It was the end of the line for not just one couple on Bachelor in Paradise Tuesday night. Or even just two couples. But a trio of tandems ended up calling it quits on the latest episode, with the Season 6 finale looming and, with it, all that pressure of Fantasy Suites, engagement and more. To open this recap, we’ll focus on Demi Burnett and her girlfriend Kristian Haggerty, who clearly have real feelings for each other. However, as documented the evening before , Demi was struggling to embrace her sexuality for the first time in front of so many people after having only just come out a short while back. “I want to be engaged, I want to marry her,” she said of Kristian, adding by way of concern: “But there is a part of me that’s terrified of what people are thinking whenever they see me and her kiss. I can’t get rid of that.” While this exact feeling was unique to Demi, she wasn’t the only contestant on Tuesday unsure about her romantic future. Clay Harbor and Nicole Lopez-Alvar, along with Chris Bukowski and Katie Morton, were also on fairly shaky ground. Yes, Nicole and Clay had been steadily progressing for week — but she ensed him holding back from a true committment. As a result, these two headed out on a date last night… where she decided to tell Clay she was falling for him, hoping for the same response. Alas: “You are my best friend in the beach,” he told her. “I just want to see you and spend so much time with you, I do. And I do think I’m starting to fall in love with you, I am. I just can’t say right now that I’m in love .” Chris and Katie could relate. They were also struggling to get on the same page, too. “I’m just so in my head right now,” he confessed, continuing as follows: “I can’t even explain it, because I feel like what me and Katie have is great. I know I have something amazing, but I’m still second-guessing that amazingness with an amazing person.” Then there was Connor Saeli, who had a VERY different issue . He had just gotten rejected by Caelynn Miller-Keyes (who left the show with Dean Unglert) and he wasn’t clicking romantically with newcomer and fellow singleton Revian Chang. The only person on his mind was Whitney Fransway, with whom he hit it off with at Chris Randone and Krystal Nielson’s wedding — but she had yet to arrive on the beach. Slight problem, right? “I thought Whitney might come down the stairs, but if she doesn’t come, I’ll probably just leave,” Connor said. “I’m not here to give out a friendship rose, I genuinely came here to find someone to find love, and if that’s not happening, I don’t want to be here.” But… wait! Almost as though it were scripted, Whitney later showed up with a date card at Connor’s hotel door, much to his extreme delight! “All I wanted was for you to come down and go on a date,” he said, smiling from ear to ear. “So this is the best.” Back at the bungalows: The couples got ready to head into that night’s cocktail party, only to find out that Chris Harrison had canceled it. What the what?!? They therefore went straight to the rose ceremony instead, as the suspense built and Harrison made sure to remind them how important these roses were. Why? Because, at this point, they were designed to represent commitment and a future together. Here is how it all shook out: Luke Stone offered his rose to Bri Barnes, but she declined and he was sent packing. Matt Donald then also offered his rose to Bri… and this time she accepted. Dylan chose Hannah. John Paul Jones chose Tayshia Adams. Chase McNary chose Angela Amezcua. Clay chose Nicole. Demi went with Kristian, of course. And Chris picked Katie… which meant Revian, Sydney Lotuaco and Haley Ferguson were going home. The next day, Harrison returned to announce that Bachelor in Paradise as they knew it was over . “Last night was your last rose ceremony,” he said. “What is next? Romantic overnight dates, Fantasy Suites, spending the night together and taking that night step as a couple.” Harrison continued: “Today, each couple is going to go have that conversation. “And I need you to be brutally honest with yourselves and each other and think, ‘Are we ready to take that step together as a couple?’ If you’re not, it’s time to check out of Paradise and head back home.” The message was heard loudly and clearly… as couples started dropping like flies, beginning with Bri and Matt, then Chase and Angela. Next up, Jones told Tayshia that he was in love with her — yet she just wasn’t there yet. Both devastated and in tears , they peaced out separately. Hannah and Dylan, however, couldn’t wait to take this next step together, while Clay and Nicole also decided to give romance (and sex!) a shot. After a heart-to-heart conversation, Demi and Kristian agreed to keep exploring their relationship, as well. As for Chris and Katie? “I feel like I’m so unsure,” he told her. “I don’t know, I feel like I push people away that I like, that I feel comfortable with.” “At the end of the day, whether it’s me or it’s not me, you need to figure out who makes you happy,” she replied. “I don’t know if it’s you for the rest of my life, but do I like you? Yes. Do you make me happy? Yes.” The sweetness wasn’t over, either. “For you to even still be sitting here is a testament to the person you are, and that’s what I’m looking for,” Chris said. “I want to give this a shot, I can’t sit here and say I don’t.” Katie was psyched to hear it all. “If this is Chris Bukowski’s last time ever on the show and we end up together, then that makes me the exception to the rule,” she said. “ He came out of retirement — and found me .” The season finale of Bachelor in Paradise airs next Tuesday at 8/7c on ABC. On Friday, prosecutors outlined their sentencing recommendations in documents filed in the United States District Court of Massachusetts. This comes months after the actress admitted to paying $15,000 to a college counselor to inflate her daughter’s SAT scores. According to the sentencing memo, prosecutors are shooting for the 56-year-old to serve one month in jail, followed by 12 months of supervised release and a $20,000 fine. They are arguing for jail time while emphasizing that Huffman being confined to her large Hollywood Hills home wouldn’t be too much of a punishment. The former Desperate Housewives star who was previously facing up to four months in jail before pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud earlier this year. In response to prosecutors’ sentencing recommendations, Huffman’s legal team requested one year of probation, 250 hours of community service, and a $20,000 fine. The actress asked for leniency in a letter submitted to the court. Felicity Huffman: “When my daughter looked at me and asked with tears streaming down her face, 'Why didn't you believe in me? Why didn't you think I could do it on my own?' I had no adequate answer for her. I could only say, 'I am sorry. Macy and her former Desperate Housewives co-star Eva Longoria . Felicity Huffman is set to be sentenced on September 13.
Tyler Baltierra has had his ups and downs, getting praised and dad-shamed from one day to the next. This time, a follower came forward with a comment — that Tyler is very in touch with his feminine side. Tyler agrees 100%, and his response should be read by men (especially dads) all across the globe. “You seem to be very comfortable with your feminine side,” one of Tyler’s followers recently commented. Tyler replied: “It has never bothered me.” He recalled: “I was always told as a kid that I was ‘too feminine.'” That is, of course, both an absurd and a hateful thing to say to a child. Fortunately, Tyler overcame those criticisms without letting them warp his perspective. “But I was raised in a household as the only boy,” Tyler explained. “With my single mother and my older sister.” This was absolutely to his benefit. “I think I was blessed to be raised without the idea that I have to trade my sensitive emotions for masculinity,” he reflected. Tyler affirmed: “I was raised by a very strong FEMININE woman.” “And,” he concluded. “I am not ashamed of it at all!” Tyler left the comment, but that wasn’t the end of it. Realizing how important the point that he had made was, he took a screenshot. He then uploaded the image to his Instagram Stories, highlighting the text so that it could not be missed. It’s a lesson that he wants to impart upon his fans and followers. Not all of the baby daddies of Teen Mom are people who should be giving out life advice, but Tyler has a good head on his shoulders. It’s not clear if the commenter to whom Tyler responded was trying to give a compliment or to be shady. To be clear, their words were complimentary. Some people, however, would take those words as an insult. Those people have no business around children. Notice how Tyler didn’t accuse the commenter of levying criticism and also didn’t take it as a compliment. He simply replied to the statement at face value, which is a good tactic when you don’t know the original poster’s intentions. Tyler has faced “criticisms” before over the way that he styles himself and takes care of his body. Rumors that he may be bisexual have circulated for years. Tyler has done a reasonably good job of swatting rumors that he is bi or gay without overdoing it and coming across as homophobic. For the record, taking care of your health and caring about your appearance are not based upon gender and sexuality. Those are just things that people can do or not do for themselves. And if Tyler sets off some people’s “gaydar” … it really doesn’t matter. Only he gets to define his sexuality. The fact of the matter is that Tyler is a father of daughters, and his connection to his feminine side makes him a better dad. He can play with his daughters without being self-conscious or haunted by pernicious ideas that toxic masculinity implanted in his mind. Nova is already benefitting from that. Vaeda will do the same. The episode pretty much centers around the drama that’s about to go down at Kristen’s upcoming 90s sitcom-themed costume skating party. There’s going to be some fun get-ups at that, like Malaysia as a Clover from Bring it On, Evelyn Lozada as Peggy Bundy, and Feby and Kristen in different iterations of Ashley Banks. But hold that thought. We start the episode with OG being mad at CeCe, who won’t own what she said about OG. They definitely need to talk, and they will eventually. Then we find Jackie telling Jenn and OG that she got a string of DM’s from some man in Atlanta who that said Jenn was saying derogatory things about Malaysia’s kids and finances. Jenn said she doesn’t know what she’s talking about and that the man is lying, of course. So we’ll see where this goes. Jackie, Feby, and Evelyn get together for a pole dancing class but they don’t really pole dance. This is more about them having a kiki. Evelyn mentions that Tami has been working with her daughter on her rap career. That’s when Feby thinks it’s cute to start with the shady talk. You already know, Feby starts shading Tami’s age. She says it’s good that Tami is working with her daughter because it means she’s acknowledging that past her prime. Then Evelyn brings up what Jackie mentioned about Jenn allegedly talking smack about Malaysia. Jackie says she doesn’t want to repeat what the man said but she will give Evelyn his number so she can hear it from him. Evelyn calls the man. The first thing he does is start screaming and acting like a dang groupie, so obviously, his credibility is trash. Anyway, he says that Jenn told Dominique that Malaysia has no money, can’t afford to live in LA, she’s a bad mom, and that she got put out of her house, but that Dominique is also running her mouth. This is the word around Atlanta. Hold that thought. OG finally confronts CeCe and says she hates that CeCe isn’t owning what she said and that she keeps dancing around the issue. CeCe continued dancing around the issue and even said that it crossed her mind that Kristen created a fake text. Anyway, we finally get to the part where CeCe finally admits that she probably did talk trash. It came at a time when she was cool with Kristen and didn’t know OG so she was just riding for family. CeCe acknowledges that what she said was messed up and finally owns it. She apologizes and they both move on with their friendship mended because OG understood the circumstances under which CeCe said what she said. Now we’re at the part where Jackie tells Kristen about Jenn spreading rumors about Malaysia. Obviously, Kristen is going to run back to Malaysia and tell her what’s up…at the most inappropriate moment. Hold that thought because this is also the moment when Jackie tells Tami how Feby was talking ageist crap about her. Notice how Jackie is all up in the mix of everyone’s drama? Guess those crystals have a weak signal or something. Tami gets her moment to confront Feby. Basically, Tami is meeting with a dialect coach so she can learn how to talk with a British accent. She invited Feby and OG and goes in after class. Tami directly asks Feby what she said. Feby backtracks again. She said she never said Jackie was too old to be rapping, which is true, but she still lied about talking trash. Instead of being direct, Feby tries to deflect by telling OG that Evelyn was talking smack about her feet hanging out of her shoes. OG thinks that’s childish, which it is, and says she’s going to remain unbothered. Then Feby says Jenn was talking smack about Tami too. Later on, OG goes back and tells Jackie that Feby said she twisted her words around and she’s tired of her being messy. Here we go. Now it’s time for the party! Let’s look at some of these get-ups before we get into the drama! Malaysia wants specifics so when Jenn and Dominique walk in she wastes no time asking what was said. Jenn and Dominique deny ever talking about her.. Malaysia leaves it alone for now and even Evelyn says she thinks they’re telling the truth. Then Jackie comes in and by now they realize she’s the common denominator. Malaysia confronts her and everything goes downhill. They end up in each other’s faces, nose to nose, bickering back and forth. Security eventually pulls them apart but Jackie’s friend, some random man, starts popping off and makes things worse. And we end the episode with Jackie grabbing a chair and trying to throw it at Malaysia. The convention for The National Association of Black Journalists or NABJ kicks off every year for journalists, students, and media-related professionals. There, folks learn firsthand key strategies in media, socialize professionally, and seek career opportunities. This year it took place in sunny & humid Miami, Florida. Source: @AieshaArab / IG The workshop was hosted by BOSSIP’s deputy editor Danielle Canada who emceed a panel of our viral headline experts on staff, including senior editor Jennifer H. Cunningham, Aiesha Letman (myself), Jason Lee and, Alex Ford. Bruce Wright, managing editor of our fellow Interactive One site News One was also there to assist. In the workshop, our writers were asked the FAQs behind the manufacturing of a standout headline, regardless of the voice of the publication. Attendees learned about the importance of headline writing as it pertains to ideation and creating viral moments. And…when is a headline too far? Jason Lee was there to assist with the latter. Of course, this question was directed at our site, specifically. So, how do we not “cross the line”? What is offensive or ‘racist’ to white folks? Jason says, ‘As far as (mayo), aioli and those sort of things…if white people are offended by certain things, then that’s fine but the dynamic is different. We are a Black site, we are Black people, normally we’re the oppressed people. So, if the worst you have to deal is being called a ‘mayo-packet’ behind somebody who did something racist, something stupid, then in my mind, you kinda have to chalk that.’ New One’s Bruce Wright had an important point to add, saying: ‘I don’t think we should only single out Black media for doing what the original media created and is still doing on now.’ Alex Ford probably in one short sentence gave the crux of what you need to create a viral moment. ‘We’re not just writing these headlines for you to just see them and laugh. If you read some of the posts, their actually well-written, comedically. Also, your use of language. Find that one word that represents what you’re trying to say. Blake Horstmann continued to make the most of his time back in the spotlight on Monday night’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise. In the most irritating of ways. Last week, of course, Blake opened Season 6 of this ABC franchise by revealing he had previously hooked up with both Caelynn and Kristina, prior to exposing the former’s text messages to him as a way to defend his honor. It was such a very not cool move. How did the series follow-up that bombshell yesterday evening? By airing the first rose ceremony of the season, as the stars wondered whose rose Hannah G. would accept after discovering early connections with Blake and Dylan. The latter asked her put first, so Hannah chose Dylan and Blake ended up giving his rose to Tayshia, with whom he’d gone out on the premiere. But she wasn’t all that into the polarizing suitor. “There’s no way I can trust him,” Tayshia said in an on-camera interview, both candidly and intelligently. The inaugural rose ceremony then resulted in Bibiana, Annaliese and Jane being sent home. With this trio out, new contestants were flown in. The switcheroo started with Jordan from Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette . He had gotten engaged to Jenna during Bachelor in Paradise Season 5 … only to break things off with her upon learning she’d allegedly been seeing another man. Ouch . Despite this apparent heartbreak, Jordan was oozing confidence the moment he returned. Equipped with a date card, he pulled aside Hannah, Nicole and Kristina, quickly learning all about the mess that Blake created. Was Hannah involved with two men? Yes. Did Jordan care? Not one bit. “This is my beach and on my la playa, I do as I please,” Jordan told the cameras. “So if Hannah’s the one that I want to take on this date, Hannah’s going.” This was clearly an attractive pitch, but Hannah turned him down, saying she simply can’t date three people. Watch Bachelor in Paradise Season 6 Episode 3 Online For this, Jordan directed his wrath at Blake. “I just came back to my beach and talked to a couple of girls and they’re all tearing up over this attachment to Blake,” he said, adding: “So Blake’s the problem. He’s just leading them all on and he thinks that that’s not hurting anybody, but in the end, that’s gonna hurt several people. Not for long. This has got to be put to an end because in my position as the mayor, I’m here to look out for the community. “I’m disappointed. I didn’t come to Blake in Paradise season 1. This is Bachelor in Paradise season 6.” Jordan proceeded to confront Blake. “I just walked into Paradise and on my f-cking beach – this is my beach — and got turned down on a date,” he began. When Blake told his nemesis that it had just been a “crazy” few days, Jordon told him to shape up, “hammer it out one by one” and fix everything. After again declaring himself the “mayor of Paradise,” Jordan went zip-lining with Nicole. “He surprised me so much today,” Nicole told the cameras. “I was like, wait he’s a normal guy?” Speaking of normal and awesome guys… Mike from the most recent season of The Bachelorette also showed up this week. How was he feeling after nearly proposing to Hannah Brown? “It took me some time to make a complete decision,” Mike told Chris Harrison. “The point of going on The Bachelorette was to find love. I kind of got blindsided a little bit so I had to make sure that my heart was ready, my mind was ready. I feel that I am completely ready and excited for what’s to come.” Mike quickly caught Onyeka’s eye, grabbing both her and Caelynn to talk before making his choice. It ended up being Caelynn, as the pair enjoyed a romantic dinner together. “This may very well be our last first date,” Mike said in an on-camera admission, a sentiment echoed by Caelynn. “Mike makes me giddy,” she said. “Mike makes me smile and I have not felt this giddy and this happy in Paradise. I expected him to be great, but he’s even exceeded those expectations.” Back on the beach, Blake claimed to Hannah that he was “all in,” talking a very good game by adding: “I wouldn’t be saying the things I’m saying unless I see something past paradise.” So these two danced and kissed, prompting Dylan to eventually step in. “I just kind of want to focus on Hannah,” he told Blake in front of Hannah. “I’ve expressed to her now that I clear[ed] all that up, and I am here for her and I’m pursuing her man,” Blake fired back. “That dude is a psycho,” Dylan replied under his breath as he backed away. Hannah’s decision to stick with Blake stunned their castmates, leaving Dylan wondering if she’d been honest with him from the start. “Did they date before this or something?” he wondered of Hannah and Blake. Bethenny Frankel wishes she did not need to take to Instagram yesterday. She wishes things were different. She really wishes August 10 would not be a date forever seared into her mind, for the most terrible and tragic of reasons. But this is reality for the veteran Bravo star and reality is that Bethenny’s ex-boyfriend, Dennis Shields, died one year ago yesterday. In his memory and in his honor, Frankel penned a heartwarming tribute to Shield online several hours ago. “One year ago today, I woke up to a beautiful sunny day with @biggysmallz by the pool, and my world crumbled and turned upside down in an instant,” the Real Housewife wrote to open a caption that accompanied the photo below. It continued: “A man Dennis, who I loved and respected, who was in my life for 30 years unexpectedly passed away.” Shields was found dead in his Trump Tower apartment last August. He was only 51 years old at the time and he had been in and out of Bethenny’s life for years; the two may not have been dating when Dennis actually died, but they remained very close. According to The New York Post, Shields passed away due to a prescription pills overdose. Referencing her two well-known dogs, Frankel continued in her tribute on Saturday: Dennis insisted we adopt biggy AND smallz for my daughter Peanut. He simply couldn’t imagine separating them. We racked our brains staying up late coming up with the perfect name for two dogs from the same litter with very different body types. Thing 1 & Thing 2 was an option but Peanut found it degrading. Lenny & Squiggy was a good one but I knew it would only appeal to the over 40 set. Then at 5am, Dennis was waiting for me to wake up and in his stronger than Tequila New Yawk accent said “BIGGY AND SMALLZ” and two stars were born. He loved these dogs and the feelings were mutual. They were particularly fond of his salty bald head. According to TMZ last summer, Shields told paramedics and police in his final moments that he had taken his prescribed oxycodone and Vicodin, along with a sleeping pill. He was simply trying to address persistent pain in his back. Alas, the combination of these drugs proved fatal in the end. Added Frankel 365 days later: “At times, it seemed like he and [the dogs] spoke the same language and they were the only ones who understood him. He was a loving, sweet, gentle, brilliant, complicated, hilarious, creative and supportive man. “He is missed terribly by so many but lives on in his friends and family and furry loved ones.” Concluded Bethenny: “I am a different person and in a different emotional place than I was a year ago, and the wounds have begun to heal but the scar will remain on my heart forever.” In closing, Frankel simply wrote: RIP, August 10. #Unforgettable May Dennis Shields rest in peace.
