Long-time Republican senator John McCain has died, a source has confirmed to the Associated Press. McCain, who had been battling brain cancer for a number of years, passed away in Arizona. He was 81. McCain, the former Presidential nominee, leaves behind his wife of 37 years Cindy; seven children, including three from his first marriage, to Carol Shepp; and his 106-year-old mother, Roberta McCain. McCain was four days shy of his 82nd birthday. McCain over the years became known as the “Maverick” of Congress and America’s most famous prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. The former Navy pilot with a famous admiral father was shot down over Vietnam and spent 5 1/2 years as a POW in the north, most of that time in a prison sarcastically termed the Hanoi Hilton for the way inmates were treated. He clashed ofter with Donald Trump and ran for President twice, first in 2000 and in 2008, when he won the Republican Nomination, ultimately losing to Barack Obama . Obama released a statement on the passing of McCain, saying, “Few of us have been tested in the ways John once was, or required to show the kind of courage that he did. But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own. At John’s best, he showed us what that means.” OBAMA statement on McCain pic.twitter.com/1uIj7zGraG — Zeke Miller (@ZekeJMiller) August 26, 2018 Join Our Text Club To Get The Latest Music, Entertainment, Contests And Breaking News On Your Phone
Megyn Kelly has put Jane Fonda on blast. There's a sentence we're guessing you didn't expect to read today. But the NBC anchor took a few moments out from her program on Monday to address the quasi feud brewing between her and Fonda, which started a few weeks ago when the veteran actress sat down for an interview with Kelly. Fonda was on hand at the time to promote the film Our Souls at Night – and she did not respond kindly to Kelly bringing up her many plastic surgery procedure on air. “I read that you said you felt you're not proud to admit that you've had work done. Why not?” Kelly asked of Fonda, who responded tersely: “We really want to talk about that now?” The exchange went viral because, well, it was very awkward. And now Kelly has gone on the offensive against Fonda, explaining why she pursued this line of questioning and calling Fonda out. Hard. “When she first complained publicly after the program and repeatedly, I chose to say nothing as my general philosophy is what other people think of me is none of my business,” Kelly opened. “However, Fonda was at it again last week including here on NBC and then again elsewhere, so it's time to address the 'poor me' routine.” Oh, yes, Kelly held nothing back in this mini rant. “First, some context,” she explained, prior to adding: “Fonda was on to promote a film about aging. For years she has spoken openly about her joy in giving a cultural face to older women. “Well, the truth is most older women look nothing like Fonda, who is now 80 and if Fonda really wants to have an honest discussion about older women's cultural face, then her plastic surgery is tough to ignore. “Fonda herself knows this. She knows this and that is why, to her credit, she has discussed her cosmetic surgery pretty much everywhere before coming on our show.” The show then aired a handful of clips of Fonda talking about her plastic surgery to various outlets and her reasoning for it. Kelly's general point is that Fonda has opened the plastic surgery door many times and was out of line in making it look like Kelly was out of line for bringing it up. “Apparently, when she came here, however, again to promote her film about aging, I was supposed to discern that this subject was suddenly off-limits,” Kelly continued. “Look, I gave her the chance to empower other women, young and old, on a subject which she purports to know well and she rejected it. That's ok, but I have no regrets about that question, nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate. “After all, this is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage.” From here, Kelly brought up Fonda's comments during the Vietnam War, saying the actress set out to “shame” American troops. She also took Fonda to task for more recently telling the BBC that she was NOT proud of her country because it elected Donald Trump as President . But she is proud of the “resistance.” Seriously, Kelly went deep with this take-down. “So, the moral indignation is a little much,” she concluded of Fonda. “She put her plastic surgery out there. She said she wanted to discuss the plight of older women in America and honestly she has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive.” Watch the full slamming below:
Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee Born Cassius Clay, Muhammed Ali, is said to be the most written about public figure in his lifetime. As the only Heavyweight champion to be crowned three times, Ali made a name for himself in and outside of the boxing ring. He was known for talking smack about his opponents and his strong opposition for the Vietnam War. He died a year ago today, after battling Parkinson’s Disease for over thirty years. “I think maybe Parkinson’s is God’s way of reminding me what is important. It slowed me down and caused me to listen rather than talk,” Ali explained. Gone, but certainly never forgotten, here are a couple of other famed quotes from The Greatest himself: “It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” “Don’t count the days, make the days count.” “I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.” Rest In Peace Oh Great One!
WARNING to all future United Airlines passengers: Expect all upcoming luggage fees to increase by approximately 750%. The company is about to be in need of vast sums of money… At a press conference this afternoon, lawyer Tom Demetrio spoke on behalf of Dr. David Dao, the 69-year old passenger who was violently dragged off a United flight on Sunday night. As most of the free world has likely read all about by now, Dao refused to give up the seat he paid for while traveling from Chicago to Louisville. Because United had overbooked this flight, and no one had accepted the $800 offered to change their travel plans, the airline chose four individuals at random to leave the plane and take a later flight instead. Dao was one of the people selected and asked to get off the plane. He said he had patients to see early Monday morning, however, and remained in his seat. Until, that is, Chicago police officers were called in… tried to talk to Dao reasonably… and then said they were forced to do THIS: United Airlines Passenger Gets Bloodied, Bruised, Forcibly Removed from Seat Because fellow passengers captured the incident on their cellphones, the above footage quickly went viral. As did the associated outrage. It didn’t help his company’s cause when the United CEO offered up one of the lamest apologies of all-time , saying his airline has to “re-accommodate” customers from time to time. That may be the case, Demetrio told the press today, but not in the manner as happened with Dao. “If you’re going to eject a passenger, under no circumstances can it be done with unreasonable force or violence. That’s the law,” he said. “For a long time, airlines – United, in particular – have bullied us. … We want respect and we want dignity. That’s it. Not a big deal.” Dao was taken to a hospital as a result of his one-sided confrontation with the police. Demetrio explained today that his client suffered a “significant concussion, a broken nose and sinus injuries.” He also said Dao, who was released from the hospital last night, lost two front teeth and will be undergoing “reconstructive surgery.” So, naturally, Dao plans on suing United, right? The assumption is that the company will be forced to pay millions of dollars in some kind of settlement. “We’re not ready to sue. We’re doing our due diligence,” Demetrio said, although he was quick to add that a lawsuit basically is coming and ‘will be filed in Cook County.” The attorney further said that Dao had conveyed to him that he was on a boat out of Vietnam after the 1975 fall of Saigon, and “being dragged down the aisle was more horrifying and harrowing than what he experienced in Vietnam.” That’s fantastic. We love it. We’re in awe. We’re not trying to downplay the trauma of what Dao went through on board that plane, but come on. That’s just a tailor made quote to tell the public as a way to pressure United into forking over a whole lot of cash. Dao “has no interest in ever seeing an airplane again” and will likely take a car home to Kentucky, the lawyer said, adding that his client has “absolutely zippo” memory of the incident. The doctor himself previously spoke briefly to a news outlet in Louisville , saying “everything” was hurting. After issuing one tone deaf statement after another, United CEO Oscar Munoz finally came out on Tuesday and made a full-fledged mea culpa. “The truly horrific event that occurred on this flight has elicited many responses from all of us: outrage, anger, disappointment. I share all of those sentiments, and above all: my deepest apologies for what happened,” Munoz said, adding: “Like you, I continue to be disturbed by what happened on this flight and I deeply apologize to the customer forcibly removed and to all the customers aboard. “No one should ever be mistreated this way.” One of Dao’s five children, Crystal, also talked to reporters today. She said the entire family was “horrified and shocked and sickened” by the footage of her dad getting dragged off the flight. Dao’s attorneys, meanwhile, have already filed documents in Chicago, demanding United preserve all evidence and personnel records related to his incident. It sucks Dao had to go through this. But he is about to be a VERY rich man.
Back in 1989, Richard Marx rose to fame by singing that he’ll be “right here waiting for you.” But we had no idea that the artist was portending an event to come, directing this seemingly romantic lyric at an unruly passenger on board a Korean Air flight. Confused? Allow us to explain… Over the weekend, Marx and wife Daisy Fuentes were flying from Vietnam to South Korea when a drunk passenger became violent and actually started attacking those around him His victims included both flight attendants and other passengers. As detailed on Fuentes’ Instagram account, the singer wasted no time, jumping in diffuse the scary situation, which the staff seemed both too overwhelmed and confused to handle. “On our flight from Hanoi to Seoul a guy sitting in the next row from us got crazy & started attacking the flight attendants & passengers. When he started pushing the female staff and pulling them by the hair @therichardmarx was the first to help subdue him,” Fuentes wrote as a caption to the following photo. It actually depicts Marx in action, along with those on board who apparently decided to snap pictures instead of offer any assistance. As you can see, a flight attendant is pointing a Taser gun at the passenger in one photo, while Marx is holding him down in another. There’s also an image of Marx holding white rope, presumably to tie up the inebriated man. Added Fuentes, a former MTV VJ: “This went on for FOUR hrs. I feel horrible for the abuse the staff had to endure but no one was prepared for this. They never fully got control of him. “They didn’t know how to use the taser & they didn’t know how to secure the rope around him (he got loose from their rope restraints 3 times).” Marx later took to Twitter in order to give fans an update, and also to criticize the training of the Korean Air employees on board. “Daisy and I are home safe and sound,” he wrote, shrugging off his actions and adding: “No big “hero” move at all. Just did what I would hope anyone would do in same situation. Tnx 4 concern.” He then elaborated on Facebook, expounding on what happened and saying flight attendants were “ill-equipped” to deal with this kind of situation: Pretty crazy, huh? Not what happened on board the airplane. That’s not all that surprising. People get drunk all the time on flights, it’s just surprising this time it was a celebrity coming to the rescue instead of getting kicked off (see below). But Richard Marx is married to Daisy Fuentes?!? We had no idea. Well done, man! As for those aforementioned drunken and/or unruly airplane passengers? These famous people can relate to the dude Marx had to hold down… View Slideshow: 14 Celebs Who Have Been Kicked Off Planes
Just as Teen Mom OG airs its finale tonight, Teen Mom 2 is almost back and we cannot wait to see what happens next for the second fab four. Based on the lack of information about the next season, it looked like we could be in for a long wait before its return, but the premiere is January 2! What can fans of the MTV smash look forward to the day after New Year's for Kailyn Lowry, Jenelle Evans, Leah Messer and Chelsea Houska? In the trailer (below), we get our first look at major events we've heard about over the past couple of months online and on social media. Perhaps the most notable milestone of them all? Chelsea Houska confirms to her family that she's pregnant in a heartwarming scene. It's the news we've already known for quite some time – Chelsea and Cole De Boer are expecting a boy – but it's special just the same. Jenelle Evans' mother, meanwhile, less than impressed about the way she found out about her daughter's latest pregnancy (her third). “You do not want to give me my son back so I do not want to film with you ever again in my f–king life,” she screamed at her mother. “If I get custody then you will have limited visitation!” Barbara responds, later learning of Jenelle's pregnancy via a police report. Touching. Elsewhere, Javi Marroquin delivers an epic diss to his estranged wife Kailyn Lowry, telling the star, “You never think about anyone else.” “You don’t think about me, you don’t think about your two boys. You’re going to open your legs to some guy that’s not a big f–king deal?” Yikes. Finally, Leah Messer seems to be improving after her rehab stint for stress and depression, but Ali‘s medical issues are devastating. “Knowing there is something wrong with this baby that I love so much,” she said of her daughter, who suffers from muscular dystrophy. Needless to say, we'll have plenty of reasons to watch Teen Mom 2 online or on television come 2017 based on this teaser …
No, really, people: Prince William supports his brother. A few weeks ago, Prince Harry took the very unusual step of releasing a statement through Kensington Palace that confirmed his relationship with Suits actress Meghan Markle . It took the public to task and asked that people please show some respect by, at the very least , not threatening Markle’s life over the Internet. In the wake of this statement, rumors started to swirl that William did not support either its release; the romance between his brother and the Suits star in general; or both. And while anonymous sources had tried to quiet talk of a sibling rivalry , it has taken a second statement from The Royal Family to finally put this alleged beef to rest. Via a Kensington Palace press spokesman, William said the following on Monday: “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.” Short. Simple. Mostly to the point. Would it have been nice to read something along the lines of “Prince William adores Meghan Markle and tries to watch Suits online whenever he can to keep up with her work and hopes she is soon part of the family?” Sure. But that would have been asking a lot. Harry and Markle are clearly very serious about each other. You almost never see a member of the Royal family acknowledge his or her romance in such a public manner. The stars met this spring in Toronto and saw each other often over the summer, according to various sources, with Markle typically flying overseas to spend time in London. There’s already talk of marriage. Harry released his statement after a flood of harassment and abuse directed at Markle and her family prompted him to break with royal tradition. In the statement, he said he feared for her safety. “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm,” the statement from Kensington Palace read. It continued: “The past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment…” “He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game.’ He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.” Amen, Harry. And amen, William. Way to stick up for your (hot!!!!) brother. Khalilah Ali Offers To Help Colin Kaepernick Muhammad’s second wife — the one who still harbors quite a bit of bitterness over his constant cheating 50 years later — is speaking out on Colin Kaepernick’s decision to use his position as a star athlete to make a statement for the treatment of African Americans in the US. She was with Muhammad Ali when he Surprisingly, she isn’t a fan. Via TMZsports : Muhammad Ali’s ex-wife says Colin Kaepernick needs to apologize for his National Anthem protest … saying it’s “not heroic” and he should “get off his high horse.” TMZ Sports spoke with Khalilah Camacho Ali — who was married to the boxer from 1967 to 1976 — and says she was his adviser for his biggest protest … refusing to fight in the Vietnam war. “What he’s doing right now is not heroic,” Khalilah says … “I would love to meet with him or talk to him on the phone to help share his message in a better way.” “I helped Muhammad decide whether he was going to the army or going to jail. He listened to my every word. You see the impact that had on our nation? Colin could absolutely have the same impact if he made the right decisions to really make a difference.” Apparently, Khlalilah feels like this makes her an expert on protests, and Colin needs to ring her up to learn a thing or two about how to do this right. “The first thing I would do is ask him about his stance on humanity … what exactly is he trying to improve and how is he going to make that happen? Next, I’d have him make a retraction for his actions against the American flag. He needs to apologize.” “I will help him meet the groups that will fight with him, donate to charities of all people — not just minorities — because we cannot single anyone out. If he wants isolation to end, he needs to prove that he cares about all people, and not just his people.” “If he is willing to get off his high horse and humble himself, we could do a lot of good together.” Ummm…okay lady. Muhammad Ali said he wouldn’t fight for a nation that treated BLACK PEOPLE the way it did…but nowadays, it’s not just about Black people, but all people? We respect our elders, but maybe Ms. Ali should sit this one out. Colin seems to have his own message and how he chooses to deliver it under control… Continue reading →
The 2016 MTV VMAs were a bit weird. We didn't have a host, for example, and it resulted in a clunky program that felt thrown together. There's also a good chance Key & Peele ruined their careers forever with that half-assed opening segment. That said, there were a lot of memorable moments during the MTV extravaganza. To wit… 1. Kanye Said WHAT?!? He referenced Amber Rose. And Taylor Swift. And Ray J! Click above to see what we mean. 2. It’s Britney, Bitch! Britney returned to the VMA stage and it was a delight. She may have been down, but she’s finally back. As always, she lip synced her way through her performance, but with such an energetic dance routine, it’s kind of obvious why. Who would have thought Britney would ever return to the VMA stage? Not us. 3. Love for Rihanna? Drake went all out in his glowing speech about Rihanna when presenting her with an award. “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22-years-old,” Drake admitted, before leaning in for a kiss. Rihanna looked super shy and the two of them hugged it out. 4. Ryan Lochte’s Apology Jimmy Fallon has always been great when he acts like a celebrity. You can only imagine his delight when he got to act as Ryan Lochte. It was full of zingers. Michael Phelps even enjoyed it. His best moment was when he addressed which video was best. “I couldn’t tell you even if there was a gun to my head.” 5. Rihanna’s Long Ass Show Rihanna fans were treated to four performances from the superstar. Four is a bit much, but they were all very great performances and she didn’t stop to cry half way through. Who knew Rihanna would essentially perform her current tour at the VMAs? 6. Ariana & Nicki’s Workout Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj performed their new song at the VMAs. It was pretty crazy, but did they really need to turn it all into a workout? There is such a thing as too far and these two most definitely went there. View Slideshow
