Here is the original post:

Fortunately HBO can broadcast things which the networks can’t. Bill Maher and Jane Lynch performed a reading of Anthony Weiner’s dialogue with a Las Vegas blackjack dealer named Lisa verbatim. This provides greater insight into what happened than can be obtained by the network evening news reports–plus it is hilarious to actually hear this out Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Liberal Values Discovery Date : 11/06/2011 18:50 Number of articles : 2

Keith Olbermann to Debut on Current TV June 20

Keith Olbermann, the controversial, progressive commentator who abruptly left MSNBC in January, will return June 20 at his next home, Current TV. The new Countdown with Keith Olbermann will air weeknights at 8 p.m. on the relatively new Current channel, co-founded by former V.P. Al Gore. “The show will combine familiar and popular features with some new elements we can’t wait to unveil,” says Mark Rosenthal, Current TV CEO. MSNBC fired Keith Olbermann unexpectedly early this year, sparking outcry from fans (and some chuckles from critics) and questions of where he would land. As part of his new deal , he also becomes Current’s chief news officer, a position he said was still defined when his Current deal was announced in February. Love him or hate him, Olbermann earned big ratings for MSNBC and was credited with helping create a progressive alternative to conservative talk shows. The precise events that led to his sudden exit in January remain somewhat unclear, but it’ll be interesting to see what following he develops on Current.

Katie Couric Officially Out at CBS News; Eyeing New Show at ABC?

CBS News’ Katie Couric officially confirmed what we all knew was coming today: She is leaving CBS News . “I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I’ve done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning,” she told People . What does the future hold for Couric exactly? “In making the decision to move on, I know that the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.” “I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling,” she says, though when and where are “still being discussed.” There is still an offer on the table for Couric to stay at CBS with a syndicated talk show and a role on 60 Minutes , but they’re not the only interested party. ABC has made a big push for a Couric talk show plus even wider exposure across its news platforms, including a presence on its 2012 election coverage. CBS News is reportedly not willing to match that end of the offer. NBC, which had expressed interest, is no longer in the running. One person close to Couric described the ABC move as “a distinct possibility.” Sources say CBS News initially accepted the idea of having Couric keep a role in the division, but have grown weary of the drawn-out negotiation process. “They are ready to wish her well,” says a person close to the talks. Scott Pelley will replace Katie as CBS News anchor.

Scott Pelley to Replace Katie Couric on CBS News

Katie Couric’s replacement on the CBS Evening News will be Scott Pelley, a veteran journalist and 60 Minutes correspondent, according to reports. Pelley is the choice of CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager, who became Chairman in February on the condition he could decide who takes the desk. He believes Scott is well-liked and respected by his bosses, and just as significantly, there really is no second choice who appeals to CBS bosses. Couric is leaving the desk to do a syndicated show at the network, but may maintain a news presence. What do you think of her replacement? Scott Pelley will soon replace Katie Couric as CBS News anchor .

Rates Unchanged, Yet CBS Insists ‘Battle Over Tax Cuts’ Means ‘Cuts for High-Income Earners’ and Middle Class

Matching the distortion documented in a MRC study posted Tuesday, though under the Obama-congressional GOP compromise income tax rates will remain unchanged for all, fill-in CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor introduced a story by characterizing a “battle over tax cuts” and how at a White House news conference President Obama “said agreeing to cuts for high-income earners was the only way to get middle-class cuts.” Except neither group is getting any income tax “cut” and the agreement simply forestalls a hefty tax hike. Over on ABC, World News anchor Diane Sawyer’s tease presumed “tax cuts” were under consideration when the alternative to the deal to extend them was not a cut but a tax rate increase: “Talking tough. President Obama tackles his Democratic critics and says Republicans held the middle class tax cuts hostage.” read more

Nets Expound on ‘Cost’ of Maintaining Tax Rates, Stress How ‘Tax Break for the Wealthy Increases the Deficit’

Framing the debate through a liberal prism hostile to continuing the current income tax rates, ABC and CBS worried Thursday night about the “cost” of not raising taxes, as if all money belongs to the government, as both expounded on how not ending the Bush rates will fuel massive deficits. “If all the Bush tax cuts end for the top two percent of earners, $700 billion will be added to government coffers,” CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric warned, and “if all the cuts stay in place, the deficit will soar by $3.7 trillion over ten years.”

Bozell, Hannity Tackle Couric-Murkowski Interview, NPR Portraying Bush As Drunkard in Latest ‘Media Mash’

Katie Couric's boosterism of “moderate Republican” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and NPR's cheap shot at former President George W. Bush's recovery from alcoholism were just two of the “Media Mash” topics NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell and Fox News host Sean Hannity addressed on the November 20 edition of “Hannity.” “When will you ever hear the word 'liberal' attached to a Republican?” Bozell asked, noting that Murkowski is in fact a liberal Republican. “In eight years, she was on [CBS] one time. In the last week, she's been on there twice,” the Media Research Center president noted after viewing a clip of CBS “Evening News” Katie Couric's November 15 interview with the Alaska senator. Qur’an Burning Threat Leads Network News to Discover Wisdom of Palin and Pope

“Anti-Muslim bigotry is a problem, but it is only exacerbated by the media’s tendency to exaggerate and sensationalize it,” the Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto observed Wednesday in looking at the media’s focus on the threat, to burn Qur’ans, by one widely condemned Florida pastor with barely a few dozen followers. On Wednesday night, for the second night in a row, two of the three broadcast network evening news shows led with Terry Jones (ABC and CBS on Tuesday, CBS and NBC on Wednesday.) But what I found amusing is how network journalists decided Sarah Palin, the Pope – and even Pat Robertson – are now sources of wisdom worth publicizing. Over aerial video of the Vatican (screen capture below), Katie Couric teased the CBS Evening News: “Tonight, despite condemnation from the Vatican and a personal plea from Muslims, that Christian minister in Florida is going ahead with plans to burn copies of the Qur’an.” “This is the news,” an excited Diane Sawyer announced on ABC, “not only is Billy Graham’s son Franklin trying to reach out to him, so is Sarah Palin.” Terry Moran relayed how “late today, Sarah Palin tweeted her opposition, writing: ‘Please stand down.’ And long-time televangelist Pat Robertson blasted Pastor Jones this morning.” In the second of two reports at the top of the NBC Nightly News, Andrea Mitchell touted how “the Florida pastor even got the Vatican’s attention” and aired a clip of a Vatican spokesman declaring: “This act would only call for new hate and violence.” Mitchell concluded by approvingly paraphrasing a political figure normally the object of journalistic scorn: “Sarah Palin has now tweeted that Pastor Jones should please stand down , that people have a right to burn a Qur’an but that it is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation that will feed the fire.” Palin’s tweet: “Koran Burning Is Insensitive, Unnecessary; Pastor Jones, Please Stand Down” Back to ABC’s World News, Terry Moran saw sinister views of Islam held by Americans, but failed to point out attitudes have held steady for years and are not spiking: Still, Jones vows to go forward, convinced he speaks for many Americans. A brand new ABC News poll confirms some disturbing facts. 26 percent of Americans admit to feelings of prejudice against Muslims and only 54 percent of Americans see Islam as a peaceful religion. 31 percent say mainstream Islam encourages violence against non-Muslims. In reciting the same numbers online , however, ABC News polling chief Gary Langer added a crucial fact which undermines the implication that negative views of Islam are growing: Just 54 percent call Islam a peaceful religion, while a substantial minority, 31 percent, thinks mainstream Islam encourages violence against non-Muslims. This view has held steady since 2003 , after doubling from 2002. From the WSJ’s online “Best of the Web Today” for September 8 , a perceptive take from James Taranto: …Anti-Muslim bigotry is a problem, but it is only exacerbated by the media’s tendency to exaggerate and sensationalize it – and by the adversarial and snobbish attitude many journalists and some politicians have adopted toward the vast majority of Americans, who are not bigoted and who see the Ground Zero mosque as an affront. The obnoxious pastor and the obnoxious media have a confluence of interests here. It is no credit to the latter that their behavior has been no worse than that of the former. Sawyer set up Moran’s September 8 story: The chorus of voices grew louder today denouncing that Florida pastor who plans to burn the Qur’an on Saturday, the anniversary of 9/11. And, as we told you last night, Terry Jones’ church has only a couple of dozen members, but tonight, this is the news: Not only is Billy Graham’s son Franklin trying to reach out to him, so is Sarah Palin. And, we have a new poll showing what Americans really think and know about Islam. Here’s Terry Moran. …. TERRY MORAN: Late today, Sarah Palin tweeted her opposition, writing: “Please stand down.” And long-time televangelist Pat Robertson blasted Pastor Jones this morning. PAT ROBERTSON: Imagine a pastor that is so egotistical that he would sacrifice the lives of missionaries and soldiers to go forward with something. This is so stupid. CBS Evening News, September 8: After Couric’s tease quoted above (“Tonight, despite condemnation from the Vatican and a personal plea from Muslims, that Christian minister in Florida is going ahead with plans to burn copies of the Qur’an”), she related in her opening: “And the Vatican said quote, “This act would only call for new hate and violence.’”

CBS to Black Beck Rally Attendees: ‘I’m Noticing that There Aren’t a Lot of Minorities Here Today’

CBS and the rest of the MSM have decided the Tea Party movement is racist and hostile to non-whites, and it’s a mantra they’re going to illustrate whenever they see an opportunity. Reporter Nancy Cordes saw a “nearly all-white crowd” at Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally in Washington, DC, as she (at least an off-camera female voice) demanded of two black women who weren’t afraid to attend: “I’m noticing that there aren’t a lot of minorities here today. Why do you think that is?” One of the women shot back: “They’re probably over there with Al Sharpton.” In her story for Saturday’s CBS Evening News, Cordes had a very specific attendee number: “According to a tally commissioned by CBS News, roughly 87,000 people gathered here at this event today, thronging both sides of the reflecting pool, stretching all the way to the World War II memorial. That’s the largest gathering here on the mall since President Obama was inaugurated.” NBC anchor Lester Holt was more generous with his crowd guesstimate (“tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands”) before he described the Beck rally as “steeped in patriotism, rooted in the nation’s cultural divide and greeted by suspicion.” Holt opened the August 28 NBC Nightly News: Good evening. Tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of people from all over the country gathered at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington today for a rally steeped in patriotism, rooted in the nation’s cultural divide and greeted by suspicion. It was organized by provocative conservative talk show host Glenn Beck who was joined on stage by Sarah Palin. And if that wasn’t enough to trigger reaction from activists on the left, the timing and place of the rally certainly was – the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech delivered from those same steps 47 years ago today. Flashback to April: “ White NBC Reporter Confronts Black Man at Tea Party Rally: ‘Have You Ever Felt Uncomfortable? ‘” Back to the CBS Evening News and Cordes, a little of what led into the exchange quoted above: NANCY CORDES: Beck, who is a converted Mormon, likes to call himself a clown, but today he played the role of ring-master, preaching racial tolerance to the nearly all-white crowd. A change in tone from the Fox News host who notoriously called President Obama [Beck: “a racist.”] CORDES (or at least a female voice) TO TWO BLACK WOMEN: I’m noticing that there aren’t a lot of minorities here today. Why do you think that is? WOMAN: They’re probably over there with Al Sharpton. (There was no World News on ABC on Saturday night, at least in the EDT and CDT zones, because of the Little League World Series Texas v Hawaii playoff game. Hawaii won.)
