Black Swan Ballerina Says Natalie Portman Basically Didn’t Dance

I was almost positive we’d never have to talk about awful-ass Black Swan again, but here comes a kick-ass, scorned ballerina with a tale to tell: Sarah Lane, a 27-year-old American Ballet Theater soloist who worked as a body double on Black Swan , tells EW that there’s a “cover-up” to prevent people from knowing she performed 95% of the cygnet moves in the movie. Now, I can’t guarantee that Sarah isn’t wearing black wings and circling her house right now like a crazed Sean Young type, but her quotes sound legitimate.

SXSW Buzz Report: Pee Paparazzi Goes Viral, Joe Swanberg Inspires Walkouts

SXSW is a fest that caters to alterna-sensibilities, so it’s no surprise genre fare has done well thus far. Insidious scored high marks with the horror crowd, but The Kill List notched all-out raves from even mainstream press — though the Conan O’B rien documentary Conan O’B rien Can’t Stop contains enough rage and demon-exorcising to give both a run for their money. Meanwhile, Bellflower — a Sundance entry in the Emerging Visions sidebar — screens on Monday night, as does the Dance Dance Revolution thriller The FP . Yes, you read that right: a gang warfare film about Dance Dance Revolution. Don’t you wish you were in Austin?

Darren Aronofsky Calls Spirit Award Winner Black Swan ‘Fun,’ Defines Indie Film

Backstage at the Spirit Awards Saturday afternoon, Darren Aronofsky was in a jaunty mood. And why not? With Black Swan ‘s two biggest Oscar rivals, The Social Network and The King’s Speech , absent from competition at the penultimate awards show of the year ( TSN excluded by budget, TKS relegated to the foreign film category), the night belonged to Aronofsky’s stylish psychological ballet thriller. So after Black Swan took home Best Cinematography (Matthew Libatique), Best Actress (Natalie Portman), Best Director, and Best Feature, Aronofsky took to the winners’ room to have some fun with the press.
