Stacey Abrams Is Not Done With Brian Kemp And His Jim Crow Tactics

Go here to read the rest:

S tacey Abrams  may have acknowledged that  Brian Kemp  won the election for governor of Georgia, but she is not giving up on fighting for every vote to be counted. Several lawsuits have been filed against Kemp, and now Abrams is reportedly filing another one. See Also: Bill Cosby Sentenced To 3 To 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Assault Conviction Abrams told Chris Hayes on MSNBC, “It was not a free and fair election. Brian Kemp oversaw — for eight years — the systemic dismantling of our democracy and that meant there could not be free and fair elections in Georgia this year.” However,  Abrams is doing something about it. She explained, “We have started an organization called Fair Fight Georgia. We are going to file a federal lawsuit — next week — that will allege the gross mismanagement that we have seen and that we have been able to document.” She continued, “In fact, we thought we were going to go forward with the case today or this week, but we have gotten so many more — so much more information from voters, so many more calls, that we’re continuing to gather affidavits and we’re going to push it to next week, given the holidays,” Abrams explained. Watch below: Kemp allegedly (and more than likely, fraudulently — considering he is legendary for voter suppression ) received 50.2 percent of the vote and he would have needed to be under 50 percent for there to be a runoff. Weeks before the election, former President Jimmy Carter called on Kemp to resign . He refused and waited until two days after the election to offer his resignation, arguably, after his corruption had already been done. Keep on fighting, Stacey Abrams! Quote Of The Day: Detroit Councilwoman Tells President Obama “We Voted For You… Now Bail Us Out!!!” As City Heads Toward Bankruptcy

Does Barack Obama owe the City of Detroit a bailout? One city councilwoman seems to think so. Via MyFoxDetroit : The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help. City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizens support of Obama in last month’s election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. “Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?” Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November. “After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. He came home with some bacon,” said Watson. “That’s what you do.” Young served as Detroit’s mayor for 20 years and served as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1977 to 1981. The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year. The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse. What do you think President Obama should do? If he bails out Detroit, where does it end?

Former President Jimmy Carter Tells Real Life Tale In Behind-The-Scenes Argo Clip

Former President Jimmy Carter gives Ben Affleck’s talked-about new movie Argo a shot of credibility in this behind-the-scenes clip from the movie.  The former Commander in Chief, whose presidency was hobbled by the Iranian hostage crisis — during which 52 Americans were held for 444 days from Nov. 4, 1979 to Jan. 20, 1981 — acknowledges that, as told in Argo , there were six diplomats who managed to evade capture and were spirited out of the country as the crew of a fake Canadian science-fiction movie. Check out Movieline ‘s photo gallery from the Argo premiere featuring Ben Affleck, George Clooney and Stacy Keibler here. Adding to the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction quotient of the movie is the character of Academy Award-winning make-up artist John Chambers (John Goodman) , who, in addition to working on the Planet of the Apes movies and inventing Spock’s pointy ears for Star Trek , was a CIA agent.  Chambers, working with his agency colleague Tony Mendez (Affleck) played a key role in the story. In the clip, Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston, who plays CIA officer Jack O’Donnell, says that although Argo, which opens Friday, is steeped in espionage and bureaucracy at the highest level, truly, when you get down to it, it’s about the human experience and what lengths people will go to save the lives of others.” Argo is in theaters Friday. Troy Davis Funeral Set And Witness Speaks Out “He’s Innocent” [Video]

Troy Davis funeral is being held today: A funeral service is set for Saturday morning for Troy Davis, a convicted cop killer who was executed despite pleas by many that he was actually innocent. The funeral service at Jonesville Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia, is being billed by organizers as a celebration of Davis’ life. Ministers, activists and NAACP President Ben Jealous are among those scheduled to speak at the event. The event is open to the public. Davis was put to death by lethal injection last week for the 1989 killing of an off-duty police officer in Savannah. His case had drawn international attention because of the many critics who thought Davis was innocent. The case had been battled in many courtrooms before his execution. A jury and several judges on appeal determined that Davis killed Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989. Spencer Lawton, Davis’ prosecutor, has said the case withstood every legal challenge but couldn’t win the battle of public opinion. Former President Jimmy Carter, who along with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Pope Benedict XVI was among the most influential voices calling for clemency, said as much in his statement after Davis’ lethal injection. “If one of our fellow citizens can be executed with so much doubt surrounding his guilt, then the death penalty system in our country is unjust and outdated. We hope this tragedy will spur us as a nation toward the total rejection of capital punishment,” Carter wrote. Click Here To See The Witness Say She Thinks Troy Davis Is Innocent!!

REVIEW: For Better and Worse, Night Catches Us Lives a Little Too Much in the Past

Set in Philadelphia’s summer of 1976, Night Catches Us opens with the sound of Jimmy Carter’s voice wending through an urban neighborhood, planting the usual, soft promises as it passes. His vow to give power back to the people is, I imagine, why first-time writer and director Tanya Hamilton pulled that particular clip from the teeming archives: It adds a layer of situational resonance to her story of the last days of the Black Panther movement, before that story even begins.

Newsweek Uses Same Excuse for Obama as Carter: Presidency Too Big for One Man

In the November 22 issue of Newsweek magazine , Daniel Stone defended the Obama administration by blaming the institution of the presidency for failures rather than the chief executive himself: “The issue is not Obama, it’s the office….Can any single person fully meet the demands of the 21st-century presidency?” The same argument was used to excuse an overwhelmed Jimmy Carter 30 years earlier. The sub-headline for the piece read: “The presidency has grown, and grown and grown, into the most powerful, most impossible job in the world.” At one point, Stone explained: “Among a handful of presidential historians Newsweek contacted for this story, there was a general consensus that the modern presidency may have become too bloated.” A January 13, 1980 Washington Post article made a similar conclusion about the beleaguered Carter administration: “Voters have lowered their expectations of what any president can accomplish; they have accepted the notion that this country may never again have heroic, larger-than-life leadership in the White House.” read more
