R apper and actor Jaden Smith is on a mission to bring clean water to Flint, Michigan. According to the Detroit Free Press , Smith is using his platform as an avenue for activism and bringing a water filtration system to the city. Jaden Smith's foundation has collaborated with a church to design and engineer a new way to bring cleaner water to Flint, Michigan. https://t.co/N4epKbgIi6 — NBCWashington (@nbcwashington) March 1, 2019 The 20-year-old is leading the effort through his company JUST Goods Inc. The company—which is an eco-friendly natural spring water brand—is joining forces with Flint’s First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church to implement a system called “The Water Box” which can help reduce lead and other toxic chemicals in contaminated water. The Water Boxes are engineered through digital devices. Aside from his passion for the arts, Smith has been a fierce advocate for environmentalism. “I want to have something I can feel good about that I can feel like it’s changing the world. I’m not only being neutral with the world, I’m actually making the world a better place,” he said when asked about his water brand during an interview with Highsnobiety . “That’s when I was like, if I can feel that way, that would be amazing. But then if everybody else could feel that way, that’s a dream come true. I’ve just always wanted to be an advocate of humanity.” The First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church has been dedicated to addressing the water issue in Flint. According to the news outlet, the church has given over 5 million bottles of water to local residents. This isn’t the first time that Smith has led philanthropic efforts in Flint. According to the Huffington Post , last year his company vowed to donate water each month to the city’s schools until the water was safe to drink. Thousands of bottles were donated. Art Project To Highlight Black History And Culture In Los Angeles

A new art project on the West Coast will visually capture the essence of Black history and culture in Los Angeles. Local political officials recently announced that 1.3 miles of Crenshaw Boulevard will be transformed into an artistic space that highlights how African Americans are embedded in the fabric of L.A., the LAist reported. ICYMI, take a look at Destination Crenshaw, an open-air ‘museum’ set to run along the Crenshaw Line https://t.co/R51Y6wqYuP pic.twitter.com/6RTdXDintM — Curbed LA (@CurbedLA) December 21, 2018 Dubbed “Destination Crenshaw” the tribute will be along the Metro’s Crenshaw/LAX line, the news outlet writes. It will feature larger-than-life murals, monuments, outdoor spaces and other elements that will bring stories about the Black experience in Los Angeles to life. Local political leaders believed that it was important to bring the achievements of the Black community in L.A. to the forefront. The city has evolved into a melting pot and they don’t want the contributions of African Americans to be forgotten. “The hope is that [people] understand that L.A., among other things, is quintessentially a Black city,” Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson told the news outlet. “In the same way that it’s a Latino city, in the same way it’s a Jewish city, in the same way that it’s a Japanese city. The stories of black people in this town are central to what this town is, and what it continues to develop into.” Harris-Dawson wanted to find a way to preserve the street art that already exists in Crenshaw, but add more elements to it so that it can serve as a learning tool for visitors and future generations. He also hopes that the buzz surrounding Destination Crenshaw will create an increase in more locally-owned innovative businesses in the area. The renderings for the project—which has been backed by Los Angeles natives Nipsey Hussle and Issa Rae —were revealed this month. The Destination Crenshaw team has already enlisted the help of local artists to contribute their work. The project will break ground in 2019 and is slated to be completed in 2020. Jinger Duggar Ghosts Her Family for Christmas

For those who celebrate and even for many who do not, Christmas is a time to be with your family. The Duggars place a lot of importance on being with family and on their religious beliefs, so this is a major holiday for them. So why, fans wonder, did Jinger and her precious baby spend the most wonderful time of the year as far from her family as she could get? When we say “her family,” of course, we mean from the Duggars. Jinger Duggar did not spend Christmas with Jim Bob, Michelle, or any of her siblings or niblings. She was, however, with husband Jeremy Vuolo and their baby, Felicity. This small but growing family didn’t spend the holidays by themselves, either. Instead, Jinger and Jeremy brought Felicity up north to see Jeremy’s family. In a series of glimpses in Instagram photos and in Instagram Stories, Jinger and Jeremy revealed their family adventure. They traveled from Laredo, Texas all the way to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Needless to say, that is not a short trip. And having a baby with you would make it seem even longer. The good news is that it sounds like Felicity slept for a good portion of the plane ride. Jinger took in and appreciated the rural landscape on the way to the Vuolo grandparents’ house. But the long trip was worth the wait. Jinger captioned this photo: “Grandma time!” Felicity is in the arms of her paternal grandmother. (Quick note, and maybe I’m alone in this, but Mrs. Vuolo does not look old enough to be a grandmother) Jinger and Jeremy didn’t try to hide that they shared the best photos, and worked overtime to get baby Felicity to smile. That’s very normal for any parents. Felicity was also enamored with another member of the family. Here we see Felicity in the arms of her father. Beside them stands Auntie Val — Jeremy’s sister. Little Felicity is young enough that she probably won’t consciously remember much, if any, of this visit. But that does not mean that this is not important. Every new, positive experience broadens a child’s mind and helps a baby’s developing cognition. And these are Felicity’s family — people she’ll know for all of her life. It’s important for her to start developing a relationship with them now, even if it’s only to hear the sound of their voice. Felicity will have no shortage of opportunities to bond with her ever-growing wealth of Duggar cousins. But as much as fans may think of Jinger as a Duggar daughter, Felicity is half Vuolo. Spending time with Jeremy’s family makes a lot of sense. We imagine that Jim Bob and Michelle don’t mind, either. After all, Jim Bob is the one who believes that his daughters are essentially property to be given away to worthy suitors. In his worldview, it makes sense for Jinger to go with her husband on a Christmas trip. As for the Vuolos, they were just happy to see their precious little grandbaby. Who wouldn’t be? Once news spread about her accomplishments in the realm of sports, she became an athlete to watch. She was the first Little League player to grace a national cover of Sports Illustrated , she landed a spot on TIME ’s “25 Most Influential Teens of 2014 List,” and she secured a book deal. The world was watching to see what her next move in sports would be. Davis recently inked a letter-of-intent to play at Hampton. She was considering other schools that included Coppin State University, Southern University, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Pennsylvania, and Bethune-Cookman University, but thought that Hampton would be a good fit. Angela Nicholson —the head softball coach at Hampton—says she had no clue that Davis wanted to play softball in college until she received an email from her a few months ago. “She sent me an email, and I invited her to camp. She came to camp, and she was phenomenal. That’s how it all started,” she told the news outlet. “Having Mo’ne is great. I know she doesn’t want it to be about her, and neither do we. We want her to have a great experience and be like everybody else.” She will reportedly join the team as a middle infielder. Davis currently attends Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia where she plays softball, basketball, and soccer.
