagued 25-year-old could use something positive in her professional career, since the last time we heard from Lohan was via her Playboy interview and court hearings that led to 30 days in jail for violating probation, not attending court-mandated therapy sessions and getting tossed from a community-service gig. Lohan seems to have a thing for misunderstood, old-school Hollywood icons, given the Marilyn Monroe theme in her Playboy spread and her onetime involvement in a Linda Lovelace biopic. Furthermore, Lohan and Taylor have a few interesting things in common, according to a 2010 article from Slate . “Both had domineering stage mothers, little semblance of a real childhood, fame from a young age, substance abuse issues, public emotional outpourings, and copious amounts of tabloid drama,” wrote Slate senior editor Jessica Grose. “The key difference, though, is that Elizabeth Taylor had a true record of achievement before she became the most notorious movie star in America. She had made almost 30 movies by the time she and Burton were making headlines.” There has been no official comment from Lohan or Lifetime yet. Related Photos Elizabeth Taylor: A Life In Photos

Let James Franco Explain The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn To You

“For a film that claims to be sexually responsible, the Twilight movies are awfully dependent on teenage sex to attract viewers,” James Franco, actor/director/writer/student and now film critic, reveals in his write-up of Breaking Dawn – Part 1 in the Paris Review . “The actors prance about like pieces of meat, their disturbingly developed bodies on full display; Taylor Lautner’s rippling teenage chest is just a little better than the child beauty-pageant stars at the end of Little Miss Sunshine .” For Franco’s complete thoughts on Team Jacob vs. Team Edward and Bella’s nightmare pregnancy, click here . 5 Pieces of Elizabeth Taylor Movie Memorabilia I’d Actually Pay For

Long live the memory of our most-perfectly-nosed savior Elizabeth Taylor, whose Oscar cred and Crayola eyes shall live on in fabulous montages for eternity. Now, part of the matrimonial legend’s legacy can be ours: Her glorious Cleopatra wig — made from real human hair — is hitting the auction block . Oooh! I wonder if there are traces of Richard Burton’s saliva on it. Actually, I wonder if we can score a deal on other Liz Taylor movie memorabilia. Cleopatra is a decadent, but pretty uninteresting note in her career. No prestige, just bombast. Here’s the Liz stuff I’d rather bid on this holiday season.

J.J. Abrams and Author Doug Dorst to Collaborate on Novel

J.J. Abrams can be cagey about his new projects (unless he’s discussing his longtime dream of writing a theatrical tribute to Edith Head ), but this new one is intriguing: The Super 8 writer/director will work with author Doug Dorst on a novel. Dorst wrote the supernatural crime novel Alive in Necropolis , and he happens to be a three-time Jeopardy! champion. I guess Alex Trebek’s blessing can help introduce you to some amazing people . Elizabeth Taylor Dies at age 79

Elizabeth Taylor, the epitome of old-school Hollywood glamour, died in Los Angeles yesterday of congestive heart failure. Liz was known for her torrid personal life as well as her magnetic screen presence and patrician beauty, marrying no less than 8 times (to 7 men- Richard Burton received the honor of being Mr. Elizabeth Taylor twice). Liz started acting at the tender age of 9, and had her first big breakthroughs as Lassie’ s sidekick and as a young equestrian in National Velvet (1944) . In the 1950s she starred in award-winning epics like Giant (1956), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) , and Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) and won an Oscar for her performance in Butterfield 8 (1960) . In a case of diva life imitating diva art, her adulterous sexcapades with costar Burton scandalized Hollywood and delayed the release of Cleopatra (1963) . In the late 60’s and 70’s La Liz continued to bring the diva full force, pushing the envelope with outrageous moments like seducing her husband’s mistress in X,Y, and Zee (1972) , bath time with Mia Farrow in Secret Ceremony (1968) and a roadside BJ in Driver’s Seat (1975) . Her last onscreen role was in the live action adaptation of The Flintstones (1994) , where she was still a stunner at 62. Liz committed herself to raising money for AIDS research in her later years, despite her deterioriating health. This grande dame of the dramatic arts made an indelible impact on Hollywood, and her white diamonds will sparkle on forever.

Elizabeth Taylor Passes Away at 79

Elizabeth Taylor has died at the age of 79. Her cause of death is not immediately known, but Taylor had been treated at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for congestive heart failure last month. Although she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. Sadly, it was not to be as she passed away. The English-born, American-raised Elizabeth became a star at a very young age and has long been considered one of the greats of Hollywood’s golden age. A two-time Academy Award-winning actress, Elizabeth Taylor later in life became notorious for her seven marriages and sometimes eccentric behavior. She starred in the 1944 smash hit National Velvet at age 12, then won acclaim A Place In The Sun, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and other works in the ’50s. Taylor won Oscars in the 1960s for roles in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Butterfield 8 , and was often the subject of celebrity gossip fascination. Her tempestuous marriages to Richard Burton, changing appearance, declining health and friendship with Michael Jackson all sparked speculation. May the Dame rest in peace. Here’s a nice tribute of vintage photos … R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor: A Tribute
