TV Bites: Katie Couric Rejects Larry King’s Leftovers

Weekend Receipts: Toy Is Tops Again

Perhaps it’s just my bleeding-heart, Catholic nature, but I tend to feel at least a pang of sympathy for even the most despicable of subjects. So I actually feel a bit bad for both Grown-Ups and Knight and Day . I mean, sure, they’re both lazy variations of genre films that already have been ground into dull, formulaic powder, but you have to feel just a smidge bad that they brought their already-crappy game against the dynamic, heartfelt Toy Story 3 , surely one of the best movies of the year. And once again, it was Toy Story 3 that ruled the box office roost, while Adam Sandler and company pulled in a respectable second place, and Tom Cruise thanked the floating celestial ghost of L. Ron Hubbard that he didn’t completely eat it at third. Grab your commemorative Knight and Day travel pillow and click on for the hard numbers.

Farting Man-Boy, Elaborate Serial Killer and Bono Among New Oscar Voters

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — a group so white, old and out-of-touch you’d think you’re at a Republican convention — has decided perhaps more people would watch their dog and pony show if their choices were a little more hip. In an effort to pump fresh plasma into their dusty veins, the AMPAS has inducted a whole slew of new Academy members. Among the rarefied few are Adam Sandler, Christoph Waltz, Tobin Bell of Saw infamy, along with some much needed non-white, non-male voices like Mo’Nique, Zoe Saldana and Gabourey Sidibe. On the other side of the camera, noted-Miley Cyrus despoiler Adam Shankman is on the list, as are Bono and The Edge, and Christian Bale’s favorite cinematographer , Shane “f*cking distracting!” Hurlbut. Check out the full 135-person list after the jump.

Twilight Has Accepted Many Friend Requests

According to Facebook , the only social network that is clearly acceptable for scientific studies such as these, the Twilight fan page now has approximately 6.665 million fans, more fans than pages for Harry Potter , Transformers , and Toy Story combined. True to its book roots though, you can only become a fan after spending at least four hours staring goo-goo eyed at it and then swearing you’ll totally get married to it after clicking “Like.” [ Deadline ]

5 Reasons Why Tonight’s Season Finale of Party Down Should Be Its Last

The admirable selflessness of Lizzy Caplan aside, the second season finale of Party Down — airing tonight on Starz, but already available via Netflix Instant Watch — could very well be its last episode. Even if Starz’s were to pick up Party Down for a third season, how would the show work when Adam Scott — the ostensible lead — can only appear in three of the likely 10 episodes because of his new job on Parks and Recreation ? That’s like having Dexter appear on his eponymous show 30 percent of the time. So, yes: This could be the last episode ever. And guess what? That’s probably a good thing. To get you revved up for the season finale, here are five reasons why this should be the end of Party Down .

Potty-Mouthed Shrek Toy Just Latest Sign That Franchise Is Over

Despite a relatively healthy $223 million box-office take to date and some unflagging critical support , most of popular culture is just fine seeing the Shrek franchise wind to a close.
