Zach Galifianakis Breaks Down MTV Movie Awards’ Breakout-Star Rivals

‘Hangover’ funnyman selflessly chooses ‘Precious’ star Gabourey Sidibe to take it home: ‘This woman should win it.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Zach Galifianakis Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Zach Galifianakis was everywhere in 2009. There was his breakout turn as a loveable bearded doofus in “The Hangover,” his co-starring role as a loveable bearded doofus in HBO’s “Bored to Death” and all manner of Web vids and big-screen cameos as a … well, you get the idea. In that inimitable deadpan manner of his, Galifianakis professes to be utterly sick of himself. He’s in the minority. Fans have voted him into the category of Best Breakout Star at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. And while the voting is still going on over at MovieAwards.MTV.com , Galifianakis assessed his competitors and came away convinced another star would walk away with the win this Sunday. He called “Up in the Air” actress Anna Kendrick “good,” while Chris Pine of “Star Trek” was dubbed a “handsome man.” Of Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”), Galifianakis said with a devilish grin, “I haven’t seen that movie, but she and I have the same trainer.” Nor had Zach checked out the “The Blind Side,” though he wished Quinton Aaron “good luck” in the Breakout Star category. Which brought Galifianakis back to Sidibe. “This woman should win it,” he declared. Not that he’ll be there to take in the festivities at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. “When is it?” he asked us at one point. Sunday, June 6, Zach. “Oooh boy,” he responded. What, you have somewhere better to be? “You know what? I can’t,” he confessed. “I have a palm reading that day.” Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. MTV Movie Awards Host Aziz Ansari Gets Advice From Russell Brand, Sarah Jessica Parker, Snooki

Judd Apatow, past Movie Awards host Andy Samberg also give tips — show airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It might be the biggest night of his life. On Sunday, June 6, at exactly 9 p.m. ET, 27-year-old Aziz Ansari will walk out onto the stage at the Gibson Amphitheatre to host the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . The seats will be filled with Hollywood’s elite, celebs will be frittering to and fro backstage as they await their various show duties, and millions of fans will be watching at home. In short, the pressure will be on … But it’s a job Aziz is ready for. From his co-starring spot on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” to his improv work on MTV’s “Human Giant” to his creation of bombastic comedian Raaaaaaaandy, one thing Ansari can be trusted to do is make people laugh, and then laugh some more. Still, the guy has got to be sweating a bit as the big day approaches. But luckily he’s got the support of Hollywood behind him, and the likes of Russell Brand, Sarah Jessica Parker and “Jersey Shore” star Snooki weighed in with advice for Ansari. “Hosting — it’s so hard!” said two-time VMA host Brand , not so much offering advice as a stern warning. “You’re there for ages. It’s all the panic, the dress rehearsals, people don’t turn up. It’s difficult.” Parker, conversely, had one helpful tip for Aziz’s body and mind. “I would say have plenty of fluids backstage, perhaps intravenously!” she said. “Jersey Shore” star Snooki — who will be MTV News’ guest correspondent on the Movie Awards red carpet Sunday — had one specific suggestion for the type of fluid Ansari would be wise to imbibe come Sunday night. “Just have a couple shots before you get on,” she said. “You’re probably going to be very nervous in front of all these celebrities, millions of people on TV. Pretty much, just down a bottle of tequila and you’re good. It washes off the nerves!” One man who’s quite familiar with those Movie Awards nerves is Andy Samberg, who hosted the show last year and was not worried about Ansari. “I don’t need to give Aziz any advice,” Samberg said. “He’s great. I think he’s gonna kill it. He’s a friend of mine and one of the funniest dudes I know. I’m really excited just to see it.” Another of the funniest dudes in Hollywood, Judd Apatow, couldn’t let Aziz assume hosting duties without giving him a good-natured ribbing. “He’s a cocky young man,” Apatow said of Ansari. “He’s not afraid. He should be afraid!” Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. News Laws Are Death to Cats in Australia – Suburban Cats to Be Legally Trapped & Euthanized Under New Local Cat Laws

Cat ownership in WA is under siege by local cat laws newly introduced by the Shire of Swan and soon to be implemented by the City of Joondalup. Cat owners will be penalized by fines if their cat unwittingly trespasses onto a neighbors property without their permission. The ultimate penalty is the trapping of your beloved moggy by a neighbor in a trap supplied by the shire and the impoundment and possible euthanization of your cat if you can’t locate it within 7 days. Location map of City of Joondalup, Western Aus… The legal trapping of cats opened up by these new local cat laws will only encourage vigilantes who hate cats to have an ‘open season’ on cats in their neighborhood. The Cat Haven, a well known Perth based cat rescue group have already reported incidences of cats caught in traps being drowned in lakes. A horrible death for any animal with no chance of escape and astonishingly still a set of laws introduced in such poor format by local councils that policing these laws is almost impossible. Very little forethought went into the ultimate outcomes that these laws would fester, if councils honestly thought that residents of their shire would act responsibly under these new laws they have already been witness to the folly of their naivety. With cats being drowned in traps and my own experience of having my cat Simon being trapped by a neighbor in my own street and taken to the pound with no consultation with the shire. I managed to rescue my cat Simon on Day 6, it was clearly a lucky day for him will your cat be so lucky? Parts of these laws have validation with responsible cat ownership including limiting the number of cats per household, sterilizing cats, micro-chipping or identifying your cat with a collar & identification tag and keeping your cat indoors from the hours of 9pm to 6 am is also very doable. What these laws fail to take into consideration is the intrinsic nature of cats and the impossibility of cat owners to always control some of their inherit behaviors which have allowed cats to survive well prior to their domestication. Cats are highly independent creatures who value their freedom, they have instinctual drives to patrol their territory and to chase off any intruders entering their territory. Cats have very strong maternal instincts and are predatory in nature and mark their territory with their scent to keep any other animals out of their area. Cats rely on these instincts to get through life and expecting them to change these behaviors is literally asking them to stop being a cat. Cats cannot be trained like the dog species and forcing cat owners to achieve the impossible by preventing their cats from occasionally wandering into a neighbors yard is simply ludicrous! The harsh penalty of trapping cats, impounding them and having your cat euthanized as a result is a sickening and heart breaking reality now for cat owners and their families. That this type of action is being implemented by your local shire and your neighbors is just disgusting. You can protest against these new local cat laws by visiting www.aussiecats.com and having your say. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Joins Los Angeles City’s Boycott on Arizona

L.A. County supervisors join city's AZ boycott Tuesday, June 01, 2010 DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The L.A. County Board of Supervisors voted to join the city's economic boycott of Arizona over the new immigration law. The L.A. City Council already voted to boycott the state because of Arizona's new immigration law. Supervisors Gloria Molina and Zev Yaroslavsky say there is no question that America's immigration system is broken, but they believe Arizona's new law is a violation of American civil rights. Molina and Yaroslavsky introduced a motion asking Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona to repeal SB 1070. The motion also directs the county to review all investments in Arizona, such as state municipal bonds, and to suspend travel to Arizona for county business. The motion passed by a vote of 3 to 2. The Board of Supervisors willl also send a letter to President Barack Obama and Congress, asking them to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Supervisor Don Knabe said boycotting Arizona is a misguided reaction to a bad law, while Supervisor Mike Antonovich called the motion “stupid.” “It doesn't make sense, it doesn't follow the law,” Antonovich said. “All Arizona is doing is following federal law and that is also California state law.” Supervisor Knabe released a written statement saying he also wouldn't support the motion. “Los Angeles County is currently facing tremendous fiscal challenges with our own dysfunctional state government, which we are attempting to work through. This motion takes away from these efforts, and will distract from what we are elected to do for the residents of this county,” Knabe's statement read. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas was the deciding vote on the issue. The LAUSD Board of Education is also joining the list of those opposing Arizona's law. The board will consider on Tuesday a resolution condemning the law and curtailing economic support of Arizona, introduced by board president Monica Garcia. The resolution would urge students and their parents to be aware of the law, which authorizes Arizona police to question someone's immigration status when there is suspicion that the person may be in the state illegally. added by: EthicalVegan
