Ray Rice Reinstated To The NFL, Janay Finally Speaks Out On Their Domestic Violence Drama

Interesting… Ray Rice’s Indefinite Suspension Ruling Overturned, Wife Janay Speaks After getting booted from the Baltimore Ravens over laying the smack down on his then-fiancee Janay in a casino elevator, Ray Rice has been reinstated due to the questionable decision-making and rule-rewriting of NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell. Via TMZ : Ray Rice just won a HUGE victory … his indefinite suspension has been overturned. Short story … a just ruled NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell abused his authority when he changed Rice’s discipline from a 2-game suspension to an indefinite one. The judge ruled Rice had told the truth when he was initially interviewed by Goodell and company and the Commish had no right to alter the punishment after TMZ posted the elevator video. It could be something of a hollow victory … Rice is now a man without a team, and his prospects of new NFL employment is iffy at best. In decision, U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones explained … “Rice did not mislead the Commissioner at the June 16th meeting, and therefore, that the imposition of a second suspension based on the same incident and the same known facts about the incident, was arbitrary.” “The Commissioner needed to be fair and consistent in his imposition of discipline. Moreover, any failure on the part of the League to understand the level of violence was not due to Rice’s description of the event but to the inadequacy of words to convey the seriousness of domestic violence. That the League did not realize the severity of the conduct without a visual record also speaks to their admitted failure in the past to sanction this type of conduct more severely.” Rice issued a statement saying he’s thankful. Hmmm…how do you feel about Ray getting back on the NFL Roster? Peep what his wife Janay had to say about the elevator knockout that started all this mess after the jump…

Missing Black Girl Found! Philly Woman Caught On Surveillance Being Snatched Off The Street While Walking Home Found Alive In Maryland

Carlesha Freeland Gaither is home safe tonight. Carlesha Freeland Gaither Found Alive After Violent Abduction Recall the graphic surveillance video that caught a Philadelphia woman being brutally kidnapped from a city street on her way home last week? Thanks to an outpouring of concern and vigilance by the general public, the vehicle she was placed in was spotted states away in Maryland…leading to her safe return home. Via NBCnews : Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, the 22-year-old woman violently abducted from a Philadelphia street on Sunday, has been found alive in Maryland and man police described as a “vicious predator” has been arrested for the kidnapping. “I’m taking my baby home. Thank you,” Keisha Gaither, the woman’s overjoyed mother, told the public at a news conference Wednesday night. Her family erupted into applause as the woman spoke. Freeland-Gaither was rescued from the car of her alleged kidnapper, 37-year-old Delvin Barnes, along the side of a road in Jessup, Maryland, officials said. She has suffered some injuries and is being taken to a nearby hospital in Columbia, Maryland for treatment, police said. She’s expected to recover. “It’s very special for all of us. You hope, you hope, you hope, but you don’t always know that it will end this way,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said. Edward Hanko, special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia division, said agents acted on tips from the public to help track down Barnes’ car. Authorities tracked his car on Wednesday and a FBI Task Force from the agency’s Baltimore office moved in to take him into custody when he exited his car along the 7200 block of Waterloo Road in Jessup, Hanko said. Barnes, who has ties to Philadelphia, apparently attacked Freeland-Gaither at random, detectives said. He is being held on a bench warrant out of Virginia for alleged capital attempted murder in Charles City County. “He’s a thug and this is what he does apparently,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said of the alleged abductor. “He’s a vicious predator. He’s off the streets.” Barnes will be charged federally in the alleged kidnapping and assault, Hanko said. Thankfully she made it home safe and sound! A case like this could easily have gone quite differently. Ladies always be aware of your surroundings — sickos like Barnes are out there everywhere. NBCnews

BOSSIP Exclusive: Alexandra Shipp Dishes On ‘Drumline: A New Beat’ And Her Breakout Year In Hollywood

Will you be watching “Drumline: A New Beat”???? Alexandra Shipp Interview Alexandra Shipp is enjoying a breakout year and capping it off with the lead role in “Drumline: A New Beat.”  The singing/dancing entertainer who plays a drummer with a dream named Dani, recently sat down with BOSSIP to dish on the VH1 film and her time in the spotlight. How does your character Dani pick up where Devin Miles left off in “Drumline”? Well it’s a new beat so for Dani she comes into the school and is trying to be the first female section leader and is trying to break down all the ideas that people have about women when it comes to being in a marching band. She goes into this school trying to succeed at music and like Devin Miles she is a little bit cocky and thinks that she deserves it. Whereas you have to earn your keep on the line, so it’s a little bit like Devin Miles but it’s also a new story about Dani where she‘s trying to discover herself and learn how to be the best musician and female section leader that she can possibly be. Will “Drumline: A New Beat” give viewers the same feeling of being at an HBCU as “Drumline”? You do [feel like you’re at an HBCU] but this is definitely focusing on the drumline a little bit more. We’re at college but at the same time we’re in a marching band. So we wanted to make it a little bit more worldly so that everyone could be like all the girls who play the snare, all the girls who want to be in a marching band could get into it. We have some really great HBCU moments but we also have some really cool drumline moments, it’s about the camaraderie that you feel when you’re on the line with your friends. Everyone’s in sync, everyone’s feeling it. Even though you already have a background in singing and dancing this is your first time acting in a band. What was the experience like? It was such an intense experience. I danced before, I sang before, I thought I knew what I was getting myself into. I have such a respect for people who do this for a living because it’s not easy. It’s physically taxing on top of emotionally taxing; you’re standing in the sun and you’re like ‘I can’t move.’ I really found a love for drumming and a love for marching and a love for all of my band mates. I saw the movie and I think it really does translate. That’s the whole point of being on a drumline, is to be a part of this world, a part of this society where people love and support you but they’re also passionate about what they’re doing. What do you have to say to “Drumline” fans who are on the fence about seeing this film? This movie is definitely for the fans [of the original], but it’s also for the new fans as well. When I saw “Drumline” I had no idea that bands did that; I’m from the West Coast and so we don’t go as hard as they do on the East Coast especially when it comes to black colleges. I think the original fans will feel that but the new fans will be introduced into a whole new world of drumming. What do you want people to learn from Dani? I want girls to learn that it’s so okay to be a Tomboy, it’s so okay to go after what you want no matter what people say and what people think. I think that’s exactly what this movie’s about. How is life for Alexandra Shipp right now? Life is pretty good, I couldn’t be any more happy. Six months ago I didn’t know if I was going to be able to pay my rent so I’m just happy that my hard work is paying off. Drumline: A New Beat airs TONIGHT 9/8c on VH1.

Daimler Trucks Faces Civil Rights Complaints, Employees Being Called Racist Names Like “N****r” “Boy” “Toby” And “Buckwheat”

Wow Daimler… Really? “No place for n—ers here” ? Daimler Trucks North America Being Investigated Over Discrimination Claims This place definitely seems like a terrible work environment for people of color . According to KGW reports : A investigation into Daimler Trucks North America has expanded after four more employees opened civil rights complaints against the Portland-based company. Nine Daimler employees from its North Portland facility have now filed complaints, in addition to the commissioner’s complaint filed by Brad Avakian, according to Charlie Burr, spokesman for the Bureau of Labor and Industries. The new complaints include allegations of discrimination based on age, race and ethnicity, including racial epithets and failure of management. They also include retaliation for voicing concerns, which can include firing, being moved to a different job or getting passed over for a promotion. Among the complainants is a Native American employee who “may have been forced to leave his position because of working conditions at the North Portland facility,” Burr said. According to his complaint, the Native American employee said he was harassed and pressured by his team leader to do extra work or work outside his job description because of his race. The team leader was also accused of pushing the employee against the hood of a truck, challenging him to a fight. That employee said he felt he had no choice but to resign. Another black employee said he was called racist names and challenged to fights, told to take heated conversations “to the boat ramp,” and given a drug test when he reported the incidents. Avakian’s commissioners complaint was filed September 25, on behalf of five employees who claimed to have been called racist names including “ni**er,” “boy,” “Toby” and “buckwheat.” One of those African-American employees also alleged that a white Daimler coworker threatened him with a noose and said he would drag the employee behind his car. On September 18, an African-American woman filed a similar complaint, alleging she was discriminated against based on her race, age and religion. The woman was allegedly called derogatory names in German and, after working at the company for a year, a sign was placed on her chair that read “no place for ni**ers here.” She blamed Daimler’s “pro-German culture” on creating a hostile work environment for minorities. SMH. This is just terrible. Of course Daimler Trucks has released a statement claiming it doesn’t tolerate discrimination and trains employees to avoid it. But it sounds like some folks need more than training because clearly some violations have occurred. Taina Sohlman / Shutterstock.com

Too Soon: Wife-Abusing Baller Ray Rice Could Be Reinstated To The NFL Next Month

This isn’t gonna go over well… NFL May Be Forced To Reinstate Ray Rice In November Via CBSSports Former Ravens running back Ray Rice remains suspended indefinitely following the publication of the video of him striking his now-wife, Janay, in a casino elevator, but he could be reinstated within the next four weeks, sources said. An appeal hearing date has been set, with a final decision expected to come in an expeditious manner thereafter, and all of that could be resolved by mid-November, which would conceivably allow Rice to sign with another team this season. Perhaps, even if reinstated, teams will find him too controversial to sign, but there is every expectation his playing status will be resolved before the NFL’s investigation into its handling of his case, being conducted by former FBI chief Robert Mueller, is completed. Former U.S. District Court Judge Barbara S. Jones is handling the appeal as a neutral, third-party arbitrator, and all sides in the case have agreed to a date to conduct the hearing in the near future. That date could change somewhat based on what Jones rules this week on some requests the NFLPA made to have certain materials available to them in discovery, but sources said Rice’s legal team has made it explicitly clear it has no desire to wait until the NFL and the NFLPA’s investigations are concluded to resolve the matter of this suspension appeal. Rice has maintained he did not lie in his testimony to Commissioner Roger Goodell, and his legal team will make the case that even under the NFL’s new domestic violence policy, and as a first-time offender, Rice should be suspended a maximum of six games, which has already passed. Furthermore, they will make the argument that the video tape of Rice’s actions were available to the team and the league throughout the process of determining his discipline, and thus nothing changed whatsoever with the case from the time Rice was suspended two games, until eventually being suspended indefinitely, save for TMZ obtaining and posting the video. Numerous legal experts I’ve spoken to believe Rice has an exceedingly strong case, and, considering it could be Week 10 or so before this hearing is resolved, it’s hard for them to conceive that Rice isn’t reinstated by Jones as part of her decision. If he is, would a team like the Colts, coached by former Ravens assistant Chuck Pagano who thinks highly of Rice, or New England, where Bill Belichick has very strong ties to Rice’s college coach, Greg Schiano, take a chance on Rice if they need a running back down the stretch? We wouldn’t be surprised if the NFL is literally BEGGING Ray to take the rest of the year off to keep the heat off of their shady azzes. Image via AP

Cover Up? Anonymous Law Enforcement Official Says He Mailed Ray Rice Elevator Tape To NFL Security Chief

The plot thickens… NFL Security Chief Jeffrey Miller Denies Ever Seeing Ray Rice Elevator Tape Via ESPN The video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee inside a casino elevator was sent to NFL headquarters to the attention of league security chief Jeffrey Miller in April, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The NFL has repeatedly said no one with the league saw the violent images until TMZ Sports released the video earlier this month. Miller said Thursday through an NFL spokesman that he never received the video. The official, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to release details of the case, said he doesn’t know if Miller ever saw the DVD or opened the package. His only communication with the NFL was a 12-second voicemail on April 9 from league offices confirming receipt of the package, in which a woman says, “You’re right. It’s terrible.” The official told the AP two weeks ago that he sent the video to the NFL, but asked the AP not to report that he had addressed the package to Miller. He eliminated that restriction Thursday. “Since the NFLPA and NFL have launched separate investigations into the league and the Ravens’ handling of Ray Rice’s case, I want to make a few things clear. No one from the NFL ever asked me for the inside-elevator video,” the official said Thursday. “I mailed it anonymously to Jeff Miller because he’s their head of security. I attached a note saying: ‘Ray Rice elevator video. You have to see it. It’s terrible.’ I provided a number for a disposable cellphone and asked for confirmation that it was received. I knew there was a possibility Mr. Miller may not get the video, but I hoped it would land in the right hands.” Says Jeff Miller about said tape: “I unequivocally deny that I received at any time a copy of the video, and I had not watched it until it was made public on September 8,” he said. Miller joined the league in 2008 as director of strategic security and was promoted to chief security officer in April 2011. Before joining the NFL, Miller spent nearly six years as the commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police. He worked for the state police for 24 years. At the NFL, Miller’s responsibilities include overseeing investigative programs and services. He is also in charge of event security and game integrity. When players get arrested, the NFL’s corps of investigators rarely get involved, leaving that to local law enforcement. The league’s security operatives gather court documents and police reports available to the public, but don’t ordinarily interview witnesses or gather evidence independently. It remains unclear what happened to the video once it arrived at league offices. There are two NFL executives named Jeffrey Miller, but the law enforcement official didn’t know that, and intended it to go to the chief of security. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the other Jeffrey Miller — who is the senior vice president of health and safety policy — did not report receiving the video. The law enforcement official said he wanted to make sure the NFL had the video before deciding on Rice’s punishment. “My intention wasn’t to bring down Commissioner Goodell or anyone else at the NFL,” he said. Somebody lyin’. The drama continues. Image via AP

Mark Cuban Apologizes to Family of Trayvon Martin, Stands by Controversial Remarks

Mark Cuban is not backing down. Speaking to Inc. magazine about the racist comment made by Donald Sterling over the past few weeks, along with the decision by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to ban the 80-year old for life , the Dallas Mavericks owner said the league is setting a dangerous precedent. Does it really want to take action against executives for their words and thoughts? “We’re all prejudiced in one way or another,” Cuban said. “If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street. “And if on that side of the street, there’s a guy that has tattoos all over his face – white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere – I’m walking back to the other side of the street. ” The Shark Tank star continued: “And the list goes on of stereotypes that we all live up to and are fearful of. So in my businesses, I try not to be hypocritical. I know that I’m not perfect. I know that I live in a glass house, and it’s not appropriate for me to throw stones.” Not long after making these comments, Cuban realized the mistake he made in using the hoodie example, considering Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in 2012. Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder after becoming suspicious of Martin – who was walking in his neighborhood while wearing a hooded sweatshirt – and then shooting him during a scuffle. “P/1: In hindsight I should have used different examples. I didn’t consider the Trayvon Martin family, and I apologize to them for that,” Cuban Tweeted last night. But aside from that apology, Cuban said he stands bu the “words and substance of the interview.” “I think that helping people improve their lives, helping people engage with people they may fear or may not understand,” he wrote. “And helping people realize that while we all may have our prejudices and bigotries.” Concluded the billionaire: “we have to learn that it’s an issue that we have to control, that it’s part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it.”

Stop The Violence: Student Opens Fire At North Philly High School

These multiple school shootings can NOT be a part of 2014… Student Opens Fire At Philadelphia High School Two students were left injured after a gunman, who was reportedly a fellow student, opened fired at a Philadelphia high school on Friday afternoon. via ABC News Two students were shot at a high school in northern Philadelphia today, police said. The suspected shooter, a fellow student, has been taken into custody, police said, while authorities search for at least one additional suspect. A boy and a girl, both 15, were shot by at least one fellow student shortly after 3 p.m. in the gymnasium at Delaware Valley Charter School, police said. The unidentified male victim was shot in the arm, while the female victim was grazed in the arm, authorities said, noting that both are in stable condition and expected to recover after being rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, a block away from the school. A friend of the girl who was shot told ABC News Philadelphia station WPVI that she spoke to her moments after the shooting. “We were just in the bathroom and our friend, she just came in the bathroom saying her arm, her arm,” the friend said. “There was just a lot of blood gushing out. She was saying she heard a loud boom in the gym room and she looked up, her and her boyfriend’s arm had been hit.” Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey confirmed there were seven students inside the gymnasium at the time of the incident, which was caught on the school’s surveillance video. This is a terrible way to start off the new year! Hopefully this doesn’t become a trend again this year.. Shutterstock

R.I.P. NYPD Cop Ran Over And Killed By Truck While Writing Parking Ticket

This is messed up. NYPD Officer Ran Over And Killed By Truck The officer was just doing his job and got killed in a freak accident. SMH. According to Newsday: A uniformed NYPD traffic enforcement agent was struck and killed by a large truck on a bustling Manhattan street Saturday afternoon, police said. Kalyanarat Ranasinghe, 71, was pinned beneath the Freightliner industrial vacuum truck at about 2:30 p.m. on East 44th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues, witnesses and colleagues said. The Queens resident was pronounced dead at the scene. The midtown accident brought traffic to a halt in the busy retail district on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Fellow traffic agents cried and consoled one another, mourning their fallen colleague. “The officer was on the roadway doing his job,” said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. “This underscores how dangerous the job can be. “These officers don’t make a lot of money, are out there in heavy traffic, in the worst possible weather day and night,” he added. “Unfortunately, things like this happen.” Anthony Trinidad, a doorman at a building on East 44th Street, said he saw the enforcement agent talking on his cellphone in front of the parked truck when the driver suddenly pulled out and ran over him. “It was a freak accident,” Trinidad said. “The driver was pulling out and didn’t see him. People were yelling for him to stop.” NYPD Deputy Chief Kim Royster said Ranasinghe was struck by the right side of the truck, which is used to pump out water or debris. Minutes after the accident, a coach bus collided with the truck, police said. No other injuries were reported. Ranasinghe “was on duty, but it is undetermined what he was doing” at the time of the accident, Royster said. Police did not release other details of the accident. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene afterward, and neither had been charged as of late Saturday. The collision remains under investigation. Prayers go out to his family. Shutterstock
