Anthony Weiner Released From Prison; Disgraced Congressman Checks Into Halfway House

With all the political scandals of the past two years, it’s easy to forget about the strange saga of Anthony Weiner. Fortunately, if you’ve forgotten the details, Weiner’s scarily appropriate surname is probably enough to jog your memory. In 2011, the Democratic congressman from New York was a political star on the rise. That same year, however, he found himself involved in a bizarre scandal that attracted intense interest from late night hosts and pun-loving headline writers alike. Weiner accidentally tweeted a photo of his penis that he intended to send to a woman he had been flirting with online. The whole thing might not have been such a big deal, were it not for the fact that Weiner is married to Huma Abedin , an advisor to Hillary Clinton and another rising star for the Dems. Also not helping his situation is the fact that Weiner not only continued with his deviant behavior but got more extreme as the years went on. Weiner stepped down from Congress following his first sexting scandal, but he returned to politics in 2013 to run for mayor of New York City . Weiner’s second scandal introduced the world to Carlos Danger (his alias) and Sydney Leathers, a recipient of explicit texts from Weiner. Obviously, that derailed his mayoral campaign, but it was the third sexting scandal that sent Weiner to prison . In 2017, The Daily Mail broke the news that Weiner was caught sexting a 15-year-old North Carolina resident. Weiner was sentenced to 21 months behind bars for his crimes. He was released today with no advance notice, six months ahead of schedule. Weiner was initially scheduled to be released in August of 2019, but he was granted an early release on the basis of good behavior. For now, Weiner will be residing in a halfway house in the Bronx. He was spotted today by a New York Post reported as he momentarily stepped outside to pick up food he’d had delivered. Asked for a comment, Weiner stated simply, “Not allowed to talk. I’m sorry, my friend.” It’s probably best for Weiner to keep as low a profile as possible these days.

Racists Run Amerikkka: Republican KKKongressman Steve King Doesn’t Think White Supremacy Is Actually Bad

Source: Bill Clark / Getty Republican Congressman Steve King Makes Racist Remarks Despite America touting itself as “the land of the free and the home of the brave” the idea that there are racist politicians isn’t lost on anyone, at least not anyone with melanin in their skin. That said, its still no less disturbing to hear the people who govern this country spout off racist rhetoric without even the faints veil over it. For example, take these remarks by Republican KKKongressman (Iowa) Steve King to the NYTimes : “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” he was quoted as telling the Times in a story published on Thursday. “Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?” King went on to say: Reflecting on the record number of black people and women in the new Congress, he added: “You could look over there and think the Democratic Party is no country for white men.” We’ve covered KKKongressman King in the past and he’s no lover of Black and brown people let us be the first to tell you. We can’t wait for old people like Steve King to die and rid us of their toxic brand of government.

Tattle-Tailing On Trump: Micheal Cohen Set To Share Private Information & Testify Publicly Before Congress In February

Source: VIEW press / Getty Michael Cohen Set To Testify In Front Of Congress Next Month According to Fox5 Atlanta , Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen , will testify publicly before a House committee next month in a hearing that could serve as the opening case for impeachment, his conflicts of interest and his alleged ties to Russia. The “House Oversight and Reform Committee” announced earlier this week that Cohen will testify before the panel early February. Cohen is a key piece in the investigations by special counsel Robert Mueller. He reportedly can speak on the potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign as well as the federal prosecutors in New York involved in campaign finance violations related to payments to two women who say they had sex with Trump earlier last year. Cohen has previously pleaded guilty in both investigations and was subsequently sentenced to 3 years in prison which many believe is the reason he now wants to testify and “state publicly all he knows.” In a statement released on Thursday, Cohen said he had accepted the invitation “in furtherance of my commitment to cooperate and provide the American people with answers.” Cohen also added: “I look forward to having the privilege of being afforded a platform with which to give a full and credible account of the events which have transpired.” Cohen acknowledged in the Mueller investigation that he wasn’t truthful to Congress by saying negotiations over a Trump Tower in Moscow had ended in January 2016 when they actually continued into that June, well into Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. In New York, he also acknowledged his involvement in the Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal scandals. Cohen testified before the House intelligence panel early in 2017, before his role in the federal investigations was fully known and when Republicans controlled the panel. The GOP-led committee later ended its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, saying there was no evidence of collusion or conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

The book—which is being sold by retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble—was so effective that it was selected to be added to the Library of Congress’ collection of over 39 million books. The story is centered on siblings who are vying to become their school’s next leader and they square off in a debate before their classmates. “I developed the character of Kayla when Nicholas was younger to help teach him expanded vocabulary. After being praised by his first-grade teacher for using the word ‘collaborate’ during his first week of school, I asked Nicholas what he thought about writing a book to help his friends expand their vocabularies,” said Buamah’s mother Danielle in a statement, according to the news outlet. “He thought it was a great idea, as long as one of the main characters could be a male figure, and that’s when he created Kyle.” Buamah wants his book included in school libraries throughout the country. The next installment of his Walking Dictionary series is slated to be released in Summer 2019. He wants to use the series as an avenue to help students develop literacy skills. Buamah has other goals that span outside of the literary world. He hopes to become a mechanical engineer one day. She joined the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory and served as a mathematician during a time where new technological systems were being introduced. She also contributed to groundbreaking studies surrounding different planets. “She participated in a path-breaking, award-winning astronomical study that proved, during the early 1960s, the regularity of Pluto’s motion relative to Neptune,” read a statement released by the Air Force Space Command. “The Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Award pays tribute to the leaders of the early years of the Air Force space program, as well as the subsequent innovators whose vision and perseverance overcame the obstacles of the unknown, those who transformed the cutting edge of technology into operational systems, and those who dedicated their lives to exploring space in support of our national security concerns.” The stories of Black women who have made major contributions to STEM are coming to the forefront, and many of them are being honored for their achievements. Their legacies are inspiring the next generation of Black leaders who are interested in the field. Earlier this year 10-year-old Akosua Haynes , a young Black aspiring astronaut from Chicago, received a huge honor from the Library of Congress after penning a letter to the author of the book that inspired the film Hidden Figures ; detailing how the story motivated her. “I really want her to know how much her book inspired me and how it has really motivated me to push my math skills to a much higher level. I have a little STEM program on Saturdays and I’m trying to make myself more like Katherine Johnson every day,” she said. People Ain’t Isht: GoFundMe For Cheetoh Trump’s Border Wall Reaches Nearly $7 Million

Source: NICHOLAS KAMM / Getty We haven’t heard Donald Trump rant about “building that WALL” for a minute now, but lo and behold, his loyal followers have kept the horrid dream alive. Florida man, Brian Kolfage, started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money online for Trump’s border wall to keep Mexicans from entering the U.S., writing, “It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling. If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall.” Kolfage’s campaign has raised nearly $7 million, with a goal of $1 billion, which is one-fifth of the $5 billion that President Trump has been demanding from Congress. As of Thursday, the fundraiser received contributions from more than 110,000 Trump supporting, racist people. Luckily, Congress hasn’t approved DT’s request for that 5 billi, but his followers are certainly trying to find a way or make one. SMH.

This Is Personal! Hakeem Jeffries Targeted By Ocasio-Cortez

N ew York Democratic Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ’s plan to shake up the party in Congress reportedly involves the ouster of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries from his Brooklyn district in the 2020 primaries. For Ocasio-Cortez, targeting Jeffries is both political and personal. See Also: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Guts Open Sarah Huckabee Sanders And Her Trifling Father The incoming freshman congresswoman has already recruited an African-American woman to challenge Jeffries in the primary election, which is still two years away, an unidentified source told Politico reported. Jeffries, a political rising star who recently won the No. 5 House Democratic leadership position, is the “highest priority” for Ocasio-Cortez. However, her office denied to Politico that she had already recruited a candidate to challenge the congressman. Ocasio-Cortez, who won an upset primary victory in 2018 over incumbent Joe Crowley , is part of a group called the Justice Democrats that wants to replace moderates with progressives. Their main strategy is to defeat incumbents in future primaries. Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is eyeing a new member of House Democratic leadership as a 2020 primary target: Rep. Hakeem Jeffries https://t.co/bfUDcCzb5Y — POLITICO (@politico) December 18, 2018 When the Justice Democrats looked for potential targets, Jeffries’ name ended up at the top of their list. They don’t like that Jeffries, who was first elected to Congress in 2012, accepts considerable money from corporations, and they’re displeased with his close ties with the banking industry and charter school supporters. However, targeting Jeffries goes beyond those reasons for Ocasio-Cortez. “It’s personal for Ocasio. And she’s going to go all out to take him out,” a source told the news outlet. “Ocasio-Cortez is also unhappy that a campaign donation to her from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) was allegedly used in a whisper campaign against Lee before her narrow loss to Jeffries in the recent race for Democratic caucus chair,” Politico explained. But Jeffries is not an easy target. Since coming to Congress, the Brooklyn Democrat has gained a lot of political clout—rising to a post in House leadership after serving just six years. Jeffries, 48, is considered by many to be on track to become the first African-American speaker of the House. Unlike Crowley, he regularly keeps in touch with his constituents. Jeffries, a former corporate lawyer who has a war chest of more than $1 million to defend his seat, was unconcerned by the political threat. “It’s a free country and democracy is a beautiful thing. Spread love; it’s the Brooklyn way,” Jeffries said, quoting rapper Notorious B.I.G. SEE ALSO: Sen. She followed up her post with a series of Instagram messages about how she had to give up her balanced lifestyle when she launched her campaign for Congress. “Before the campaign, I used to practice yoga 3-4x/week, eat nutritiously, read and write for leisure,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “As soon as everything kicked up, that all went out the window. I went from doing yoga and making wild rice and salmon dinners to eating fast food for dinner and falling asleep in my jeans and makeup.” Ocasio-Cortez made it clear that she doesn’t want to pretend to be something she’s not just to hold office. “I believe public servants do a disservice to our communities by pretending to be perfect,” she wrote. “A lot of campaigns are based on telling a ‘superhuman’ story and I respectfully disagree with that tactic…You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be 100% committed.” There you have it. Mia Love Pleads With GOP To Connect With African Americans After Getting Dragged By Trump

Read the original:

B lack Republican Rep. Mia Love of Utah, still licking her wounds after losing a re-election bid to Congress, urged her party to improve its relationship with African Americans after President Trump showed his contempt for her and the Black community through his policies. See Also: Mia Love Whines People Don’t Like Her Because She’s Black, Not Because She Supported A Racist “We have especially failed to bring our message to, and connect with, women and racial minorities. And we have effectively written off cities as Democratic strongholds. Our nation is poorer for it,” she penned in an open letter published in the Washington Post on Wednesday. Black Republican Mia Love Suddenly Realizes Trump Is Trash After Losing Re-Election https://t.co/N3ZHLSBjK1 via @newsone — brandonallison (@brandonkallison) November 26, 2018 Love has been seemingly everywhere recently, on somewhat of an unofficial national tour , talking about how she was mistreated by Trump and Democrats because of her race. She lost her election in a close race for a third term in Congress. It’s unclear what the political future holds for Love, who made history as the first and only Black Republican woman in Congress. Many in the GOP hoped that her early political success would help to bring racial diversity to the party. But the Trump-dominated GOP is an inhospitable place to most African Americans. Trump publicly showed his contempt for Love  the day after the midterms . “Mia Love gave me no love and she lost,” Trump said mocking the congresswoman, naming her among incumbent House members who didn’t shower him with praise and were defeated. “Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia.” Republicans remained silent while Trump defended white supremacist violence in Charlottesville and labeled Haiti and nations in Africa “ shithole countries. ” The GOP also stood by while their leader claimed falsely that his policies improved the lives of Black people. The president’s policies have in fact been detrimental to the Black community. In education, for example, the president has looked for ways to cut funding to public schools. This comes as many Black children attend schools in buildings that should be condemned, like many found in Detroit , and schools that lack the resources that wealthy school districts offer their students. Moreover, rather than reducing bias in schools, Education Secretary  Betsy DeVos  approved new guidance, which took effect in March, that permits investigators in her department to disregard civil rights cases . Love urged the party to change course. “We must listen to their experiences, visit them in their comfort zones and take their priorities to heart. Our policy implementations must be personal — not transactional,” she wrote. But it’s unlikely that Republican leaders are paying attention to her.
