Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sequel Announced for 2016

Despite  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reviews that weren’t exactly glowing, movie goers came out in drives for a live-action version of this cartoon classic over the weekend. To the tune of a $65 million box office haul! In response, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies announced plans for today for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, with a release date of June 3, 2016.  “To know moviegoers are embracing the Turtles with such enthusiasm is everything that we and all our filmmakers have been hoping for,” said Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey. “We are thrilled with this weekend’s result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one.” Michael Bay will return to produce the sequel. This version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles featured Megan Fox in a lead role, which likely helps explain why it’s so popular. Said Adam Goodman, president of Paramount’s Film Group: “Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. “The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story.” 17 Hilarious and Inappropriate Movie Marquees 1. Make Up Your Mind! We would probably like to see this movie. Maybe. We think.

Reality TV: Bravo Says ‘Go’ To THREE New Attention Sloring Atlanta-Based Reality Shows

We love Atlanta, but tha A sure ain’t what it used to be… Bravo Greenlights 3 New Atlanta Reality Shows Via AJC Atlanta is already home to several reality shows: “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta,” “Auction Kings,” “Big Rich Atlanta,” to name a few. Bravo, home to “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” is acting all BET on us by setting up three more reality shows here, all variations on the same theme of rich women generating drama and conflict. One we already know about: it’s the continuation of Kim Zolciak’s life, post “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” She had a successful spinoff earlier this year about her wedding. She’s currently taping her second spinoff. (Her final appearance on “Real Housewives” is set for this Sunday.) Here’s the press release description of what you can expect from her series (working title” Don’t Be Tardy,”) which certainly would not surprise anyone who has been following her travails with her family. (Her dad last week called her a “pathological liar” and her mom filed a claim to try to see her grandkids.) Season two follows Kim and Kroy Biermann in the next phase of their marriage, which involves the demands of their ever-growing family, purchasing their dream house, and a possible adoption. The pressure is on as Kim tries to resolve extended family issues and manage the renovation of their house all while juggling being a loving mother, a caring wife and staying in the limelight. The other 2 shows will focus on the more “professional” side of the ATL. “Married to Medicine” follows a group of successful and educated women, including doctors and wives of doctors, who are connected to the world of medicine in Atlanta. Whether delivering babies in Louboutins or rushing off to galas in Buckhead, these women do everything with style, drama, and of course, southern flair. “Taking Atlanta” tracks the city’s next-generation movers and shakers as they make their mark in the glamorous arenas of fashion, music, hospitality and real estate while enjoying the city’s sizzling social scene and balancing the demands of their tumultuous family situations. At this time there is no word on the cast or air date. Are you still infatuated with the fawkery and goings-on in Atlanta or do these shows sound like the ultimate snooze-fest?? Republicans block Senate health aid bill for 9.11 workers

Republican senators blocked Democratic legislation on Thursday that sought to provide medical care to rescue workers and others who became ill as a result of breathing in toxic fumes, dust and smoke at the site of the World Trade Center attack in 2001. The 9/11 health bill, a version of which was approved by the House of Representatives in September, was among several initiatives that Senate Democrats had hoped to approve before the close of the 111th Congress. Supporters believe this was their last real opportunity to have the bill passed. The action by the Senate created huge uncertainty over the bill’s future. Its proponents were working on Thursday to salvage the legislation, with one possibility being to have it inserted into a large tax-cut bill that Republicans and Democrats are trying to pass before Congress ends its current session. Such a move seemed unlikely, since it might complicate passage of the tax package, which includes a provision that President Obama sought in return for backing the continuation of tax cuts for all income levels that Republicans wanted: an extension of unemployment benefits. In a vote largely along party lines, the Senate rejected a procedural move by Democrats to end debate on the 9/11 health bill and to bring it to a vote; 60 yes votes were needed, but the move received 57, with 42 votes against. Republicans have been raising concerns about how to pay for the $7.4 billion measure, while Democrats, led by Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand of New York, have argued that there was a moral obligation to assist those who put their lives at risk during rescue and cleanup operations at ground zero. The bill is formally known as the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, named after a New York police detective who participated in the rescue efforts at ground zero. He later developed breathing complications that were common to first responders at the site, and he died in January 2006. The cause of his death became a source of debate after the city’s medical examiner concluded that it was not directly related to the attacks. After the vote, Representative Carolyn B. Maloney of New York, a chief sponsor of the bill in the House, argued that Democrats should include the 9/11 health bill in the larger tax-cut legislation and, in the process, dare Republicans to oppose it in that context. Ms. Maloney added that the tax bill was the one piece of legislation that “Republicans won’t leave this town without passing.” As the day wore on, it appeared increasingly unlikely that the Senate would include a provision providing health care for ground zero workers in any tax package it brought to the floor, according to senior Capitol Hill officials. But supporters of the 9/11 legislation said there was a possibility they could persuade Democratic leaders in the House to include it in any tax-cut plan that the chamber approved and win Senate approval during negotiations over differences in measures passed by the two chambers. The Senate action was a blow to sponsors of the bill, who mobilized a network of allies across the political spectrum to lobby on its behalf, including the New York City police commissioner, Raymond W. Kelly, and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. Ms. Gillibrand, the chief sponsor in the Senate, even reached out to former President George W. Bush. But her aides say Mr. Bush did not respond to her entreaties. cont. added by: JanforGore

It’s Fat Tuesday!

Around the world Catholics are celebrating their last day before Lent which can only mean one thing: a giant party. Down in Brazil they call it Carnival, and Boston.com's Big Picture has an amazing photoset. New Orleans finally seems to have caught a break with their Super Bowl win and their new mayor, and they're certainly celebrating. From the Times-Picayune: For many New Orleanians, today’s festivities will mark the continuation of a party that began moments after the Saints 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV on Feb. 7. Indeed, just two days after the game, the team was celebrated in a parade that included floats from different krewes and which was broadcast live on national television. And on Sunday, Saints quarterback Drew Brees opened up this week’s festivities as the King of Bacchus. Anyone out there in New Orleans? Tell us about the party! added by: afitzgerald

The Only Thing Worse Than Valentine’s Day Is People Who Hate Valentine’s Day

Of all of capitalism’s high holidays, Valentine’s Day is definitely the worst, with its corporate-sponsored emphasis on love, couples, snuggling, and other disgusting things. The only thing worse? The people who empower it with emphatic hatred. That’s right, all you singleton’s and “black hearts” are just as responsible for the continuation of this wretched festival as all the happy couples cooing into each others’ earlobes after too many expensive oysters and too much cheap champagne. Sure, Valentine’s Day was created to sell candy, flowers, romantic dinners at overpriced restaurants, and frilly panties from Victoria Secret that will be forgotten about as soon as they are flung off an expectant toe into the dark corners of a bedroom. To get all English major-y for a second, it is a despicable propagation of the hetero-normative monogamy fallacy that plagues the world, telling everyone that they have a “soul mate” and one special person to complete them and anyone who isn’t in such a relationship is a worthless piece of shit who doesn’t deserve to be loved and probably dresses bad and needs more time in the gym. However, the reaction to these sentiments is just as knee-jerk and trite. Hating Valentine’s Day is a sad fucking cliche. On the outside its says, “I hate the corporate structure that built this shitty holiday” and “I’m doing fine on my own, thank you,” but what it says on the inside is, “I am so sick of not having the validation of someone in my life that I need to rebel against this thing or I am going to wither away like a dried toe nail clipping in the garbage.” These people think that they are going to do something to change the couple-centric world that we live in, but all that they’re doing is giving credence to it. It’s like scowling at the concept but sneaking handfuls of chalky conversation hearts while all their fellow black-wearers go to change The Smiths record. Just like every year, alternative Valentine’s Day options abound. Jonathan Ames is hosting an anti-romantic poetry reading in Brooklyn and The Village Pourhouse will try to set up single men and women at their black heart’s party. There are plenty of events for those without a mate to attend and weep with each other and talk about how disgusting and lonely they all are while bashing their seemingly happier counterparts. Still, we hate you just as much as those making kissy-face and gurgling about how much they love each other. Instead of getting their non-frilly panties all in a wad, maybe it’s time for the haters to just leave this whole mess to those who want to call 1-800-Flowers, order up a chocolate souffle for two, and give each other their thrice-annual dose of oral sex (along with both birthdays). What’s so wrong about expressing the love one has for his partner? It’s rare and wonderful to find someone to share one’s life with, and surviving the daily silent tug of war of a relationship shouldn’t go by unnoticed. The protesters don’t want it to end entirely either, because you know that the first single girl at the “Heartbreaker’s Club” dance party is going to be the one who wants the biggest bouquet once she finally has a man. For those of us who aren’t in a relationship, why don’t we take the night off? Let’s give it up to all those unlucky enough to have their egos eroded by the will of another in the search for romantic fulfillment. There’s no need for hatred, spite, or resistance. Just take a deep breath and relinquish the day with quiet superiority and calm abandonment—and masturbate yourself into a chafey coma. [ Image via A Heart a Day ]
