Ariana Grande: Sued For Stealing an Instagram Photo!

These days, with everyone & everything being seen on the internet — you really gotta watch what you’re sharing to the world.   But you all know that.  Ariana Grande should also know that — though it seems she recently slipped up because she is now being sued after sharing images of herself to Instagram … that technically didn’t belong to her?  That’s right — the “Sweetener” singer is in some legal hot water after posting images to her social media page.  Something that she does almost daily. And while 3 million of the pop star’s fans showed the photo lots of love, her legal team wasn’t too impressed.  In court documents obtainted by E! News, a paparazzi photographer Robert Barbera is suing the singer claiming copyright infringement.  According to Robert, Ari publicized photographs on her Instagram page that he captured without licensing.  In addition, the New York based photog claims that she didn’t have his “permission or consent to publish the photographs.”  He is now looking for monetary relief, naturally, from the copyright infringement, attorney fees and costs, falsifying copyright management, statutory damages up to $25,000 for each violation.  In the photos, the Grammy winner is carying a see-through bag with the word “Sweetener” on it as she was exiting a building.  Two of the photos were shared to Grande’s official IG account back in August of 2018, the day her fourth studio album “Sweeterner” was released.  “Happy sweetener day,” she wrote in the caption.  The original post has since been deleted, though an edited version currently remains on her account promoting her merch.  E! has reached out to Ari’s team for comments, but has yet to hear back.  As fans of the “thank u, next singer” are well aware — she is often times very good at communcating with her followers via her social media accounts.  Whether she is opening up about a recent brain scan , or just posing for selfies, the 25-year-old is all about keeping her 154 million followers up-to-date on her life. For the most part, that is.  We will just have to stand by to see if she is willing to open up about her (totally underdanstandable) photo fail with her fellow Arianators. Grande, however, is not the first celeb to be scolded for posting a paparazzi photo to their social media pages.  In January, model Gigi Hadid found herself embroiled in a lawsuit (again!) with a photo agency after posting a picture they had taken of her to her 44 million Insta followers.  Kim Kardashian West, Jennifer Lopez, 50 Cent, and Jessica Simposn have also been targeted by agencies for re-using photos.  Of themselves. Paparazzi members have been suffering (obviously) as the rise of social media has changed the way we look at the rich and famous. Many celebs use the platform to take control of their own images and open up personally with their fans, devaluing the tabloid images. Besides, when did these entertainers give these agencies permission or consent to snap photos of them walking to their car or entering a building?  It seems quite ironic and a tad unfair, but at the end of the day as long as the photos of the public figures are taken in a public place, it is totally legal.  The paparazzi built an industry around capturing candid photos of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but now that’s going away.  So it seems they’re turning to an additional source of revenue — suing those stars for posting their pics to Instagram. What has the world come to, really?   View Slideshow: Ariana Grande DESTROYS Haters Over Disgusting Mac Miller Comments!

R. Kelly Loses Underage Sex Civil Lawsuit Judgment After Skipping Court

Source: Nuccio DiNuzzo / Getty R. Kelly lost a judgment in a civil lawsuit case after failing to appear in court in Chicago this week. The woman who brought the lawsuit claims that the troubled R&B singer engaged in sexual activity with her when she was 16 years of age. The Guardian reports : The woman, who accused Kelly of repeatedly having sex with her when she was 16, filed the case in Chicago in February, a day before Kelly was arrested on 10 charges of sexual abuse. She is one of four accusers – three of whom were under age at the time of the alleged crimes – at the center of the criminal case against Kelly, according to her lawyer, Jeffrey Deutschman. She is identified as “HW” in criminal court filings. A Chicago judge on Tuesday entered a default ruling against Kelly, according to court records, after he did not respond to the lawsuit and missed the hearing. The judge, Moira Johnson, will hear from the woman at a hearing next month before determining how much Kelly should pay in damages. Kelly’s criminal defense attorney, Steve Greenberg, said he was not involved in the civil litigation and declined to comment. According to the report, Kelly and the unnamed woman engaged in sex for over the course of a year. — Photo:

SMH: NYC Professor Says CUNY Illegally Seized & Lost Priceless Black History Documents & $12M Research

Source: georgeclerk / Getty He’s In The Middle Of A Complex Lawsuit With The Institution Of Higher Learning A Black political science professor, who was fired by the City University of New York, is currently tied up in a multi-million dollar federal lawsuit over lost Black history research. According to New York Daily News , Professor Joseph Wilson says decades of lectures, writings, correspondence, books and research, including some that can’t be replaced, was illegally seized by CUNY. The professor says years of research was boxed up and carted away by clueless CUNY security guards without warning in a series of warrant-less raids of his school offices. The drastic actions came after the celebrated professor was accused of enriching himself on the school’s dollar. Over the past several years since the the raids happened, Wilson has been fighting to save his Brooklyn College teaching job. He’s also tried with limited success to track down his items. Some were found tossed into random boxes, others were strewn across school shelves and plastic bags, and other items have completely disappeared. Wilson is seeking unspecified punitive and compensatory damages for his lost work in a lawsuit. He also is demanding CUNY dig up his property or pay him for what was lost. “All I want is justice. What gives people the right, for whatever alleged violations they used to fire me, to trash my history and my intellectual property?” Wilson told the Daily News . “The university has to be held accountable and apologize profusely and profoundly. They made some dastardly errors.” CUNY denies all allegations made against them by Wilson. The school said a neutral arbitrator found Wilson was appropriately terminated due to “serious misconduct” that included taking an additional $100,000 in compensation he wasn’t entitled to over the course of three years. He also allegedly submitted false documents to college officials. “We look forward to a full airing of all of the facts in this case, which clearly show that Mr. Wilson’s claims are without merit,” a spokesman said. “The lawsuit is built on false allegations.” Despite the allegations made by CUNY, Wilson definitely has a strong rep in the academic world. The 67-year-old was a leading expert on the history of Black working class and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first Black union. He’s also enjoyed a long tenured career as a political science professor at Brooklyn College, and he founded the Brooklyn College Center for Diversity and MultiCultural Studies, dedicated to increasing diversity among students, teachers and classroom topics. In 1997, he was also appointed director of the Graduate Center for Worker Education in lower Manhattan. Things took a shift for the downside when the “raid” was carried out at the Worker Educations Center in January 2012. “We were told not to move, that we couldn’t make any phone calls, or leave the office or speak to anyone,” said Wilson. Several months later, the suit says another seizure was carried out on the Brooklyn College campus where Wilson had two offices. Everything was taken, including his letters with poet and fellow teacher Allen Ginsberg , his correspondence with music legend Ray Charles , a transcript and notes on a previously undiscovered speech by Martin Luther King Jr. , and thousands more pages and items. Even his research into a death threat made against Civil Rights and labor organizer A. Philip Randolph (who was mailed a severed human hand) was taken. In addition to all this, Wilson also can’t find the bulk of his 40-year academic research, which independent scholars value at $12 to $14 million. Wilson filed his federal suit in 2017, but the complex case is still underway nearly two years later. For Wilson, the main goal is to recoup as much as his work as possible. He reflected on the experience saying: “I have to tell you, it was traumatic, shattering and world changing what happened, and I never believed that it could and I certainly didn’t think it would happen at CUNY. I amassed an incredible amount of documentary history on Black workers…a treasure trove on some of the great and the unknown civil rights leaders. How it is possible that all this is going to be erased?”

Hold The Mayo: Legendary Sportscaster Warner Wolf Arrested For Ripping “Plantation” Sign Off His Racist Gated Community

Source: Robin Platzer / Getty Warner Wolf Arrested For Defacing Racist Name Of His Gated Community There’s a lot of white folks these days posing as “allies” who at one point enjoyed a little Blackface , but we think we found one that we can believe in. According to TMZ , iconic sportscaster Warner Wolf was arrested at his Naples, Florida (HEY! FINALLY A DECENT HUMAN FROM FLORIDA!) for defacing the sign outside his swanky, private, gated community. Wolf lives in a neighborhood called “Classic Plantation Estates”, a name that he has been lobbying the homeowners association to remove because it’s racist as hell. Heh, good luck convincing white people in Florida that racism is bad. Being that his protest fell on deaf ears, he took matters into his own hands on November 30. Standing in the bougie fountain outside the gates, Wolf chipped away at the “plantation” part until it was removed. Wolf was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal mischief for over $1,000 in damages and was released on $5,000 bond. Salute to a real one.

Worst Behavior: Drake and Odell Beckham Jr. Are Being Sued Over 2018 Nightclub Fight

Source: Vivien Killilea / Getty Drake And Odell Beckham Jr Are Facing Some Legal Trouble Drake and Odell Beckham Jr.  are both involved in yet another another legal battle. According to  TMZ , the two entertainers were slapped with a lawsuit over a physical altercation that went down in West Hollywood. Surveillance footage obtained by the outfit showed the plaintiff, Bennett Sipes, getting attacked on March 24, 2018 while inside the Delilah nightclub. Drake and Odell were among the group of people present and watching the fight go down. Kourtney Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend, Younes Bendjima, was one of the men seen assaulting the plaintiff. According to legal documents, Sipes claims that he got into a verbal confrontation with the defendants while he was inside the venue. He said that as he began leaving the VIP area, he witnessed Drake make a “throat slash” hand gesture, which he took as a threat. The defendant claimed that he then attempted to enter the restroom, but was stopped by a group of men that included both Drake and Odell, along with their respective entourages. Sipes is alleging that Drake and Odell ordered the attack on him, which has allegedly resulted in “extreme mental anguish and physical pain.” He is also suing Bendjima for the physical altercation as well as Delilah nightclub for not providing adequate security inside the venue. While speaking with TMZ , Sipes’s lawyer said that they tried to settle this case out of court, but were ultimately unsuccessful. “We gave the defendant’s months to settle this claim without litigation, but when they failed to be accountable for their actions, we were left with no choice but to file suit to seek justice for our client,” attorney Colin Jones said. Sipes is seeking unspecified damages.

Rihanna Suing Her Dad, Kanye’s Cousin Stealing His Laptop, & More Celebs Who’ve Been Through Some Ugly Family Feuds

Go here to read the rest:

Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN Rihanna has never had the closest relationship with her father, and it looks like things are just heading more downhill for the Fenty family. News broke today that the makeup and music mogul is suing her dad, Ronald Fenty, along with his company called Fenty Entertainment, for exploiting her name for his own gains. According to court docs , Rih claims that her father created the entertainment company and has been soliciting business acting as agents of the singer. Rihanna claims that her father booked a $15 million tour in Latin America and two concerts at the Staples Center in LA and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for $400,000, for which she says she has no involvement in. Rihanna, who has multiple business endeavors under the Fenty name including Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty, and Fenty PUMA, says she sent several cease and desist letters to her father and his partner, but is now suing him as a last resort. Even though suing your father seems harsh, Rihanna isn’t the only celebrity that’s had to handle some tough situations against family members. Here’s a list of some more celebrities that got an unfortunately close look at how money–and a lot of other things–can make family turn into foes. 1. Kanye West VS. His Cousin Kanye West hasn’t been quiet about having to pay his cousin $250,000 for a laptop–in songs alone, he mentions the situation more than once. He first addresses the scenario in “Real Friends,” basically admitting that his cousin extorted him with some adult videos on his laptop. “ I had a cousin that stole my laptop that I was f***in’ bi***es on  Paid that n***a 250 thousand just to get it from him” On the same album, on “No More Parties In LA,” West makes it known that he has no hard feelings toward his cousin even after having to give him a quarter million. “And as far as real friends, tell all my cousins I love ’em  Even the one that stole the laptop, you dirty motherf***er” Well, not exactly no hard feelings. But the love is still there, because they’re family. 2. Jay-Z VS. Solange Not exactly a fight over money, but like Beyonce says, “of course sometimes s**t go down. When it’s a billion dollars on an elevator.” Legend says that Solange was being protective of her sister and came at Jay-Z after his cheating allegations came to light–but of course, that information isn’t going to make it out of the Knowles-Carter household. One thing’s for sure: Bey wasn’t doing anything to stop her sister from throwing some punches, so it’s a pretty good assumption that Solange was stepping up on her sister’s behalf. Hov actually spoke on the infamous elevator fight on the Rap Radar podcast back in 2017, but he didn’t elaborate on the cause. He explained: “We had one disagreement ever. Before and after, we’ve been cool. She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period.” Nobody wins when the family feuds. 3. Kobe Bryant VS. His Parents It’s not surprising that multiple celebs have had to deal with family members trying to capitalize off their success–and Kobe Bryant knows exactly what that is like. The former Lakers star had such a big problem with his parents auctioning off valuable memorabilia they kept at his house that he decided to take them to court. They finally reached a settlement which allowed his parents to auction only six of the items, which was 10% of the original listing–which would still sell for more than $500,000. The items included items such as Kobe’s old school uniforms and replicas of NBA championship rings he had made for his parents as gifts. They were given $450,000 up front for the sale lot from Goldin Auctions, which they then used to buy a house in Las Vegas. After the settlement, both his parents made a public statement as an apology to fans and their son. 4. Frank Ocean VS. His Dad Frank Ocean’s situation with family lawsuits is a little bit different than the rest on the list–because the star is actually the one being sued. The singer’s father, Calvin Cooksey, sued Ocean for libel and is currently seeking $14 million. The whole thing started when the singer told a not-so-flattering story about his father in  a Tumblr post . “I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a f****t as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty. That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t.” Frank’s father denies that this exchange ever happened. “I have never discriminated against anyone transgender or heterosexual or homosexual,” he  wrote to Rolling Stone . “The events that defendant describes on June 21st 2016, that I called a transgender waitress F****T NEVER HAPPENED … The defendant is a scam artist, a fraud and a hypocrite who deceive[d] the LGBT community.” This lawsuit between Frank and his dad is still ongoing. 5. The Kardashians VS. Their Stepmom Even though family feuds are pretty tough to imagine, it’s a lot easier to see how a family would have a poor relationship with one of their step-parents. Ellen Kardashian was married to Robert Kardashian Sr. before his untimely death, so she had personal items belonging to the Kardashian children–which included their personal journals and private photos. The family ended up later suing her for copyright  over these items and wanted $500,000 in damages because they claimed she hid them. The family ended up settling in 2014 while the diaries and photos were returned to the Kardashians.
