Jessica Alba took the night off from her fiery culinary adventures to join the rest of the Tribeca Film Festival’s random jurors on awards night. The superb relationship drama-surveillance thriller (really!) Monogamy won the prize for Best New York Narrative; watch for it if/when it comes to a festival/theater near you. Festival Juror Jessica Alba Fails to Burn Down Tribeca

A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get attention down at the Tribeca Film Festival. Jessica Alba thought she’d taken care of business with her recent festival jury appointment , only to see her Killer Inside Me co-star Kate Hudson upstage her with a rumored (and highly secretive, for some reason) boob job. From there, Alba’s strategy might have gotten a little desperate.

REVIEW: Strong Performances, Superb Direction Lift Please Give

Nicole Holofcener has made only four movies in the course of her approximate 15-year directing career, but that could be because each movie is really two in one: There’s the picture right in front of you, the one you actually watch, which can often feel like a clutch of orphan vignettes wandering around in search of some organizing principle. And then there’s the way that shambling mosaic reforms itself in your mind minutes, hours or days afterward. You think you’ve buttoned up the characters’ lives and laid them to rest, only to find yourself making unbidden, random observations about them as you’re fixing a sandwich or flossing your teeth: Why did that character talk to her mother that way, and why did her mother let her? That girl was so lovely — why were her social skills so lame? Two hundred dollars for a pair of jeans? That’s nuts! Holofcener writes, and helps to shape on-screen, characters we often don’t even like, and what do we do? We invite them home with us. Talk about a soft touch.

Scream 4 To Mock Horror Sequels By Being One

Because a new Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t enough to satiate your nostalgic horror needs, here comes Scream 4 . And, if you’re lucky, Scream 5 and Scream 6 . But lest you think this series reboot is just some desperate money grab for Bob Weinstein in the same way the Star Wars prequels were for George Lucas, Scream 4 plans to reinvent the genre… by slavishly sticking to the genre. Just don’t tell director Wes Craven.

REVIEW: Can You Stay Awake Through Nightmare on Elm Street?

The key moment in A Nightmare on Elm Street occurs around the 40-minute mark, not long after Freddy Krueger’s third victim meets his demise. It’s really something, too: A gaggle of lights illuminate cell phone screens around you. Seats groan and bodies rise, silhouettes stalking toward the bathroom. The film’s little-known interactive component has kicked in: A whole audience battles its urge to fall asleep.
