Travis Scott Performs On Saturday Night Live Saturday Night Live is back in full swing, and for the second episode of their season, Travis Scott performed a few tracks from his billboard topping record, Astroworld . This was the rapper’s first time appearing on the program, and his two performances included his huge hit “Sicko Mode” along with a “Skeletons/Astrothunder” medley. Travis is always known for bringing the energy to any stage he steps foot on, and Studio 8H was no different. Check out both of the Houston native’s performances below.
You Can’t Stump Travis Scott In A Jamba Juice Taste Test Travis Scott is making his first appearance as the musical guest for Saturday Night Live this weekend, so in preparation for his highly-anticipated performances, it was a no-brainer that the rapper had to stop by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon . If you’re a fan of Travis Scott–or even if you’re not and you’ve just listened to the radio at all within the last couple months–you’re familiar with his track “Sicko Mode.” On the song, the Houston rapper has some lines about Jamba Juice which Fallon brought attention to during the interview. Here are the lyrics in question: “Now it’s 4 AM and I’m back up poppin’ with the crew I just landed in, Chase B mix this pop like Jamba Juice Different colored chains, think my jeweler really sellin’ fruits” Travis admits that his girl Kylie Jenner is a huge fan of the smoothie giant, and turned him onto their drinks once they got together. Here’s where the fun comes in: Jimmy suggests that since Scott claims to be such a big fan of the drinks, they should do a taste test to see how well he really knows them–to which Travis obliges. The host places 3 cups on the table all numbered from 1 to 3. One-by-one, he passes Travis the drinks for him to identify without knowing what’s actually in them. If you didn’t expect the rapper to be good at identifying unknown Jamba Juice flavors, you’re in for a huge surprise. And when the show ups the ante with two separate juice flavors mixed into one concoction, you’ll be even more caught off guard. Travis also teases earlier on in his interview that he may or may not be involved in a couple sketches during his Saturday Night Live stint this weekend, and if this video is any indication, it’s going to be a great time.
Dorothy Hong/Team Epiphany “Insecure” Season 3 Finale Reactions Last night the season three finale of “Insecure” rightfully named “Ghost-Like” aired and the Issa V.S. Nathan drama finally came to a head. After Nathan popped up at Issa’s house after a MONTH STRAIGHT of being M.I.A. he was secretly shooed away by Molly who refused to let him ruin her bestie’s birthday. Later Molly admitted to Issa that she “had her back” and ghostbusted Nathan, but it backfired when Issa angrily stormed away and told Molly she overstepped her boundaries. Nathan apologizes to Issa and tells her that he actually went back to Houston because he was feeling very negatively and just didn’t want to talk to anyone. It sounds a loooot like he was going through a depression but watchers never got a definitive answer either way. Issa: “You ghosted me and left LA because you were in a bad mood?” Nathan: “I wish I had a better explanation.” And while some people applauded “Insecure” for seemingly starting a slow leak on a mental health discussion… One thing Nathan’s storyline did do well today is show the impact that black men’s mental health issues can have on black women. Between him & Lawrence, Issa has dealt w/a lot from men who have depression. Source: The Washington Post / Getty Tonight’s episode of Insecure picks up with Issa having a recurring dream about losing her teeth. According to my Googles that means you feel powerless. That is the perfect analogy for what’s going on tonight because Issa is losing it. No really. It has been a week since Nathan ghosted her and he is all she can think about, despite the fact that she has a block party to plan. She goes off on the deep end stalking him on social media. Spoiler alert, he’s still living his life. Issa, girl… But don’t act like you’ve never done something like that too! Meanwhile, Molly is doing everything she can to ruin any interest Andrew (Nathan’s foine arse Asian friend/roommate) has in her. They end up on a date and surprise, she gives him a hard time, especially when he drops some truth bombs on her. In one instance, he mentions how trifling the situation with Dro was (this was in context to their conversation) and Molly gets pissed because she likes to be delusional and self-sabotage is the name of her game. Andrew is the mirror that Molly desperately needs to peer into but Molly gon’ Molly. What do you expect from a girl who also lies to her therapist? Anyway, she decides to walk out on him. This is a visual presentation of not being able to handle the truth. But for real though, who else wants Andrew to stick around? In other news, Lawrence has decided to get back right with the lord (thotting, bopping and catching chlamydia definitely had a profound effect on him), so he drags Chad to church where he meets a sanctified girl. We’ll see where that goes. Issa wants to see Nathan so bad that she drags Molly to Andrew and Nathan’s house (yup, they’re roommates) despite the fact that Molly has canceled Andrew. They make up some dumb excuse to bring him dessert…in Burbank, which according to Issa, “Isn’t even LA.” Andrew isn’t thrilled to see them (and he’s the only one that’s home) but Issa makes up an excuse to go to the bathroom but she really just finds Nathan’s room and goes through his trash! Chiiiiile… Meanwhile, Molly and Andrew have yet another conversation that doesn’t go well because Molly is a jerk and after a while, she decides to find her nutty friend so they can get out of there. Guess where Issa was at this point? On Nathan’s computer trying to figure out his passwords. In short, Issa thought that Nathan represented moving forward and that they were going to live happily ever after but yeah, nah. The episode wraps with Issa and Lawrence crossing paths again (he told her about a workshop that would be helpful for her business). They’re genuinely in the friend zone now and end up chatting about life over coffee and tea. Issa mentions how anxious she is about her block party and Lawrence reveals that he’s really not that into church. Duh! There’s only one episode left for the season. Why is this show so short? Kimberly Thompson filed a restraining order against Queen Bey alleging the Houston superstar used “dark magic” and “extreme witchcraft” to sexually molest her among other zany charges. The Blast reports : According to very bizarre court documents obtained by The Blast, Kimberly Thompson says she used to work for Beyoncé: “I worked for her as her drummer for her band for 7 years.” She claims that for some reason, Bey has started a campaign of harassment against her, that includes “Extreme witchcraft, Dark magic” and “Magic spells of sexual molestation.” She also claims the “Lemonade” star murdered her kitten. Thompson believes Beyoncé has been taping her phones and controlling her finances. It’s unclear why Thompson believes the singer is allegedly doing all this to her, but she is adamant it all stems from Bey. Yeah. He *Mistakingly* Spills His Thoughts On The Internet A Texas superintendent for the Onalaska Independent School District let the world know how he really feels about Black quarterbacks and now he’s trying to backpedal. According to Chron.com, Lynn Redden — who oversees the Onalaska school district almost 100 miles north of Houston — commented on a Facebook post promoting a Chron.com article about the Houston Texans’ recent game loss. He blamed the Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson for the loss. In the last play of the game, Watson held onto the ball as the final seconds counted down on the clock. He completed a pass to receiver DeAndre Hopkins, hoping he could make a last-second, game-tying field goal, but time had run out by then. In response, Redden commented on the Chron.com post saying, “That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I’ve seen in the NFL. When you need precision decision making you can’t count on a black quarterback.” Oh really? Redden thought he was responding to a private message from a friend when he posted his comment, but nope. It was right in the comment section of the Chron.com post. Redden said he deleted his comment when he realized it wasn’t a direct message. “I totally regret it,” he told Chron.com. But it was too late. A Spring resident, Matt Ericksen, sent Chron.com screenshots of the post on Monday morning. Ericksen said he didn’t have kids in the district, but he wanted to bring attention to what he thought was a blatantly racist comment. “It’s important to make sure horrible words are met with consequences, especially for those in powerful positions with influence,” Ericksen said. Despite all this, Redden still seemed to get away with his anti-Black comments. He told Chron.com that he hasn’t faced any consequences so far, as of Monday afternoon. He said he understands how folks might’ve interpreted his post as racist, but he didn’t intend for it to come off that way. Mhm. Redden said he was referring to statistics when he made the comment about Black quarterbacks. “Over the history of the NFL, they have had limited success,” he said. According to The Washington Post , a 2017 study by University of Colorado researchers show that unconscious racial biases influence views on quarterbacks. There have been two Black quarterbacks who’ve led their team to the Super Bowl, with Russell Wilson being the last one in 2013. According to the University of Colorado study, Black quarterbacks are seen as “talented and strong and their white counterparts as smart and hard-working.” So yea, your regular old racist thinking. Redden says he hopes none of the students in his school district saw his post. “I wish it had never been posted,” he said.
A 20-year-old Black college student has died following what his family said was a fraternity hazing incident in California late last week. Police are investigating the death and are considering hazing as a possible factor. RELATED: Hazing Horrors: More Students Being Beaten, Degraded And Humiliated At High Schools Tyler Hilliard , 20, who would have become a junior with an engineering major at the University of California Riverside, lost his life after pledging Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the young man’s family said. The African-American fraternity has a firm anti-hazing policy, defining hazing as “illegal and a crime in most jurisdictions,” according to its website . “Pledging has been officially abolished as a means of obtaining membership in Alpha Phi Alpha, and pledge ‘lines’ have been officially abolished by the fraternity,” the APA statement also said. Hilliard began pledging the fraternity and participating in activities in July, his family said. The young man was allegedly pushed into eating an entire onion drenched in hot sauce and had to drink a lot of water. He also was allegedly paddled with a cactus, ABC-owned KABC reported. However, things took a tragic turn when after fraternity pledges took part in a strenuous run on Saturday night that ended with him being rushed to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead. UC Riverside released a statement and its condolences. The school has offered support to the young man’s family and counseling services to the campus community. The university is working with its police department to determine the official cause of Hilliard’s death. Police are waiting on the result of an autopsy, according to KABC. “A mother should never have a bury a child like that. He’s only 20. He hasn’t even begun to live his life.
