Meek Mill To Receive Billboard’s First R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players Impact Award

Judy Eddy/WENN.com Meek Mill To Be Honored By Inaugural R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players Award Billboard  is throwing the first ever installment of a new awards show they have dubbed R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players. The show will air on Thursday, September 27 and has announced that the event’s marquee moment will be  Meek Mill  receiving the first ever “Power Players Impact Award.” CNN’s Van Jones will be the one to present Meek his award. Billboard  reports that they are hoping to recognize the “strength [Meek] has demonstrated in the face of America’s criminal justice system, the light he has shined on the country’s need for justice reform and his constant creative output.” Back in April, the Philly rapper was released from Pennsylvania state prison on bail after he was sentenced last November to two to four years in prison. The rapper is still fighting the probation violation charge that prompted the sentence, which was issued on the basis that he was arrested earlier last year, once for reckless driving and once for fighting at an airport, although both charges ended up being subsequently dropped. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered Mill’s release amid a contentious legal battle, in which the rapper’s lawyers argued that his judge was biased. Beyond that, his original arresting officer, who was the sole witness in the 2008 trial for drug and firearm charges that later resulted in Meek’s probation, was banned from witness stands by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office due to a history of “lying, racial bias, or brutality.” In the few months since Meek’s release, the Roc Nation rapper has been a very outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform. In addition to public comments, he formed a reform awareness foundation with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and partnered with Jay-Z to create a docu-series about about the criminal justice system. Congrats to Meek on the upcoming award.

Cory Booker Has More Receipts On Kavanaugh As Activists Try To Shut Down Confirmation

I f civil rights activists are looking for a strong chance at stopping Brett Kavanaugh ‘s confirmation, then Cory Booker may just be it.  The Democratic New Jersey Senator released more documents about the Supreme Court nominee on Wednesday night. RELATED: Brett Kavanaugh’s Dangerous Relationship With Race In America, Explained It’s clear that Booker is pulling out all the stops when it comes to bringing the controversial nominee’s record to light. He had already released confidential documents about Kavanaugh last week under the threat of a Senate Ethics Committee review and losing his Senate seat. In adding 28 more documents to the paper trail, Booker, who clearly isn’t here for Trump’s pick, is showing no signs of backing down from challenging the confirmation. We have added 28 new Kavanaugh “committee confidential” documents to the others publicly last week. All docs available here: https://t.co/n9IGe5UNgg — Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) September 12, 2018 With Booker and other Democrats’ fighting Kavanaugh replacing retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, the question is whether the Senate will consider the documents in their decision making. The documents are food for thought for the Senate Judiciary Committee, who met Thursday to discuss the matter. Senators will vote on the confirmation later this month, according to The Associated Press . The new batch of documents covers Kavanaugh’s role in judicial nominations and in the White House counsel’s office during the George W. Bush administration. The papers “raise more serious and concerning questions,” Booker said. Some documents show Kavanaugh’s connection to Bush’s nomination of Charles Pickering to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans — a 2002 move that was met with Senate opposition and questions about Pickering, a then-Mississippi federal judge, being racist. Pickering ultimately got the court seat. Kavanaugh testified before the committee that he was not “substantially involved” in Pickering’s nomination. At this point, senators have a total of 75 documents on the table about the nominee. An unapologetic Booker is on a mission in vetting Kavanaugh, who has been viewed by activists as a candidate that would undermine civil rights progress under instruction from Trump. I will continue releasing so-called ‘committee confidential’ docs because it is important that American people see Kavanaugh’s entire record. No effort to intimidate me into silence will keep me from my moral & Constitutional duty. https://t.co/Yptiy4q0W4 — Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) September 12, 2018 SEE ALSO: Omarosa Goes Ballistic On XM Radio Show, Calls Host A ‘B***h’ Amber Guyger Is Blaming Botham Jean For Getting Shot And Killed In His Own Home [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3404967″ overlay=”true”]

Donald Trump Interrupts The Bachelorette, Gets Blasted by Furious Fans

Just because you follow  The Bachelorette  Spoilers  and know how things end doesn't mean that you don't want to enjoy the episode in peace. But, this week,  The Bachelorette  was interrupted by the exact opposite of peace — it was an announcement of Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick. And the Bachelor Nation was  pissed . Chris Harrison warned viewers in advance that Trump would be preempting the broadcast. But the Bachelor Nation has been waiting for ages to  watch Colton Underwood tell Becca Kufrin that he's a virgin . Most people get their breaking news from Twitter and their in-depth coverage from online articles these days, so it was understandably difficult for many people to understand why they needed to waste 20 minutes of their lives. And, as you may have heard, Trump isn't exactly hitting any record highs for Presidential popularity. So the Bachelor Nation took to Instagram to vent their fury and frustration. Take a look: 1. Fans were pissed This tweet shows that you can care about politics but still be furious that you’re missing your show. People can do both. 2. Is this evidence of Trump hypocrisy? Honestly, “caring about women” is not really part of his brand. 3. This has happened before Remember when Trump interrupted Bachelor in Paradise? What does he have against the pursuit of love? 4. The language became colorful It takes a lot of audacity to interrupt primetime television and take twenty entire minutes to read one name. 5. Trump was not what the Bachelor Nation wanted to see Seriously. And now everyone wants to know how Blake’s mom feels about what he decided to share with the world. 6. This is what you’d call a swing voter That’s probably an easy promise to make. Unless you have some sort of pathology that makes you crave the spotlight so much that you schedule a briefing for primetime. View Slideshow

A dam Trammell ’s father is furious that the criminal justice system allowed two cops who repeatedly shocked his mentally ill son with stun guns last year will not face justice. SEE ALSO: Report: Most Victims Shot By Cops Are Mentally Ill Or In Crisis The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that there will be no charges against two police officers in the death of 22-year-old Trammell. District Attorney John Chisholm found “no basis to conclusively link Mr. [Adam] Trammell’s death to actions taken by police officers.” “This is a nightmare. I can’t believe this. I think those people should resign. The D.A. and the chief of that police department,” said Trammell’s father, Larry Trammell ,   according to USA Today . Two West Milwaukee police officers who “tortured Adam Trammell to death” will not be charged. Trammell, who was mentally ill, was naked in the shower when police broke down his door, tased him 18 times, broke his rib, and gave him a black eye. https://t.co/ABgDOk6Jf7 — Fair Punishment Project (@FairPunishment) April 27, 2018 The two officers responded to a call on May 25 at the apartment complex where Trammell lived. A neighbor was concerned that he was experiencing a psychotic episode. Another neighbor who lived in the unit below Trammell’s apartment told the officers that water was leaking through the ceiling. The cops broke down Trammell’s door and found him naked, taking a shower. Bodycam footage showed Trammell confused but calm when the cops confronted him. The officers used a Taser 15 times over a 30-minute period after he struggled to prevent them from taking him out the shower. Trammell ultimately lost consciousness, and the officers handcuffed him. He wasn’t breathing and had no pulse when the paramedics put him into the ambulance. Trammell was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. “These police tortured Adam Trammell to death,” said Robin Shellow , a lawyer representing his family. “This was not ‘help.’ They were not protecting or serving anyone. Naked, cold, confused, alone in his own bathroom and crying for Jesus to take him, he needlessly suffered.” It’s no surprise that the cops are back on duty, without fear of prosecution. “If you are mentally ill and black, you already have two strikes against you if you come into contact with law enforcement,” wrote civil rights attorney Ben Crump , referring to the spate of high-profile police killings of mentally ill African Americans. In the article he wrote for CNN, Crump lamented a third strike, based on a U.S. Supreme Court decision on April 2. The justices ruled that an Arizona police officer who shot and killed a woman with a history of mental illness could not be sued. The court said the officer was entitled to qualified immunity. Under that legal doctrine, police are immune from excessive force lawsuits as long as they don’t violate “clearly established” rights that a “reasonable person would have known.” SEE ALSO: White House Spokeswoman Called ‘Uncle Tom’ At Correspondents’ Dinner Another Black Man Was Thrown Out Of A Restaurant For Just Sitting Down [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3440564″ overlay=”true”]

Thoughts? Model Says Jogging Naked In The Snow Will Keep You Looking Young

The rest is here:

Source: Adam Berry / Getty It’s time to throw away your moisturizers, creams, or any other home remedies you think keeps your skin healthy. One Ukrainian woman has all the answers when it comes to health and skin care, and they involve flirting with freezing temperatures. Meet  Inna Vladimirskaya.   Along with being a model, sex educator, life coach and blogger, Inna sets aside time every weekend to jog in the snow. Oh, and she swims in cold temperatures too, according to Metro . “Immersion in cold water makes the blood rush to the internal organs, activating their circulation, which helps break down fat and improve muscle tone,” she said.   She also said the cold temperatures help with muscle and joint pain, and it rejuvenates her skin due to the increased oxygen supply. “The walrus looks much younger than its actual age, because it spends so much time in cold water,” she said. “Humans can reap the same benefits if they are prepared to put the hard work in…I just make sure I don’t stay in the water too long, and as soon as I am out, I dry myself and go straight to my warm car.” Well, I don’t know anyone trying to look like a walrus, but I think I’ll stick to my shea butter and select oils, thank you. What do you think of Inna’s routine? Too much, or bring on the cold? Let us know on Twitter and Facebook!

‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Michaela Goes Rogue With Devastating Consequences

The rest is here:

Source: Bob D’Amico / Getty On the season finale of How to Get Away With Murder , we start with the autopsy! We thought it was Bonnie who died in the car crash last week, but it was Denver (remember, he was playing both sides)! BONNIE LIVES…and Nate is on a mission to find the hard drive. Annalise rallies her kids to tell them about Denver. Then, Laurel’s father calls her and demands to know where her mother is. Laurel says she doesn’t know, but he thinks she killed her mother and dangles her son again to hurt her. Laurel claims the last time Laurel saw her mother was when she confronted her at her hotel room, but that she left her still alive, and that maybe she just headed back to France. Asher, Connor, Oliver and Michaela are starting to wonder if maybe Laurel’s father’s concerns are true. Then Laurel gets a call. The FBI wants to talk to her because she was the last person to see Denver alive at his office. Annalise is present as Laurel’s attorney during this interrogation. Laurel handles herself well and tells them things that would make them investigate her father. via GIPHY Simon is awake and rapidly getting better, and Annalise is working on getting him the whistleblower protection, and securing his visa with the FBI. Michael and Oliver are the messengers but Simon doesn’t even want to see Oliver. That leaves Michaela to assures him that they got his back. Now that his mind is more lucid, he tells Michaela that he wants to see his deal or he’ll tell the police what really happened that night. Michaela tells him that that would be a big mistake. via GIPHY Later on, Nate comes through with the hard drive.YES! But they don’t find any illegal activity on it. Womp womp. Annalise then visits Tegan and demands to know what she knows and lets her know that she’ll go down with Jorge too if she doesn’t stop playing games. Tegan plays hardball and tells Annalise to get out of her office, but we’ll get back to this so hold that thought. Michaela informs Annalise about Simon’s threat and suggests they call ICE and have him deported. Annalise says absolutely not because that’s not who they are. Frank tells Laurel that he did some digging around and it seems like her mom just vanished without a trace. He asks her in a roundabout way if she killed her mother and once again Laurel is adamant that she didn’t. Annalise meets up with Jorge for a serious discussion. She has his precious hard drive and offers to give it to him and move on from his criminal activity if he gives Laurel sole custody of her son. He says his wife is missing and that he believes Laurel had something to do with it. Annalise pushes through his BS, tells him to sign the paperwork she gave him and to stop accusing Laurel of something they both know she’s not capable of. Jorge says she doesn’t know what Laurel is really capable of. Finally, Jorg signs her paperwork and tells Annalise that she stole Laurel from him. Then Annalise says she knows how it feels because he took Wes from her and that he’s putting Laurel through the same pain that he feels by taking her son. In the end, Laurel gets her son back and that’s what matters. Laurel’s preemie is thriving and improving by the day, and on the day she picks him up form the hospital, her father appears to ask her where her mother is, once again. She repeats that she doesn’t know and tells him that he and her mother are dead to her. And just as Jorge leaves the hospital, the feds swoop down and arrest him. via GIPHY Then we cut Tegan with the same agent who questioned Laurel earlier. Now, let’s take it back to Annalise’s visit to Tegan’s office earlier. It worked. Tegan pretended to verbally assault Annalise because you know Jorge be wiretapping, but Tegan wrote down that she was in. Tegan gets immunity to sing like a bird. Then Annalise is with Bonnie and crew saying that Simon is being taken care of, but Michaela tells them she got the drop on Simon first. She called ICE on him over the gun charge (it wasn’t even his gun) and now he will be getting deported back to Pakistan, which was his worst nightmare. Everyone is pissed at Michaela. She broke all of our hearts with this one, but she doesn’t even seem to care when Annalise confronted her about it. In other news Annalise and co. find out that the supreme court ruled in her favor with her class action suit. This makes her a legal powerhouse on a national level. Annalise gives an interview to discuss her case and how everyone deserves a second chance. During this montage about second chances, we see various vignettes. One where Nate looks at old files. It looks like he’s looking at Bonnie’s record and there’s a note on the bottom that says “child alive.” Then we see Frank enrolling in school again, but it’s because he is on a mission to find the kid, who is also enrolled in the same school. They keep cutting to this black kid and Frank spots him too, then he gets on the phone and says, “The kid’s here.” We don’t know who he’s talking to, though. Finally, Laurel is in new motherhood bliss, but she’s also stressed out so she gets in the shower and we see some scratches on her arm. That’s obviously suspect and now we’re wondering if she did kill her mother. You know somebody has to get away with murder, perhaps next season it’s Laurel’s turn. ‘How To Get Away With Scandal’ Recap: The AnnOlivia Voltron Is Women’s History Month Goals

Follow this link:

Source: Frederick M. Brown / Getty Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating are respectively revered and despised so it was only a matter of time that they meet and we’re so glad that this day has finally come! SHOOK! Tonight’s TGIT crossover event is How to Get Away With Scandal , and it’s everything we needed our Thursday night TV session to be, especially as our lit Black History Month ends and gives way to Women’s History Month. via GIPHY The first portion of the show is the Scandal hour. We pick back up at Olivia’s lecture. She is moonlighting as a professor since her people in Washington DC are done with her, and the lecture is about How to Survive a Scandal . Her students aren’t doing so well answering her questions, but Annalise fills in the gaps where they lack and Olivia is impressed. Annalise shoots her shot at the end of the lecture. Olivia is not interested in taking the case at first, citing that she knows about Annalise is a hot mess and wishes her luck with the case. Annalise urges her to look the case over and think about it, and we all know what will happen. Olivia has been trash the past few episodes, but we know she’s about social justice too. She talks it over with Marcus and he obviously gives her the push she needs to move past Annalise’s past and give the case a shot. You already know how he feels about black and brown people in numbers at disproportionate rates. Prison reform for the win! Olivia informs Annalise that she’s taking the case on, but she has to play by her rules now that she’s in DC. The problem is, Olivia is not on good terms with Mellie, who can get the case seen by the supreme court without a problem. Olivia tries her luck with Fitz because you know his post-presidency work with the Fitzgerald Institute is about prison reform. He’s cold and distant, rightfully so. But Liv humbles herself and explains what she’s doing, and he gives her a much-needed pep talk and gets them a meeting with Mellie. Now its Annalise, Olivia, Fitz, Michaela and Marcus meeting at the oval office. It’s cute to see Annalise’s excitement to be at the White House for the first time, but of course, she gets down to business. Unfortunately, Mellie decides to pass on the case because it would be a headache to pass it to the Supreme Court. It’s a huge case, judges resigning, there’s politics involved, and ain’t nobody willing to make time for that. Liv speaks to Mellie privately and asks her if she’s doing this just to spite her. Mellie says that she’s not shutting it down completely, but she wants to hold off for now. Liv accepts the challenge and tells her she’s going to get this case to the supreme court with or without her. Mellie tells her that she only took the meeting as a favor to Fitz and, if she does go around her then Liv will find herself an adversary of the White House vs. her current standing, which is that the public still views her favorable because they don’t know all that she did. Liv reminds her that this wouldn’t be her first time at the rodeo. Game on. And it is going to be a major battle. via GIPHY First, Jake gets Quinn to urge the gladiators to find dirt that can discredit judges and keep the case out of the Supreme Court by blackmail. Meanwhile, Annalise expresses disappointment in Liv. But instead of just owning up to her mistakes, Liv makes Annalise think that Mellie isn’t sold on the case because of her past. This is the start of their frenemy tension and they continue to bump heads as they reconvene and figure out the next steps, and you know they both have sharp tongues. Michaela and Marcus are the only ones keeping them kind of level-headed for now. At some point, Annalise asks Olivia where she can get her hair done and they end up at the beauty where they’re bonding at first, but their #BlackGirlJoy is stolen swiftly by a news story about how “sources” are saying that Olivia is only taking the case as a vendetta against Mellie because contrary to popular belief, she didn’t leave the White House on Good terms. This item is obviously a plant by the ops and the jig is up for Olivia. Liv asks the stylists to leave so they can talk and it gets ugly again. Annalise reads Olivia for filth for judging her and for thinking she’s better than her (since she grew up privileged), and says she’s no different than the racist white people she has to deal with in the courtroom. Then Liv gets her turn to berate Annalise. She calls her pathetic and broke. Lordt. Basically, they’re frenemies again and this is kind of serving jigaboos vs. wannabes from School Daze . Olivia visits Quinn and tries to talk sense into her because Quinn really does what justice for people. Olivia reminds her that it’s important that she put her negative feelings toward her aside. Quinn plays hardball, but you know she’ll come around. And through all of this, Olivia feels defeated, but it’s Fitz who talks her off the ledge and reminds her who she used to be, who she still is at her core. via GIPHY Then Charlie gives Quinn dirt on Spivey, one of the Supreme Court judges, but hold that thought. Olivia’s next line of offense is a media tour. She has been appearing on various outlets with Annalise to talk about the case and she admits in an interview that she was fired by Mellie Grant without admitting that she’s a criminal. The admission is part of Olivia’s philosophy, which Annalise reminded her of, that the truth can be your greatest weapon. And it is. Unfortunately for them, Marcus delivers the news that Spivey won’t hear the case. Olivia apologizes Annalise but keeps up the good fight and luckily for her, Quinn is thinking about the 90 inmates who didn’t get a fair trial. She shows up at Olivia’s place and hands her an envelope. The envelope contains the dirt. Basically, Spivey’s son killed someone in a hit and run years ago and Spivey paid off the witness to not speak about it. This means that the White House can control him with this secret. However, the witness Spivey paid off died two years ago so there’s still a chance to salvage this. Olivia pays him a visit, hands him the envelope, and encourages him to do the right thing. She’s not even trying to blackmail him here but she urges him to think about how he would feel if his son would have gone to trial. He would have wanted him to get the best representation. Those 90 people deserved that too. Victory! The Supreme Court got the case on the docket. Now that Olivia got Annalise what she wanted, they could part ways but they lowkey like each other and decide that they want to keep working on this together. via GIPHY And then we get into the How to Get Away With Murder portion of this. Annalise’s kids are headed to DC because they’re obviously super excited about this. Olivia and Annalise are hard at work on the case because they fight to win but there’s always a hater lurking in the shadows fighting harder. In this case, that would be Ingrid Egan, the opposing lawyer. She has been doing interviews talking reckless about Annalise and Olivia. She brings up their shady reputations and claims that they’re doing this case as a distraction, but it only ends up working in their favor and they even get offers of help from lawyers from the ACLU. Annalise denies the help, but Liv points out that if she loses this case it will set criminal justice reform back decades. Duh! And it’s important to mention that Nate’s father is the face of the case so he’s going to DC. Pressure. Lots and lots of pressure. via GIPHY Back in Philly, Frank tells Bonnie that Laurel’s mom told him that she paid Wes $100K to stay away from Laurel and he took the money. But, Frank says he can’t find electronic proof of the money. Hold that thought. Michaela and Marcus finally end up getting it on. The chemistry between them has been undeniable, and at the trial, Connor, Oliver, and Laurel pick up on it and question her about what she did. She tells the truth but begs them not to tell Asher because it will destroy him. Connor can’t promise that he won’t because he’s feeling salty that Michaela took this case from her. Plus, all these people are messy so it’s going to come out at some point, but this ain’t the episode for that. via GIPHY Annalise then gets a call from a blocked number. It’s Jacqueline (Isaac’s wife). It turns out that he overdosed, but he’s not dead, but his kidneys are failing and Jacqueline blames Annalise. Jacqueline tells Annalise that she ruined him just like she ruins everyone on her life and that is a major trigger. This is why we don’t answer blocked numbers. via GIPHY Annalise is in the bathroom crying and freaked but Olivia gives her a Pope-style pep talk and gets her back in the game. Annalise gets down to business in the courtroom but the judges play hardball and aren’t feeling Nate’s father as the face of the case. As far as one judge, in particular, is concerned, Nate’s pops is just a criminal and not a victim. And then the judge gets really annoyed when Annalise says that race is a factor in this case. Statistics show that black and brown people are policed heavier and receive longer sentences for the same crimes as their white counterparts. When Annalise’s facts don’t work and the judge is close to dismissing her, Annalise asks for a break so that she can get herself together, and has Michaela research a specific case. It turns out that the case was a case based on race tried by the judge who was antagonizing her. Basically, his words in that particular case is that race can be an issue in certain legal situations because the legal system was not built in favor of certain people. Annalise uses these words against the judge, who even forgot that those were his words, and things start to look up as the other justices challenge him. Everyone on Annalise’s team, including Olivia looks proud. Back in Philly, we discover that Frank went digging to find the cash and finds a hard drive instead. It contains audio of a convo between Wes and Laurel’s mom that proves Laurel’s mom is lying to her. Finally, Olivia tells Annalise that she got a call from President Grant who says that the case might swing in their favor. Annalise says she’ll believe it when she sees it in writing and they part ways, but we all hope they keep in touch because they ended up bringing out the best in each other once they got through all the BS. But the bad news is also not far behind. Annalise gets another call, and it’s from Bonnie. Simon is awake. They all better pray that he has amnesia. See you next week!
