White CEO Says He Hires Mostly Black Women Because They’re “Less Selfish.” Is This A Good Thing?

Read this article:

There’s a haunting quote from Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing that’s stuck with me since I read the book a couple of years ago. It shared the experience of Esi, a young Ghanaian woman, unknowingly being sold into America’s race-based, life-long, unimaginably cruel system of slavery. “They took them out into the light. The scent of ocean water hit her nose. The taste of salt clung to her throat. The soldiers marched them down to an open door that led to sand and water, and they all began to walk out onto it. Before Esi left, the one called Governor looked at her and smiled. It was a kind smile, pitying, but true. But for the rest of her life Esi would see a smile on a white face and remember the one the soldier gave her before taking her to his quarters, how white men smiling just meant more evil was coming with the next wave.” It speaks to the righteous and rightful distrust we have of White people and White men in particular. Their track record hasn’t been great. And throughout the course of our history on this land and around the world, even well-intentioned actions from White folk have ultimately resulted in unspeakable pain and heartache for Black women. For that reason, the conscious among us approach the actions of White people with some level of caution. I was reminded of this phenomena when my friend sent me a post that’s currently being circulated around social media. She didn’t provide any of her own commentary initially, she just asked me, “What do you think about this?” View this post on Instagram Black Women really be out here saving the world # A post shared by millennialmarried (@millennialmarried) on Sep 9, 2019 at 8:09am PDT   I could see why she had an issue with this man’s explanation. Here we are centuries after slavery and White men are still using the labor of Black women to their benefit. He described Black women as being “less selfish” and “having his best interest” at heart. And then there’s the pain evoked by “y’all raised us even when we refused to let you read.” Damn. This White man didn’t tell any lies. But his truths are still hurtful. Perhaps he perceives Black women as being less selfish because historically we’ve had to take care of White masters, White children, Black men and Black children at the expense of ourselves. Instead of continuing to perpetuate that cycle, as a real ally or advocate for these women he should be looking for ways that these women can invest in themselves. The same can be said for them having his best interest at heart. At the expense of what? To their personal lives have to suffer so his business can grow? Since he understands the role Black women played during slavery, does he also understand that the we were conditioned to put the needs of White men, financial, emotional and sexual, ahead of our own for survival and not through our own free will? Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). For as much as this White man seems to understand the dynamics of slavery, he doesn’t seem to be doing enough to change them. And this is the reason why I told my friend I didn’t have a problem with this idea. While I wouldn’t argue that it’s progressive in any way, I think that this White man is doing what White men in this country and every other capitalist in this country has done for centuries, making money. I say this all the time and I continue to repeat it mostly because so many of life’s occurrences remind us of the fact that while legalized slavery has ended, we’ve taken the model into our businesses. Think about, in most businesses, the CEO or the person at the top does the least work but makes the most money. This person may have very little knowledge or ability to run the day-to-day operations of the business; yet they make decisions that directly impact the lives of their workers. And as the White man suggested employees, while offered very little or nothing at all in terms of equity, are expected to be invested in the business’ success while they are expendable. People have literally died overworking themselves for companies that will replace them within a week of their funeral—if not before. So while the White man’s sentiments aren’t progressive or kind-hearted, his business is no different than the companies many of us work for. And as we fight for representation and employment in various industries, I can’t help but believe that this White man is doing this. In the short term, these Black women are employed and hopefully being appropriately compensated. I pray that the work environment is fair and that they’re able to take the skills they’ve learned and developed there to companies, perhaps in the future, that have work models that are more favorable than what we have today. SMH: Jack In The Box Drive-Thru Employee Fired For Mocking Deaf Woman & Refusing To Serve Her

Link:

A deaf woman in California was both mocked and refused service by an employee at Jack in the Box  after she passed the speaker at the drive-thru and went directly to the service window to place her order. ReVae Arnaud-Jensen explained why she was unable to use the drive-thru’s speaker and then attempted to give her order to the employee directly on August 31 – which is when she was berated by the worker. Her son, Malachi Jensen, eventually started to film the interaction. He told NBC News that he began to record because the interaction is a “common problem” faced by deaf people. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). The video was shared by Arnaud-Jensen on her Facebook page and shows her attempting to explain to the Jack in the Box worker that she is deaf. She can be heard saying, “I can’t hear” and “you’re discriminating.” In response, the worker said, “I don’t care. … Go. Go. Go. Go.” At one point, the employee told the customer to “shut up.” At the end of the video, Arnaud-Jensen tried to simply place her order again. The Jack in the Box employee then seemingly mocks her sign language, laughs, and shuts the drive-thru window in her face. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! Email Submit Malachi says he and his mother sat outside the restaurant for two hours until they were finally given their order. “It was my first time seeing an employee acting like that, and honestly I was very shocked. I felt pretty mad too because deaf people very often get treated differently,” he told NBC News. Jack in the Box ended up issuing a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle on the incident, saying the following:  “We do not tolerate the mistreatment of any customers and expect employees to follow all training procedures, be respectful, courteous and accommodating to all guests,” the company said. “After a thorough investigation of the incident and direct contact with the local franchise owner, we understand the employee in the video has been terminated.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://rickeysmileymorningshow.com” id=”1886500″ overlay=”true”] ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : 74-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth To Twins Nah! Algee Smith Breaks Down What Really Happened On McKay’s “Uncomfortable” Episode Of ‘Euphoria’

Source: Michael Kovac / Getty Algee Smith Reflects On McKay’s Euphoria Episode In New Interview When BOSSIP spoke to Euphoria star Algee Smith last month, he hinted at a specific scene in the show that made him particularly uncomfortable to shoot. I won’t give it away but I have this scene in one episode and it really challenged me as a man to do that scene. It was an uncomfortable scene for me, but I had to learn how to separate myself and just be the actor because someone might be dealing with that type. I had to get over my masculinity issues, as a black man we often have to realize it’s okay to be in this position for a minute. It’s not something that makes you less of a man but some things we just don’t feel comfortable with, like some men don’t feel okay crying. The episode of the series that focused on his character, Christopher McKay, aired last week, which also featured the scene that Smith was referencing above. The shocking turn of events had everyone talking, confused on what really went down when McKay was attacked by a group of fraternity members during an intimate moment with his girlfriend, Cassie. Algee Smith spoke to Complex following the episode causing an uproar to talk about his experience filming, what really happened in that scene, and what we can expect for McKay in the future. On what actually went down in that McKay scene: When I first read that in the script, I [wasn’t] comfortable at first because I thought it was just too much but he’s not harassed in the way that everybody thinks; it’s a hazing thing, [but] people think he’s getting raped or whatever. It’s like, nah, that’s just like messing with him, pinning him down, but the way it really looks on TV, it looks really dark. So I could see how people would think that because the editing made it look so dark. People just don’t know how to respond, [which is] really good though—when people don’t know, they ask questions. That keeps the conversation going. On Euphoria’s reception overall: The demographic is so wide, everyone is being targeted. So you got mothers and fathers who are talking, you got teenagers, you got college students, you got older people, you got the LBGTQ [community] that we’re talking to. We’re talking to everyone. We don’t [pull] any punches and I think that’s the great thing about it, we can relate to everyone. On his favorite episode of the series so far: I’m going to say my favorite was [“The Next Episode”], that’s where I feel like, just because knowing the work that went into it, and knowing how proud I made our director, I would say my episode is probably my favorite so far, but they’ve all been crazy. Everyone was getting crazy and there’s cliffhangers with everyone. On where Algee sees himself 5 years from now: I can see myself very well balancing my acting and my music. I can see myself touring. You’re going to consistently hear me on the radio, on the speaker, and on your screen. That’s my goals, be consistent just keep doing what I’m doing at a high level, getting better every year. With Euphoria already being renewed for season 2 just a few episodes in, there’s no question that this series is going to tell a lot of interesting stories in the future–and Algee is just as excited as we are.

Source: Santiago Felipe / Getty After taking an extended two-month hiatus from her show, Wendy Williams finally revealed on Tuesday that since her leave of absence, she’s been recovering from addiction-related issues and is currently living in a sober house in Queens. “For some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house,” the host admitted as she shed a few tears on Tuesday’s episode of  The Wendy Williams Show . “And you know, I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past and I never went to a place to get the treatment. I don’t know how, except God was sitting on my shoulder and I just stopped.” Wendy went on to say that she wanted to be honest with her viewers because her fans know her to be a “very truthful and open person,” so she decided to make things public regarding her current situation and her experience with addiction. According to the host, the only person in her life who was aware of the extent of her addiction was her husband, Kevin Hunter . This is especially relevant considering all of the rumors surrounding some alleged infidelity in their marriage–but it looks like Wendy is sticking by her man and he’s sticking by her throughout this trying time in both of their lives. “There are people in your family, it might be you, who have been struggling, and I want you to know more of the story,” she continued. “So, this is my autobiographical story, and I’m living it. I’m telling you this.”   Wendy Williams went on to explain her new routine, which consists of her going to pilates, attending sober meetings around town in the tristate area, and then getting picked up by her 24-hour sober coach who brings her back to the sober house she’s been living in “with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family.” And it’s lights out by 10pm. “I know, either you are calling me crazy or the bravest woman you know…I don’t care,” she divulged. Wendy also took this opportunity to talk about the launch of her her nonprofit organization, the Hunter Foundation, which is a 24-hour hotline service that she said has “already successfully placed 56 people in recovery centers around the world.” As far as reactions go, fans around the globe are sending their positive vibes to Wendy for coming clean about such a taboo and difficult topic. SMFH: Deranged Dorito Declares National Emergency To Fund Border Wall

Source: Chip Somodevilla / Getty Here we go… Trump Declaring National Emergency Over Border Wall YOUR President is back on his bulls***. Deplorable, deranged Dorito announced that he’s declaring a national emergency to fund his border wall. The ever so musty MAGA made the announcement today to the press in the Rose Garden. According to Cheeto, it’s absolutely necessary for him to use around $8 billion (what happened to the $5.7 billion?) to build a wall to stop the flow of “drugs, criminals and illegal immigrants” that are an impending threat to national security. He added that we’re facing an “invasion” and praised China’s decision put fentanyl on the list of drugs punishable by the death penalty. The New York Times reports that he’ll divert $3.6 billion budgeted for military construction projects to the border wall along with $2.5 billion from counternarcotics programs and $600 million from a Treasury Department asset forfeiture fund. House Democrats are already planning to introduce legislation to block this move. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said they “will defend our constitutional authorities in the Congress, in the Courts and in the public, using every remedy available.” “The President’s emergency declaration, if unchecked, would fundamentally alter the balance of powers, inconsistent with our Founders’ vision. … The President is not above the law. The Congress cannot let the President shred the Constitution.” JUST IN: Joint statement from Democratic leaders Schumer, Pelosi: “This is plainly a power grab by a disappointed President, who has gone outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process.” https://t.co/z9CjJgdVgB pic.twitter.com/12NBesR5mX — ABC News (@ABC) February 15, 2019 Y’alls lil President is still losing it. Brace yourselves, a legal battle’s on the way.

New Levels: This Family Portrait Raised The ‘Black Excellence’ Bar To An All Time High

Continued here:

While scrolling through my IG feed on Monday evening, I came across a beautiful Black family with photos so pristine I initially thought they had to be actors or models working on a project of some sort. It turns out Writer and Speaker of Words   Ezekiel Azonwu took professional photos with his real life wife  Kiyanna Azonwu —and those are their real life kids posing and serving with all that poise. If I had to guess, I’d say the theme was Black excellence, Black opulence, Black decadence…because damn it, they shut it TF down. Meanwhile, your bebe kids crying at the mere mention of “say cheese”…lmao, I digress. Introducing their fifth child through these beautiful photos (swipe left), Mr. Azonwu also took the opportunity to share a message with his followers and it’s a word many of us could stand to apply to various areas of our lives. He wrote, “Yes it’s true! We are welcoming another child into this world soon! . To be honest, when my wife and I first discovered the news, we both fell into a depression like slump. WE WERE DONE! Four children was more than enough for us. Due to schedule one of us weren’t able to “seal the deal” on time, and weeks before the potential appointment, BOOM! I had to come to my senses after about a week. I reminded my wife there are things to mourn over, but a life is not one of them, so we ceased all negative talk surrounding this pregnancy and began to see how God had his hand on it all. We planned to keep it a secret until about 5 months, then it really just started feeling great to be able to limit when and what we allow the public to consume about us. So she’s due in a month! Granted this won’t be easy, but God will make it possible! ALL of our children are a blessing from God, and this final one will be no different! @thisisglory I love you, you’re a superhero. P.S. it’s a boy. And yes this is it we’ve ‘sealed the deal.’” What a beautiful family. More photos below. [ione_media_gallery src=”https://globalgrind.cassiuslife.com” id=”4252864″ overlay=”true”]
