No Business As Usual: 15 People Are Arrested Demanding Georgia “Count Every Vote” In Gubernatorial Race

Photo By Raymond Boyd/Getty Images A State Senator Is Amongst Those Arrested On Tuesday, 15 people were arrested during a protest at Georgia’s Capitol building in Atlanta, according to NBC News . The protesters were demanding that the uncounted ballots from last week’s gubernatorial race be tallied. Democrat Stacey Abrams is going against Republican  Brian Kemp for governor and the race is still too close to call. So far, Kemp holds a lead over Abrams of less than 58,000 votes as of Tuesday. Demonstrators on Tuesday were chanting to “count every vote,” according to law enforcement. Georgia State Patrol told NBC News that the demonstrators were arrested for unlawfully disrupting “orderly conduct of official business” at the state capital building. Amongst the people arrested on Tuesday was Sen. Nikema Williams , who was additionally charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice. State patrol said that the protestors were taken to the Fulton County Jail. Williams spoke about her arrest to The Washington Post . She said she was apprehended “because I refused to leave the floor of this building where I’m a state senator.” She went on to say that the protest was peaceful. Protestors have set up a bail fund site for anyone who wants to donate to the cause. The race between Abrams and Kemp comes a week after Election Day as Georgia officials continue to tally uncounted ballots in the race. Earlier Tuesday, a federal judge ordered Georgia to guard against the improper rejection of provisional ballots and to hold off until Friday to confirm the state’s election results. Abrams is hoping to narrow Kemp’s lead so that a mandatory recount or a runoff can happen. State law requires a candidate has more than 50 percent of the vote in order to win outright. Kemp currently has 50.3 percent of the overall vote. Meanwhile, Abrams has not conceded the race, despite pressure from Kemp who has already declared victory.

#BlackLivesMatter: Texas City Council Approves Measure To Rename Street Sandra Bland Parkway

Texas City Council Approves Measure To Rename Street After Sandra Bland Prairie View City Council has approved a measure to rename a major city street after Sandra Bland , the woman who was found dead in a Waller County Jail cell following her arrest last month. Via ABC 7 Chicago : Earlier Tuesday, hundreds of Prairie View A&M students, alumni, and friends marched at Prairie View A&M, pushing to get the street going into the university named “Sandra Bland Parkway.” Some of the participants were her sorority sisters with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated. Some went to school with her. Many never met her but her story touched them in some way or another. The walk started at the student union building at 4:27pm, the time Bland was pulled over on July 10 and subsequently arrested on University Boulevard. The walk ended about a mile and a half away at City Hall, where hours later council members agreed to rename the street. Authorities say the 28-year-old Bland hanged herself with a plastic bag three days after her arrest. But her case struck a nerve across the nation and in Prairie View. The majority of the people out marching on Tuesday said there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding Bland’s death. “If every time they pull over a student, they have to be reminded of what took place here, then that will help the relationship to be more respectful between the officers and the students,” protester Hannah Bonner said. Not everyone wants the street to be renamed. One woman told Eyewitness she believes what happened to Bland is tragic, but there are people who have done much more for the Prairie View community and who are much more deserving of such an honor than Bland. We will always remember Sandra Bland!

Steubenville Schools On Lockdown Following Shooting Threat! Sex Assault Suspect’s Former Guardians Say “We Love Him Regardless Of What Happened That Night”

WTF?!?! Via NYDailyNews Steubenville Ohio Schools Locked Down Following Shooting Threat Schools in Steubenville, Ohio, were placed on lockdown for more than an hour after a shooting threat was received Tuesday in a district that’s gained national attention in a controversial forced sex assault case. Police were searching all buildings in the school district after 8:30 a.m., while students remained in classes, according to NBC affiliate WTOV. While buildings were cleared around 10 a.m., Superintendent Mike McVey said security will be stationed at all schools until further notice. The threat, which was made online, comes after a series of protests against city and school officials. Please sweet baby Jesus, keep these crazy muhfuggas away from this school. Earlier Tuesday, a couple who raised one of the Steubenville High School students accused of forcing sex on a 16-year-old girl during a night of partying last summer said it would be “out of character” for him to have participated. Ma’lik Richmond, 16, will stand trial next month along with Trent Mays, also 16, in a highly charged case that has rocked the small town of Steubenville, on the West Virginia border. Both students, also players on the school’s celebrated football team, are pleading not guilty. Richmond remains under house arrest at the home of Greg and Jennifer Agresta, although they are no longer his legal guardians. They had first taken him in at age 8, they said Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show. Jennifer Agresta described Richmond as a “very laid-back young man” who was “surprised” to learn that he was being charged with forced sex and kidnapping. That’s all well and good, but THIS is the part that we just can’t quite buy… The Agrestas claim they never asked Richmond about what happened the night of the alleged sex assault. “It doesn’t matter to us,” Jennifer Agresta said. “We love him regardless of what happened that evening.” You haven’t asked him what happened?!?! Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit…so you bring him back in your home for house arrest as an accused rapist and you don’t ask him what happened? Yeah, aight… Clearly there is evidence against him… Richmond’s attorney, Walter Madison, declined to discuss the accuracy of the charges. He admitted, however, that a picture circulating online featuring two males carrying a young woman who appears to be limp and unconscious includes his client. Last week, an attorney for Mays wouldn’t confirm whether his client was in that photo, but suggested it could have been staged. Sorry folks, we know you love you some Ma’lik, but c’mon son. Watch the Agresta’s speak for yourself below.

Elsewhere In The World: Al Qaeda’s Second-In-Command Abu Yahya al-Libi Has Been Killed By U.S. Drone Attacks In Pakistan

1, 2, the Army’s comin’ for you… Al Qaeda Leader Abu Yahya al-Libi Has Been Killed By U.S. Drones Abu Yahya al-Libi, the No. 2 man in al Qaeda and a longtime public face of the terror network, is dead, White House spokesman Jay Carney confirmed Tuesday. Al-Libi’s death was “another serious blow to core al Qaeda,” said Carney, who was unable to provide further details. “His death is part of the degradation taking place in core al Qaeda in the last several years,” Carney said. Earlier Tuesday, U.S. officials said that al-Libi was killed by a CIA drone strike in Pakistan launched Monday. Al-Libi’s death marks one of the most significant blows to al Qaeda since the U.S. military killed Osama bin Laden in a daring nighttime raid in Pakistan a year ago. Al-Libi was second-in-command behind al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, who took the helm after bin Laden’s death. “There is no one who even comes close in terms of replacing the expertise (al Qaeda) has just lost,” said the U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Al-Libi “played a critical role in the group’s planning against the West, providing oversight of the external operations efforts,” the official said. “Zawahiri will be hard-pressed to find any one person who can readily step into Abu Yahya’s shoes,” the official said. “In addition to his gravitas as a longstanding member of AQ’s leadership, Abu Yahya’s religious credentials gave him the authority to issue fatwas, operational approvals and guidance to the core group in Pakistan and regional affiliates.” The U.S. Armed Forces is NOT to be f**ked with! We appreciate the hard work that the men and women of the military put in to keep us all safe. Hoo-rah… Image via CNN Source

Rapper tells MTV News police ‘misconstrued’ his four-finger ring as a weapon. By Rob Markman 2 Chainz Photo: MTV News It’s no secret 2 Chainz loves his jewelry, and while the Atlanta rapper is known to start a riot or two with his raps, he never thought his expensive trinkets would cause such a ruckus. Earlier Tuesday (May 22), 2 Chainz was arrested In New York’s LaGuardia Airport after officials found what they described as “brass knuckles” in his luggage, but it was nothing more than a four-finger ring, the rapper said. “They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag,” 2 Chainz told MTV News in an exclusive telephone interview. “It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff.” Police took Chainz into custody around 1:45 p.m. ET and charged him with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. “The knuckles were in his personal bag and sounded the alarm,” an officer told MTV News on Tuesday. “I do exclusive pieces. My pieces are actual conversation pieces, like, literally. When you see my gold, when you see my stuff, it’s something to conversate about,” Deuce explained. “People weren’t doing four-finger rings and all that. I just like to set myself apart, so I definitely wasn’t trying to beat nobody up on the airplane or nothing.” The rapper was on his way to perform at a North Carolina concert, and when he phoned MTV from New York’s Teterboro Airport, he estimated that he spent approximately eight to nine hours behind bars. 2 Chainz eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser, unspecified charge but never got his jewels back. “Yeah, they took it from me, they took the Louis [Vuitton] case that I actually keep the jewelry in, they took that. I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Me just trying to explain it was getting too frustrating, me just trying to explain my occupation and then when they finally got to the jail and everybody knew who I was, then they started calling their kids and putting me on the phone with their kids. It was like a weird experience.” Though he was upset about the situation, 2 Chainz chose to focus on the positive. His debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, is set to drop August 14, he is currently on tour with Drake, and he’s involved with Respect My Vote, an initiative that encourages young people to participate in the voting process. Now, 2 Chainz hopes to be able to put the arrest behind him. “I don’t find that intriguing. You’re supposed to make your mistakes during adolescence and use these times right here to kinda fix some of the things you did in the past, so with me I’m doing Respect My Vote, I’m doing all kind of things to try to have some positive news.” Related Artists 2 Chainz
