It’s never too early to heed the Call of Duty, is it? Although the next edition in this video game franchise doesn’t come out for six months, Activision launched the first official trailer duty for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare today. The company says this version will be the first Call of Duty game not set in the present, as it will focus on “battlegrounds of the future, where both technology and tactic have evolved.” And it will also feature Kevin Spacey! All we know is that the Oscar will play a powerful politician of some kind – and that his voice is featured in the following extended promo. Check it out now and start the the countdown until the November 4 release date: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Trailer

It’s no Kevin Spacey photobomb , but it’s pretty solid. Emma Stone struck last night at a New York City party for the Mike Bartlett play Bull , popping up in the background of a group shot with her boyfriend Andrew Garfield. Check out her fine photobombing effort below: Well played all around, Emma. Well played. Stone, 24, and Garfield, 29, are also collaborating on other things. They’ll star in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , which is set to open exactly a year from now.

Contest time again! And while our L.A. squad had all the fun last time around, today I’m pleased to offer readers in and around New York City a chance to check out a nifty new doc tying the Bard, cutthroat competition and the winsome likes of Kevin Spacey and Richard Dreyfuss together in a potent nonfiction blend. If you’ve got this Friday night free and are feeling creative and/or lucky, read on to win a pair of tickets to Shakespeare High . The festival favorite makes its theatrical debut this weekend at Lincoln Center’s Howard Gilman Theater, with director Alex Rokaru and several of the film’s young actors in attendance. Check out the trailer: To win a pair of tickets to the screening this Friday, March 9 at 6 p.m. , all you have to do is write a 10-word review — no more, no less — of your favorite Shakespeare screen adaptation . While there’s hope that one idiotic theater in Washington encouraging audiences to text during movies dies a speedy death, take heart in the actions of new Movieline hero Kevin Spacey . The actor took a stand at a recent Sydney performance of Richard III when a rude theatergoer answered their cell phone during the play. “Spacey, the would-be Duke of Gloucester, singled out the phone owner and bellowed ‘Tell them we’re busy!’,” reports the UK Telegraph. “The audience erupted in support.” Sigh. If only actors could leap off the screen to do the same in cineplexes. [ Telegraph via Movie City News ]

Writer-director J.C. Chandor isn’t traditional Verge material — a 15-year veteran of commercials, documentaries and short films whose dramatic feature debut, Margin Call features a eye-popping ensemble cast of Oscar winners (Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons), seasoned pros (Stanley Tucci, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Simon Baker) and next-generation standouts (Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley) taking on the tale of a New York City investment bank flirting with oblivion at the dawn of the ongoing financial crisis. And thanks to both the cast and his own formidable chops, Chandor pulls it off with impressive aplomb .

If there’s one simple request I have of Kevin Spacey, it’s that he take one movie off from wearing a suit. Mix it up! Grow your hair out! Wear schlubby clothes! Don’t always be so Kevin Spacey-esque, Kevin Spacey, because it’s become a thing and we’re all tired of it. Which is why the new trailer for the indie comedy Father of Invention seems a step in the right direction. Long prison beard and an everyman’s sense of humility? Bring it on, Spaceman.

A funny thing about the financial crisis that started in 2008 and continues to affect both Main Street and Wall Street to this day: it doesn’t really translate that well to film. Well, feature films, anyway. The documentaries are great — see Inside Job , for reference — but from Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps to the HBO film Too Big to Fail , the biggest news story of the last three years seems all too small and boring when high-priced stars are acting out its machinations onscreen. Into that arena comes Margin Call ; can the star-studded fiscal drama succeed where others failed?
