Ryan Murphy Reveals Tribute to Cory Monteith, Plans For Glee Character

Speaking out about the death of Cory Monteith , Glee creator Ryan Murphy has revealed how the show will handle the loss of one of its biggest stars. Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter that he and the rest of the cast are still grieving: “It’s always sad and shocking when somebody so young dies.” “One of the things that made it even more upsetting is that so many of us who knew and loved him were actively involved in trying to get him better.” “When you’re faced with something so sad and so shocking, what do you do? Do we cancel the show? Do we start shooting in January? What do we do?” “The right thing to do for the show, at this point, is to have that character pass,” Murphy says of his plans for the premiere, which was pushed back a week . “Ultimately, we decided the best thing for everyone is to get back to work and be around people who knew him and loved him so that everyone can grieve together.” “When we do a tribute episode to [his] character, we’ll do it in a way where the cast will not have to re-create feelings of grief they’ve had this week, but do it in an upbeat way.” Murphy says the role of Finn Hudson, McKinley High’s football star-turned-glee clubber, will not be re-cast, and the season’s third episode will be a tribute. Murphy said he told Cory Monteith’s costar and real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele , that he would understand if she didn’t want to return to Glee this fall. She said that was not an option, however, and will be back. Glee returns Thursday, October 26.

REVIEW: Opportunist Glee: The 3D Concert Movie Deserves a Slushie to the Face

One of the running gags in Fox’s effervescent hit high school series Glee is that no matter how things occasionally come up roses for the show choir freaks and geeks of McKinley High, there’s always someone, slushie in hand, waiting to take the Gleeks down a peg or two back to cold, brutal reality. Ironically, it’s that same multicolored frozen treat, globbed at the screen in slow-motion over the end credits of Glee: The 3D Concert Movie , that underscores a similar, sad burst of recognition that’s perhaps been long coming: For all the uplifting, inclusive good that Glee inspires in its young target demographic, it’s a property that’s become high on its own self-projected, self-congratulatory fantasy of “fuck the haters” do-goodingness. And there’s nothing more that Glee needs or deserves right now than a slushie to the face.

Help Movieline Caption This Picture of Glee’s Kevin McHale ‘Pimphanding’ Gwyneth Paltrow

And so with the immortal words, ” TWITTER – PRE PIMPHANDED GWYNETH PALTROW win,” Glee ‘s Kevin McHale ascended to the heights of slushie-proof popularity by posing in the hallways of McKinley High, prepared to do violence unto Gwyneth “Forget You” Paltrow as a horrified Heather Morris looked on in shock holding something resembling a fruit cup. Somehow we don’t think McHale anticipated the unabashed glee (zing!) the world might get from the idea of slapping Oscar singing sensation Paltrow in the face, and here at Movieline we wouldn’t condone violence to anyone, regardless of their relentless warblings on television shows , the CMA s, the Grammys , and the Academy Awards , but there you have it. Caption it after the jump!

‘She came in and just blew the roof off this place,’ Lea Michele gushes. By James Dinh Lea Michelle Photo: Getty Images Not only did Gwyneth Paltrow’s guest appearance on “Glee” please Cee Lo , it also left a lasting impression on the show’s castmembers. Lea Michele and Jane Lynch recently opened up about the Oscar-winning actress’ return to the halls of McKinley High for a yet-to-be-filmed episode and why they look forward to working with her again. Speaking with “Access Hollywood,” Golden Globe nominee Michele said she hopes to do another number with Paltrow, admitting she was originally starstruck by actress. “Oh my God, that was so unbelievable,” she gushed. “Half the time I was like … all that was processing in my head over and over again: ‘That’s Gwyneth Paltrow. That’s Gwyneth Paltrow.’ It’s so unbelievable.” While many celebrity guests have appeared on the hit Fox show, Michele felt that Paltrow left an impression, saying, “She came in and just blew the roof off this place. I’m telling you, no one has come in and has done what Gwyneth did. She came in, totally not intimidated by anything and she went from doing Cee Lo to ‘Chicago’ and just totally did it with ease and grace like she’d been here every day before that.” The 24-year-old star also told “Access” host Maria Menounos that, before leaving the show, Paltrow wrote her “the loveliest note.” “She’s just so sweet and I can’t wait to have her back,” she added. Michele isn’t the only castmember looking forward to the “Country Strong” star’s return as substitute teacher Holly Holiday. Jane Lynch said she was “thrilled” to have Paltrow revisit “Glee.” “I thought she did such a wonderful job,” Lynch told “Access Hollywood.” “She proved that she has the goods, you know, she’s the real thing. She sings, she dances and obviously she had a good time and we worked her so hard that week she was here. I hope I get to do more with her.” Are you excited for Gwyneth’s follow-up cameo? Glee’s Chris Colfer Talks Golden Globes, Tonsillitis Outbreaks, and Romance with Blaine

To say Glee ‘s Chris Colfer is basking in the glow of his second consecutive Golden Globe nomination for his role as McKinley High’s estranged gay pioneer Kurt is a bit of an understatement. “I’m so excited I’ve been tackling everyone I’ve seen on set today,” he enthuses, before adding with a chuckle, “Whether I know them or not!” Not everyone in the Glee cast shares Colfer’s enthusiasm, however. “Ashley Fink [Lauren] sent me a hysterical text message,” he recalls. “She said she was excited that I was nominated but she was more excited for Burlesque .”

Virulent Infection Ravages The Cast Of Glee

A malevolent virus stalks the halls of McKinley High and has already felled many of even the most hale members of the Glee club. And while it would be cool to imagine it’s some weird zombie virus (Rachel Berry was born to stalk the earth for delicious brains!), it’s actually just a nasty case of tonsillitis. Filming of their post-Super Bowl special was halted to give the poor sickies the weekend off, but will resume on Monday. For once, young Hollywood types are actually suffering from exhaustion rather than just too much blow and whiskey. It’s a Christmas miracle! [ EW ]
