Source: Brand X Pictures / Getty Retired Couple Find System To Make $26 Million Off Lottery There is a belief in America that all you have to do is work hard and you can have riches beyond your wildest fantasy. There is also a somewhat conflicting belief that all you have to do is guess the right lottery numbers and you can forgo all that hard work and get right to the bag. This is a story about doing the semi-hard work of playing the lottery correctly in order to not only secure the bag for yourself but also your family and friends. Jerry and Marge Selbee have won $26 million over the course of six years from the day Jerry realized that he knew how to finesses the system according to DailyMail . The couple owned a convenience store for 17 years, prior to selling the business Jerry learned about a new lottery game called Winfall. In Winfall, if no one matches all six winning numbers there is a “roll down” where the jackpot money is distributed to those who matched five, four, and three of the six winning numbers. Jerry figured if he bought enough tickets at the right time then he would pull enough roll down tickets to actually make money. Explaining how he first came up with the scheme, Mr Selbee said he worked out that if he played $1,100 worth of tickets, he would have one four-number winner, which would give him a $1,000 return. He would also have either 18 or 19 three-number winners, which would pay out $50 each, leaving him with a $1,900 return. His first attempt at cracking the code saw him double his money, firstly buying $3,600 of Winfall tickets and getting back $6,300. From this point it was on and poppin’. Jerry and his wife started a corporation called G.S. Investment Strategies and invited their loved ones to invest in shares for $500. For six years they sat in motel rooms going through lotto tickets to find the winning sets during roll down weeks. The have sold the rights to their story to movie producers who also want to cash on this unbelievable story.
Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Mindy Kaling To Star In Comedy About Diversity In Writers Rooms Amazon just closed a $13 million deal for Late Night , a comedy about diversity in a late night talk show writers room that is written, produced, and stars Mindy Kaling . This marks the first major sale out of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Late Night is set to co-star Emma Thompson as a comic who begrudgingly takes an Indian-American writer (played by Kaling) under her wing after she is shamed into hiring more women and minorities. In her cover story for Variety , Kaling said that she saw Late Night as a chance to retell a familiar story of someone trying to break into the entertainment business, but from a fresh perspective. “So much of this movie is about being a fan and being on the outside of the entertainment business,” she told Variety . “That story has been told many, many, many times by 52-year-old white men, and I love all those movies. And as a comedy nerd I’ve always identified with them because it was the closest thing that I could identify with. There was no one like me making those kind of films.” Late Night was originally set up at Fox 2000 with Paul Feig slated to direct the comedy, but plans changed following Kaling’s pregnancy and an illness in Thompson’s family resulted in the start date getting pushed back. Once production finally began, Kaling lined up independent financing and tapped Nisha Ganatra to direct. Late Night also co-stars John Lithgow, Amy Ryan, and Ike Barinholtz.

The rapper received a $20,000 payday from Birdman, all from a little football bet. YG officially confirmed that his payment came in on his Twitter account on Friday. Birdman money kame In — STAY DANGEROUS (@YG) January 24, 2019 Last Sunday, January 20, the Bompton native posted a video of himself celebrating the Los Angeles Rams and their victory over the New Orleans Saints in their NFC playoff matchup. As you probably already know, The Rams are now set to make their way to the 2019 Super Bowl and play against the New England Patriots on February 3 in Atlanta. Since the Rams’ win earlier in the week, YG has been on social media very publicly demanding that the Cash Money Records CEO pay him his money. Many fans jokingly assumed that since Birdman took almost 10 years to pay his own signee Lil Wayne, he would probably take his sweet time paying YG what he’s owed. He owes me $ https://t.co/PSsosXWd69 — STAY DANGEROUS (@YG) January 21, 2019 But luckily for YG (and for Birdmans’s reputation) that’s not the case this time. He paid the rapper his 20,000 less than a week later. Continue reading →
Source: NBC / Getty Megyn Kelly Finally Exits NBC With $30 Million Settlement Megyn Kelly is officially no longer an employee of NBC, but she didn’t make her exit without securing a hefty settlement first. NBC announced on Friday that they had finalized the terms of Kelly’s exit, only two short years after she signed a $69 million deal with the network: “The parties have resolved their differences, and Megyn Kelly is no longer an employee,” NBC announced in a statement to the New York Times . The publication reports that the former host will walk away with a $30 million payout, which is the remainder of her original $69 million contract. Back in January of 2017, the former Fox News anchor signed on to host the Megyn Kelly Today show , which was canceled back in October following her controversial comments about blackface. “But what is racist? You truly do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface at Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween,” Kelly said as she spoke to an all-white panel on her then-morning talk show. “Back when I was a kid, that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as like a character.” Unsurprisingly, Kelly’s ignorance about blackface immediately sparked outrage, prompting her to issue an apology in which she used said ignorance as an excuse. “I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry,” she wrote in an email to her NBC colleagues at the time. “The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep. I’ve never been a “pc” kind of person — but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age. Particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year.” Kelly recently told TMZ she would “definitely” be back on TV, but the ratings for The Today Show have only increased since she left–companies might wanna take note.
Source: Nigel Carse / Getty $150 Million In Student Loan Debt To Be Wiped Away The Education Department is wiping a whopping $150 million in federal student loans off the books, and has already begun the process of informing thousands of borrowers that they no longer owe the government money because the schools they attended shut their doors. The loan forgiveness, which was announced earlier this week , applies to about 15,000 borrowers as federal education officials begin to carry out new rules that they fought in court for more than a year over. The department said it began notifying some of the borrowers by email on Friday that their loans would be discharged within the next few months. Any payments that the borrowers made toward a loan will also be refunded, it said. About half the borrowers attended Corinthian Colleges, a large for-profit chain that went bankrupt in 2015 after a deluge of lawsuits accusing it of predatory recruiting practices and false marketing. The rest attended one of the more than 1,000 other schools that shut down between November 2013, the start date for the automatic-discharge rules, and November 2015. The new rules require the department to automatically forgive the loans of eligible borrowers three years after their school closed, but students can apply before then. Under the Education Department’s closed school forgiveness program, federal student loan borrowers can apply to have their loans wiped away if they attended a school that closed while they were enrolled, or soon after, and they do not transfer their credits elsewhere. The program is based on the principle that lenders bear responsibility for ensuring that a loan is sound, and that borrowers shouldn’t be responsible for loans taken out for an education that turned out to be worthless. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has said that she intends to rewrite the rules for some of the agency’s debt-forgiveness programs; The soonest those changes could take effect is July 2020. “The federal government must become a more responsible lender,” Ms. DeVos said, adding that students “need to understand the implications of their decisions.”
