With spring in the air on the East Coast — and a little bit of booze; it is St. Patrick’s Day after all — what better time to be reminded that the multiplex will soon be overflowing with summer blockbusters. Of all the studios shopping their wares, Disney seems the most excited to kick-off summertime, as they’ve begun a full court press for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides . Earlier this week, that meant the release of the Johnny Depp-centric character poster; now, it’s time for Penelope Cruz to get into the spotlight.

Justin Bieber ‘Never Say Never’ Ad To Air During ‘Glee’ Super Bowl 2011 Episode

Who says that young girls don’t care about Super Bowl Sunday? This year there’s a big reason for tweens, teens and non-football fans to get in on the action. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new spot for Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” 3-D flick will run during the super special post-Super Bowl episode of “Glee.” The 30-second commercial is set to air during the February 6 episode of the hit Fox comedy. The film opens one week later, on Valentine’s Day weekend. THR further reports that the ad will be shown during “Glee” and not the Super Bowl proper since the film’s target demographic is more likely to tune in to the musical TV show than the big game. This is not the first time Bieber has teamed up with a major sporting event to support a release. During Game 3 of last year’s World Series, the teen pop star debuted a mini-music video for the unplugged version of his song “Never Say Never” to promote his acoustic album, My Worlds Acoustic. Bieber’s flick isn’t the only movie taking advantage of the Super Bowl’s massive viewership. Several blockbusters will air commercials on Fox sometime during the evening, whether it’s preshow, during the game or, in Bieber’s case, postshow. It reportedly costs about $3 million for 30 seconds of airtime on the big night. Variety reports that the movies “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “Super 8,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Cowboys and Aliens,” “Priest,” “Kung Fu Panda 2,” “Just Go With It,” “Battle: Los Angeles,” “Limitless,” “Rango” and “The Eagle” all will have commercials broadcast during Super Bowl Sunday.

Kristen Stephenson-Pino Cries Out for Attention, Points Flirtatious Finger at Johnny Depp

Star Magazine typically concocts quotes from made-up sources in order to create the appearance of a scandal. In its latest issue, however, the tabloid actually cites a real person… while still creating the appearance of a scandal. Model Kristen Stephenson-Pino, an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides , tells the publication that Depp called her into his trailer on set and said: “You’re by far the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.’ It was one-on-one. I was in there for a few hours.” Did Depp, who has two kids with Vanessa Paradis, actually make a move? No. He simply offered up some alleged, playful, flirty banter. “I was like, ‘I’ll take you and Orlando Bloom! That’s the only way you can get me,’” Stephenson-Pino said. “He starts laughing and goes, ‘Honey, no, no no, I don’t share with anybody. You either get me or me, and that’s it.’” Wow. What a total and complete scumbag, huh?

Michael Jackson Asked Album-Cover Artist To Paint Him Before He Died

Kadir Nelson only spoke to Jackson once before the singer’s death. By Gil Kaufman Kadir Nelson Photo: MTV News When it came to putting together Michael, the first posthumous album of material from late King of Pop Michael Jackson, everyone was working with half a playbook. The producers of the singer’s first studio album since 2001 had to figure out what the notoriously detail-oriented Jackson would want them to do with the grab bag of songs he was working on at the time of his death. Even the artist behind the album’s iconic cover, a Renaissance-painting-like mash-up of iconic images from throughout Jackson’s career, was forced to go on his understanding of what Michael would have approved of. That artist, Kadir Nelson, sat down with MTV News last week to walk us through the thicket of images on the cover and explain how he came to create the visual summary of the pop icon’s solo career. Nelson said the ball started rolling in 2003, when Michael was working on songs for his Number Ones collection at Marvin’s Room, the legendary Los Angeles recording studio founded by R&B great Marvin Gaye in 1975. Jackson saw a pair of paintings Nelson had made chronicling Gaye’s life and fell in love with the images. “As a result of seeing it, he called me one afternoon and he said, ‘I really like your Marvin Gaye painting … I want one, about me … but I want it bigger.’ Because Michael liked things to be big,” Nelson said. But, as with so many projects begun by Jackson, after Nelson followed the singer’s advice and read the autobiography “Moonwalker” and did some research on the painting that was to hang in Michael’s home, other things came up and the project fell through the cracks. Then, following Jackson’s death in June 2009, his longtime friend and now estate co-executor John McClain rang Nelson up and said the gig was back on. “[He said], ‘It’s time for you to do that painting that Michael wanted you to do,’ ” Nelson recalled. ” ‘Don’t ask any questions, just do the painting and we’ll figure out what to do with it later.’ ” The resulting image plays into Jackson’s lifelong belief that bigger is better, with a regal Michael staring out in the central image while wearing a prince’s Victorian blouse with a high, ruffled collar, a silver-gloved hand placed over his heart and a jewel-encrusted crown hovering over his head. Around that central image are painted nods to everything from such classic videos as “Beat It” and “Thriller” and a spaceship from one of his favorite movies, “E.T.” and MTV’s Moonman, a reference to the fact that Jackson’s videos helped make the channel the force it is today. The sadness of Jackson’s death made Nelson a bit hesitant at first, but he said he realized he was getting a rare second chance to follow through on the abandoned project, so he was quick to say yes. “I did it because I felt that it would be a very important document … and a tribute to Michael’s life,” he said of the finished work, titled “The King of Pop.” He described it as a “panoramic celebration of Michael’s life, music and career” and said he strode to make it as perfect as possible to match the level of perfection Jackson insisted on in his music and art. “I felt that I owed it to him, to his family, to his fans, to do the best job possible.” Though Nelson only spoke to Jackson that one time in 2003 over the phone, he worked with the singer’s brother, Jackie Jackson, on the image over a five month period at the studio where the Michael album was being completed and said that Jackie gave some insight into his sibling’s thoughts. When the final image was produced, MJ’s brothers Jackie and Marlon Jackson and McClain gave it a thumbs-up and said he did a good job. Like the video for the first single, the Mark Pellington-directed “Hold My Hand,” it’s an artistic leap that attempts to tap into Jackson’s elusive magic, but Nelson feels like he succeeded. He considers the final product — his biggest-ever canvas at more than 9 feet wide by 4.5 feet tall — his Sistine Chapel. And like Michelangelo’s signature work, Nelson labored long and hard on the painting, putting hours in from August 2009 until January 2010 and then again on and off until October. ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 4’ To Shoot In 3-D

Johnny Depp’s fourth open-water adventure, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,’ will be shot in Disney Digital 3D. By Eric Ditzian Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” Photo: Disney Captain Jack Sparrow might have to learn a new seafaring ditty that goes a little something like, “Yo-ho-ho, a bottle of rum and a pair of your finest 3-D glasses.” Yes, Johnny Depp’s fourth open-water adventure, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” will be shot in Disney Digital 3-D, the studio has announced. That brings the total number of 3-D releases in the next two years to, oh, approximately 6,000 (not really, though it certainly feels that way). The noteworthy development for “Pirates,” then, is not that it will hit theaters as a 3-D movie but that it will be shot in three-dimensions rather than converted during post-production. The 3-D conversion process has become one of the more controversial trends in Hollywood. Converted films, like “Alice in Wonderland” or “Clash of the Titans,” can have a sort of pop-up picture book effect that is more jarring than it is an effective visual and storytelling addition. That hasn’t stopped other big-budget films shot with 2-D cameras from jumping on the 3-D conversion bandwagon and the premium ticket prices that can be sold as a result. Upcoming converted films include “Piranha 3-D,” “The Last Airbender,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and “The Green Hornet.” And then there are the movies shot — or soon to shoot — in 3-D, despite some of the inconveniences that come with such productions (such as the heavier, less maneuverable cameras): “Drive Angry,” “Tron Legacy” and “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” That “Pirates” has decided to film with 3-D cameras lends credence to the idea that such cameras will become the norm in Hollywood, rather than the contentious conversion process. In light of the “Pirates” move, it will be interesting to see what other blockbuster franchises such as “Spider-Man,” “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers” choose to do. Will the minds behind these films decide that a true 3-D experience can only be created via 3-D cameras? Or, at least for now, will conversions continue to a popular creative choice? “I think the answer is that, as with most movies, you’re going to do some kind of combination if you end up doing it,” “Transformers” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told MTV News last month. “I’m sure 3-D cameras are going to get lighter and more manageable and all the things that get in the way right now. Over time, that may change. But I think in the near and medium term, most movies will do a combination when and if they do it.” What do you think of “Pirates” going 3-D, and the 3-D movie trend? Women With Fake Boobs: Big NO-NO In The New Movie Pirates of the Caribbean

filmofilia Women with fake boobs are a big No-NO in the new movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Makers of the said film banned women with faux bossoms from applying for a role in the next megahit. The director of this fourth installment,Rob Marshall, gave a very strict set of credentials demanded to casting directors saying that the film-makers were seeking “beautiful female fit models. Must be 5ft 7in – 5ft 8in, size 4 or 6, no bigger or smaller. Age 18-25. Must have a lean dancer body. Must have real breasts. Do not submit if you have implants.” The film-makers from “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” said that potential actresses are expected to go through a “test” to verify whether their breasts are fake or in fact the real deal. The specifics of the “test” haven’t been disclosed yet. A former casting agent was quoted as saying “In the last movie there were enhanced breasts to give that 18th-century whoreish look and men were pretty well padded, too, and no one worried but times are changing and the audience can spot false breasts.” Keira Knightley, now 24, who was 18 when she was filmed the first installment of movie, revealed her previous experience, saying: “I am not that well endowed so they literally painted in my cleavage. It took about 45 minutes every day for make-up artists to add shade and volume and it looked fantastic until it got too hot shooting. Then the make-up would start smearing and the lines running away.” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is due to be released in May 2011.
