James T. Hodgkinson: Identified as Alexandria Shooter; What Do We Know About Him?

James T. Hodgkinson has been identified as the man who opened fire with a semiautomatic weapon on Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia. As previously reported, the incident took place around 7 a.m. on a baseball field where Republican Congressmen were taking batting and fielding practice. Five people were reportedly injured in the attack, most prominent among then Representative Steve Scalise from Louisiana . He’s been listed in stable condition and his office confirmed that Scalise was in “good spirits” upon wheeled in for surgery at a local hospital. Rand Paul was among those present during the attack and described the baseball field as a “killing field” during an interview on Morning Joe . He said the death toll would have been unimaginable if not for the swift actions of Capitol Police. Added Congressman Mo Brooks, who estimates that Hodgkinson fired at minimum 50 rounds before authorities took him out. “I see a rifle… I hear another blam… at the same time I heard Steve Scalise scream. He was shot… It sure as heck wasn’t an accident. He was going after elected officials.” It has since been confirmed that Hodgkinson asked someone close to the baseball field whether the man playing on it were Republicans or Democrats. As of 9:45 a.m. EST, Steve Scalise was in stable condition and entering surgery following a heinous attack orchestrated by James T. Hodgkinson. “We may have our differences, but we do well, in times like these, to remember that everyone who serves in our nation’s capital is here because, above all, they love our country,” President Trump said in a statement, adding: “We can all agree that we are blessed to be Americans, that our children deserve to grow up in a nation of safety and peace, and that we are strongest when we are unified and when we work together for the common good.” “Please take a moment today to cherish those you love, and always remember those who serve and keep us safe. God bless them all, God bless you, and God Bless America.” The President also confirmed that James T. Hodgkinson is dead from the injuries he sustained upon exchanging gunfire with officers. This is what we know about James T. Hodgkinson: – He was a 66-year old resident of Belleville, Illinois. – He belonged to a number of anti-Republican groups, including one called “Terminate the Republican Party.” – He was a licensed home inspector from 1994 to 1997 and also from 2003 through 2016. – Two days ago, Hodgkinson shared an angry tweet about President Trump on Facebook. It reads as follows: I Want to Say Mr. President, for being an ass hole you are Truly the Biggest Ass Hole We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office. –  He has been arrested or cited for such offenses such as: Failing to obtain electrical permits, damaging a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, eluding police, criminal damage to property, driving under the influence and assorted traffic violations. Hodgkinson also volunteered for the Presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders in 2016. Upon learning this piece of information, Sanders released the following statement: “I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be: “Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.” Law enforcement officials say there’s no reason to believe the assailant had ties to international terrorism. Two firearms, a rifle and a handgun, were recovered from the scene, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say. The shooting also wounded two members of a dignitary protection unit of the U.S. Capitol Police,. along with two members of the Capitol Police. All are in good condition.

Amanda Stanton SLAMS Mom-Shamers, Defends Being on Bachelor in Paradise

Amanda Stanton knows the double-edged sword of social media all too well. She’s competed on The Bachelor and signed up for two seasons of Bachelor in Paradise , but what’s drawn the ire of fans and followers isn’t her reality show antics — but her parenting. So now she’s taken to Instagram to BLAST mom-shamers who think that she’s neglecting her kids. “I don’t normally like to address the trolls/mom shamers … but it’s so out of control!” We don’t usually recommend addressing trolls, but we know how irresistible the temptation can be. And in this case, we’re glad that she did. “I’d like to take a moment to clarify first of all that my kids DO have a father that is part of their life. They spend time with him too.” We wonder how many of the mom-shamers just don’t understand how custody arrangements work. “So if you see a photo of me without my kids one weekend and comment something like ‘mother of the year’ or ‘wow shouldn’t she be with her kids?’ Well, there’s a VERY good chance that I can’t be with them because they’re with their dad.” Children should always come first for any parent, but they don’t need to spend every moment when they’re apart from their children laying about despondently like they’re on a commercial for depression meds. Her post went out before Bachelor in Paradise ‘s production was shut down and everyone was sent home, so she also defended her decision to appear on the show’s fourth season . “As far as Bachelor in Paradise goes, it doesn’t film for very long at ALL. I know it airs for 2 months … but it actually takes a lot less than that to film it.” Now, Amanda, isn’t saying that that going to ruin the TV magic? We kid, of course. Any TV magic that Bachelor in Paradise might have used to make viewers forget the true nature of reality television was pretty effectively neutralized. You know, by the whole sexual misconduct investigation . You’d think that after her relationship with Josh Murray ended disastrously , she’d have learned her lesson about using reality TV to actually find a partner, but she decided to do another season. But you know what? If it works, it works. And if it doesn’t work, she still brings in more money to give her children an even better life. That’s our take, anyway. Though clearly this season of Bachelor in Paradise hasn’t worked out as planned and may never actually happen. “I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home and spend more time with my kids than most parents.” Brag much? We know that she’s trying to be reassuring, but some parents are tormented by how much of their children’s lives they miss because of work. Anyway, the rest of her message is kinder. She explains that when she’s filming, her children stay with their father or grandparents. Which makes sense — that’s usually how life works, it’s just that most people are on work trips or something instead of filming. Then she talks about how, you know, different parents lead different lives, but this time sounding a little less snooty about it than she did when she bragged about working from home. “I understand that most parents don’t go on reality TV shows … but everyone’s lives are different. … My kids are my entire world. I am doing my best to give them a great life.” And, honestly, that’s why we have to come down on her side, more than anything else. Fame can be toxic, but a little fame and the money that can come with it can make the difference between a good life and a great one. How many kids wish that their parents had gotten opportunities like Amanda Stanton has? Can you imagine how her children would react if they grew older and learned that she’d declined the chance to pursue a reality career because she wanted to spend every minute with them? She’s not dropping them off at the mall to wander around for hours (they’re 3 and 4), she’s leaving them with their relatives who love them. Some cases of parent-shaming are well-deserved . B these mom-shamers sound like their families never knew to cut the umbilical cord. And, if their wanted her to spend time with her kids instead of filming Bachelor in Paradise , then wish granted — for now, at least. View Slideshow: Bachelor in Paradise Season 4: Who’s In?!?

Christina Grimmie: Family Thanks Fans for Support in Heartbreaking Statement

Will there ever be a time when simply hearing Christina Grimmie’s name doesn’t bring a tear to your eye and an ache to your heart. Honestly, probably not. Christina was just 22 years old, all set to be a huge pop star, when she was murdered after a concert in Orlando . A man named Kevin Loibl — who, by several accounts, was very unhealthily obsessed with Christina — approached her while she was signing autographs and shot her. Her brother Marcus was able to wrestle Loibl to the ground, but the shooter quickly turned his gun on himself. To call it a nightmare would be a huge understatement, obviously, but the nightmare continues on to this day: the Grimmie family is in the middle of a legal battle against the entertainment company that owns the venue where Christina died. The issue, the Grimmies believe, was that the venue didn’t have appropriate security in place to protect the performers, or anyone, really. And that’s a fair point, considering Loibl was able to waltz in with two handguns. It must be terrible for her family to have to deal with a legal battle along with their unimaginable grief, but one thing is for sure: Christina’s fans are, to this day, a source of comfort for them. And they said as much in a touching message shared to Christina’s Twitter account. See, Christina won a Teen Choice Award last July — she was named Choice Web Star in the Music category. Her fans took issue with the show at the time, since Christina’s award wasn’t announced during the broadcast of the awards show. In fact, her name wasn’t mentioned even once . It seemed like a pretty big oversight, considering that the Teen Choice Awards aired just a month after her murder. When you consider that they also included an entire tribute dedicated to victims of gun violence and their surviving family members, still with no mention of Christina … yeah, her fans were upset. But it seems like after all these months, the Teen Choice Awards pulled it together long enough to get Christina’s award to her family. About time, right? Her parents shared the picture of the award: Along with the photo, they thanked “#TeanGrimmie” for helping them finally get the award. “Your commitment to Christina’s legacy and making your voice heard online is a blessing to us,” they wrote. “We also acknowledge those who supported behind the scenes to make this a reality.” “Thank you with love!” And Christina’s fans were quick to share their ongoing support. “She deserved this more than anyone else,” one person commented, and another said “We won’t let her be forgotten.” View Slideshow: Christina Grimmie Shooting Death: Stars Pay Tribute to The Voice Alum One fan wrote “I’m so happy. Christina deserved that award and I’m sure she is smiling in heaven. God bless all.” We’re not crying. You’re crying.

Josh Murray & Amanda Stanton: We’re Working Things Out!

Even if you’ve never been there, you probably have a friend who has: Sometimes a relationship starts too fast in the beginning, and falls apart just as quickly, but while everyone on the outside can see that it just wasn’t meant to be, neither of the parties involved can let it go. That’s the situation that Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton find themselves in, and sadly, it seems they’re not yet willing to give on their lifeless corpse of a relationship. The first hint that Murray and Stanton are back together came last month, when the couple was spotted out and about together in LA. Shortly thereafter, Murray seemed to confirm the reconciliation with a series of cryptic tweets about the joys of staying in an unhealthy relationship. “Crazies stick with crazies #breakovermorepackingtodo,” Murray tweeted at one point. In case you missed it, Murray and Stanton got engaged after hitting it off on The Bachelor in Paradise, ABC’s social experiment designed to determine if couples are more likely to get married if they meet in a hot climate while drunk on Mai Tais. To the surprise of literally no one (probably including the couple themselves) Josh and Amanda broke up shortly thereafter. Now, however, Josh says he and Amanda are serious about patching things up” “I wouldn’t say we’re back together, but we’re working on things right now,” he said on The Domenik Nati Show. “There’s a lot of things that happened, there were a lot of struggles… For me, I know when I’m in a relationship I want to be with somebody who’s my best friend, who I can trust, who I can be with all the time. We have to get to that point for anything to work out.” He added: “After the show, it was very difficult, just how everything was shown and portrayed. “We had a great time, we fell in love, we thought everything was great, and then it was tough during the season.” “So we kind of had to fight an uphill battle for a little while, and it wasn’t an easy thing to do. But right now, we saw each other about a week ago back in Los Angeles, and there’s a lot of things we need to talk about.” But don’t thinking that Josh is open to the idea of reconciling with any of his other exes. Asked if he would consider giving his relationship with Andi Dorfman another chance, Stanton was firm in his response: “Absolutely not,” there’s no chance,” he replied. “I really could care less about even talking to her again. He added: “When I ended that relationship a while ago, that was the last time I spoke with her and I don’t intend to do that again.” It’s good that Josh knows his limits. You should really try to stick on one ill-advised reconciliation at a time. Best of luck, you crazy kids!

Emmy Awards 2016: Who Will Win? Who SHOULD Win?

The 68th annual Primetime Emmy Awards air on Sunday, September 18. They will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and they will pay homage to the top shows and and stars on television. Who do we think will win the top prizes? Who do we think SHOULD win the top prizes? Find out below! 1. WILL Win: Best Drama Game of Thrones. It won in 2015 and it’s the most universally beloved show on television. Now that voters have overcome their hesitancy to reward a genre series such as this, it may never lose again. 2. SHOULD Win: Best Drama The Americans. It’s a miracle it’s even nominated. It has no chance of winning. But it’s the best show on television with the two best lead actors/actresses on television. 3. WILL Win: Best Comedy Transparent. It probably shouldn’t be in this category, but voters have recognized lead Jeffry Tambor in the past. Now they will salute the entire series. 4. SHOULD Win: Best Comedy Veep. It’s the funniest show on TV. This is an award for comedy, right? 5. WILL Win: Best Actor in a Drama Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul. The Emmys can’t keep rewarding House of Cards when it keeps getting worse (right?), so that takes Kevin Spacey out of the running. The other options seem a bit too out there, while Odenkirk has shown shocking versality and vulnerable on this Breaking Bad spinoff. 6. SHOULD Win: Best Actor in a Drama Rami Malek, Mr. Robot. Easily the most captivating and memorable performance on TV in the last year. A true standout. View Slideshow

Amanda Stanton: Single Moms Should NOT Give Up On Love!

Amanda Stanton was one of the most genuine Bachelor in Paradise stars this summer.  She went on the show to try and find a suitor who would love her for her and she accomplished that goal.  She was initially paired up with Nick Viall, but her attention changed to Josh Murray when he arrived at the beautiful Mexican home all of the contestants shared.  This did not sit well with Nick, who previously butted heads with Murray on The Bachelorette.  If you recall, Josh Murray won Andi Dorfman’s heart on his season of the show.  Like most The Bachelor franchise relationships, their pairing did not last very long.  Dorfman even released a tell-all book that chronicled part of her relationship with Murray.  However, it appears that Amanda Stanton and Josh Murray are totally head over heels.  They are engaged and things appear to be going rather smoothly for them.  Josh Murray, Amanda Stanton on Bachelor in Paradise Stanton has now revealed that she was embarrassed about not having a perfect family after things went south for her and ex-husband, Nick Buonfiglio. The reality TV star has now took to her blog to reveal that single moms should not give up on love. “I became a single mother when Kinsley was barely 2 and Charlie was a newborn,” Stanton shares. “My parents moved halfway across the country to St. Louis six months prior, I was trying to lose the 40 pounds I gained during pregnancy, still breastfeeding and throwing a pity party for myself while living in a family friend’s house in Malibu.” “Meanwhile, their father was dating multiple girls he was meeting on Tinder, became a regular at the local bars and was going on trips to Vegas with his friends every other weekend.” “I remember thinking it was so unfair that he could just break up our family and then go back to living his life the way he did pre-children while my world completely revolved around them.” It is nice that Stanton thought it was necessary to give fans this insight into what went down after her relationship concluded.  It’s clear she’s a great mother to both of her kids. There’s even reports they like Murray, too.  It’s kind of a win-win situation. It’s great that things are going great from them and that wedding bells are ringing.  Josh has been one of the more popular contestants on the franchise in recent years, so there’s a good chance that the two of them could get their own spin-off.  There’s something about them that’s infinitely more interesting than Ben & Lauren.  Only Freefrom cares about their next chapter.  What do you think of the blog post? Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton: Moving in Together!

Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton of Bachelor in Paradise fame have brought a little piece of Paradise home. They’re moving in together! The former winner of The Bachelorette tells Us Weekly that not only are he and Amanda still a couple, they’re going to the next level . “Things are going amazing,” says the 32-year-old, who moved from Atlanta, Ga., to Stanton’s apartment in Irvine, California, this summer. “I 100 percent believe that Amanda is somebody who I could spend the rest of my life with,” the former fiance of Andi Dorfman gushed. Stanton, 26, the mother of daughters Kinsley, 4, and Charlie, 2, is equally smitten when it comes to her future with Josh Murray. “He’s so dedicated and so loyal,” she says. “He’s sweet and thoughtful and caring – it’s not just something he turns on for the cameras.” Josh Murray, Amanda Stanton on Bachelor in Paradise It certainly didn’t come easily for the lovebirds. Since Murray first arrived in Paradise , his motives were questioned by his costars, namely his one-time Bachelorette nemesis Nick Viall. Josh and Nick, famously the final two vying for Andi’s heart on The Bachelorette , found themselves in a similar position once again here. Nick, too, longed for fair Amanda. No dice. Irked that Stanton had chosen Murray over him, he openly questioned whether Murray’s aim in pursuing her was simply to spite him. Not the worst assumption of all time, especially if you watch Bachelor in Paradise online . But moving cross-country for her feels legit. Amanda Stanton slammed Nick as the phony one, defending Josh (and her decision to pick Josh), who she has certainly stuck behind. Then there’s Evan Bass. Oh, Evan Bass … View Slideshow: Bachelor in Paradise Season 3: Who’s In?!? The oddball ED specialist had a pretty big crush on the blonde beauty as well, and went to even greater lengths to thwart Josh on TV. Clearly, Amanda must like him a lot! In Evan’s case, he warned Stanton that Dorfman had blasted him in her recent tell-all as being emotionally abusive; he called this “fiction.” Stanton says she won’t be reading Andi’s tome, because “I know Josh pretty well now myself, so it’s not something I’m worried about.” “There are two sides to every story.” View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Stars: Ranked By Relationship Length! As for whether he may be The One? “I definitely want to get married again. I do want more kids eventually. I have my hands full right now, but somewhere along the road … yes!”  Here’s wishing these two nothing but the best … even if we still think Murray’s reputation as a temperamental hothead is cause for concern.

‘A Complete and Utter Lie’: The Fact, Fiction and Fury Behind John Carter’s Woes

A trade report last month suggested that Disney’s March sci-fi tent pole John Carter was in serious trouble owing to Pixar vet Andrew Stanton ’s relative inexperience directing live-action film, citing rumors that production reshoots and late-game rejiggering had bloated the budget from $200 million to as much as $300 million. Speaking with press Thursday, Stanton called the report “a complete and utter lie,” insisting that he stayed on time and on budget – but it’s easy to see how the Pixar way of moviemaking may have made for a bumpy transition for the filmmaker. John Carter , adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Barsoom sci-fi/fantasy series (created in 1912), introduces a hero and world that influenced many an iconic property that followed, from Star Wars to Avatar ; Stanton, a lifelong fan of the series, makes his live-action directing debut with the pic which combines live-action and CG to create an entirely new world on which its titular hero ( Taylor Kitsch ) finds himself a stranger in a strange land populated by eight-foot tall, four-armed aliens and fantastical creatures. The scope and detail of John Carter ’s alien world and its inhabitants is ambitious, which is both the draw and the risk. The Hollywood Reporter ’s Jan. 19 report cited insiders close to the production and talent in its assessment calling the costly Disney actioner out as being plagued with various problems stemming from Stanton’s inexperience with live-action filmmaking. “Industry sources with links to the project believe it might lead to a staggering write-down,” wrote Kim Masters, portending doom for the ambitious potential trilogy-starter. At the film’s press junket, Stanton and Co. were eager to refute the rumors. “I want to go completely on record that I literally was on budget and on time the entire shoot,” Stanton said. “Disney is so completely psyched that I stayed on budget and on time that they let me have a longer reshoot because I was such a good citizen, so I find it ironic that we’re getting accused of the opposite.” That said, Stanton and producer Lindsey Collins confirmed that the process of hammering out the John Carter story was a long and laborious one even after a first cut of the film was submitted. Collins, a Pixar producer who worked with Stanton on WALL-E , described it as a learning process for translating the Pixar way of doing things into huge-scale live-action filmmaking – first working out the basics, then moving around the pieces until a satisfying film falls into place. “It’s the way we’ve always worked and certainly at Pixar that’s how we work – we get it all up there and put it up and we watch it and go, ‘That’s not working, let’s move that over here,’” she said. “So it doesn’t surprise me at all that that’s how Andrew worked on this one.” That process has resulted in stellar storytelling at Pixar, where films are famously developed and worked over for years with seasoned teams of writers and animators before coming together. The problem comes when that way of working is applied to a project like John Carter , in which live-action footage must first be shot with actors against green screen, sent off to VFX houses to be merged with CG environments, creatures, and effects, and then returned in order to even begin the editing process. Because of his background, Stanton was involved in the animation process more than many directors might have been. The level of involvement was unusually demanding of visual effects vendors who were working on various moving parts with the director, according to Collins. “[Stanton] himself was drawing in all of these draw-overs,” she said, “because when you shoot that stuff 90% of it’s not there. He’s actually cut together these shots of Taylor, by himself, acting to nothing. Andrew was like, for us to be able to look at it narratively I have to be able to draw in these other characters that should be there. It was the only way that we could watch it as a narrative film and see what’s working and what’s not, ‘That’s dragging or that’s playing too fast’ or ‘I don’t understand what’s happening here.’” As reported by THR , even after putting together a first cut Stanton was rewriting major character arcs and story sequence. The lead female character of Martian princess Dejah Thoris, played by actress Lynn Collins, wasn’t quite as strong initially as she is in the final cut, according to producer Collins. Stanton then rearranged key character reveals and scenes — nothing new or shocking to any filmmaking process, live-action or otherwise, but a process that could become incredibly demanding of resources if story was still being hammered out after principal photography. Meanwhile, rumors of skyrocketing budgets aren’t the only issues facing John Carter , which opens March 9. Poor tracking numbers and audience confusion about the project are also concerns Disney is trying to address in the weeks leading up to release. The film’s title, for one, was changed from John Carter of Mars to John Carter to avoid too much of a science fiction/genre association to general audiences, but the truncated title now leaves those unfamiliar with the Burroughs book scratching their heads wondering what John Carter is about. Despite a great initial trailer , subsequent spots have lent too much of a Star Wars feel to the proceedings, and the studio is scrambling to convey that the John Carter of Mars tale isn’t derivative of many of the genre properties of the last few decades, but is in fact the series that spawned many of them. But while nobody’s talking yet in definitive terms about sequels, Stanton’s already prepared to continue; he’s already outlined a full trilogy, filtering the entire John Carter saga down from eleven books, and last week delivered a 25-page outline for the first sequel.
