Anne Frank Tree Collapses in Storm

A giant chestnut tree that comforted Anne Frank as she hid from the Nazis in an Amsterdam attic has collapsed during a rain storm. No one was hurt when the 150-year-old tree fell across a fence at the Anne Frank House. The building she hid in for over two years during the Second World War has since been turned into a museum in the Dutch capital. The tree was one of the few signs of nature Anne could she see as she hid from the Nazis. It is mentioned in her diary, which became a worldwide best-seller after her death in a concentration camp in 1945. “Our chestnut tree is in full blossom. It is covered with leaves and is even more beautiful than last year,” she wrote in May 1944, not long before she was betrayed to the Nazis. The tree had developed fungus and was set to be felled in 2007 due to concerns for the safety of the thousands of tourists who visit Anne Frank's house each year. But officials and conservationists later agreed to secure it with a steel frame to prolong its life and saplings were planted last year in an Amsterdam park and other cities around the world. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Anne-Frank-Giant-Chesnut-Tree-That-C… added by: SarahAna

Frank Neuschaefer to Return For The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose Special

The shocking betrayal of Ali Fedotowsky by Frank Neuschaefer wasn’t the last you’ll see of him on The Bachelorette: He’s coming to the After The Final Rose special. That airs after the season finale August 2 and features interviews with Ali and the last man standing – if there is one – and usually the runner-up or runners-up. Frank, who was one of the final three, left the show on this week’s episode after confessing to Ali that he still had feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Caruso. Don’t get the wrong idea. Frank does not appear on the finale itself, and The Bachelorette spoilers we’ve read don’t suggest any kind of dramatic return. His After The Final Rose visit will just be to talk about what happened. An aspiring screenwriter, Frank has been criticized for joining the show “for the wrong reasons.” But sources close to Frank say it really was to fall in love. “If he does [go on the special], it won’t be for fame but to stick up for his name,” a fellow Bachelorette contestant said. “He is a nice, level-headed guy.” While Frank’s last-minute departure may paint him as a villain to some fans, he went into the situation trying to do the right thing for all parties involved. “I think he truly was falling in love with her, but he had unfinished thoughts about his ex,” said the source. “I believe he made a mature decision to see her.” In Frank’s defense, it’s also easy to see the scenario floated in some circles that he wanted to leave earlier, but was coerced into the dramatic exit by ABC. He and Nicole are also still together , so maybe his decision was the right one? Or maybe they planned this whole stunt all along … who are we to say? We want to know what YOU say about who Ali should pick now:

The Bachelorette Recap: Frank Neuschaefer Dumps Ali in Tahiti For Mediocre Girl Back Home

Whether it was the producers’ idea, him writing himself into his own screenplay or prompted by genuine emotions, Frank Neuschaefer’s move last night was ballsy. Dumping Ali Fedotowsky for his ex-girlfriend this late in the game? That stings. Far worse than the antics of Justin “Rated R” Rego, who was far more transparent. Frank was awkward. He was sad. He confused the hell out of us. And he broke Ali’s heart. Love it or hate it, this was the watershed moment of the season so far. Oh yeah, and two guys were also there vying for her heart (and no one else’s). THG breaks down Monday’s penultimate episode of The Bachelorette below … Frank hasn’t been frank with Ali all along . It’s really odd how much ABC gives away in previews, not just before the episode airs, but for what’s “COMING UP” during the episode. Not everyone reads The Bachelorette spoilers , ABC. We certainly do, but not everyone. Minus 5 . Let’s delve right into Frank. He’s been obsessed with Ali all season, yet loved this Nicole Caruso girl so much that he chose her after one cheesy heart-to-heart, then flew all the way to Tahiti to break the news? This makes no sense, Minus 14 . Nicole says had no idea one person could complete another. Has she never seen Jerry Maguire? Eh, she looks like she’s about 19, so maybe not. Anyway, Minus 3 . Ali is way cuter and seems a lot cooler than Nicole. Just saying. Plus 5 . Not sure if they just need to kill time and stretch this filler into a two-hour show, but the gratuitous Ali bikini shots are off the hook this week. We’ll take it. Plus 7 . The majesty of Tahitian scenery soon gives way to despair, seeing as we do not make enough money from these Bachelorette reviews to ever go there. Minus 8 . Ooh, a helicopter ride! That’s a new one, Bachelorette! Minus 4 . Ali wears sexy lingerie to dinner with Roberto Martinez . Someone is a little boy crazy … not that we blame her. Despite sweating profusely, he’s a hunk! Plus 9 . Why do they always say the fantasy suite card is from Chris Harrison? Just so we’ll laugh and point it out here, while praising the venerable host-pimp? Plus 8. Will Ali Fedotowsky choose Chris Lambton or Roberto Martinez? Roberto has to be the frontrunner heading into the August 2 finale, given his obvious chemistry with Ali. Much of their date could be Cinemax material. Plus 5 . Wait, Chris’ mom died? Did we miss that? Minus 6 . Chris’ date with Ali involves cruising around on a giant boat, playing in the water and finding pearls in oysters. Cute, but too many obvious jokes missed. Wash . At dinner on a private island, he sweetly confesses that he can see himself with Ali. Roberto is her infatuation, but Chris might be an even better pick. Plus 12 . Chris says that his mom is looking down smiling right now. Minus 5 for the overkill, and Minus 14 more for the image of his late mom looking down smiling at her first born about to put it to a hot girl also dating someone else on a reality show. After arriving in Tahiti for reasons known, Frank reflects: “I’m confident in the decision I made, but to hurt Ali and potentially break her heart is going to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do … so I wanna talk to Chris Harrison. ” Plus 50 . Eventually, he “confesses” to Ali and she seems genuinely miserable. Minus 19 , because it’s very possible Frank and Nicole “broke up” so he could go on the show, knowing full well he could play this card for dramatic effect. Minus 2 more for the annoying way he says “Nicole.” They have the rose ceremony anyway, an unnecessary but nice reminder for Ali that the two remaining guys are light years better than Frank anyway. Plus 7 . TOTAL: +23. SEASON: +166 . Who should Ali Fedotowsky choose?

Ali Fedotowsky: Betrayed By Frank Neuschaefer!

Ali Fedotowsky has already been betrayed on The Bachelorette this season. Fortunately, Rated R (Justin Rego) and his cheating ways were exposed relatively early. Unfortunately, she won’t be so lucky with Frank Neuschaefer, one of her final three … or the producers of the ABC reality series, who set her up for heartbreak. That’s according to In Touch Weekly, yes. But there’s something to it. By now, whether you read The Bachelorette spoilers or not, you’ve likely seen previews for next week and know that Frank is about to drop a bomb on our girl. That bomb is his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Caruso, with whom he’s reunited after blatantly ditching Ali despite wooing her all these weeks … it’s simply heartbreaking. Even more so? That the producers were in on it. Monday on The Bachelorette, Frank Neuschaefer will break Ali’s heart/ According to reports, Frank didn’t exactly pull a Justin and use Ali Fedotowsky for publicity. He really liked her, but genuinely loved Nicole and wanted to reconcile. “Frank didn’t think they would fall in love,” a source tells In Touch . “He followed his heart and did what was best for him – and ultimately what’s best for Ali, too.” He considered Ali his girlfriend, says a source, and when producers refused to let him break up with Ali properly, they set the star up for even more heartbreak. “They betrayed her,” says the source. How? That remains to be seen. But months after that fateful night in Tahiti, Frank and Nicole were seen on a romantic date in Chicago. Follow the jump to see: Ali who? Frank puts the moves on Nicole Caruso . Who should Ali choose on The Bachelorette?

The Bachelorette Recap: Chris Lambton Melts Our Hearts, Ali Fedotowsky Plays Ty-Breaker

Only four men remain on The Bachelorette now. Maybe you noticed. Last night’s episode of the reality TV saga was dominated by a Jake and Vienna interview for the ages, making everything else seem boring and irrelevant. Follow the above link for an entire recap devoted to that nonsense. Below, we give Ali Fedotowsky and crew their due as her quest for love hits Portugal. Here’s THG’s patented plus-minus rundown of the episode … Ali and Roberto Martinez take pictures of each other, hear music on the street and start dancing right there. SO romantic and NOT AT ALL staged. Minus 4 . They make nice conversation about Roberto’s family, the hunk says really nice things to Ali, they kiss and we think he’s the favorite, hands down. Plus 8 . Who will The Bachelorette star choose? Ty and Frank go on the awkward two-on-one date ever. Minus 5 , ’cause they just bitch about the format the whole time. You’re on The Bachelorette , guys. Frank lives with his parents. Minus 4, but Ty does him one better by saying he’s “tickled” Ali has a plan and a career of her own. Sexist much? Minus 20 . Kirk’s date takes place in a big castle, at which he talks about his illness and how it made him reexamine his life. Again with the mold poisoning. Plus 9 . Minus 12 , or approximately one point for each use of the word “hometown.” Like saying “wrong reasons” ad nauseam, guess they stick to the script. Fortunately, Chris Lambton not only refers to his town’s name (Dennis, Mass.), he knocks it out of the park on his date. Moped skills aside. Plus 13 . Chris and Roberto can do no wrong. The narrative of Chris’ mom’s death is a wee bit overblown, but he seems so genuinely sweet about it, how can you not give the guy another Plus 11 ? Minus 7 for blurring out Chris’ Boston Red Sox shirt. If you’re up on The Bachelorette spoilers , you knew that Ty or Kirk was going home at the rose ceremony, and it was Ty in a bit of a surprise. Plus 5 . Again, see the link above for the full rundown, but for all her flaws, sad Vienna Girardi came off 100 times better than pompous Jake Pavelka. Wash . How funny was next week’s preview, considering how much Frank whines about not getting time with Ali, the alleged girl of his dreams?! Minus 15 . TOTAL: -9. SEASON: +130 . Roses : Chris, Roberto, Frank and Kirk. Out : Ty.
