Rachel Lindsay is ready to meet her men. For real, that is. On her very own TV show, we mean. On Monday night’s After the Final Rose special, Lindsay was surprised to actually shake hands with four of the suitors who will be vying for her heart this spring on The Bachelorette. This unexpected development was a sign of how excited ABC is to present viewers with the first African-American Bachelorette . And now exeuctive producer Mike Fleiss is here to once again prove how psyched the network is for Lindsay to anchor Season 13 of this beloved franchise. On Thursday night, Fleiss live-Tweeted night one of filming, teasing social media followers with photos of lights, cameras, limos and even some “cheesecake and beefcake.” Not to mention Lindsay in the dress she’ll be wearing while making the acquiantence of 25 men. “Let’s do it!!! #TheBachelorette,” Fleiss captioned the above photo, which features Lindsay, Fleiss, Chris Harrison and some other guy. He then went ahead and offered up this sneak peek of Lindsay about to emerge from her fancy car on the premiere: As you can see in the pictures above and below, Lindsay donned a sleeveless white patterned gown for the occasion. She looks beautiful. Elsewhere on Twitter, Fleiss gave fans a look at the 7,500-square-foot Bachelor mansion in Agoura Hills, California. No doubt this will be the scene of many arguments, drunken evenings and debates over who is on the show for the right reasons. “Almost time,” Fleiss simply wrote as a caption to the following photo. Lindsay is a 31-year old attorney from Dallas, who, to be frank, comes across as far more level-headed and normal than most women who have appeared on this series. She has said she regrets putting her professional life before her personal life and is now focused entirely on finding love and settling down. “I think @TheRachLindsay will be one of the Top 3 Bachelorettes of all time. She is wonderful!!! #TheBachelorette,” wrote Fleiss on Thursday night. We were then taken inside the production truck: “15 minutes til limos… #TheBachelorette,” read this caption. For those wondering what sort of food is served along with the champagne on opening night, Fleiss even went ahead and gave us a clue: Delicious food! Yummy food! Very sweet food! “Night One. Cheesecake and beefcake…#TheBachelorette,” he captioned this image: Finally, what would a preview of The Bachelorette be without a look at the suitors themselves? Simply referring to them as “dudes,” Fleiss Tweeted the following photo on Thursday, which is a worth a close look because it features more African-American men than the typical season of The Bachelorette. It’s about time, isn’t it? In February, Lindsay told People Magazine that she’s “at a stage in life where I’m ready for a family, I’m ready to get married.” She added in a separate interview that she’s open to any type of man, saying: “I want a guy who is not afraid of [commitment]. I’ve come across that in my past.” That sound you hear is millions of women nodding their heads in agreement. Are you pumped for Rachel Lindsay to be The Bachelorette? In February, we told you that the newest “Bachelorette,” make that “Black Bachelorette,” had been picked earlier than usual. She is 31-year-old Rachel Lindsay, a civil defense litigation attorney from Texas. Lindsay was just eliminated on last night’s episode of The Bachelor to move on to bigger and better things. “To be the first African-American woman is a beautiful thing,” Lindsay said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about what’s next for her. “I’m honored and humbled to be the one chosen. Because that’s how I feel: like I was chosen to be in this role.” When speaking to PEOPLE last month about her excitement, Lindsay said that she was happy to “represent myself as a Black woman in front of America.” As a Black woman going on a dating show to find love, Lindsay told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s received a lot of questions from fellow Black people who wonder if she will pick a Black man (which was debated in our comment section when we announced Lindsay as the next “Bachelorette”). [ madamenoire ] The Lesson Even Beyoncé Could’ve Learned From Emma Watson’s Feminism When I first saw Emma Watson’s titties on the pages of Vanity Fair I didn’t think anything of it. She’s a woman. She has breasts and that day she felt like showing them. No big deal. But then came all this conversation about Emma being a feminist and whether or not feminists should exploit their bodies in this way. I rolled my eyes. It’s an old and tired argument. If the decision to show a bit of side boob, was indeed her own, then what was the problem? During this time of apathy, I stumbled across a tweet from For Harriet founder Kimberly Foster. I wondered what that meant for a second but still didn’t care to do the research. Then yesterday, I discovered that Emma was defending her comments and clarifying her statements made about Beyoncé. Ding! That’s the ticket. Not only was the story made more salacious and outrageous by the attack on one of my faves, the best entertainer of our generation. It also positioned White feminism against Black feminism or even more simply a White woman against a Black one. That’s when I started paying attention. First, I heard that Emma allegedly questioned Beyoncé’s feminism when she saw the visuals for the album that “stopped the world” Beyoncé dropped. But before that narrative could even percolate, Emma came through with the transcript to clear her name. The Duggars are officially set to welcome yet another family member. Which of these reality stars is pregnant now , you may be wondering? No one, at least not as of this writing. But Joy-Anna Duggar is engaged to Austin Forsyth , with the 19-year old daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle confirming the exciting news herself just a few days ago. “We just got engaged!” Joy-Anna told Us Weekly in early March. “I’m so excited to be engaged to my best friend.” The two have known each other for 15 years, but only just started courting in mid-November. “I'm so excited to be engaged because that means the next step is marriage,” Joy-Anna added, explaining the engagement concept for those unaware of how it works and adding: “I’m excited to see what the future holds for us!” And Joy-Anna isn't the only Duggar who feels this way. Jessa Duggar and husband Ben Seewald recorded a sweet video last night to congratulate Jim Bob and Michelle's fifth-oldest daughter on her new relationship status. “Hey, Joy and Austin, congratulations,” Ben says in the clip, which features him holding 16-month old son Spurgeon and Jessa cradling one-month hold son Henry. Jessa then directs her attention to Joy-Anna and Austin, who are even holding hands now , and chimes in as follows: “We’re super excited for y’all getting engaged, and we are looking forward to the big day – your wedding day. The little boys say congratulations too.” Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard had previously sent well wishes to the engaged couple via their own TLC-produced video. “Hey Joy and Austin, congratulations. We just heard the good news on the engagement,” Derick says in that piece of footage. “Yeah, we’re so excited for you all!” Jill adds. Check out Jessa and Ben's video below and then send along your own congratulatory message to Joy-Anna and the man she may one day kiss now!
You don’t need The Bachelor spoilers to tell you that Nick Viall’s journey for love reached its tipping point on this penultimate episode. With Season 21 of The Bachelor escalating toward its conclusion next Monday, who was eliminated and who advanced to the finale? Watch The Bachelor Season 21 Episode 10 Online On The Bachelor Season 21 Episode 10 , you knew we’d start with the burning question, the resumption of the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers: Did Nick make Raven Gates orgasm or no? We were spared any graphic details, but when Raven and Nick woke up in Finland after a night in the Fantasy Suite, she said the following: “Nick is really good at what he does.” “So I’m pretty satisfied today.” There you have it. Would you expect anything else from Nick Viall, given his level of experience with the winner of The Bachelor franchise? View Slideshow: Raven Gates Photos: Will She Win Nick Viall (and Bachelor Nation’s) Heart? Next up is Rachel Lindsay, who was announced as The Bachelorette weeks ago, so we knew at some point, she and Nick would split. This made for an interesting dynamic, especially with Rachel seeming to be on cloud nine in Finland with Nick. Would the other shoe drop? “You’re rare. And refreshing,” she tells him, beside herself that she’s still on the show with a guy she considers so amazing right now? “I might be white, but I’m still a minority,” he says. Well then. He has a way with words, that Nick. “Rachel, I am falling for you,” he says, making the inevitable breakup that much worse for Lindsay and her fans at home “100 percent.” One hundred percent? Was Vanessa at 110? View Slideshow: Rachel Lindsay: Get to Know The Bachelorette! Speaking of whom, Vanessa Grimaldi spent much of her romantic date with Nick in an ice bath, because this dude needs a cold shower. We kid, but he kind of does, are we wrong? “If we can do this together, we can do anything,” Vanessa says, in a cliche that makes kind of no sense in this context, but we digress. Shortly thereafter, Vanessa asks Nick about moving to Canada , and this proud American has a difficult time visualizing that scenario: “Your family’s so traditional. I’m not.” Nevertheless, it’s Fantasy Suite time soon enough, and it presumably goes well, because Nick is crying later … that he has to cut someone. View Slideshow: Vanessa Grimaldi: The Bachelor Favorite? Much as we make fun of the man, and the show, it can’t be easy when one of the three women who did nothing wrong has to get dumped. Who would it be? As The Bachelor spoilers predicted, Raven Gates gets the first rose from Nick, and Vanessa Grimaldi gets the second. There was no twist. Rachel is going home. She’s crushed, and a little surprised, but for the most part, she holds it together as he walks her out into the snow where the limo awaits. Fortunately, so does her second chance. If you watch The Bachelor online , you also saw the way she conducted herself on the Women Tell All special, and know Rachel is wonderful. Here’s hoping that fact, and the extensive time ABC has spent promoting her season in advance, pays off with a great list of contestants. Nick Viall has officially reached the hometown dates, with his final four ladies exactly who The Bachelor spoilers told us they would be. No one saw this blast from the past coming, though … In a sneak peek at Monday night’s episode, we see the man of the hour travel across the country to meet the parents of his top four. One of whom we know for a fact will be eliminated. That's because Rachel Lindsay is The Bachelorette , as ABC surprisingly announced before she was even cut loose from The Bachelor. Will it be the hometown date that is her last? “Have you ever dated a black girl?” Rachel’s mother asks the 36-year-old during their sit-down chat. “What is your intention with her?” “I just can’t give you my blessing,” the dad of one of the women tells The Bachelor , in a blunt but frankly refreshing display of caution. Yeah. No one said hometowns were easy. In addition to being grilled by various moms and dads, and Corinne’s nanny for that matter, he has to grapple with his own feelings. Oh, and also Ms. Andi Dorfman. The Bachelorette star, and the first of many women Nick has romanced in hos nearly three years as a franchise staple, is back, baby. Why? Ratings, we're guessing. “Hello Nick,” says Dorfman, who chose Josh Murray over Viall on The Bachelorette finale in 2014, as the door to his hotel room opens. It remains to be seen what motive Andi would possibly have for flying in to confront Nick at this point in their lives, but hey. Good TV. For us. He does not look happy. Check out the sneak peek below and see what you think – and tell us whether Corinne, Raven Gates or Vanessa Grimaldi should win.
By now you’ve heard The Bachelor spoilers : Rachel Lindsay is The Bachelorette, despite still being in contention for Nick Viall’s heart. On TV, that is. She’s been eliminated by this point, as filming has concluded. We’re just learning about it ahead of time … from ABC. Therein lies the true “historic” nature of this announcement. Yes, Rachel Lindsay is the first African-American lead in 34 seasons of the reality franchise. That is significant and a very good thing. Giving away the fact that Rachel, a popular contestant this season, is not The Bachelor winner is a surprising and controversial decision. Rachel is still competing on the show, and will go on a hometown date (as will Corinne Olympios, Raven Gates and Vanessa Grimaldi). You can follow the links above to find out, but the assumption that Nick eliminates her after the hometown date isn’t necessarily true. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense if she made the finale now, but she could easily make it to the subsequent overnights following hometowns. For obvious reasons, the next star of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette has never been announced during the current season they’re on. As a result, Chris Harrison has apologized for this spoiler … one most likely necessitated or inspired by The Bachelor spoilers themselves. The third- or fourth-place finisher going on to be the next lead of the franchise is not abnormal. Finding out about it right now definitely is. If you’re hoping for a detailed, truthful answer to why the show’s brain trust went this route, you’re not gonna get it this week, anyway. “I hate that anything was ruined for #BachelorNation but I’m incredibly excited that @therachlindsay is our new #Bachelorette,” Harrison wrote. Notably absent? Any explanation of why. Entertainment Tonight reports that The Bachelorette will begin production sooner than usual, right after Nick’s season wraps on March 13. Producers need to start the process of casting suitors for Lindsay as soon as possible, and need additional time to generate interest? The producers did do this with Emily Maynard, who wasn’t on The Bachelor that season, as a means of getting applicants / fans excited. Perhaps the fact that Rachel has less of a social media presence than Corinne, Raven or others played a role in their decision to spill? Or, maybe it’s as simple as Chris, Mike Fleiss and their associates wanting to get ahead of the story and control it from the beginning. Every season, it’s spoiled. Just not by them. Rachel Lindsay has a fan base, one that is likely to grow in the period between the announcement and when she’s eliminated by Nick. Now that we know she’s The Bachelorette , the producers can craft what we see on and off the show accordingly to boost her popularity. Moreover, it avoids any disappointment by Bachelor fans who might be hoping for Raven or Vanessa to get the job (or Corinne, LOL). Dragging it out increases the possibility of spoilers, rumors and confusion taking away from Rachel’s announcement tour. No longer. As for whether the viewing audience will accept a black Bachelorette , and rumors that this had something to do with the early unveiling? We don’t see it. View Slideshow: Rachel Lindsay: The Bachelorette! This is a show that has survived since the early 2000s because of its format, not necessarily based on the strength of any one lead. Some leads are more controversial than others (Nick). Others (cough, Juan Pablo Galavis) have even gone onto be universally despised. Still, The Bachelor and Bachelorette soldier on, and by and large, the biggest stars of both genders are more popular with fans than not. Rachel will be no exception. As Harrison put it, she’s “a smart, strong, independent Texan who loves her @dallascowboys. What more could a man want?” Get to know her more via the gallery below and tell us what you think of ABC’s decision to cast her – and do so in unorthodox fashion … View Slideshow: Rachel Lindsay: Get to Know The Bachelorette!
Rachel Lindsay understands why so many people are so excited that she's been chosen as the new Bachelorette . She isn't dumb. She isn't blind. And she isn't ignorant. When Season 13 of this ABC franchise kicks off in the spring, Lindsay will become the first African-American to ever anchor either The Bachelorette or The Bachelor . That's pretty cool. That's something to make a big deal over. But it's also something Lindsay sort of hopes stops being the sole focus on everything she does and says over the next several months. “I’m honored to have this opportunity and to represent myself as an African American woman,” she told Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, adding: “I just hope that people rally behind me … and just realize that I’m just trying to find love, and even though I’m an African American woman, it’s no different than any other Bachelorette.” That's not entirely true, however. Lindsay is older than most previous Bachelorette stars at 31 years of age. She's also a lawyer in Dallas and, to be honest, seems far more grounded, intelligent and normal than other women who have appeared on this series. Lindsay was asked, for example, about the pretty terrible track record of long-lasting relationships on the program. And she didn't spout some cliche about love or make it sound like she was determined to find her Prince Charming. She simply replied as follows: “I just like to keep it 100 and keep it real. I figure if I just stay true to myself, it’ll be a successful show.” Forget being the first-ever black Bachelorette. Lindsay sounds like the first-ever sane Bachelorette.
