Samuel L. Jackson Can Now Be The Voice For Your Alexa

The company has announced the veteran actor ‘s voice is a new option for customers of its Alexa device.   Variety reports : Samuel L. Jackson inked a deal with Amazon to provide first celebrity voice option for Alexa, its cloud-based digital assistant. According to the ecommerce giant, it will add more celebrity guest voices for the platform starting in 2020. The Jackson “voice pack” for Alexa will be available later this year for the special intro price of 99 cents — and users can select either clean and explicit modes. Jackson’s baritone is coming to Alexa thanks to a new Neural Text-to-Speech technology developed by Amazon, announced at the company’s Amazon Devices event in Seattle Wednesday. That’s designed to make Alexa’s default female voice more human-sounding, with more emotive and expressive speech. It also lets Alexa replicate speech inflections of real people, too — meaning Jackson’s voice on Alexa will be synthesized, rather than delivered as pre-recorded words or phrases. To get started, after installing the Jackson voice pack, Alexa users just say, “Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson,” then choose whether they want him to use explicit language or not. Some example commands Amazon offered: “Alexa, ask Samuel L. Jackson where he is from”; “Alexa, ask Sam to wake me up at 7 a.m.”; and “Alexa, ask Sam Jackson to sing happy birthday.” (The company said the celebrity voice packs will not be able to help with shopping, lists, reminders or skills.) Issa Rae Invests In Black Woman-Led Tech Startup

T hroughout her entire career actress and producer Issa Rae has utilized her platform and work in the entertainment industry to empower Black women, and now she’s doing the same in the tech space. According to Variety , Rae recently invested in a Black woman-led startup. Issa Rae Acquires Stake in Streamlytics, a Streaming-Media Data Startup https://t.co/8QU69UHKH3 — Variety (@Variety) September 24, 2019 The Los Angeles-based company—dubbed Streamlytics—was founded by entrepreneur Angela Benton . The startup—which was created in 2018—utilizes media consumption data to bring transparency to the content consumed on popular streaming services and gives consumers the ability to own their data. Benton, who founded the first global accelerator for people of color, has been a fierce advocate for diversity and inclusion in tech. She hopes to use Streamlytics as an avenue to generate data that reflects the choices of viewers of color. Through Streamlytics she wants to create a space where minority consumers can not only access their streaming data but can monetize it as well. So far, the company has used data from Netflix and plans on expanding to other platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and social media sites. Benton is grateful to have Rae on board. “Having Issa involved as an owner is beyond exciting,” she said in a statement. “Her pioneering work as both a creator and as a businesswoman creating digital-first content that has transcended the internet-only medium aligns seamlessly with our company’s core values on ownership.” Rae is excited to invest in a company that will change the landscape of streaming data. She says platforms like Streamlytics are “necessary for transparency and consumer ownership.” Companies like the one created by Benton are needed as studies show that African American media usage is higher across different platforms. Black women are stepping up to invest in women of color-led startups. Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam teamed up with entrepreneur Arian Simone to launch a $5 million venture capital fund to support startups created by Black women. Detroit Youth Choir Receives $1 Million Donation

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan surprised the choir with the gift before scores of people during their homecoming celebration. Amongst the companies who contributed to the donation include the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, DTE Energy Foundation, Skillman Foundation, Huntington Bank, and Bank of America. Other donors included the Ballmer Group, Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Dakkota Integrated Systems and the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation. “I was watching you guys and you and Kodi Lee are on that stage, and my heart’s in my throat,” Mayor Duggan told the youngsters after they returned home. “When they announced it was Kodi Lee, I was a little disappointed for a second. But I was like, ‘He deserves a million dollars; he was great.’ The only thing I thought was unfair was there should’ve been two first prizes.” The America’s Got Talent stage isn’t the only notable one that the predominately Black choir has graced. They’ve performed at several Detroit Pistons games and were a part of the CityLab Detroit summit in 2018. “Our kids are your average Detroit young person,” choir director Anthony White told The Detroit News . “They relate to every young person in America and the world. There are no egos, all of our kids are good kids. We just want to represent to the country how good these young people are.” America’s Got Talent winner Kodi Lee —a musician who is autistic and blind—won $1 million and will perform at the Paris Theater in Vegas. Barbara Evans Trashes MTV, Wonders: How is Amber Portwood Still a Teen Mom?!?

Barbara Evans made $400,000 as a part-time cast member on Teen Mom last year. In a new interview with Radar Online, the polarizing mother of Jenelle Evans has plenty to say about both her own daughter and also Amber Portwood, but we felt it necessary open with this revealing tidbit. BARBARA EVANS MADE $400,000 FOR ONE SEASON OF TEEN MOM, YOU GUYS. This revelation aside (unless you still need a moment to digest it…), the crux of Barbara’s interview centered on two people and two facts: Her daughter, Jenelle, who was fired by MTV executives this spring after authorities temporarily took away her kids in the wake of David Eason murdering his family’s dog. Portwood, who remains a cast member on Teen Mom OG despite her July 5 arrest for domestic violence. In recently-released audio, we’ve learned over the past few days that Portwood seemingly beat and threatened boyfriend Andrew Glennon on numerous occasions, prompting Barbara to ask a pertinent question: How is she still a Teen Mom star?!? Moreover… how is Amber still a Teen Mom star while Jenelle is not?!? “Why should Jenelle and I lose our money, and why is MTV supporting Amber when Jenelle and I have done nothing wrong?” Barbara asks Radar . “We were on [the show] for 10 years too, and they stopped filming with us.” Adds Barbara, in total consternation: “Why is this fair? Why were we let go, and she wasn’t?” Barbara, of course, has been relevant on Teen Mom for years because she’s been serving as the guardian of Jenelle’s oldest child, Jace. She and Jenelle have had quite the contentious relationship, often arguing over both this custody arrangement  and Jenelle’s past drug use, among other ways and reasons why she’s largely considered an unfit mothre. Does Barbara have a point here? Yes and no. Jenelle absolutely should have been fired for both lying about Eason attacking her last fall and then for allowing her children to grow up in a home that also houses such a violent bigoy. No one can argue with a straight face that Jenelle deserves the platform and/or salary afforded to her by MTV. Now… should Portwood also be fired? In light of her arrest and the subsequent information that has come out about this long-time star? Probably, but one really has nothing to do with the other. It’s also worth noting that Portwood almost definitely WILL be fired anyway . This, despite the following hilarious defense of Amber by an anonymous Radar source: “Amber didn’t kill a dog. And she has not been convicted of a crime.” Techically, Jenelle didn’t kill a dog, either. But point taken. Still, in the aforementioned audio recording that leaked late last week, Amber allegedly exploded at Andrew… with their toddler in the room. Hiw crime? Waking her up for an appointment at 2 p.m. “If you don’t pick him up you f-cking fat piece of sh-t I’m going to f-cking stab you,” she says. “Get your fat ass up and get him.” Yeah. A year later, Netflix released Homecoming , a documentary which included that same iconic performance footage (compiled from both Coachella weekends) along with a behind-the-scenes look at just how much work went into making the whole thing happen. Fast forward to present day, Beyoncé’s concert film was nominated for six Emmys: outstanding variety special, outstanding costumes for variety, non-fiction or reality programming; outstanding directing for a variety special; outstanding music direction; outstanding production design for a variety special and outstanding writing for a variety special. Somehow, at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 14, Homecoming came up completely empty-handed. Though the documentary was nominated and snubbed in several categories, the one oversight that’s gaining attention is “Best Variety Special,” where Bey’s concert special lost to James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke special with Paul McCartney, When Corden Met McCartney. Corden’s series also won in several other categories including “Best Technical Direction/Camerawork/Video Control” and “Best Short Form Variety Series.” If you’re not familiar with Carpool Karaoke, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Late night host James Corden drives around with different celebrities while they sing along to songs together. That’s it. And that’s the series that won multiple awards while Beyonce and her Homecoming crew went home empty-handed (metaphorically, because Beyoncé didn’t actually show up to the award show…obviously). For a series that has the same production value as Cash Cab , fans are outraged that Carpool Karaoke went home with awards for camerawork and other accolades while Homecoming was completely snubbed. In what world would someone whose seen a Beyoncé performance and some karaoke ever pick the karaoke?! To say this weird Emmys outcome has caused some outrage online would be an understatement.
