Befuddled Bill Press Wants to Go Back to the Clinton Era Tax Cuts That Were Actually Tax Increases

Bill Press appeared on Fox News' Geraldo At Large, on Sunday night, as part of a discussion about whether the Bush era tax cuts would be extended and the former CNN host couldn't get his story straight as he recommended that Congress go back to the Bill Clinton era “tax cuts.” In fact Clinton, back in 1993, passed the largest tax increase in history but this bit of truth

Bill Press: On Election Night Boehner Office Will Be ‘Morgue,’ Pelosi’s A ‘Party’

Gallup might be seeing an historic spread in the Republicans’ favor, and even Mark Halperin is predicting GOP gains of as many as 60 seats. But amidst all the Dem panic and gnashing of teeth, the Pelosi party can still count on one true believer: Bill Press. Former California Dem chairman Press has predicted that when results come in on Election Night, GOP leader John Boehner’s office will be a “morgue,” while Pelosi’s place while Pelosi’s place is “where the party’s going to be.” Press proferred his hyper-optimistic prediction on this evening’s Ed Show, reacting to the report that Ohio talk radio host Bill Cunningham will be broadcasting from Boehner’s office on Election Night.  For good measure, Press—ironically no fan of the First Amendment, apparently—expressed disappointment that it was legal for Cunningham to do so. Let’s make sure Press’s prediction is duly noted.  See you on November 2nd, Bill. ED SCHULTZ: Bill Cunningham, radio talk show host out of Ohio, who’s a severe righty, is saying that he is going to be broadcasting from The Tan Man’s–John Boehner’s–office on Election Night. BILL PRESS: Well first of all, I checked. It is legal , in the House, for members can allow broadcasters to broadcast from their offices, I’m sorry, I’m sorry to say . . . But I’ve got to tell you, Ed, so it’s legal to be there, but if I were Bill Cunningham I’d stay home. Because once the results come in, it’s going to be like a morgue in Boehner’s office. You and I, you and I ought to broadcast, Ed, you and I ought to broadcast from Nancy Pelosi’s balcony.  That’s where the party’s going to be. Check the mirthful reaction of GOP strategist John Feehery. Even Ed had to chuckle at Press’s prediction.

Howard Kurtz Smacks Down Bill Press for Comparing Glenn Beck to Al Qaeda

Howard Kurtz on Sunday smacked down liberal talk radio host Bill Press for saying the Park Service allowing Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” event at the Lincoln Memorial was like “granting al Qaeda permission to hold a rally on September 11th at Ground Zero.” Towards the end of the opening segment of CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” Kurtz surprisingly brought up last Friday’s disgraceful editing job by ABC’s “Good Morning America” that Beck himself said was like something Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels would have done. When finished with this admonishment, Kurtz went right after Press who was seated directly in front of him (transcript follows with commentary, video pending):  HOWARD KURTZ, HOST: All right. I want to talk about that, but first I want to play this clip that we didn’t have earlier. This is the “Good Morning America” piece that Beck specifically criticized. Let’s take a quick look at it. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) BECK: Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King. (END VIDEO CLIP) (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Glenn Beck is no Martin Luther King. (END VIDEO CLIP) KURTZ: Here’s what Beck actually said: “Whites don’t own the founding fathers. Whites don’t own Abraham Lincoln. Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King.” Was that deceptively edited? JANE HALL, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, AMERICAN UNIVERSITY’S SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION: Well, I think that it should have had the context. I mean, you cannot accuse one side of not including context and not including the context — KURTZ: Somebody makes a statement involving both races — HALL: If somebody says two things, you’ve got to say two things. KURTZ: — and you just show one, I think that was deceptive. I applaud Kurtz for bringing this up. However, maybe he could have put a finer point on this issue if he reminded his guests and viewers of the recent furor involving the editing of former USDA official Shirley Sherrod’s NAACP speech. After all, what ABC and Shipman did Friday was actually far more reprehensible as it was intentionally done and aired on national television. By contrast, Andrew Breitbart wasn’t the person who did the editing of the Sherrod video which was posted at a website reaching far fewer viewers than “Good Morning America.” But Kurtz wasn’t finished, for he next set his sights on Press for what the liberal talker  said and wrote  in June:   KURTZ: You, Bill Press, said that for the Park Service to allow this rally was like “granting al Qaeda permission to hold a rally on September 11th at Ground Zero,” Isn’t that way over the top? BILL PRESS, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: I think the rally was a stick in the eye to any — KURTZ: I don’t know. But answer my question. You wrote a book about toxic talk. PRESS: No, I said it and I’ll stand by it because — KURTZ: You’re invoking a terrorist analogy for a talk show host. Why is that not over the top? PRESS: No, what I’m comparing are sacred places. We have very few of them in this country. To me, the Lincoln Memorial I think for all Americans is one of our sacred places. Again, it should not be politicized, in my opinion, at Ground Zero. KURTZ: I’m talking about your language, your language in bringing al Qaeda into it. Why is that appropriate? PRESS: I think it is just as outrageous to have the people who offended — I mean, who carried those attacks out at Ground Zero on 9/11, to give them that sacred site, to give a political huckster the Lincoln Memorial, yes. (CROSSTALK) HALL: I think it points to the dilemma, because the left hasn’t known how to respond. And so now we are getting more response from the people. MATT LEWIS, BLOGGER: But this is the toxicity of politics in our nation, where good folks like Bill, who are liberal, believe the conservatives, their political adversaries, not enemies, are worse than terrorists. KURTZ: I’ve got to go, but let me ask you before we — PRESS: That is not true, by the way. KURTZ: All right. Denial registered. Nice job, Howie. We on the right would love to see you tear into hypocritical liberals far more often.

Bill Press Mocks Southern Senator with Banjo Music; Suggests ‘Taking Citizenship Away from People Born in Alabama’

Ah yes – liberalism, or as its recent branding has labeled it, progressivism, is the most open-minded and culturally sensitive place to be on the ideological spectrum. Those who subscribe to those beliefs are far more enlightened and far more able to respect those from all over the globe, or least all over the United States, right? Not the case with liberal talk show host Bill Press. On his Aug. 4 program, Press launched into a long-winded rant about a handful of U.S. Senators who question the interpretation of the 14 th Amendment , which allows for so-called “anchor babies” to provide a way for some illegal immigrants to achieve legal status, despite having broken the law by entering the United States. Press took issue with Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, who suggested the 14 th Amendment is being abused and wasn’t what was intended by the original authors of it. But he didn’t just disagree with him for his stance. Instead, he took to mocking his southern accent, playing to a stereotype of people from the South. “You know the only thing we’re missing with that are the banjos, you know,” Press said. “I mean – yeah, Jeff Sessions. I mean give me a freaking break. [ In faux southern accent with banjo music playing ] You know our founding fathers didn’t know them jet skis – they got them jet skis in Tijuana. They do, they just zip up the coast and have their baby on the beach in La Hoya, La Joya, La Jolla and then they back to Tijuana with a little baby American. God darn if Thomas Jefferson had only know’d that we would have been different.” Press went on to show his audacity was boundless and called critics of the way the 14 th Amendment has been used as “mean-spirited.” Press framed the entire debate in a manner that made it seem like legislators were taking their concerns over illegal immigration out on children. “Where do we get these people from?” Press continued. “You know, unfreaking believable. Look this is such a stupid thing. Number one, it’s just – look, it’s so mean-spirited, right? Yeah, OK – we’re going to take it out on the kids. Yeah, we’re going to get even with those illegal immigrants. We’re going to get even with anybody that came here to try to improve their life and do better for their family. Yeah, we’re going to take it out on their kids and throw those little buggers back across the boarder.” But he didn’t stop there with the mocking Sessions. Later in his broadcast, Press launched into another anti-Sessions screed with the same theatrics. [ With faux southern accent with banjo music playing ] “Ah yeah, did Thomas Jefferson know ‘bout dem UFOs?” Press said. “Man, those aliens coming here from outer space, popping out a baby and then hopping in their spaceship and goin’ home. What’s this world coming to? I’m tellin’ ya, if James Madison know’d that he would’ve done different.” And to end his bizarre high-minded, left-of-center condescending anti-Alabama rant, this wizard of smart suggested maybe we should revoke citizenship from Alabamians. “You know, how about we just take citizenship away from people born in Alabama ?” Press said. “That’d be a good start. Just kidding, Alabamans – well, yeah maybe [laughter]. Alright, there we go, yes indeed.” One can only ask what is next for Press. Will he mock someone of another ethnicity which he disagrees with a stereotype? It is hard to imagine a conservative talker pulling such a feat off without some sort of pushback from Press and his ilk.

Eleanor Clift: Obama’s Poll Numbers Down Because He Hasn’t Blamed Bush Enough

After the release of a number of polls Tuesday showing President Obama’s favorability rating plummeting, his minions in the media were out in force trying to blame the slide on something or someone else. Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift, ever the dutiful shill always at a Democrat’s service when the chips are down,  took a predictably absurd tack: Obama hasn’t blamed George W. Bush enough for all that ails the nation. “Obama hasn’t done as good a job as Reagan of blaming his predecessor,” wrote Clift after sharing some of Obama’s dismal poll numbers. For our sins Clift elaborated: Jimmy Carter for years served as the GOP’s version of Herbert Hoover while Obama let George W. Bush slip away into the ether, a former president so invisible that he might as well be in a witness-protection program. Bush’s upcoming book,  Decision Points,  won’t be released until a week after the November election, reinforcing the GOP’s decision to keep the unpopular president out of the mix in the midterms.  Readers are reminded that another Democrat media shill Bill Press told his radio listeners Tuesday that Obama’s declining poll numbers were due to Americans being spoiled, impatient children.  What do we learn from this? That no matter what the current president does, and no matter what happens to the economy, in Iraq, in the Gulf of Mexico, or anywhere on the planet, Obama has media minions that will quickly be out in force trying to deflect blame from him without regard to facts or reason. After all, as it pertains to Clift’s argument, there likely hasn’t been an administration in history that has spent more time blaming the country’s problems on the previous president. To suggest otherwise is what Hillary Clinton would say requires a willing suspension of disbelief. But Clift knows her role, and she plays it well. Of course, the magazine she writes for is in terrible financial condition desperately looking for a suitor to save it from extinction, but that’s beside the point. Despite the inanity in her position, Clift must be given an “A” for tossing such nonsense at her readers with a clear conscience and a straight face. That is certainly something she can always be counted on for.

Bill Press: Obama’s Poll Numbers Down Because Americans Are Spoiled Children

Liberal talk radio host Bill Press says President Obama’s poll numbers are down because Americans are spoiled, impatient children that want everything solved yesterday. After describing to his listeners Tuesday all the fabulous accomplishments this president has made since taking office in January 2009, Press admonished the citizenry for giving the White House resident poor grades for his efforts. “I think this says more about the American people than it does about President Obama,” barked Press. “I think it just shows once again that the American people are spoiled” (audio follows with partial transcript and commentary): BILL PRESS: Basically, spoiled — as a people, we are too critical. We are too quick to rush to judgment, we are too negative, we are too impatient. Especially impatient. We want it all solved yesterday, and if you don’t, I don’t care who you are — get out of the way. And again, basically spoiled. To the point where it makes me wonder if it’s even possible to govern today. I gotta tell you, I don’t think Abraham Lincoln — who certainly didn’t get everything right the first time — could govern today. I’m not sure Franklin Roosevelt could govern today, the way we are again. Just about like spoiled children. And it’s Americans, and it’s the media, and if we don’t get instant gratification, then screw you is basically our attitude. Yes, America, you’re spoiled. We promised that if you elected us, things would get better for you. When you bought into our “Hope and Change” pitch, the unemployment rate was 6.6 percent. Now it’s 9.5 percent. On Election Day 2008, 7.3 million Americans were out of work. Now it’s 14.6 million. And the fact that this makes you unhappy means you’re spoiled and impatient. As Brian Maloney wrote Tuesday, “[O]nly ultra-partisan Democratic Party crony Bill Press could manage to blame voters for Obama’s failure to thrive.”
