Fifi Geldof Mourns Peaches: My Beautiful Baby Sister, I Love You …

The late Peaches Geldof’s relatives are struggling to come to grips with their grief in the wake of the UK journalist, socialite and media personality’s death. Peaches’ sister Fifi Geldof memorialized her sibling on Instagram today, writing: “My beautiful baby sister… Gone but never forgotten. I love you, Peaches x.” Peaches Geldof died Monday. Her death is under investigation by police. Geldof was pronounced dead by paramedics who were called to her London home, though officials told the AP that they do not consider her death suspicious. Geldof’s father, singer-songwriter Bob Geldof , said he is “beyond pain.” “She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and most bonkers of all of us,” he said. “What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again?” “How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever.” Peaches Geldof Dies Her husband Thomas Cohen said in his own statement Monday: “My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra. I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday.” The former model is also being tragically compared to her late mother, the former TV presenter and writer Paula Yates, who died at age 41 in 2000. Gwyneth Paltrow "Working Mom" Comments Spark Outrage, Amuse Crap Out of the Internet

For someone who hasn’t done anything truly objectionable, Gwyneth Paltrow seems like she’s on a quest to become the most loathed star on the web. Seriously. Justin Bieber is a punk who gets arrested and sued every week, and Chris Brown beat Rihanna into a coma, yet they have more fans than she. Paltrow, who announced her conscious uncoupling from Chris Martin last week, was swiftly mocked for her seemingly new-agey, elitist take on divorce. Now, she’s raising more eyebrows and inspiring even more ridicule thanks to an interview with E! in which she laments her struggles as a working mom. “It’s much harder for me. I feel like I set it up in a way that makes it difficult because … for me, like if I miss a school run, they are like, ‘Where were you?’” she says. “I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening.” “When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult.” “I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set,” Gwyneth went on, without irony. Yeah. Suffice it to say, people already disinclined to like Paltrow are up in arms over complaints about her having to earn $20 million to shoot one movie a year. The backlash was pretty universal in regards to Gwyneth being rude, close-minded, aloof, out of touch with reality … however you want to phrase it. Gwyneth faces real parenting challenges and is allowed to voice those, but … is she honestly  implying that “traditional” working moms have it easier? Some of the classic responses from the web : 7 Gwyneth Paltrow Quotes That Forecasted Her Divorce

David Brenner Dies; Comedian, Tonight Show Staple Was 78

Comedian David Brenner, a comedian and regular on The Tonight Show, has died after a battle with cancer, a family spokesman said. He was 78. Brenner was a staple on Johnny Carson’s late-night TV show, appearing 158 times (more than any other guest) according to a bio on his official site. He also helped write, produce and direct 115 TV documentaries, earning him nearly 30 awards, and was the author of five books over the years. Even in death, Brenner kept the jokes coming – a tough feat. His final request, according to spokesman Jeff Abraham, was to have $100 in small bills tucked in his sock, “just in case tipping is recommended where I’m going.” His grave site will also read: “If this is supposed to be a joke … then I don’t get it!” That’s pretty great. Comedian Joan Rivers, a longtime friend, Tweeted: “RIP David Brenner. I adored him, and laughed more with him than anybody. Sad, sad, sad. Knowing David, he’s now making the devil laugh.” Brenner is survived by his wife, three sons and a grandson. Celebrities We Lost in 2014 Open Slideshow 1. Philip Seymour Hoffman R.I.P. Sheila MacRae Dies; Honeymooners Actress Was 92

Sheila MacRae, an actress and singer best known for playing Alice Kramden in the ’60s version of The Honeymooners , died on Thursday. She was 92. She died at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, N.J., her daughter Heather MacRae said of the star, who portrayed Alice from 1966-1970. Alice, the long-suffering, tough-talking wife of Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason), became a fixture in the “Honeymooners” sketches on The Jackie Gleason Show . For 26 years, MacRae was married to Gordon MacRae, a singer-actor best known for starring in the movie versions of musicals Oklahoma! and Carousel . The MacRaes performed as a duo for nearly a decade in nightclubs, on TV and in concerts across the U.S., and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show . MacRae acted in a few movies and appeared on I Love Lucy and other shows, taking a break to have the couple’s first child before returning to perform. She wrote in her 1992 memoir, “Hollywood Mother of the Year,” that his drinking and gambling was an issue but she wanted to stay close to keep an eye on him. Her memoir was named for an award she received the year her marriage began falling apart, and in it, she made some surprising statements about their life. During her husband’s woes, MacRae rebuffed overtures from suitors including Henry Fonda, Peter Sellers and Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Sheila McCrae turned down a marriage proposal from Frank Sinatra, she said. As troubled as her marriage was, Ms. MacRae was reluctant to divorce. “I would have had to take Gordy to court for divorce and spill all the secrets about his drinking and gambling,” she revealed much later in a 1992 interview. The couple eventually separated in 1965 and divorced in 1967. She wed Ronald Wayne the same year; they divorced in 1970. Sheila MacRae is survived by two children, Heather and William, also known as Gar; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; Mr. MacRae died in 1986. Sid Ceasar Dies; TV Great Was 91

In sad news from the world of television today, Sid Caesar, one of the groundbreaking sketch-comedy artists in the history of the medium, has died at age 91. His friend Larry King revealed Caesar’s passing on Twitter a little while ago. King writes, “Sorry to learn about the passing of Sid Caesar – a dear friend, a comic genius & an American classic – there will never be another one like him.” A New York-born nightclub performer, he helped to usher in the TV revolution with a 90-minute Saturday night variety program, Your Show of Shows . That was 1950 if you can believe that. The live TV broadcast became a hit that lasted four years and later morphed into Caesar’s Hour , from 1954-1957. His writing staff included Woody Allen, Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, and Larry Gelbart, but the real star of the show was Sid himself, and he worked at it. Caesar was prolific but had no interest in small talk. He once said the hardest part of the show was being himself and wishing the audience good evening. Bob Costas Eye Infection Prompts Sochi Replacement: Take It Away, Matt Lauer!

Matt Lauer to the rescue? There are words NBC executives never thought they’d say to themselves. But with host Bob Costas ailing from an eye infection that has become the talk of the Twitterverse, the network has confirmed that Lauer will take his spot for tonight’s coverage of the Sochi Olympics.  “Reluctantly, I was trying to throw a complete game here, but I think we’re going to have to go to the bullpen, and I don’t know if you’re aware of this or not, but you’re Mariano Rivera, at least tonight,” Costas told Lauer by phone this morning on Today . “Let’s hope it’s only tonight. I’m walking around, I might as well be playing ‘Marco Polo.’ I have no idea where I am.” Costas had been trying to ignore his eye issues since Day One of the Games, but it was apparent last night that the infection had spread. We’ll see how long his hiatus lasts and we’ll gauge how well Lauer does this evening. But as long as he doesn’t dress like Pam Anderson again, everything should run smoothly.

Shirley Temple Remembered: On the Good Ship Lollipop…

Movie legend  Shirley Temple died last night at the age 85. The former child actress retired more than six decades prior to her passing, but she’s still remembered for her red hair, her dimples, her signature drink – and for one song in particular. Temple first sang “On the Good Ship Lollipop” in 1934’s Bright Eyes, belting out the track in a scene she reportedly choreographed herself.  The number has been referenced and duplicated many times since (from The Brady Bunch to The Simpsons) and we can think of no better way to salute the late star than to run her original here: Shirley Temple – “On The Good Ship Lollipop” Temple, of course, is merely the latest known name to pass away in 2014.
