The Voice Recap: Who Made It to the Knockouts?

The Battle Rounds on The Voice have always served as a way to amp up the drama on the NBC juggernaut. We love drama, but not at the expense of dreams being dashed.  Most of the singers who make it through the Blind Auditions section of the show are already seasoned singers, so it makes little sense to have them battle it out.  It was night two of the grueling process, and there was not much in the way of shocks. Everyone who should have gotten through did, and that’s about all we could ask for.  Let’s break down the three battles that took place on the show.  Davon Fleming vs. Maharasyi – “I’m Your Baby Tonight” Maharasyi sprung a leak on the first day of rehearsals and struggled to keep up with Davon who was killing it. Jennifer noted that Davon went with it and proved he had what it took to advance to the next stage. It was pretty much the same thing during the performance. Davon was a clear frontrunner, but his voice was not as good as it was the first time we heard it. But that was still enough to win over Maharsayi who was sent packing.  Hannah Mrozak vs. Brandon Showell – “Cold Water” There was something off about Hannah during her rehearsal. She did not seem as into the competition as she should have been. This was the performance that was going to make or break her.  Brandon was decent in the performance, but it was clear he still had a lot of work to do if he wanted to advance to the next stage. Hannah’s performance improved as it went on, while Brandon’s stayed the same and it was not great.  Hannah was saved, while Brandon was sent home.  Mitchell Lee vs. Dennis Drummond – “Mr. Jones” This battle was always going to be a tough one. They both have very different voices, and that made their performance so delightful to watch. They don’t go together, so they should never duet.  Mitchell was saved by Blake, while Dennis was poached by Adam. That’s a wrap on Night Two! What did you think about the latest episode? The Voice Results: Who Survived the Bloodbath?

Monday night, The Voice top eight performances showed America everything the remaining contenders have left in the tank on NBC. Only four would survive … making this the mother of all results shows. So who would outlast the rest and who would fall by the wayside? In The Voice’s ever-changing, never-uninteresting format: Three artists of the final eight automatically advanced to the finale, while the bottom two were eliminated right off the bat Tuesday night. That left the remaining three artists had to battle it out for the instant save, so in that way it ended on the same note as previous weeks. The first artist to advance to the Season 12 finale, as per The Voice results unveiled last night, was … Team Alicia’s Chris Blue! Chris secured his second consecutive four-coach standing ovation the previous night, so that was hardly a surprise, or a fluke. Next up and on her way to the final episode of the season was Team Blake’s Lauren Duski. A job very well done by the singer. Carson Daly then announced the results that sent a third artist straight through to next week … Team Blake’s Aliyah Moulden. And then there were six … after Team Blake’s TSoul and Team Alicia’s Vanessa Ferguson were both eliminated just like that. That left the fans with the following three: 1. Team Adam’s Jesse Larson 2. Team Gwen’s Hunter Plake 3. Team Gwen’s Brennley Brown  Three singers, one spot and one song. Brown performed Demi Lovato’s ‘Warrior,” putting her own stamp on it and showcasing the range of talent that got her to this point. Plake performed “Love Runs Out” by OneRepublic, with some creativity that many felt was lacking from his performance Monday. Larson performed “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, and his impressive vocals were enough to earn those coveted tweets. Jesse advanced to the finale, keeping Team Adam’s hopes alive and eliminating Team Gwen in one fell swoop. So the field is set. The top four artists will compete in next week’s The Voice finale. What did you think of The Voice results? Did America get it right?

Jimmy Kimmel Breaks Down Over Son’s Heart Surgery

Jimmy Kimmel better be careful. He'll soon be known more for making us cry than making us laugh. A couple weeks ago, the talk show host paid emotional tribute to one of his heroes, Don Rickles, shortly after the comedian passed away. Then, on Monday night, Kimmel once again let the tears openly flow upon discussing something even more difficult and personal: open heart surgery his newborn son had to undergo just hours after entering the world. “He appeared a normal healthy baby,” Kimmel told his audience at first about little Billy, who was born on April 21. About three hours later, however, after Billy had met his two-year old sister Jane… “My wife was in bed relaxing, a very attentive nurse at Cedars-Sinai heard a murmur in his heart and noticed he was a bit purple, which is not common. “[Nurses] determined he wasn’t getting enough oxygen in his blood, either in his heart or lungs … It’s a terrifying thing, you know my wife is back in the recovery room, she has no idea what’s going on.” From there, a heart surgeon explained to Kimmel and his wife, Molly, that their second child was born with a congenital heart disease and that there was a “hole in the wall of the left and right side of his heart.” Kimmel holds little back in detailing how frightening this was to learn. Fortunately, however, the story had a happy ending. Billy underwent a successful procedure and, although he'll require another one in just a few months, the prognosis is positive. Kimmel then showed his fans a photo of Billy with many tubes in him, followed by one of the brave little guy smiling and doing just fine, post-surgery: “Poor kid, not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face,” the host quipped. Six days after he was born, Billy was able to leave the hospital and go home with his parents. Watch the video below to see Kimmel thank the doctors, his friends (and even Matt Damon!) and, especially, his wife. “Most of all, I want to thank my wife Molly. First of all, for allowing me to have sex with her in the first place. “But also for being so strong and level-headed and positive and loving during the worst nightmare a new mother could experience. I couldn’t ask for a better partner and I’m so happy we had this baby together. “I’m definitely getting a vasectomy after this.” Okay. Now we're laughing AND crying…

The Voice Recap: Who Will Make Final 10?

The Voice continued with another solid performance show that proved most of the people still in the competition deserved their spot.  The top 11 took to the stage to try and get the competitive edge to advance into the top 10. Let’s run down the 11 performances.  Stephanie Rice Stephanie has struggled to move out of her vocal range to show audiences she can change things up. She successfully managed to do just that with “Behind Blue Eyes” by The Who.  It was a surprisingly good performance and gave me hope that Stephanie would be able to make to the finals.  Aliyah Moulden Aliyah’s performance of “Take it Back” by Reba McEntire was, like, the worst performance of the season. No, seriously, she screamed her way through it.  It was a surprisingly horrid rendition of a classic song. Screaming through songs is not the way to go, and Blake should have known better.  TSoul TSoul can do no wrong. Every single week, he gets given a song and makes it his own. “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith is a difficult song to sing, but there was something about it that felt so original.  The performance faltered when he left the piano, but it was still a cut above some of the others.  Lilli Passero Lilli went with “Town Without Pity” by Gene Pitney. It was up there as one of her best. It was perfect. There was nothing to fault with it.  She made the song her own, and that’s what artist should be doing at this stage of the competition.  Hunter Plake Hunter went with “All I Want” by Kodaline. Despite some hiccups, it was a solid number that showed just how far he has come since his days struggling to emerge as a strong competitor.  Gwen said she let him make his own decisions and I think she should continue to do so.  Vanessa Ferguson Vanessa went with “Diamonds” by Rihanna, and I immediately rolled my eyes. I’m so over chart music being used on competition series.  However, the performance blew me away. Vanessa has been all over the place with her performances of late, but she’s trying to be a better performer.  Lauren Duski Lauren went with “Somewhere In My Broken Heart” by Billy Dean. It was amazing. She brought her A game and proved the naysayers wrong.  She hit every note flawlessly, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming for her next.  Mark Isaiah Mark is struggling to change things up, and it’s proving that he has a very limited vocal range. Singing “How to Love” by Lil Wayne should have been his time to shine.  Instead, it was the same one-note route he has traveled before.  Jesse Larson Jesse’s performance of “Human” by Rag’n’Bone Man was music to my ears. Despite a weak opening, he pulled it together pretty quickly.  More performances like this and he may just win the season.  Brennley Brown Brennley went with “River” by Joni Mitchell. It was yet another solid performance from the youngster.  All of the notes were on point, and it sounded like a performance you would hear on finale night. Yes, she’s that good.  Chris Blue Chris Blue went with “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge. It was a solid performance from him. He’s become a reliable performer over the course of the season.  It should be enough to save him for another few weeks.  View Slideshow: Reality TV Star Salaries: Who Makes the Most?

The Voice Recap: Battling for a Spot

After the very long Blind Auditions stage of this veteran NBC reality series, it was time for the singers to go head-to-head on Monday night to come out as the best of the rest.  Who never made much of an impact at this stage of the competition? Who sang higher than the rest? It’s time to run down the latest episode of this NBC smash… Brennley Brown vs. Lauren Duski Blake Shelton’s Country singers went head-to-head and sang “Better Man” by Little Big Town. The interesting thing about this performance was that it was a tough decision to decide which one of them should be saved.  Their vocals were excellent. It was most definitely not the easiest decision, but Blake decided to keep Lauren Duski. Unfortunately for Brennley Brown, Gwen Stefani wanted to take on some cast-offs from her boyfriend’s team.  JChosen vs. Kenny P Remember how we were ecstatic about the addition of JChosen a few weeks back? It turns out, we were right. Battling Kenny P for supremacy as they sang “I Was Made to Love You” by Stevie Wonder was the best way to benchmark the two voices.  JChosen emerged as the winner, but that was obviously going to happen from the get-go. His personality, voice and sheer determination helped him eke out the victory.  As expected, JChosen advanced to the next stage. Kenny P’s voice was no match, and there was no steal. That meant it was the end of the line for Kenny P.  Anatalia  Villaranda vs. Missy Robinson Do you ever feel like producers pick songs that will benefit who they want to make it further into the competition? Anatalia and Missy performed “Tightrope” by Janelle Monae, but only Anatalia seemed to know the song.  Missy’s performance was just all over the place, and it was sad considering how well she performed at her audition. Alicia was put in a tough spot and ultimately stuck with Anatalia.  Missy was eliminated and sent home.  Gaby Borromeo and Mark Isaiah Gaby and Mark battled to “Pillowtalk” by Zayn Malik, and it was surprisingly very close. It seemed like a song made for Mark, but it was so much more than that. It was interesting to watch them both go at it to try and stay in the game. Sadly, Adam seemed to think Mark was the clear winner here and kept Mark in the process.  Gaby was sent packing, and we actually felt bad for her. She deserved so much better. She would have been better suited with the likes of Alicia.  Felicia Temple vs. Quizz Swanigan “Titanium” by David Guetta is not the best song to sing during a competition, but Alicia did not seem to get the memo. It was blatantly obvious Alicia kept Quizz because he’s known as the youngest contestant in the competition.  Quizz is good, but it seemed like Alicia never really thought it through. Thankfully, Felicia found a place on Team Blake, so we’re happy about that.  Ashley Levin vs. Casi Joy The show saved the best performance for last, with both women going head-to-head with a rendition of “How Blue by Reba McEntire. Pitting the two women against each other was always going to be difficult when you consider just how AMAZING they both sound.  The performance was something you would expect from finale night. It really had everything, but Blake could only keep one of the women. He kept Casi Joy.  But that resulted in some sort of bidding war between the other three coaches. Alicia took the win and added one of the most promising contestants to her team.  That’s a wrap on Part 1 of the Battle Rounds. What did you think of the decisions? Hit the comments! The Voice Results: Who Made the Top 11?

Following last week’s live playoffs bloodbath on The Voice, when 12 of the final 24 singers went home, only one got the chop Tuesday. As the competition – as renowned for its bizarre format changes as its talented crop of stars – hits the stretch run, who would survive? After Monday’s always-impressive live performances, the top 12 contestants on Season 10 of The Voice faced elimination last night. For the first time in this cycle, the results Tuesday were determined solely by viewers’ votes and iTunes downloads. No mentors’ help. Coaches Christina Aguilera, Pharrell, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton could only sit, watch, encourage and hope America got it right. Tuesday also saw the return of the Insta-save, in which the bottom two artists sang live, and viewers could vote on Twitter in real time. Heading in, it appeared that Daniel, Emily and Bryan could be at risk for being relegated to the bottom three among the final dozen. Were they? Let’s break down The Voice results … The first artists voted through to the Top 11 were Team Christina’s Alisan Porter and Team Blake’s Adam Wakefield, who killed it Monday. Team Christina’s Bryan Bautista then made it through, along with Team Pharrell’s Daniel Passino, his coach’s major comeback artist. Team Blake’s Paxton Ingram got the nod, and was soon joined by Team Adam’s Shalyah Fearing, the youngest artist left in the hunt. Adam’s protege Laith Al-Saadi then made it through, as did Team Pharrell’s duo of Hannah Huston and Team Christina’s Nick Hagelin. Finally, Team Blake’s classic country artist Mary Sarah advanced, leaving Team Pharrell’s Emily Keener and Team Adam’s Owen Danoff. Those two proceeded to sing for their lives. Keener was  first, singing “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” by Willie Nelson, accompanying herself on guitar and playing to her strengths. Danoff, also on his guitar, followed with “Lego House” by Ed Sheeran, which was also in his comfort zone, and it showed. He survived. Emily Keener has been eliminated. What did you think of The Voice results tonight? Did America get it right? Who do you think will take it all the way to the finals this year?

The Voice Results: Who Made the Final Nine?

Following Monday’s Top 10 performances , millions of viewer votes and the always dramatic Instant Save, The Voice is down to its final nine. Like the previous two weeks, only one singer bid farewell Tuesday. Next week the field will not be so lucky when FIVE will go home at once. It was no surprise that Korin Bukowski of Team Gwen, having already survived a pair of Instant Save rounds, would need to do so yet again. In the Bottom Two along with her was Braiden Sunshine, whose effort Monday night also failed to gain enough traction on iTunes afterward. Viewer votes are multiplied after a certain iTunes threshold, so in a way, the proof was in the pudding for Korin. Would she survive Tuesday? She belted out Colbie Caillat’s “Try” in her own valiant try for one last chance, while Sunshine performed Maroon 5’s “Harder To Breathe.” Bukowski forgot some lyrics, which could not have helped her chances, and Braiden Sunshine earned a spot in the final nine of Season 9. Adam Levine’s Jordan Smith, Amy Vachal and Shelby Brown, and Blake Shelton’s Emily Ann Roberts, Barret Baber, and Zach Seabaugh advanced. Pharrell Williams is still down to just Madi Davis, while Stefani is left with Jeffery Austin and Sunshine heading into next week’s HUGE event. Who among these nine will make the final four? What do you think? Did America get it right with The Voice results for the Season 9 top 10? Or should Korin still be out there battling?

June Shannon and Sugar Bear: Who Cheated with Whom?

As previously confirmed, June Shannon and Sugar Bear are headed to Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars . And, by the sound of things, the couple is in dire need of it. In a revealing interview with toofab, the reality stars open up about their recent relationship struggles, with both sides acknowledging that the Bear cheated on his long-time love. “My biggest issues was my cheating,” explains Sugar Bear . “I’ve done that and shouldn’t have and I look back on it, I regret it and I wanted to go to Marriage Boot Camp and get the help that I need.” Initial reports alleged that Sugar Bear was simply caught surfing dating websites. But it has now been confirmed that he did far more with someone far closer to June than some random woman on the Internet. “It was really hurtful because one of it was a good friend of ours that we’ve known for quite some time,” confessed June, explaining how Honey Boo Boo’s father had an affair with a co-worker’s wife.  Shannon understandably reacted to the news with anger and sadness at first . But now it sounds like she’s trying to educate her overweight lover. “I told him, a lot of times, people aren’t liking you for Mike Thompson, they’re liking you because, Sugar Bear, you’re Honey Boo Boo’s dad,” June says. “You gotta realize who’s really there for you, and who’s a fanatic and just wants to say ‘Oh my god, I slept with Sugar Bear.” We’d really like to meet the person who would take pride in saying that… and/or we never want to meet the person who would take pride in saying that. While there’s plenty for fans to see between Shannon and Sugar Bear on the WE tv series when it kicks off on December 4, the couple did give an update on their current status. “We are still living separate. We see each other on the weekend and there’s some things he still needs to work on,” June says. “The trust is still not there 100%. I still tell him, in the house you have to be honest no matter what the consequences are.”  View Slideshow: 25 Celebrities Who Are Known Cheaters
