Fan Helps 76ers on Twitter, Earns Job With Team

Two NBA fans took it upon themselves to help out their favorite team on Twitter last week, only to receive a legally threatening email from the Philadelphia 76ers. By the end of the ordeal, though, the fans ended up with box seats to the Philadelphia 76ers’ home opener, season tickets … and a job with the team for one. How in the world did that happen? The 76ers launched a fan voting contest last week to choose a new team mascot between three finalists. But the team failed to get the nominees on social media. Helpfully, Jerry Rizzo, 23, and friend Hunter Coleman, 22, went ahead and registered Twitter accounts for two finalists, @PhilEMoose and @BFranklinDogg. They began tweeting from the accounts trying to help promote the contest. On Friday, however, they received an official email requesting that they hand over the accounts, “pleasantly without the use of lawyers or anything like that.” Rizzo, a communications graduate and self-described “social media sponge,” gave up the accounts in exchange for box seats and tickets … but it gets better. Saturday, 76ers CEO Adam Aron left Rizzo a voicemail asking Rizzo to call him back. He set up an interview that ultimately led to him being offered a job. In the end, he was rewarded for his entrepreneurial sprit with a full-time social media position with the team – “about as close as it gets” to the perfect gig. Will Roscoe Dash’s Party Anthems Earn Him ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC Of 2010’ Title?

Fans decide our ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010′ — vote now! The winner will be revealed July 25. By Shaheem Reid Roscoe Dash Photo: MTV News “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” Candidate: Roscoe Dash Over the weekend at Atlanta’s Birthday Bash , Roscoe Dash performed in front of 20,000 hometown fans. The crowd at Philips Arena is one of the realest you can perform for; if they’re not feeling you, your time onstage could seem like an eternity. But backstage before his set, Dash was on straight chill mode. “This my first [Birthday Bash]. I’m finnin’ to put on for my city,” he said, looking at everyone from behind a pair of shades. “I try not to think about it too much so I won’t get nervous. I’m just gonna go in here and give it my all, give them a good show.” Dash had every right to be confident, because his song “All the Way Turnt Up” is not just one of the most popular songs in the city, but in all of hip-hop. The record by itself could have qualified Dash to be a candidate for “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010.” “Turnt Up” built instant excitement in the clubs with an undeniable bass-laden track and lyrics tailor-made to sing along to, not to mention Roscoe’s off-key but melodic sing-songy flow. “Its amazing, man,” Roscoe said of his success. “I’ve been doing music my whole life. So for me to find a way to finally get my foot in the door, and give these people me as a person, rather than just an artist, I’m enjoying it.” “Turnt Up” was so popular, Soulja Boy agreed to appear on the album version of the record, while lauded MCs such as Ludacris and Lupe Fiasco freestyled on the track. In the past few weeks, Dash has evaded the tag of one-hit wonder with another certified banger, “Show Out.” The second single from Dash’s Ready Set Go! debut (due July 20) basically follows the same formula as “Turnt Up,” and the results are similar too. Cam’ron and Rick Ross have already made unofficial remixes, while DJs have made it a favorite in clubs and on radio. “I just go in,” Dash said about setting up a string of party anthems. “I just do me. I never wake up and go to the studio and say, ‘I’mma make an album song or a mixtape song.’ I just go in and just do me.” But breaking through requires more than just a couple of hits. You have to have a deeper impact when it’s all said and done. Roscoe said he already knows what he has to do to cause an earthquake in the game. “Hard work and dedication, same thing that got me here,” he assessed. “I gotta keep doing it, man, and not let it break me down. This industry has its ups and down. It’ll take a toll on you. It’s about moving forward.” Roscoe and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Cast your vote for the “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” right here! The top five will be revealed beginning July 19, and the winner will be announced on the “Sucker Free Summit” July 25!

Drake Talks Michael Jackson, Dead Prez ‘Over’ Homages

‘Just to honor him was great,’ Drizzy tells Mixtape Daily of MJ. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Kelly Marino Drake Photo: MTV News Celebrity Favorites: Drake DP still keep it crunk up! “Drake borrowed the style — they took it right back. They did their thing,” DJ Drama told Mixtape Daily on Monday. He was explaining why Dead Prez wanted to freestyle on the 23-year-old’s “Over” on their new tape Revolutionary but Gangsta Grillz. “The guys go in on a lot of records,” Drama said. “The hits, as well as some obscure joints. They had to go in on ‘Over.’ ” The mixtape came out Tuesday and borrows from the title of their 2004 LP, Revolutionary but Gangsta A few months back, while on the set of his “Over” video, Drake told MTV News he was a fan of M1 and Stic.Man. “I also do this thing in the song [‘Over’] where I flip Dead Prez,” he said of his tip of the hat to the duo’s “It’s Bigger Than Hip-Hop” from their classic 2000 debut, Let’s Get Free. “They say, ‘One thing about music when it hits you feel no pain/ White folks say it controls your brain/ I know better than that/ It’s just game.’ I love that flow,” Drake explained. “So I took that flow and flipped it in the second verse.” But Drake doesn’t just nod to DP on the track; the Toronto MC pays tribute to the greatest artist ever, Michael Jackson. Since this week marks the one-year anniversary of his death, it’s only right we let Drizzy chime in on his stellar MJ reference: ” ‘Bout to go ‘Thriller’ Mike Jackson on these n—as/ All I need is a f—ing red jacket with some zippers.” “That was sort of my reference point; that phenomenon of Michael,” he said. “He was young and had the world excited and anticipating his every move. That was my homage to him and the impact that he had on the world that I live in. It’s also … great for people to say. Especially, unfortunately what happened to him, just to honor him was great.” “Over” is currently the #1 hip-hop song in the country, topping the Billboard rap songs chart. Dead Prez ‘Go In’ On New Gangsta Grillz Tape, DJ Drama Says

‘It’s some heat on there, man,’ Dram tells Mixtape Daily of Revolutionary but Gangsta Grillz. By Shaheem Reid Dead Prez i> Revolutionary but Gangsta Grillz cover Photo: Gangsta Grillz Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Headliners : Dead Prez and DJ Drama Mixtape : Revolutionary but Gangsta Grillz Essential Info : The red, black and green forever! M-1 and Stic.Man of Dead Prez are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their classic debut, Let’s Get Free, with a new mixtape in conjunction with DJ Drama. The street CD — which came out Tuesday (June 22) — also gives a nod to another classic of theirs, 2004’s Revolutionary but Gangsta. “The Dead Prez tape is called Revolutionary but Gangsta Grillz, ” Drama said Saturday in Atlanta, backstage at Birthday Bash 15. “I jumped on it. I remember when Dead Prez first came out. I did an interview with them, [during the] old ‘Soul in the Hole,’ Loud Records day. It’s a way for me to get in and do projects that people might not expect, but it’s still quality music. I take my brand where I want to. Dead Prez is definitely deserving of a Gangsta Grillz. It’s a good balance. “The guys go in on a lot of records,” Drama added. “The hits as well as some obscure joints. They had to go in on ‘Over.’ Drake borrowed the style; they took it right back. They did their thing. They went in on Gucci’s ‘Wasted.’ You’ll be surprised about that. They went in on a couple of instrumentals. It’s some heat on there, man.” Of course, the Drake track Dram refers to is the song “Far From Ova,” which is already on the Net. Last month, for Mother’s Day, Prez also released “The Beauty Within,” which uses the beat and reworks the hook from B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You.” Other Heat This Week

World Cup 2010: Wesley Sneijder says Champions League beats World Cup

• Quality of football ‘better’ in European Cup • Dutch have become more pragmatic Wesley Sneijder, the Holland attacking midfielder, has criticised the quality of the football played at the World Cup to date and said it suffers by comparison to the Champions League. “So far the favourites didn’t show what they are capable of and only Germany really impressed,” said Sneijder who won the European Cup last month with Internazionale. “I think everyone has to get used to the circumstances, like the ball and altitude, and it all will start from now on,” he said. “Besides that I enjoyed watching countries like North Korea and New Zealand playing their games, but then you realise the Champions League is far better.” • Follow the Guardian’s World Cup team on Twitter • Sign up to play our great Fantasy Football game • Stats centre: Get the lowdown on every player • The latest team-by-team news, features and more The pragmatic approach used by José Mourinho at Inter has been taken on board by Sneijder’s Dutch team-mates but Holland’s performance in their 2-0 defeat of Denmark has not met with the approval of the media back in the Netherlands or the team’s fans. “In Spain and Italy they like it when you win with good football but winning without is appreciated,” said Sneijder. “Two years ago at the Euro finals we were expected to pick up the trophy after two impressive wins [over Italy and France] and the whole team got carried away with the euphoria. We know what is expected of us and that we can do much better but I can’t remember a World Cup or Euro in which a team plays six or seven fantastic matches.” World Cup 2010 Holland World Cup 2010 Group E guardian.co.uk

Pill Preps First Gangsta Grillz Tape, Holds Off On Debut

‘I don’t want to rush it,’ the Atlanta MC tells Mixtape Daily of taking his time on The Medicine. By Steven Roberts and Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Pill Photo: Atlantic The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Pill is going for the trifecta next week. The rapper burst onto the scene last year thanks to his frantically-paced anthem “Trap Going Ham.” Since then, he’s released two “pharmaceutical”-themed mixtapes, 4180: The Prescription with DJ Burn One and 4175: The Refill with DJ Skee. Now, Pill is upping his prescription when he drops his first Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama, 1140: The Overdose, on June 1. “Me and DJ Drama, it will be a Gangsta Grillz. Get that on your mind right!” Pill told Mixtape Daily. ” 1140: The Overdose. I got few features, but I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. You could look for it to be along the same lines of The Prescription or The Refill. I just try to keep it going the way I usually do it. I don’t want to switch it up, because I made it this far doing what I do, so I’m going to keep doing what I do.” Pill’s previous tapes have mixed original material with jacked beats from a wide array of artists like Destiny’s Child and the Notorious B.I.G. The Overdose continues in that tradition: Freestyles over Ludacris’ “How Low” and T.I.’s “I’m Back” have already leaked to the Web. His tapes have helped Pill win a spot on XXL ‘s 2010 Freshmen 10 . Despite his quick rise, Pill said he won’t rush his aptly titled debut album, The Medicine. “I don’t want to rush it, because you know how a lot of people get signed and they drop an album ASAP, and nobody knows who they really are? I don’t want to fall victim to that,” he said. “[I’ll] probably drop another two mixtapes and then be looking forward to the album. I don’t want to drop it on them. I want them to be like, ‘We need that Pill album,’ so I can give them The Medicine. ” Other Heat This Week

Cory Gunz Explains Delay In Signing With Lil Wayne’s Young Money Label

‘I got nothing but respect for him. Free Wayne,’ Gunz says of his new boss, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Cory Gunz Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Well, it took a few years, but Cory Gunz has finally signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment. We all thought years ago — in the wake of Gunz dropping lyrics for Weezy’s Tha Carter III blockbuster “A Millie” (Gunz’s bars never made the album as originally planned, but it did land on mixtapes) — that Cory was going to be down with the team. … But there was the matter of the Bronx native’s recording deal with Def Jam and then President Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. “[There were] miscommunication issues,” Cory said recently in New York about why he’s just now getting down with YM and CM. “Me and other ventures, a bunch of other paperwork. [Years ago] Wayne took time out of his schedule. He was promoting Tha Carter II and he took time out of his schedule to come from ‘TRL’ and ‘106 [and Park]’ and come to Sony studio; Shot out to Just Blaze. He took that and remixed it. Wayne did that for free back then. It was a situation that was supposed to go down before, but I was in paperwork with Hov at the time. One thing led to another. I was freed up and he reached out by the powers that be and now I’m here [on his label]. History is about to be made. He just kept it 100. I got nothing but respect for him. Free Wayne.” “Shout out to Wayne,” he added. “Shout out to the whole Young Money family. Shout out to Mack Maine. Everybody. It’s definitely official. Young Money/ Cash Money. Shout out to Wayne for giving me a shot. He kept it real. All I’mma say, that this is it. This is what it is. Everybody just better get ready.” Cory has been recording a bunch of material for an album that he had planned to title God Forgives, I Don’t. That LP is now going to be an EP and will be preceded by a gaggle of mixtapes . Cory’s Young Money debut LP still has no title, but Weezy will steer the ship once he gets home from prison later this year. “Definitely. Wayne is gonna executive-produce the album,” he explained. “I trust his insight. He’s going to be overseeing everything. I’m gonna keep doing the things I been doing. I think that’s what’s gotten me noticed. I’mma just keep my grind moving. Whatever ventures I can do, I’m bringing my family through. My whole team is gonna eat. I’m just telling everybody to get ready.” Cory will have no problem getting acclimated into his new family. He has relationships with quite of few of his teammates already. “I haven’t met Nicki [Minaj] yet,” Gunz said. “Me and [Drake] met a while back when they was doing the I Am Music Tour in Arizona. I went over there with Shaquille, and Drake shouted me out [onstage]. It was something he didn’t have to do. The fact he did that way before [I was on Young Money], I was humbled by that. As far as Jae Millz, me and Millz — had a relationship before all of this. I went on my first road tour with Millz. I talk to Chuckee and Twist a lot. Mack, of course, I talk to. Gudda is family, Short [Dawg]. Shout out to T-Streets too.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Will New Def Jam Exec Sha Money XL Bring The G-Unit To The Label?

‘I would like to provide an opportunity for them to continue to grow,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sha Money XL Photo: MTV News Executive Decisions: Sha Money XL Queens is in the building — again. Sha Money XL has signed on to become the senior VP of A&R at Def Jam Records. The label has had such a rich history of Queens-bred fellas in the boardroom, from its founder Russell Simmons to Irv Gotti to one of Sha’s mentors, the late Jam Master Jay. XL is excited to plant his flag in the cherished hip-hop recording house. “I’ve been floating around this industry since I’ve just been executive-producing 50 [Cent]’s albums,” XL explained Thursday at the MTV offices. “Freelancing, doing my own thing. I’ve been able to meet with L.A. Reid. We’ve been having some great conversations. Finally, the call came. It felt so good. Def Jam is such a strong company and strong roster. The staff is amazing. I felt it instantly. I knew that this is something I can do with my New York vision and New York swag and bring that for all the guys that’s based out here. And the things that was needed to excite the industry as well, internally and externally. I connect with everybody by all levels.” Sha said that after being with the G-Unit for so many years, there is no such thing as pressure to him anymore. “I work good under pressure,” he said. “Working with 50, I know what needs to get done. I don’t feel pressure. I do the things that need to be done. As long as artists listen and we really become businessmen in this business, as we say we are, I think we should all prosper. I’m looking to make the company more money and take it to the top, the highest level.” So with 50 Cent a free agent, free to bring himself and his label — which includes Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo — anywhere he pleases, will Sha try to secure a spot for his longtime friends at Def Jam? “I spoke to Fif, to [his manager Chris] Lighty. I would love to see that there,” Sha admitted. “Banks has an amazing record right now, independently. If things work out, then yeah, I would love to see that happen.” If the Unit came to Def Jam, things would get interesting, to say the least. Shyne, Rick Ross, Nas and DJ Khaled, people who Fif and the Unit have had problems with through the years, are all on the roster. “I’m a businessman,” Sha Money said when asked how he would feel having the Unit in the same building with some of their adversaries. “The beef stuff, I’m over. We at a certain point in life where we don’t even need that. We eat that. So I will let them speak for their own, but honestly, I would like to see a company continue to grow. And I think G-Unit is in a position — coming from an independent space — that can continue to do their thing. I would like to provide an opportunity for them to continue to grow.” While the Unit deal is just in the talking stages now, Sha says his top priority is making sure Juelz Santana gets his LP out. XL already has his sights set on DJ Toomp to get in the lab with Juelz. This will not be the last time you hear from Mixtape Daily on Friday (April 30), we promise. On Friday evening, we will have a preview of the mixtape you are all anticipating, Jadakiss’ Gangsta Grillz Invasion: The Champ Is Here Part 3. There’s no way we could get through this week without delivering a Main Pick. Will Lauren Conrad Make A Final ‘Hills’ Cameo? The Stars Weigh In

‘It would be nice to have her come back,’ Audrina Patridge says of a possible LC reunion. By Jocelyn Vena Lauren Conrad Photo: Jordan Strauss/ Getty Images The drama on the final season of “The Hills” is sure to be juicy, but it would be an extra-special treat for fans if original star Lauren Conrad stopped by one last time . While there are no confirmed plans for LC to hang with her crew again on the show, her pals admit that they’d be down with having her make one final appearance. “I feel like when Lauren was on, she was like the very good one who was always telling everyone what they did wrong or what they should have did, so with her coming back, it’ll be like our older sister coming back and giving us advice,” Audrina Patridge told MTV News. “It would be fun. It would be nice to have her come back.” Patridge said “there’s been talk of that,” but, obviously, nothing is final. “I am not sure if she is actually coming back to the show, but it would be nice towards the end,” she said. “The last episode, she comes back, and we all kind of rekindle and, you know, spend our last moment together before it’s all over.” Kristin Cavallari joined the show in season five, just as her frienemy LC was leaving, but she’d totally be down to share the screen with Conrad. “I think it would be amazing if she came back. I think it would be great, but there’s nothing set in stone,” she said. “I think that’s how we should end it: have Lauren and I in a scene together. That’s how we should end it. That would be amazing.” Would you like to see LC come back? Tell us in the comments! “The Hills: Final Season” airs at 10 p.m. ET/PT every Tuesday followed by “The City” at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
