Fox Head Predicts Low Ratings for Conan

Why did Fox executives pass on their chance to scoop up Conan O’B rien? According to Fox head Kevin Relly, O’B rien’s TBS debut will probably earn ratings with a “decimal on the left side of the number,” and on Fox, “there would have been an enormous amount of pressure to see the decimal on the right side.” Around the time that NBC started O’B rien’s booting process, he was drawing less than a 2.0 rating in the key demo, but as THR notes, even a cable hit like The Daily Show can only manage a .8. MPAA Officially Delivers ‘R’ Rating For The Expendables

The last few weeks have seen a bit of back and forth about how Lionsgate would release The Expendables ; to hear producer Avi Lerner tell it , test audiences would have at least some influence on the rating depending on their reactions to PG-13- and R-rated cuts. But more evidence emerged today that the film will arrive in the theaters the way Sylvester Stallone intended. And I think we all know what he intended.

BREAKING: Robert Pattinson is Upset About This Headline

Look — I couldn’t agree more with Dixon’s comments here the other day about sympathizing with Robert Pattinson . I like what little of the guy I’ve seen onscreen and in person , and I wouldn’t wish ill on anyone just because they’re famous or complicit in New Moon or whatever. And I get his and Kristen Stewart’s frustration with the media machine that preys on their their every moody misstep. But to the extent I’m complicit in this very item, it might be as close to mutually assured destruction as contemporary culture gets. Someone needs an intervention.

Newsweek’s Hayes Hater Gets a Promotion

After Newsweek’s Ramin Setoodeh slammed several openly gay actors — and earned stinging rebukes from Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes — some called for the newsmagazine to fire the writer. Instead, he’s gotten the equivalent of a promotion: Setoodeh will leave the struggling Newsweek to become a senior writer on People’s news and human-interest team, it was announced today. Yes, that’s in addition to the offer extended to Setoodeh to visit the Glee set and, uh, “learn about diversity.” Some self-hating gays have all the luck! [ NY Observer ]

Muppet Enthusiast to Battle Piracy

While President Obama studies game film to restructure his strategy regarding the oil spill, V.P. and Muppet buddy Joe Biden today went before cameras to announce the adminstration’s crackdown on… piracy. “To state it very bluntly, piracy hurts,” Biden said at the White House announcement, with attorney general Eric Holder by his side. “It hurts our economy, our health and our safety.” And, conveniently, it’s not a mile below the Gulf of Mexico. For his part, Holder is reorganizing the entire Justice Department for the crusade, creating “a task force, as well as hiring 15 new Assistant U.S. Attorneys and 20 FBI special agents dedicated to combating domestic and international IP property crimes.” Awesome! Next up: Re-hiring the Department of the Interior . [
