‘The Hills’ Was ‘Not Scripted,’ Kelly Cutrone Says

‘It’s a whole piss-take on everybody going, ‘Is the show scripted?’ ‘ the PR vet and ‘The City’ star insists of finale. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Garth Bardsley and Matt Harper Kelly Cutrone Photo: MTV News Was it real or fake? That’s the question many fans seem to be considering since credits rolled on “The Hills” for the last time on Tuesday night. The show’s creator, Adam DiVello revealed on Thursday (July 15) that the final moment between Brody and Kristin was staged . But a onetime castmember of the hit reality series, PR maven Kelly Cutrone — now on MTV’s “The City” — insists that everything else on the show is for real. “Well, not really, because the show’s not scripted,” Cutrone told MTV News when asked whether fans should now re-think the show given the finale episode. “It’s just not. I’ve been on the show, it’s not scripted. I think it’s a whole piss-take on everybody going, ‘Is the show scripted? Is it not scripted?’ ” Plus, Cutrone said, it was the best possible way to end a show that is, in fact, a reality show. “I mean the show’s got to end somehow, and if the show’s based in reality, how do you end something that’s real? I mean, what do you do? So the whole [thing] was a flip,” she concluded. “I thought it was funny that it ended with Brody!” “Hills” star Lo Bosworth also reacted to the finale (and its implications) on her blog on Thursday. “Don’t worry. It wasn’t fake,” she promised fans on her new site, the Lo Down. “I have never shot any ‘Hills’ scenes on a stage of any kind. Rest assured, we were simply poking fun in the way that our viewers have done since the show began to air. Our show’s undeniable production value sometimes made the validity of it all questionable, but in truth (and this really is the truth), the relationships with those on the show are real.” Meanwhile, show creator DiVello said he felt the ending paid homage to the city that served as its backdrop for six seasons. “We had come up with a bunch of ideas, and then I had this idea to focus it on the Hollywood sign and really just kind of incorporate Hollywood into the ending of it,” he told us. “Our show’s one that’s based in Hollywood and these kids live, work and play here and never, never really kind of acknowledged in the series that Hollywood is where shows are made.” What’s your take on the “Hills” finale? Stephanie Pratt to Star on The City Next Season?

In what would be the most nonsensical, contrived move yet by MTV, Stephanie Pratt is reportedly joining The City once The Hills goes off the air next week. According to reports, Spencer’s sister has been speaking with producers of The Hills spinoff and is intent on coming aboard Whitney Port’s reality series. The City also stars Elle employees Olivia Palermo and Erin Kaplan, and recently cast Whitney’s BFF Roxy Olin, who coincidentally works with Port now. The Hills is ending its six-season run a week from tonight, but Stephanie Pratt , who joined a few years back, isn’t ready for her 15 minutes to expire. “Now that The Hills is over, Stephanie has been talking about moving to New York for The City,” a source says. “There would be a lot of drama there.” USELESSNESS PERSONIFIED : Is Stephanie Pratt City-bound? The reason? Roxy. “Hex-best friend, Roxy Olin , is a regular on the show, and there’s bad blood because Roxy just dropped Stephanie for Whitney Port.” Stephanie vs. Roxy? Talk about a battle of useless wannabe fashionistas and reality stars. Remember when Steph also worked for Kelly Cutrone briefly? Lauren Conrad fired her. If MTV really decided to transplant Stephanie Pratt, not only would that be really annoying for viewers, but it would destroy any credibility The City has. Eh, bet you they do it.

The City Season Premiere Recap: Whitney Port Rules, Roxy Olin and Olivia Palermo are Useless

The City picked up right where we left off last season with Whitney getting her big chance at New York Fashion Week, and Olivia continuing to be dead weight at Elle. If nothing else, last night’s second season premiere, “Show ‘Em What You Got” was proof positive that this is not The Hills , which is about reality stars doing nothing. While we’ve criticized it often for being boring, at least it knows what it is right now – the story of ambitious young woman attempting to make a career for herself. Here’s THG’s plus-minus recap of The City season premiere … Whitney Port has a show coming up at NYFW and we couldn’t be more excited. Plus 4 for working her a$$ off and chasing a career instead of boys (novel concept). Oh, but then there’s Roxy. Oh, Roxy. She is useless … except for the vital skill of following Whitney around to ask questions so the audience is up to date. Minus 3 . Plus 6 for Kelly Cutrone for supporting Whitney and taking every opportunity to get digs in at Roxy, as if she can’t believe she’s even here and must be dealt with. The fashion show hits predictable snags, but the buyers appear to whisper more compliments than criticism, and Kelly gives Whitney a “job well done” hug. Plus 10 . Olivia Palermo met with Joe Zee to discuss the Today debacle … and belittle Erin: “She’s a publicist… I’m an editor of the magazine.” Minus 7 , because … LOL. At least the two finally ended their feud … kinda sorta. Erin backed off her threat to leave Elle if Olivia wasn’t fired, and continued her career. Smart move. Plus 8 . Smart for her career, that is. Erin still hates Olivia’s guts. No points , we’re just saying. How someone so inept is still employed in this day and age is beyond us. Bless her heart, Whitney Port cannot express emotion with her voice. Every sentence sounds identical. Minus only 2 , though, because her eyes help compensate … Robbie insinuates that Olivia is a fame whore and Erin would soon be jealous of all the additional attention she’ll be getting. Pretty much spot on, Robbie! Plus 5 . We loved how Whitney was a mess before her collection debuted, putting the fashion line above her own appearance. Plus 3 again for the right priorities, girl. Olivia, while interviewing Anna Sui: “You won the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award, and I was there.” Minus 12 for trying to make every effing thing about her. Hey Roxy, effing do something. Anything. Make us interested in your presence. Minus 4 . The girl wants to be an actress – stir up some drama, already! Yeesh. TOTAL: +8 . A surprisingly strong debut for Whitney & Co. We’re skeptical that they’ll be able to sustain borderline compelling levels, for long, but here’s hoping …

Whitney Port Calls ‘The Hills’ Final Season ‘Bittersweet’

‘I think it’s ending on a good point,’ the ‘City’ star says about season six, premiering tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Whitney Port Photo: MTV News While Whitney Port has moved on to “The City,” which kicks off its new season Tuesday night (April 27), she got her start interning with LC at Teen Vogue on the first season of “The Hills.” Now that she’s working for Kelly Cutrone in New York, she’s looking at the final season of “The Hills” as a sweet swan song, especially since it will have so many twists and turns. “My reaction to hearing about the last season of ‘The Hills’ was kind of bittersweet,” Port told MTV News. “I mean, at first I feel so far removed from it, where I was like, at first, it didn’t really affect me, and [now] it’s sad. But I think it’s ending on a good point. I think it’s one of those things where it should end where the popularity is still pretty high, and I know it’s sad for me, because once Lauren left, I think the show totally changed.” So would Port consider coming back to bid the show farewell? “There’s been some rumblings of coming back for something,” she hinted. “But I’m not sure if it’s actually going to happen.” Port said she’s totally game to reconnect with her West Coast crew for one last time with the cameras rolling. “I would definitely be open to it,” she said. “It started this whole thing for me. So I’m so grateful and thankful for it, and I still think it’s a really fun show, so I’d love to be a part of it.” Would you like to see Whitney come back one more time on “The Hills”? Tell us in the comments! “The City” premieres Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT after “The Hills” at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Kell on Earth: The Check Is in the Fail

We were too busy dreaming about Bodie Miller’s backside to bother watching Kell on Earth last night. Thankfully fictional freelancer Betsey Morgenstern was working there this fall during the filming. We have a feeling she has some stories to share. Double Agent Provacateur by Betsey Morgenstern After getting busy in a Burger King Uniqlo Bathroom last week, things have been progressing nicely between me and Tim, the Irish intern. He’s been coming over to my apartment and brouging into my ear just about every night as we cuddle and coo underneath the covers. He says that he’s not looking for a girlfriend and doesn’t want anything exclusive. I think that’s bullshit. I should be able to sleep with other men, but if he wants to keep riding on the Betsey train, this has got to be the only caboose he’s grabbing. One night during fashion week, we were all working late and Big Stephanie, the one who can’t find her asshole with both hands, a flashlight, and a Google map with a big red circle painted squarely on her pucker, asked if Tim would walk her home because she is scared of the homeless man that asks for money outside the apartment her parents rent for her in the West Village. Doesn’t she know that Tim is my man? How dare she try to take him from me! For this, she shall die. The easy thing about ruining Big Stephanie’s career is that she makes it especially easy. Not only is she whiny and incompetent, but she is also infernally stupid and disorganized, so even a lowly intern like myself can throw her world into a tizzy. Here is how I did it. First, when she was printing out labels for the invitations for the Nicolas Achoo show, I hacked into her computer and had it print out the labels four times. She never even bothered to check the names, and had the interns make up four complete sets of invitations! Ha. Then she told us to get the stamps and mail them, and I took most of the postage and stashed it in my bag. Then she only had 120 stamps and about 8 jillion invites to send out. Really, she only had 2 jillion times four, but it took Big Stephanie’s little brain a while to figure that out. She was so befuddled by the multiple labels and lack of stamps that she stomped around, eyes welled up, screaming about how disorganized everything was. Why not just put a plan into effect and execute it, BS? It is that hard? Finally, after getting chewed out by Emily and annoying everyone in the office, Kelly stepped in and had to take over the whole affair. Doesn’t she have better things to do, like tracking down the long-lost dog that her former maid’s sister gave away to the shelter in Staten Island? I heard that it’s being held for ransom by the lesbian neighbors that hate Kelly. If the invitation debacle wasn’t enough to get Big Stephanie forever away from my boyfriend Tim, the next step in my plan was to ruin the press release she prepared for the Nicolas Achoo show. I went in and added a h into Nicolas, but only one. If I spelled them all wrong then the press would just think that’s how his name is spelled, but if you spell it two different ways, they won’t know which way is correct and then they’ll call the PR girl whose name is on the release and get all bitchy asking her which way it should be spelled. Fucking reporters. Too bad Emily noticed it before it went out and made her change it. She apologized over and over again, but she didn’t even defend herself and say that something must have happened. She just admitted that she had no idea how to spell his name and tried to make it seem like it was no big deal, oh, Stephanie. When it finally comes to the day of the Nicolas Achoo show, everything is going well and Kelly is hitting on all the 19 year-old male models and is in this weird cougar zone where she wants to be both their mother and their lover at the same time. Gross. But none of the models are nearly as cute as Achoo, who is like some grand poobah of menswear. Kelly thinks that his clothes are genius but not wearable. I have no clue what she is talking about. Who doesn’t want to wear a complete body sock with a mask and a tuxedo over it? I have to work the door of the show, and before it all starts, I corner Nicolas and ask him what he thinks I would look like in one of his spandex outfits. “Sorry, but they’re for men.” “Nicolas, don’t you think my bodacious bottom would look great covered in tight fabric?” “I’m sure it would, but these are for men.” “Wouldn’t you like to unzip me from your creation and caress your hands all over my smooth skin.” “Sorry, but I am for the men as well.” What an asshole. And to think I worked so hard to fuck up the invitations to his show and this is the thanks I get. The press starts arriving and I’m trying to think up ways to get my revenge. As he’s talking to the women from Women’s Wear Daily . He starts to give her all this attitude when she doesn’t understand his vision. This is one of those situations where I don’t have to do anything, but watch him self-destruct. He gives GQ the stink eye when they laugh at his clothes, and he give sass to the women from Esquire because she thinks he is too avante-garde for the magazine. The only press people that like him are the Japanese because, well, they are into really fucked up shit like that. He’s not happy with the press he got for the show at all, and calls up Emily the next day to bitch her out. All she wants is his check, which he won’t fork over because he says People’s Revolution didn’t do their job. I was hoping that Emily would fire Big Stephanie over this, but instead everyone gets made at Nicolas Achoo because he won’t pay. Damn it, I’m going to have to mess with her again, and Kelly is going to take him to court. This thing is a huge mess. Maybe I can mess up Stephanie with the Agent Saboteur fashion show. Again it’s a problem with the invitations. This time I didn’t even do anything, Stephanie just fucked it up all on her own, and Emily yelled at her again. She was so mad that she bitched to her sister about it for like an hour while wondering around the streets of Manhattan trying to pick up tricks. She didn’t get a job, and stupid Stephanie still does. I’m going to get her yet. The show itself went fine after they solidified a venue. There was this really mean British bitch who worked for Agent Saboteur, and she kept ordering candles and birdcages like she had some kind of fetish for them. She was really driving everyone insane trying to get everything perfect in the lobby of the SoHo Grand Hotel, but Kelly was all like “Please, bitch, you ain’t got no money.” I don’t know why she was so worried about how the space looked because every girl who walked down the runway had an atomic wedgie, but apparently that was OK. At the end of the day, everyone was very pleased with the show. We know that it’s not going to last long, and I’m going to have to exploit it to get Stephanie fired. And when Tim, who I can’t understand, but is oh so pretty, lies his little head on my bosom at night, that is what I dream of while I stroke his hair. You will pay, Stephanie. You will pay.
