Can You Be “Friends” And “Lovers”?

With the unwavering strides technology has made on how we communicate, it’s inevitable that our relationships will be affected – both good and bad. Since many people now prefer to text/bbm rather than talk on the telephone the dynamics on how we interpret and interact with each other has shifted dramatically. Even though our messages are getting across much more rapidly than ever before, we’ve lost the personal connection to one another, especially when it comes to our love relationships. Local station KFOR-TV in Oklahoma captured some incredible footage of a tornado that ripped through Oklahoma City last night. While doing a live report, the crew found itself in the middle of the twister. At one point in its coverage, the cameraman films telephone polls being ripped out of the ground, and as the news van turns to flee, one such poll appears to hover in mid-air over the road, barely… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : The Blaze Discovery Date : 25/05/2011 16:31 Number of articles : 2

Bristol Palin Stays, Brandy Goes: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Fans React

‘It’s not about talent, but a popularity contest,’ one MTV News commenter fumes. By Kara Warner Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Photo: ABC With every season of “Dancing with the Stars,” there are early favorites and front-runners and at least one shocking elimination. On Tuesday night, viewers got their shocker of the season (or second shock, if you’re an Audrina Patridge fan) when consistent high-scorer Brandy was eliminated . “People vote and their voices count,” Brandy’s partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy said after the elimination was announced. “I don’t regret a second … of being on this season. It’s been an amazing journey.” “I don’t know how I feel right now,” Brandy said, crying. The reactions to Brandy’s departure have been coming in fast and furious since the announcement. Most commenters took issue with the fact that Brandy is gone and Bristol Palin remains in the competition. “Brandy is so talented and she worked so hard. I was shocked she was eliminated!” Sharon wrote. “I thought the competition was really between her and Jennifer Grey. Bristol [Palin] has improved but she should have been off the show weeks ago. That was painful to watch — very painful!” “It’s just a silly dance contest,” John wrote. “This is a network television [show’s] dream to make millions watch their shows!!! Create animosity and sparks and make people angry over the winner to get more people watching and calling. You know they’re making money from all those AT&T calls … plus the ratings are through the roof with this political angle they’ve cashed in on,” he said, referring to the outcry that supporters of former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin are keeping Bristol on the show. “Bristol is no star and has no talent and should not have been picked for the finals over Brandy,” commenter Marianne fumed. “Brandy did beautifully and got better each week. I can’t believe Bristol’s scores were more than Brandy’s. This show is a hoax! It’s not about talent, but a popularity contest. If Bristol wins, I’ll never watch this show again!” Other complaints brought up problems with the telephone voting system for Brandy’s phone line. They claimed they couldn’t get through until time ran out. Despite all the anti-Palin sentiments, a few folks came to her defense, however. “I can’t believe how mean you people are, always picking on Bristol,” Barbara wrote. “No, she is not the best dancer but she has progressed from a wall flower to being a confident young lady because of DWTS. She has become a ‘good’ dancer. It has taken a lot of courage to go on this show. At least 2 countries can vote and as many Democrats are eligible to vote as Republicans. How do you figure it’s just the state of Alaska and Republicans voting?? It also has to do with personality and improvement. Brandy is a great dancer but she is a whiner and Maks is arrogant! Jennifer is a beautiful dancer and she has improved greatly. Give Bristol a break!!!!” What do you think of the elimination? Will Palin get voted off next week? Share your thoughts in the comments! Rachel Bilson Single and Shopping of the Day

I uploaded these pictures thinking they were a lot more exciting. I’m not really sure why, because Rachel Bilson has been consistently boring as fuck since she left the OC. I used to just blame the kid from Star Wars for kidnapping her and brainwashing her in his Canadian barn he made her live in, but now she’s got nothing to blame but herself for fucking sucking and not fucking sucking the way we like…. I guess it’s one of those situations where you lock a bitch in the basement for the first 15 years of her life, before getting caught when the telephone company sticks their noses where they don’t belong, only to get you arrested, and getting her released to the public where she is never quite right and always quite weird….. But this is Hollywood….and we don’t have patience for these cunts who could have been flashing pussy with the best of them 5 years ago…not flashing pussy now that they are allowed….she needs to really figure out her priorities and step the fuck up and live out a youth of sluttiness that was stolen from her…cuz all these recent pics of her make me and everyone else fucking sleepy….

Psycho Talk: Jealous Ed Schultz Claims He Could Easily Rally 300k on National Mall

There’s not really much you can say about this claim, beyond “suuuuure.” Ed Schultz, who attracts just over a quarter of Glenn Beck’s viewership (700,000 vs. 2.6 million viewers), claimed he could out-rally the Fox News host, whose “Restoring Honor” event attracted an estimated 300,000 people to the National Mall on Saturday. “I guarantee you, I could do more than 300,000!” claimed the man who just last week found out he didn’t make the cut for an MSNBC promo. “It ain’t a big deal!” Schultz also claimed that the crowd size at Beck’s rally has absolutely no bearing on Democrats’ prospects in November. Wishful thinking on both counts, it seems. Audio and transcript via Brian Maloney at the Radio Equalizer: Hold it right there! Before we get to her answer, I could get every union head in this country, I could organize every progressive group in this country, the main bloggers. This could be The Ed March. Folks, 300,000 people on the heels of six months’ promotion, that ain’t no big shakes! This is no sign that there’s going to be any big turn of events when it comes to the ballot box and there will be no Democrats in the congress. This is no tea leaf about, “well gosh, they’re coming in November.” Six months’ promotion, NBC News says 300,000 people. I bet I could do that! I bet I could do that with this radio show and my TV show and six months’ production, six months’ promotion, if I had the budget I could equal that march. I know I could! I know I could! I know that I could get Leo Gerard, i could get the Service Employees International Union, I could get AFSCME, I could get all these–I guarantee you, I could do more than 300,000! It ain’t a big deal!

Vanity Fair Attacks Palin as Volatile, Angry, Fake

Another day, another media hit piece aimed at Sarah Palin. Surprise, surprise. A  10,600-word article  in the October issue of Vanity Fair reads like the rambling diaries of a spurned middle school student. Writer Michael Joseph Gross ran through a list of ill-sourced, hearsay attacks on Palin designed to depict her as a raging psychopath – a far cry from the down-to-earth “hockey mom” she portrays in public. But in more than 10,600 words, Gross managed to cite just one person to criticize Palin on the record. Colleen Cottle, who served on the Wasilla City Council when Palin was mayor, complained that she “had no attention span” and “does not understand math or accounting.” Heavy-hitting stuff, that. None of the others Gross apparently interviewed were named, he said, “because they are loyal and want to protect her (a small and shrinking number), or because they expect her prominence to grow and intend to keep their options open, or because they fear she will exact revenge, as she has been known to do.” But given the tone of Gross’s attacks, it’s no wonder those who are close to Palin – including her parents, whom Gross apparently ambushed during a Fourth of July parade in Wasilla – refuse to speak to reporters. Gross described the “surreal world Palin now inhabits – a place of fear, anger, and illusion, which has swallowed up the engaging, small-town hockey mom and her family – and the sadness she has left in her wake.” “Anywhere you peel back the skin of Sarah Palin’s life, a sad and moldering strangeness lies beneath,” Gross said. Among his ground-breaking revelations about Palin: She has a well-controlled media presence. (Apparently unlike any other prominent political figure.) Her team didn’t tip bellhops very well in a Kansas hotel, and “another midwestern hotel.” (The “other midwestern hotel” must have asked not to be named, for fear of reprisal from the Palin camp.) Some bloggers have been mean to Palin detractors. Gross later admitted that anti-Palin bloggers are also prone to “juvenile outbursts.” Palin uses references to the North Star a lot. Palin uses three BlackBerry smart phones. Early in the campaign she didn’t know who Margaret Thatcher was – a charge Gross credits to no specific or even unidentified source. She thanks people for praying for her and uses “code phrases expressing solidarity with fundamentalist Christians.” She apparently bought some form-shaping Spanx underwear. There are “No Trespassing” signs on her Wasilla property. Gross’s attacks on Palin center on the characterization that she is volatile and vengeful. “[W]hen she feels threatened, she does not hesitate to wield some version of a signature threat, ‘I have the power to ruin you,'” Gross alleged, citing “others who have worked with Palin.” At one point Gross made it seem as though Palin monitored the telephone conversations of acquaintances in Wasilla. “When I ask about Palin, though, a palpable unease creeps in,” he wrote. “Some people clam up. Others whisper invitations to call later – but on this number, not that one, and not before this hour or after that one.” The real concern, he said after acknowledging a vicious press as one reason for discomfort, is “because of a suspicion that bad things will happen to them” if Palin finds out they’ve talked to reporters. The online version of the report also featured a drawing depicting Palin dressed in some sort of Viking gear, riding a white horse past a group of (pro-Palin, it would seem) protestors. The photo caption notes Palin’s “erratic behavior and a pattern of lying.” The article fits right in with previous coverage of Palin. A 2008  study by the Culture and Media Institute  found two basic media characterizations of Palin: a dunce whose intellectual shortcomings damaged her credibility and that of the GOP, or a demon whose short-fuse and attack-dog style were unbecoming of a woman who portrayed herself a wholesome, all-American gal.

13-Year-Old Fights for Grandfather’s Life on Facebook

About two months ago, 13-year-old Logan Ludwig was told that his grandfather, a well-regarded police officer of 19 years, had stage-four lung cancer. A sad story, yes, but it gets worse. Officer Paul Ludwig worked for the Washington, D.C., Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD). Due to a loophole in the disability pensions policy, the Metro knocked Ludwig's pension from $2,800 a month to $770, a huge difference that forced Officer Ludwig to sell his home, declare bankruptcy and move in with his son. Devastated by the injustice toward his grandfather, the 13-year-old took it upon himself to create a Facebook group for his family, fellow police officers and other cancer survivors. His goal: to share the family's tale and garner support. Continue reading to learn how this teen used Facebook for something more important than Farmville. Much to the family's surprise, the story hit home with others who came across it, and the group grew to over 25,000 fans (gaining an average of 3,000 per day). As the press got involved, people became outraged at Metro's behavior, dubbing it a “BP moment” for the D.C. transit authority. “Supporters, a lot of them police officers and other servicemen and women, began pouring out their well wishes for Dad,” said Mark Ludwig, Logan's uncle and Officer Ludwig's youngest son, in an exclusive interview with Asylum. “Our Facebook friends took matters into their own hands and used any means necessary to contact WMATA and get Dad's story out there in the world.” The WMATA and MTPD fought back by deleting user comments on their Facebook page and, eventually, excusing themselves from the social media scene entirely. Despite the increased pressure on them, WMATA still refuses to address the issue, aside from acknowledging the situation's unfairness. Sadly, Officer Ludwig passed away last Tuesday evening. “Our Dad was always the one fighting for what is right and protecting us and others his whole life. Now for us to have had to fight for him was — and is — difficult, but necessary,” says Mark. “The family has and will continue to share this story until my father's situation is corrected.” You can show your support by visiting Officer Ludwig's Facebook page or the family's blog. You can also contact WMATA and give them a piece of your mind. added by: TimALoftis
