Vanessa Hudgens’s Little Cleavage Show

It’s pretty rare that we get to see Vanessa Hudgens out in anything other than short shorts or leggings , but here she is at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Gorgeous & Green Gala proving that she cleans up pretty nice. And speaking of cleaning up and going green, I’ve got an environmental initiative of my own that I’d love to get Vanessa’s support on: I think the two of us could save a lot of water by showering together. I mean, I already do my part by only taking one a week, but if Vanessa wanted to get in on that, I think it could do a lot of good. MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer Pleads for Government to Force Environmentalism

During Monday's12PM ET hour on MSNBC, anchor Contessa Brewer helped promote the network's “Green is Progress” week by demanding greater government intervention to force people to follow an environmentalist agenda: “Until government says these are the standards that everyone has to aspire to, we're not really making progress.” Brewer made the comments while interviewing Practically Green CEO Susan Hunt Stevens and introduced the segment by touting the latest poll numbers on environmental awareness: “87% of Americans say they personally care about protecting the environment. 75% of Americans believe projects that protect the environment could also give us an economic boost….38% say the government should be most responsible for protecting the environment.” However, she fretted people weren't making enough sacrifices: “…everybody says in a survey, 'oh, do you want to live greener? Do you personally care about the environment?' Yes. 'Are you willing to spend 25 cents extra in a federal gas tax that would definitely help improve the use of fuel?' Not so much.” View video below read more

First US Tar Sands Project Approved in Utah

This is what the tar sands did to Alberta’s boreal forests. Image via Boreal Song Bird Initiative You’ve likely heard about the infamous Tar Sands in Alberta, Canada. They’re a major source of controversy in the energy world and the environmental community (to put it lightly), and for good reason. Extracting oil from tar sands is far more degrading to the environment than typical oil extraction, as the process destroys forest, emits substantially more greenhouse gas, contaminates nearby habitat, and consumes mammoth amounts of water. And now, the United States cou… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Fertilizer Runoff Linked to Developmental and Reproductive Toxicity

Image: eutrophication&hypoxia’s photostream, Flickr Natural human optimism leads one to hope that hazardous chemicals wastes discarded by humans are broken down in the natural environment, until they are once again harmless. When scientists concern themselves with this process, it is usually to study the extent to which toxic chemicals harm the environment before they are finally degraded, or to measure the impacts of the degradation process, such as
