Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Alicia Keys hosts the 61st Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and before the show officially got started, a few winners had already been announced including Dave Chapelle for Best Comedy Album, Black Panther for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” for Best Music Video and Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Future’s “King’s Dead” for Best Rap Performance. At the top of the show, Camila Cabello opens up the 61st annual Grammy Awards with a colorful Cuban inspired set for “Havana” featuring Young Thug. The highlight of the set was obviously Thugger who made a fashionable entrance in his finest Michael Jackson-esque rhinestone loafers but the guests didn’t stop there. Ricky Martin and J Balvin also joined Camila on stage for a “Havana” mashup. When that was over, Alicia Keys took the stage to begin her monologue. She thanked her friends, her husband, showed some love to Tracee Ellis Ross and then took a moment to surprise the audience by bringing out a few queens who happen to be some of the most honored women in the world. A big part of friendship is showing up for your girls—that’s why I was thrilled to be there for the one and only @aliciakeys at the #GRAMMYs . She is one of the most genuine and thoughtful people I know—there’s no one better to help us all celebrate the unifying power of music! pic.twitter.com/8cMhTmsClA — Michelle Obama (@MichelleObama) February 11, 2019 Without an introduction, out walks Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Jennifer Lopez. But that wasn’t even the best part —  Michelle Obama (who looked like a fine, tall glass of water) joined the ladies and the crowd erupted. There’s absolutely no way you can discuss queens and not bring Michelle O. Source: Kevin Winter / Getty Janelle Monae channeled her inner Prince when she took the stage for “Make Me Feel”. The Dirty Computer singer gave a very eclectic performance while wearing a black vinyl bodysuit and gyrating across the stage. If anybody knows how to put on a show, it’s Janelle Monae. She did THAT! “This Is America” won its second award of the night for Song of the Year. Unfortunately, he and his bleached out beard weren’t in the building to accept it. H.E.R, who was nominated for 5 Grammy awards, hit the stage to perform “Hard Place” and let’s be clear, her mic was ON! H.E.R. can sing live and she made sure we all knew it. The highlight of the night had to be Cardi B channeling her inner peacock and Offset loving every minute of it. Cardi twerked to “Money” with a tail of feathers and in that very moment, Offset was thinking about dropping a Kulture II in her womb. UHHHH CAN WE JUST?! #Grammys #cardib #offset pic.twitter.com/qD3lVwc3pV — Cosmopolitan (@Cosmopolitan) February 11, 2019 Drake shocked everyone when he actually showed up for the Grammys. The Toronto rapper won “Best Rap Song” for God’s Plan and he was up against some stiff competition. However, when he accepted his award, he treated everyone like a winner. He told his fellow rappers that even though they hadn’t won the actual award, as long as they had fans singing every word of their songs, waiting in the rain for their concerts, they are the real winners. Unfortunately, the Grammy’s wasn’t feeling that. They cut to commercial mid-speech. Yikes! WAIT…they cut Drake off???? #Grammys pic.twitter.com/MFuVCPAu1O — Global Grind (@GlobalGrind) February 11, 2019 Stay tuned here, as we give a live recap of the Grammys!

#RememberWhen: Ol’ Dirty Bastard Interrupts The 1998 Grammys After Puff Daddy Wins ‘Best Rap Album’

Go here to see the original:

Source: Jim Spellman / Getty Remember when Kanye West hopped on stage at the VMAs and interrupted Taylor Swift ‘s Best Female Video win? Of course you do, but depending on your age, maybe you didn’t know Kanye West wasn’t the first Black man to catch the spirit, run up on stage, and suddenly  speak his mind at an award show. Back in 1998, Wu-Tang Clan were nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys, but lost to Puff Daddy . Much like ‘Ye did in 2009, Ol’ Dirty Bastard intervened and gave everyone a piece of his mind—just as Shawn Colvin was about to accept her award for Song of the Year. Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty MTV reported at the time: “After sneaking to the microphone and kissing presenter Erykah Badu in mid-bumrush, O.D.B. urged the crowd to ‘Please calm down,’ and launched into a confusing speech thusly: ‘I went and bought me an outfit today that cost me a lot of money, because I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win,’ O.D.B. said, referring to the Best Rap Album that Wu-Tang was nominated for, but did not win earlier in the evening as the honor went to Puff Daddy. “‘I don’t know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children,’ O.D.B. continued. ‘We teach the children. Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. I want you all to know that this is O.D.B., and I love you all, peace.’ O.D.B. was then ushered off the stage, and a thoroughly confused Colvin was allowed to give her acceptance speech.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://globalgrind.cassiuslife.com” id=”4104584″ overlay=”true”] When asked what got into him, the late rapper reportedly told MTV News ‘ Chris Connelly backstage at Radio City Music Hall, “Something just jumped into my blood.” O.D.B. also apologized, though he said he believed the Grammy stage was, in fact, the appropriate place to express his thoughts on Puffy’s win. Puffy beat out the Wu-Tang Clan with his debut studio album No Way Out , which features many of his most classic hits to date, including “Victory” featuring Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes, “I’ll Be Missing You” featuring Faith Evans and 112, “It’s All About The Benjamins” featuring Lil Kim, The Lox, and Notorious B.I.G., “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down,” feat. Mase and more. Puffy also beat out Missy Elliott’s Supa Dupa Fly , Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Deat h, and Wyclef Jean’s Wyclef Jean Presents The Carnival . Watch it all go down at the 2:29 mark in the throwback clip up top and let us know if you knew someone Kanye’d before Kanye Kanye’d at the 2009 VMAs? Also, tune into the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, February 10 at 8 p.m. EST.

#GrammysSoMale No More: Alicia Keys Announced As The Host For 2019 Grammy Awards

Source: Jim Spellman / Getty Alicia Keys Is Hosting The Grammy Awards This Year Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys is set to host the 2019 Grammy Awards. The singer made the exciting announcement via her very own YouTube channel on Tuesday morning. She will be the first female host of the show in 14 years. “I’m soooo EXCITED to announce that I’ll be hosting the 61st Annual Grammy Awards !! There’s so much in store and I CAN’T WAIT for y’all to see it ALL come to life ” she wrote in the caption of her video. Alicia Keys is only the fifth woman to ever host the Grammys in the show’s 61 year span, and on top of that, she’s only the third woman of color. This gig will also make the first woman to host the show in 14 years, following Queen Latifah in 2005, Rosie O’Donnell in 2000 and 1999, Ellen DeGeneres in 1997 and 1996, and Whoopi Goldberg in 1992. The choice to have a woman host this year is important for the show, especially after controversy during last year’s program. At last year’s Grammys, only six women were nominated in the show’s major categories, and Alessia Cara was the only woman to receive an award during the entire televised portion of the show. Along with the announcement of Keys as 2019’s host, 15 women are nominated in the top four categories this year, compared to only six in 2018. Congrats to Alicia Keys!
