Christina Aguilera Hit With Lawsuit

Suit alleges Sony Music paid wrong group to sample song for use in ‘Ain’t No Other Man.’ By Shawn Adler Christina Aguilera Photo: Denise Truscello/ WireImage Sorrows continue to come as battalions for pop superstar Christina Aguilera who, less than a week after getting arrested for public intoxication, may be back in hot water again due to a federal lawsuit filed against the singer and Sony Music by TufAmerica, according to TMZ.com . The lawsuit, filed in New York, claims Sony paid the wrong distributer for rights to the 1968 song “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut” by Dave Cortez and the Moon People, which Aguilera sampled for her Grammy winning hit “Ain’t No Other Man.” TufAmerica reportedly owns the rights to the song, which Sony arranged to sample through deals with Condigo Mysic and the Clyde Otis Music Group. TufAmerica is seeking to nullify other publishers’ claims to the rights, as well as punitive damages. The lawsuit comes at the tail end of a rough year for the 30-year-old diva, which began with the poor sales of her album Bionic and continued with a canceled U.S. tour , a flop in her big-screen debut “Burlesque” and a divorce from her husband Jordan Bratman . Aguilera’s woes got worse in 2011, with a now infamous flub of the National Anthem during the Super Bowl pre-game show, and an arrest on March 1 for public intoxication . “She was not capable of taking care of herself. … She was incapacitated, not belligerent, but just intoxicated,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department spokesperson Steve Whitmore said of the arrest in a press conference. Aguilera will not be prosecuted for the misdemeanor offence. “Ain’t No Other Man” was the lead single on Aguilera’s third album Back to Basics. For it, Aguilera won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Related Artists Christina Aguilera

Matthew Rutler Mug Shot, Christina Aguilera Arrest Details: Released!

New details have emerged on Christina Aguilera’s recent arrest , and they don’t make the singer or boyfriend Matthew Rutler look very good. Sources tell TMZ that Christina and her man dined in a private room at posh Los Angeles restaurant Osteria Mozza until well past midnight. Deep into a couple bottles of wine, a fellow patron reportedly recognized Aguilera, asked the waiter to send her a drink and was told: “She’s already drinking a bottle of wine… or two.” Hilarious. Meanwhile, both Rutler and Aguilera have been released from jail. They are allegedly holing up in her Beverly Hills home. Pulled over by police for swerving on the road, Rutler blew a .09 on the breathalyzer, according to Radar Online. The legal limit in California is .08. He doesn’t look too broken up about it in the mug shove above, does he? As for Christina, L.A. County Sheriff Office spokesperson Steve Whitmore says Aguilera was a complete mess when she and Rutler were pulled over: “When she got out of the car, she couldn’t stand. We had to help her stand. She didn’t know where she was and she didn’t know her own address. We took her into custody for her own protection.”

UPDATE 09-19-10: FOUND Unharmed |13 Members (Including Eight Children) of "Cult-Like" Group Missing | May Have Plans for Mass Suicide | Palmdale, California | Videos

14 members of 'cult-like' group missing Six adults and eight children of a “cult-like” group in southern California were reported missing Saturday after they left behind notes saying they were going to meet Jesus and dead relatives, authorities say Police: Missing 'cult-like' group may have plans for mass suicide By the CNN Wire Staff September 19, 2010 3:32 a.m. EDT Members of a church group led by Reyna Chicas were reported missing amid fears they may be planning to take their own lives. Los Angeles, California (CNN) — A “cult-like” group of 14 Salvadorans — including eight children — is missing in southern California after leaving behind notes indicating plans to commit a mass suicide, authorities said. The six boys and two girls in the group are ages 3 to 17, said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. “The letters essentially state that they [missing persons] are all going to heaven shortly to meet Jesus and their deceased relatives,” the California governor's office said. “Numerous letters found say goodbye to their relatives. It is believed, through further investigation, that the missing persons' intentions are to commit mass suicide.” Investigators issued an alert Saturday night asking for assistance in locating the group from Palmdale. The alert was issued after two husbands of church members reported them missing, the governor's office said in a statement. Though the notes did not mention suicide, the outcome seems like a strong possibility, Whitmore said. The group is traveling in three vehicles — a 2004 Nissan Quest, a 1995 Mercury Villager and a remodeled Toyota Tundra, according to Whitmore. The group was reported missing Saturday afternoon — after it held a prayer meeting. “They left behind personal belongings and written notes … [saying] they're going to see dead relatives and Jesus,” Whitmore said. Items left behind include deeds to homes and cash, indicating “that someone is leaving it behind,” Whitmore said. The spokesman issued a televised plea to the group. “If you're watching this, come home,” Whitmore said. “Come home alive to the people who care for you.” Anyone with information is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Retailers Launch First National Non-GMO Month

This October, more than 580 natural food stores nationwide will take part in the first ever Non‐GMO Month, celebrating consumers' right to choose food and products that do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Organized by the non‐profit Non‐GMO Project, the event coincides with the launch of the “Non‐GMO Project Verified” seal on retail products. The process of genetic modification, which takes place in a laboratory, typically merges DNA from different species, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding. Virtually all commercial GMOs are bred to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. None of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increase yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit. Studies, meanwhile, increasingly show a correlation between consumption of GMOs and an array of health risks. With U.S. consumer confidence shaken by ongoing food safety failures, distrust of GMOs is growing. As a result, more and more consumers are seeking non‐GMO choices, and Nielson reported in February of this year that “GMO‐free” is now the fastest growing store brand label claim. The Grocery Manufacturers Association estimates that GMOs currently are in approximately 80% of conventional processed foods in the United States, but they are not labeled. This is in sharp contrast to most other developed nations around the world, where there are significant restrictions or outright bans on GMOs because they're not considered proven safe. To fill the information gap, a “Non‐GMO Project Verified” seal has been created. Manufacturers earn the seal through compliance with rigorous GMO avoidance standards, including ingredient testing, as part of the nation's first third party non‐GMO verification program. Nearly 900 products have been verified to date, with thousands more in the process of becoming verified and new products joining the program every day. Non‐GMO Month celebrations will draw consumer attention to Non‐ GMO Project products, as well as educate them about the GMO issue. “The Non‐GMO Project stays true to our mission to offer food in its most natural and unadulterated state, ” said Michael Besancon, Whole Foods Market senior global vice president of purchasing, distribution and marketing. “We're committed to offering non‐GMO food and products and to educating consumers so they can make informed choices.” Whole Foods Market stores nationwide will be participating in Non‐GMO Month, and Whole Foods also in the process of having its entire 365 private label brand verified to the Non‐GMO Project Standard. Close to 300 independent retailers and co‐ops also are participating in Non‐GMO Month. “Retailers started the Non‐GMO Project because of consumer concern and requests for non‐GMO foods,” said Corinne Shindelar, CEO of the Independent Natural Food Retailers Association (INFRA). “We have a responsibility to consumers to ensure the integrity of our food system, and among shoppers who value safe, healthy food, there is a strong desire to avoid GMOs. Non‐GMO Month is a fantastic opportunity to give people the information and non‐GMO choices they are looking for.” added by: JanforGore

Lindsay Lohan Goes To Jail ‘Accepting Responsibility,’ Lawyer Says

Sheriff’s spokesperson said actress was very ‘cooperative’ as she entered detention facility. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan with her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley on Wednesday Photo: Mark Ralston/ Getty Images Lindsay Lohan was stoic as she prepared to get handcuffed and taken off to Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, on Tuesday (July 20) morning. But behind that brave face was a 24-year-old who was frightened of what the next 90 days in jail would be like. “She’s scared as anyone would be,” Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, said after Lohan was escorted away, according to People.com . “But she’s resolute and she’s doing it. … She asks for your prayers and support.” Holley represented Lohan after resigning as her attorney earlier this month and being briefly replaced by by O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro, who stepped down from the case on Monday. She added that Lohan “is accepting responsibility and [has] stepped up to the plate and is doing what has been asked of her.” Lohan will likely only serve 23 days of her 90-day term due to jail overcrowding, but it will not be easy time, as she will spend nearly 23 hours a day in a 12-by-8-foot cell by herself. In a press conference following Lohan’s transfer, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Steve Whitmore said that the actress was “extremely cooperative” during her booking into jail to serve the sentence for violating the probation on a pair of DUI cases from 2007. Whitmore said the expected length of Lohan’s incarceration would be announced later in the day. “The crowd out here is a little unusual,” Whitmore said after Lohan was delivered to the Lynwood jail. “But inside, it’s business as usual.” According to the Los Angeles Times, after her booking, Lohan entered the jail’s triage, where she was slated to get the standard medical and psychological evaluation. Whitmore said all the usual state guidelines for prisoners would apply to Lohan, though he stressed that “people with notoriety are kept away” from the general jail population for security purposes. An employee at the detention center said the building went into lockdown when Lohan arrived around 10:11 a.m. PT. During that time, employees in the jail’s work-release program were asked to leave early, and inmates were held in their cells without restroom privileges or recreation time.
