WTF is wrong with people? Mother’s Day was marred for crowds in New Orleans this weekend after a parade for the occasion was shattered by gun violence . Via NOLA.com reports : A Mother’s Day second-line shooting on Frenchmen Street in the 7th Ward, on Sunday about 1:45 p.m., left 19 people injured, according to the latest NOPD numbers. Earlier Sunday afternoon, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said that about 12 people had been injured, but the toll later grew to 19, with the NOPD explaining that some victims initially hadn’t reported being injured and more people continue to come forward. Police said 10 adult men, seven adult women, a 10-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were struck by bullets. Both of the 10-year-old victims had graze wounds to the body and were in good condition. A man and a woman were reported to be in surgery Sunday evening. The shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Frenchmen Street at the intersection of North Villere Street. Immediately after the shooting police reported seeing three suspects running from the scene. One suspect was seen running on Frenchman toward North Claiborne, police said. NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden said many of the victims were grazed, some by bullets that ricocheted. “At this point, there are no fatalities, and most of the wounds are not life-threatening,” she said in an email. “But all medical conditions are not known at this time as victims were rushed to nearby hospitals,” Braden continued. “Detectives are conducting interviews, retrieving any surveillance video in the area and, of course, collecting all evidence. This is an extremely unusual occurrence, and we’re confident that we will make swift arrests.” In a separate report an FBI spokeswoman made sure to be clear this incident was not the work of terrorists: Mary Beth Romig, a spokeswoman for the FBI in New Orleans, said federal investigators have no indication that the shooting was an act of terrorism. ‘‘It’s strictly an act of street violence in New Orleans,’’ she said. An explosion was reported near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday. Reuters is reporting that the headquarters of the annual event has been locked down after an explosion was reported near the finish line this afternoon. The following images have been posted on Twitter, showing the scene: According the Boston Globe , there were dozens injured, although there are conflicting reports regarding the number and scale of injuries at this time. There is also some uncertainty as to whether there were multiple explosions. Story developing … UPDATE : Two blasts happened at about 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Boylston and Exeter streets, according to CNN and local news reports. The first blast happened across from the Lenox Hotel; a second blast came about 15 seconds later. The race was stopped and the area is being evacuated. The impact of the explosions could reportedly be felt blocks away. Store fronts have been blown out, and dozens of injuries reported, some of them severe. Witnesses said several victims lost limbs in the explosions. Many of those injured appeared to be spectators gathered for the 117th running of the race on Patriots Day, a statewide holiday in Massachusetts. I’d love to see a graphic representation of the intersection of two subsets: moviegoers who saw The Avengers , directed by Joss Whedon , and those who plan to see his interpretation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing . I wouldn’t be surprised if there was no intersection at all, just one big circle ( The Avengers ) and one little circle ( Much Ado ) sitting next to each other, but I give Whedon credit for taking time out of his blockbuster career — 12 days, to be exact — to make this labor of love and present the Bard in a contemporary setting. And yet, based on a handful of viewings of this trailer, Much Ado looks self-conscious and pretentious. Shot in black-and-white and — at least on this trailer — adorned with a jazzy soundtrack, the movie looks like Whedon’s interpretation of a Woody Allen film, and a lot of the actors do their scenes with a look in their eyes that says, I’m doin’ Shakespeare, bitches! The cast includes The Cabin In The Woods star Amy Acker as Beatrice, Alexis Denisof as Benedick, late S.H.I.E.L.D. Life imitates ‘The Wire’ SMH Teenagers Stabbed And Steelers Fan Knocked Out At Baltimore Ravens Parade Via Baltimore Sun Three teens were stabbed, one fatally, in downtown Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, near the route of the parade celebrating the Ravens Super Bowl victory, police said. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the stabbing occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Howard and West Fayette Streets. He said one of the three victims, a juvenile, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed into surgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, where the youth died. The other two stabbing victims were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. One was listed in critical condition; the other was expected to live, police said. Guglielmi said the victims are 15- and 16-year-olds, but police have not released their identities. He said he knew of no motive for the stabbing and were searching for suspects. Large crowds had gathered downtown around the time of the stabbing for a parade starting at City Hall and ending at M&T Bank Stadium to celebrate the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory. “This was an isolated incident,” Guglielmi said. “The victims knew their attackers. We believe this stemmed from a dispute. At this point, there is no information to suggest that these individuals were involved or came here for the Ravens victory celebration. We’re still trying to parse out all of those details.” In an unrelated story, Black Sports Online reports that a man wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey was knocked out by an unidentified Ravens fan for reppin’ the wrong set during the parade. Catalina Clouser, a 19-year-old Phoenix, Ariz., woman, was arrested this weekend for driving away with her baby … ON TOP OF THE CAR. Police claim she put her five-week-old baby on top of her car in his car seat and drove off, apparently forgetting he was there, and not even noticing when the seat fell off of the vehicle and landed in an intersection, according to police. All of a sudden Tanning Mom looks like parent of the year. Woman Drives Away With Baby on Roof Neighbors discovered the baby on the road , still strapped to his safety seat, which was lying on its side. Luckily, the baby was completely unhurt. Clouser, who allegedly had been smoking marijuana, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence and child abuse. “We believe that whatever she was under the influence of was the deciding factor in what did happen to this child and we’re extremely happy that for the baby this turned out well and the baby is going to be OK,” a police spokesman said. Clauser, her boyfriend and their friends had been smoking marijuana earlier in the evening at a nearby park, but the boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI when they went to a store – with the baby in the car – to get beer. Upset that her BF was arrested, Clauser went to a pal’s home to smoke more pot. Clauser left around midnight and apparently put the sleeping baby on the roof of the car and drove off, forgetting he was there, and continued driving. Leilani Gerlach, a homeowner who lives across from the intersection, notified police after she saw the baby in the car seat on the street. “We were both rolling our eyes in astonishment that someone could forget their baby,” Gerlach said. “The car seat was turned to the side so anyone passing by wouldn’t be able to tell there was an actual baby inside. Thank god they stopped.” After police arrived, two people walked up and told them the baby was Clausen’s. As the officers talked to the two, who identified themselves as friends of Clausen and her boyfriend, the young mother drove up, police said. “[She] had gotten into her car, set the baby seat on top of the car and forgot that the child was up there. It does not appear that immediately she realized what happened,” the police source said. “I think that perhaps she got where she was going and realized that she did not have the baby in the car.” “There was damage to the car seat, it was scraped but there was no damage to the child.” The baby is now in custody of Child Protective Services.

By Gil Kaufman John Atterberry Photo: Facebook Longtime music executive John Atterberry died on Monday, just days after being shot in the face and neck during a rampage on the streets of Hollywood by a crazed gunman. Manager and promoter Atterberry, who was a former vice president at Death Row Records and worked with the Spice Girls, Brandy and Jessica Simpson over the years, was sitting in his car on Friday at a major intersection in Los Angeles when a gunman shot him three times. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Atterberry was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead late Monday afternoon. The gunman, identified as 26-year-old Tyler Brehm, began randomly shooting his gun at the intersection on Friday morning, getting off between nine and 20 shots before police killed him. Atterberry was the only person who was seriously injured in the incident. Brehm was shot by police after witnesses alerted two police officers who were working on a nearby movie set. When they arrived, Brehm was walking down the street with his gun in the air, screaming that he wanted to die, before lowering his firearm when cars began to drive by and firing at them. Atterberry, 40, most recently worked at an event promotions company called Gridlock Group, after getting his start working in the promotions department at the fashion lines Cross Colours and Karl Kani and moving on to Death Row, former home to Snoop Dogg, Tupac and Dr. Dre. Afterwards, he started Mergela Records and Consulting, working with producer Rodney Jerkins and comedian Chris Tucker, as well as founding the music publishing company Infusion Music Group, where he worked with the Spice Girls and Simpson.
Eight teens are in custody (7 of which are juveniles) for brutally attacking another teen in South Carolina: All eight suspects are in custody after a brutal attack in Five Points early Monday morning which left the teenage victim in critical condition, according to Columbia police. Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said 19-year-old Thyeem Henrey was charged with second degree assault and battery by mob, common law robbery, and criminal conspiracy. He appeared in court Friday afternoon where the judge set bond at $750,000. That bond does not allow Henrey’s release upon posting only 10%, which is sometimes permitted by the court. At his first court appearance on the latest charges against him, Henrey gave no indication what might have led to Monday morning’s savage assault. But he cried as the frustrations of the victim’s parents boiled over. “I’m having to give you my right to judge whether he deserves freedom or not,” said Strange’s mother Vicki. “That’s hard for me. But since Carter didn’t fight against them eight Sunday, I’m going to fight for him now. I’m going to fight for him until my last breath.” “I pray that you get your life right,” said Strange’s father John. “Find God. If you pray for forgiveness, he will forgive you. I don’t have that in my heart right now. Maybe one day, but not today. The 19-year-old is the only adult in a group of eight being held by Columbia police. The other seven suspects are all juveniles, according to Timmons. Their names cannot be released. She said a 14-year-old, 15-year-old, and 16-year-old were charged with strong arm robbery, second degree assault and battery by a mob, and criminal conspiracy. A 13-year-old and three other 16-year-olds were all charged with criminal conspiracy, according to Timmons. Police Chief Randy Scott said the 18-year-old victim, later identified as Carter Strange, was jogging through a parking lot near the intersection of Blossom Street and Saluda Avenue just after midnight on Monday when the assault happened. “This teenager was minding his own business, trying to make his curfew when he was brutally attacked and robbed,” said Scott. Police said Henrey and the seven juveniles he was with were roaming Five Points, targeting others until they came across strange. In fact, investigators said the group tried unsuccessfully to rob or assault at least four other people. Carter’s family told police the beating was so severe he required emergency surgery to remove a brain clot. He had his second surgery Friday afternoon, which was for facial reconstruction. It’s Carter’s latest step in a long road to recovery. “He did nothing to them,” said Vicki. “They didn’t know him, they didn’t know the kind of person he was, they don’t know the kind of man he’s grown up to be and they don’t know the lives he’s touched. What the hell?? Atlanta Hawks reserve forward Josh Powell was arrested before Saturday night’s game at Philips Arena after police say he repeatedly refused to move his car that was blocking an ambulance. The Riverdale High School graduate was charged with failure to obey an authorized officer directing traffic, failure to yield to emergency equipment and obstruction, Atlanta Police spokesman Curtis Davenport told the AJC. According to police, Powell was attempting to turn onto Park Avenue West from Marietta Street late Saturday afternoon but was unable to do so because of heavy traffic caused by this weekend’s SEC basketball tournament. Powell’s car was blocking the clogged intersection, making it impossible for the ambulance to proceed, Davenport said. “The officer approached Mr. Powell’s vehicle and told him numerous times to go straight through the intersection … [he] refused and was placed under arrest,” Davenport said. Powell, 28, was not in uniform as the Hawks took the court early Saturday evening against the Portland Trail Blazers . The seven-year NBA veteran signed with Atlanta last summer after winning two championship rings as a back-up forward/center for the Los Angeles Lakers. Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche said the organization was made aware charges had been filed against Powell but declined additional comment. Wow. SMH. Was it really even that serious??? Source
