Corgi Rides Slide, Has Time of His Life

They are an especially cute breed of dog, and they have especially unique ways of having fun. Some Corgis like to emulate the sound of an ambulance . Others like to cover Carly Rae Jepsen’s ” Call Me Maybe .” And still others have needs that are a lot more basic, such as a Corgi named Buddy who is featured in the following video. Watch him slide down a twisty slide over and over and over and just try not to have a smile plastered on your face as you do: Corgi LOVES the Slide

Alec Baldwin Suspended By MSNBC, Issues Apology For Homophobic Outburst

Alec Baldwin has been suspended by MSNBC for hurling homophobic slurs at a photographer earlier this week, and the actor has issued a real apology. After previously denying he used a gay slur , then claiming he didn’t know an obvious anti-gay epithet was anti-gay, he’s finally admitting what he did. Alec Baldwin Goes OFF on Reporters The 55-year-old says in a statement, “I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry.” Trying to rationalize, or at least explain his rage in context, he adds, “What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive.” Baldwin admits it was “unacceptable” to shout the phrase “c**ksucking f*g” while chasing a photographer on Thursday. In his apology, Alec concedes: “Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support.” Baldwin’s issued his apology after the controversy he ignited and MSNBC announced it was yanking his weekly show off the air tonight and next Friday. Anderson Cooper , among others, called him out for the ridiculous story he tried to spin, which he seems to have come to grips with now at least. Meanwhile, the actor exchanged heated words with multiple reporters yesterday (see above) and appeared to hit a parked car while he was driving off. This is all after the c-bomb and f-bomb in question (below). Good times. Alec Baldwin Uses Gay Slur Against Photographer Alec Baldwin Calls Paparazzo C–ksucking F-g

SMH: 40-Year-Old Man Dies From Botched Blood Transfusion At Coney Island Hospital

Remind us never to go to Coney Island Hospital . Man Dies From Botched Blood Transfusion According to The NY Post There’s bad blood at Coney Island Hospital — and it’s deadly. A 40-year-old male patient died at the city-run hospital last week after receiving the wrong type blood during a transfusion, The Post has learned. Transfusions that don’t match a patient’s blood type — giving Type-A to a person who is Type-B, for example — causes the body to attack the new red blood cells, a violent and painful reaction that can lead to shock and a fatal kidney shutdown. “The blood was mislabeled in the lab. It wasn’t a nursing issue,” said one hospital professional who spoke yesterday on condition of anonymity. “It shouldn’t have happened. It’s just carelessness. “It’s a huge problem,” he added. A source said the fatal error occurred in the hospital’s sixth-floor lab, where blood drawn from patients is screened and “typed.” A technician labeled the patient’s blood as the wrong type, and the patient was given the wrong blood during a transfusion. Yesterday the lab was shuttered. Blood for Coney Island Hospital patients is now being typed by technicians at Kings County Hospital Center, with the results then phoned in to Coney Island. Coney Island continues to maintain its own stores of banked blood, and surgeries and ER treatment have not been curtailed. Still, emergency-surgery patients are for now all being given Type-O blood, because it can be used universally. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family . . . We are working with the state to resolve the situation as quickly as possible,” said Ian Michaels, spokesman for the city Health and Hospitals Corporation. We feel for his family. People put their trust in doctors and die anyway. SMH. Shutterstock

For Discussion: They Say They Don’t Care, But Did The Use Of The Word “Cr*cker” Really Decide This Case? [Video]

Some white folks will tell you “Cra*ker” is not offensive to them and some will say they dont know what it means, but like the George Zimmerman jury… it must have meant something to them and made them feel some kind of way. Why else would they ask for the meaning? The jury asking for the meaning means they probably are disassociated with black people… besides work or tv. Dare we say, some of the jury probably doesn’t associate with black people… period. The census of all the reporters and contributors is basic… white people (for the most part) believe Zimmerman is not guilty, and on the opposite side… most blacks believe Zimmerman IS guilty. One Fox analysts said “Trayvon is the racist” after hearing the cr*cker statement. The jury must’ve felt the same way, or how else could you justify an unarmed boy being killed by a vigilante? Then we hear about the crime in the neighborhood and how it was done by black people. So, this is a justification in the minds of the jurors to kill an unarmed teen. Some of the staff are really upset while others here feel more compelled to help the totality of gun violence in the ghettos and hoods across America. “Why are you so mad at Zimmerman, but not at the countless number of black lives lost to gang violence?” Some staff have kids and some don’t… that seems to be the deciding factor in this argument. Good points…but what do you all think? youtube

Letters: AOLer Kennedy’s Assange ‘rape’ coverage deserves notice

Dana Kennedy reports that Julian Assange‘s alleged crime isn’t violent rape, but his trouble with the law “apparently stems from a condom malfunction.” David Cay Johnston writes: “If Kennedy is right, and at a minimum her report deserves to be checked out today, then our best news organizations are behaving more like (to borrow a hoary newspaper phrase) those ‘semi-official’ newspapers and broadcast outlets that reliably convey official government truths.” From DAVID CAY JOHNSTON: The first rule of journalism — check it out — seems to have been forgotten by every journalist in the world writing about the Swedish “rape” charges against Julian Assange. The exception is Dana Kennedy of AOL. Kennedy reports that the charge against Assange is not “rape” or anything close to the violent, or at least coercive, crime implied by that word. The actual crime Assange is suspected of “apparently stems from a condom malfunction,” Kennedy wrote. Put another way, in Sweden it may be a crime if a condom comes off during consensual relations. How would such a crime be proven, absent exceptionally revealing videotape or a confession? Would anyone reasonably think of this as “rape” in the everyday sense that word is used by American news organizations? Our best news organizations — The NYTimes, WashPost, WSJ, LATimes, USA Today, AP, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, PBS and Reuters — all used “rape” as the crime at issue with little to no nuance, clips at Google News show. None, as best I can tell, reported that the crime in question is condom slippage. While it is true that the word “rape” was attributed to Swedish authorities by each of these news organizations, that is not enough. Accurate and nuanced translations — linguistic, legal and cultural — are necessary. So is asking precisely what the law in Sweden is and what precisely the accusers assert. Asking for a statutory citation and then getting expert analysis of the law would be a smart move. As journalists we are supposed to carefully check and crosscheck facts. We are also supposed to independent. We are not supposed to take anyone’s word for it, especially not in a case where governments have a powerful interest in silencing someone. If Kennedy is right, and at a minimum her report deserves to be checked out today, then our best news organizations are behaving more like (to borrow a hoary newspaper phrase) those “semi-official” newspapers and broadcast outlets that reliably convey official government truths. Kennedy also reports that the Swedish prosecutor, Marianne Ny, “has been active in the proposed reforms of Swedish rape laws that would, if passed, involve an investigation of whether an imbalance in power between two people could void one person’s insistence that the sex was consensual.” The line above is another subtlety not conveyed in news reports I examined. Kennedy did not speak to me about this — I merely read her article by chance and was struck by how it stood out from the lazy, uncritical reporting I had read and heard. I then expected to see follow-ups that either advanced her report or knocked it down. Instead, nothing has been pursued either way. My hope here is that the top editors at the organizations named above will immediately call or email their reporters and tell them to check out Kennedy’s story and find out the actual facts. Better yet, the reporters whose bylines were atop stories about this will act on their own. Ombudsmen and reader/listener/viewer representatives should also be raising questions within their organizations and reporting on what they find out. http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/romenesko/109607/letters-aoler-kennedys-assan… added by: ras_menelik

Kids Directing Air Traffic At JFK

BUSINESS BUZZ : Today's FAA scandal involves an air traffic controller who not only Took His Kid To Work but then allowed his kid to actually direct planes. If you listen to the audio, you will discover the kid did a pretty good job! Why is everyone being so AGEIST? The Best Links: “Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic,” the FAA said in a statement. “This behavior is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees.” The agency declined to comment beyond the statement. Listen here. It’s fun to watch the reporters try to gin up outrage over the potential peril this situation put passengers in. I mean, it’s much easier to talk about that than about the woefully inadequate system of child care we have in this country, right? Read

CNN’s Rick Sanchez: Exponentially More Assy Than Usual, Not a Fan of Metric System [Reporters]

Bloggers are now noting CNN’s Rick Sanchez , while covering the Chilean earthquake and oncoming tsunami in Hawaii, acted in a manner befitting “an ejaculation that should have been swallowed .” If you have video of this, shout . Update! We’ve got video. Rick Sanchez, to a scientist: “Nine meters in English is what?” Ha. In Portuguese, now! Also, via Dan “Slim Shady” Abrams’ Mediaite, Drew Grant grabs video . Highlights: 1:37 : Rick Sanchez trying to explain to his viewers, who are apparently too stupid to understand the most basic law of “every reaction” physics: “The yang of that yin..” 1:46 : Rich Sanchez screaming at this poor weather nerd: “I’m not asking you to do 27 to 27, I’m asking you if there’s a drop, will there be an increase?!?” Also, more Rick “No Shit, Sherlock” Sanchez here: 2:20 : ” But what we can say is—tell me if I’m wrong—there is a tsunami there, and it was just detected, that it caused a 27-foot drop. ” Maybe if he lived life like fellow anchor Jeffrey Toobin— Toobinstyle —he wouldn’t be so anal. Or at least, anal like this. If you know what I mean. I’m talking about Jeffrey Toobin being an ass man . An ass sex man. But for now, Rick Sanchez is just an asshole.
