Afrojack Talks His Part In Chris Brown’s ‘Look At Me Now’

Dutch dance producer tells MTV News how he contributed to C. Breezy’s Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Diplo collabo. By Akshay Bhansali Afrojack in an MTV News Skype interview Photo: MTV News Afrojack already had reason to celebrate as he headed into the New Year. The Dutch dance-music producer’s pop-dance single “Take Over Control,” featuring singer Eva Simons, made the top 25 on Billboard ‘s Dance/Club Play Songs chart in December. And now his second U.S. release, packed with hip-hop heavy-hitters, seems primed for chart success. MTV News caught up with the EDM producer (born Nick van de Wall) for a skype chat last week, and he talked about his contribution to Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” the latest offering from the singer’s upcoming F.A.M.E. album. The track is a fast-rapping flurry of awesome self-indulgence courtesy of Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne and Chris, with an eerie downtempo beat cooked up by chefs Afrojack and Diplo. The pair of producers previously collaborated on “Pon De floor,” off Diplo’s Major Lazer full-length release, and according to Afrojack, “Look at Me Now” is the product of a beat he’d passed along to the Philadelphia beatsmith. “Yeah, Diplo called me,” Afrojack recalled. “He was like, ‘We are in the studio right now, and we are gonna do a track on the beat.’ And I was like, ‘OK, whatever. Have fun.’ ” Eventually, “Look at Me Now,” was born. While Afrojack sounded casual about the song’s evolution, he said he’s certainly pleased with the finished product. “I just love these kind of people on a track like this,” he said. “It’s like hip-hop, but really weird kind of hip-hop. “Busta’s verse on it is really sick,” he continued. “It’s like I can’t even hear what he said, but I love the part where he goes [ mimics Busta’s rapid flow ], and then pauses and goes rapping really quickly. And I don’t know how to do it, I don’t even try. But it was really, really cool.” So what’s next for Afrojack? Apart from working on a remix for Pitbull , he premiered a new single exclusively for MTV News that we will be sharing with you very soon. All you Afrojack fans stay tuned! Daft Punk’s ‘Tron Legacy’ Score: Five Secrets Revealed

‘They weren’t shooting for a Daft Punk record. They wanted to create a full-bodied, timeless score,’ film’s music supervisor Jason Bentley says. By Eric Ditzian Daft Punk Photo: Disney Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter rock sleek robot helmets in public, rarely submit to interviews and have left electronic-music fans wondering for more than two decades, “Just who are the dudes from Daft Punk?” Now, thanks to their collaborative work on the “Tron Legacy” score, the curtain shielding the French duo from the public eye has been pulled back perhaps farther than ever before. Music supervisor Jason Bentley (“The Matrix” trilogy) worked with de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter for two years on the project, and in a wide-ranging interview, Bentley gave MTV News all sorts of insight into Daft Punk’s creative process and what they’re like to hang out with on a day-to-day basis. Here are five secrets revealed about Daft Punk and their “Tron” score . Daft Punk Might Make a Film in the Future It took a year for Bentley and director Joseph Kosinski to convince the group to take part in “Tron Legacy,” Disney’s follow-up to the 1982 original about a man sucked into a computer world and forced to engage in trippy gladiatorial games. The commitment would mean no touring and no other work for a full two years. So what finally convinced them to do it? Daft Punk might have their eyes on making their own movies. “They were looking at this as much more than a composer gig,” Bentley told us. “It was going to be an education in filmmaking. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made movies from here. There were too many questions about lighting and cameras and lenses or effects. The Daft Punk guys are very, very interested in filmmaking.” Daft Punk Look Like Gorillaz Characters What do Daft Punk look like beneath those helmets? According to Bentley, just picture two animated creatures. “You know the animation style of Gorillaz? They totally look like characters out of Gorillaz videos. It’s pretty funny. I’d turn around, and whether they were working or walking across a lot to meet me, I’d chuckle to myself because they’re just the oddest couple.” Bentley went on to joke that they hardly need to wear the robot outfits “because they’re such colorful characters.” De Homem-Christo, he explained, “is the quiet one. You’ll think he’s not listening or there’s a language issue, but it’ll turn out he’s been listening to everything.” Bangalter, meanwhile, “is much more expressive and almost overcompensates for Guy-Man.” Daft Punk Are Huge Pop Culture Nerds When Daft Punk set out to score “Tron Legacy,” they had one goal in mind: to make an iconic film score. “They’re such huge fans of popular culture,” said Bentley. “The score that they set out to make was one that could stand with ‘Star Wars’ or ‘Superman.’ They weren’t shooting for a Daft Punk record. They wanted to create a full-bodied, timeless score.” The guys could often be spotted wearing “Back to the Future” T-shirts on the Disney lot. And Bentley recalled a time when they were all in a van together and Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” came on the radio. Daft Punk then launched into a highly detailed deconstruction of the song’s 1992 music video starring Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour. “It was so crazy how vivid it was in their minds,” Bentley laughed. The “Tron” Score Is Better Than The “Matrix” Scores We’ll let Bentley explain this one. “What’s amazing is how for the score, they fused the acoustic orchestral layer, the electronic layer — big kick drums or synth lines — and the granular, atmospheric level. I was the music supervisor for ‘The Matrix’ trilogy and we tried to merge those three layers and I think we did pretty good, but I don’t think we nailed it. The problem was we were putting two different mind-sets in the room. It was our composer, Don Davis, who was fully on the orchestral side, and then we were introducing electronic people to him like Fluke or Rob D or Juno Reactor. We just didn’t get a unified concept. With Daft Punk on ‘Tron,’ you feel that unified vision. ” ‘Solar Sailor’ is a really good example of that,” he added of one track. “It’s not an easy task to bring those two worlds together, orchestral and electronic. It can sound really clunky. But for ‘Solar Sailor,’ you can hear the strings coming in, and they fused that with the other layers. It’s amazing.” Daft Punk’s Cameo Started Out as a Joke The group’s presence is, of course, felt throughout the film, but Daft Punk actually show up for a cameo toward the end of the film. They play DJs in the computer world’s after-hours hot spot called the End of the Line club. The cameo is a satisfying bit of insider hat-tipping on the part of the filmmakers … and it started out as a joke. “It was Joe Kosinski’s idea,” said Bentley. “At first it was just a jokey, amusing fantasy and it stuck. They liked the idea and just went with it.” Almost all of the material the DJs play in the club made it onto the “Tron” soundtrack, except for one track. “The second of three cues — that cue did not make the soundtrack,” Bentley explained. “No one has noticed that. It’s somewhat in limbo. I don’t know if it will come out as a Daft Punk track or bonus material. It’s damn good, and who knows where it will end up?” Check out everything we’ve got on “Tron Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Tricky Stewart Defends New Michael Jackson Tune, ‘Keep Your Head’

‘This was a record that [MJ] wrote and that he produced. And I just got in there,’ the producer maintains. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by James Lacsina Tricky Stewart Photo: MTV News While detractors of Michael Jackson’s Michael album cry foul over the unfinished material that makes up the bulk of the posthumous project, producer Christopher “Tricky” Stewart is insisting that his contribution to the release was material MJ put together — and finished — himself. In the case of “Keep Your Head Up,” one of the album’s biggest standouts, Stewart told MTV News that the track was not a remake of any kind. Rather, he just added minor additional production flourishes to the number. “The main thing I wanted to do was make sure that Michael would like it,” said Stewart, who has worked with Beyonc

Lil Wayne Calls Upcoming Single ‘6’7" ‘ A ‘Very Tall Record’

‘Hopefully, it shows people where I’m at lyrically,’ Weezy tells Shade 45. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Last week, Lil Wayne’s right-hand Mack Maine told MTV News that the New Orleans MC’s first expected single from Tha Carter IV, “6’7,”” would be like “A Milli” but “on steroids.” Weezy, however, corrected him on Tuesday (December 14) when he appeared on satellite radio station Shade 45’s morning show with DJ Drama and blogger Karen Civil , in his first extensive interview since his release from prison last month. ( Wayne spoke to MTV News on the red carpet of his welcome home festivities in Miami.) “It’s a monster, actually,” he told Drama. “Hopefully, it shows people where I’m at lyrically. Better than everybody.” But is “6’7″ ” a high-powered “A Milli” on steroids? “Nah,” Wayne said. “Human growth hormones. It’s a very tall record.” The track is reportedly produced by Bangladesh, who helmed the frenetic “A Mili” as well, and will feature Young Money/ Nick Cannon signee Cory Gunz. According to Wayne, he’s also preparing to shoot a video for the clip with iconic hip-hop music director Hype Williams. So far, since his release, the only new Wayne material has been his contribution to Bryan “Baby” Williams’ “Fire Flames” track. But Wayne warned that since his imprisonment, his skills have only increased. “I would say so,” he told Drama, when the DJ asked if he’d improved lyrically compared to before his time in Rikers Island. “I would say, yeah, because it don’t matter where I went, I try to be better than my last [project].” Related Photos The Evolution Of Weezy Related Artists Lil Wayne

Akon Weighs In On New Michael Jackson Tracks

Their collaboration, ‘Hold My Hand,’ was ‘preapproved,’ Akon tells MTV News about Michael track. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Akon Photo: MTV News There has been much debate over the release of new music by Michael Jackson, set for release on his album Michael , due out December 14. Some fans and some of Jackson’s collaborators, such as will.i.am, have spoken out about the release of the tracks, many of which were finished after Jackson’s death. It’s an argument that Akon, who worked with Jackson on the song “Hold My Hand,” understands. “Michael Jackson’s new album and the new releases, of course, there’s been comments about whether or not [it] should actually be released or whether it would reflect his true authenticity, but naturally because of the fact he’s not here to see it through, it definitely wouldn’t reflect what he had in mind for it because there’s other minds working for him,” Akon told MTV News about the tracks. “But I think at the end of the day, we have two choices: We can put out the little that we do have to hold onto, or we can just never ever put it out again. … The material that he did have that was finished, he would have loved to put it out. “[The songs] were created by him, now whether or not they were finished by him is a different story,” he added. “And that’s just a collective effort of all of us. It’s a double-edged sword.” Akon points out that one of those finished tracks is “Hold My Hand,” making the argument that his contribution to the album is Jackson-approved. “If he was here today, I think he would definitely approve of ‘Hold My Hand,’ because it was already preapproved,” he said. “But the rest of the songs, I’m not quite sure how far those songs went ’cause Michael’s a perfectionist. He wouldn’t let anything go unfinished. Me knowing him from my standpoint of viewing him, I’m not quite sure, because he won’t stop; he will go and go until there’s not one doubt left in his mind that this record is perfect. “So, I hope he would [have approved of the album], then again, you never know. He’s the only one that can answer that question.” Do you think the tracks should be released? Sound off in the comments below. School Named After Al Gore and Rachel ‘DDT’ Carson Built on Toxic Soil

A new school will be opening in Los Angeles next Monday that is named after Nobel Laureate Al Gore and Rachel Carson, the woman almost single-handedly responsible for DDT being banned in the ’70s. Even more delicious than the names associated with the new $75.5-million Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences is that it was built on land thought to be highly-contaminated with various chemicals which could pose a threat to students. As the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday: Critics say the campus’ location poses a long-term health risk to students and staff. School district officials insist that the Arlington Heights property is clean and safe. And they’ve pledged to check vapor monitors and groundwater wells to make sure. “Renaming this terribly contaminated school after famous environmental advocates is an affront to the great work that these individuals have done to protect the public’s health from harm,” an environmental coalition wrote in a letter to the Los Angeles Unified School District. Making sure the school is safe “would be an even better way to honor their contribution to society.” Construction crews were working at the campus up to the Labor Day weekend, replacing toxic soil with clean fill. All told, workers removed dirt from two 3,800-square-foot plots to a depth of 45 feet, space enough to hold a four-story building. The soil had contained more than a dozen underground storage tanks serving light industrial businesses. Additional contamination may have come from the underground tanks of an adjacent gas station. A barrier will stretch 45 feet down from ground level to limit future possible fuel leakage. An oil well operates across the street, but officials said they’ve found no associated risks. Like many local campuses, this school also sits above an oil field, but no oil field-related methane has been detected. Groundwater about 45 feet below the surface remains contaminated but also poses no risk, officials said. You really can’t make this stuff up. Of course, readers shouldn’t miss the irony of Carson and Gore’s names being placed on a school that could end up being hazardous to the health of attendees. After all, Carson has the blood of millions nay billions of malaria deaths on her hands as a result of her paranoid book “Silent Spring” leading to the ban of DDT many years ago. As for Gore, if he ever gets his way, and nations around the world adopt cap-and-trade programs to limit carbon dioxide emissions, millions will likely die as a result of being kept from modern forms of energy creation. As such, it’s quite fitting a school be named after these two radical environmentalists that could end up harming the very students that attend it.  On the other hand, one could make the case that if the toxic fumes don’t hurt these poor, unsuspecting young souls, the environmental nonsense they’re being taught certainly will. It’s like rain on your wedding day.

Stewart Rips Fox’s GOP Contribution, Ignores Viacom’s Dem Donations

Comedian Jon Stewart on Wednesday bashed Fox News for parent company News Corporation’s $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association. Unfortunately, Stewart failed to inform his viewers that Viacom, the parent company of Comedy Central, has so far given disproportionately to Democrats this year. Also missing in the “Daily Show” host’s attack of FNC and Glenn Beck was that News Corp. prior to this contribution had historically given more to Democrats than Republicans. Such facts were unimportant Wednesday evening, for Stewart was on another in a long line of Fox News is the devil incarnate rants (video follows with commentary): The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c News Corp. Gives Money to Republicans www.thedailyshow.com Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor Tea Party JON STEWART: I really think if anything the Republicans should be paying Fox News millions and millions of dollars.  If Stewart is indeed concerned with “following the money,” maybe he should look at the contributions by his own company. After all, according to Open Secrets, Viacom’s Political Action Committee has so far this year contributed 62 percent of its money to Democrats and only 38 percent to Republicans (h/t Lachlan Markay): In 2008, this ratio was 58 percent Democrats, 42 percent Republicans: Beyond this, as NewsBusters reported hours before Stewart made his comments, prior to this $1 million donation, News Corp. had actually given 54 percent of its donations to Democrats and 46 percent to Republicans. The “Daily Show” host didn’t mention this inconvenient truth Wednesday evening. More importantly, since for his part Stewart has historically bashed Republicans and Fox News far more than he’s attacked liberal politicians and their shills at MSNBC, maybe the Democrats should be paying Comedy Central millions and million of dollars.

Eminem’s ‘Love The Way You Lie’ Video Premieres Thursday On MTV

Tune in before ‘Jersey Shore’ at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT to see Em and Rihanna’s fiery new clip. By Kara Warner Rihanna on the set of “Love the Way You Lie” Photo: Danny Mayer/ Eric Ford/ On Location Photos Hot on the heels of Eminem’s eight VMA nominations , it was announced Tuesday (August 3) that the highly anticipated video for his latest chart-topper, “Love the Way You Lie,” will premiere Thursday on MTV at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT before “Jersey Shore.” Directed by Joseph Kahn (who has worked with Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, 50 Cent and many other superstars), the video was recently filmed in L.A. and features Rihanna, who sings the hook, along with actors Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan. Despite the photos that leaked online last week of Fox and Monaghan happily locking lips , they play “a couple going through the extremes of an abusive relationship” — a sensitive subject matter for Em and Rihanna. “Joseph and I worked pretty closely together to make sure we got this right,” Eminem said in a press release. “Trying to make this tough subject work visually is a challenge. It was great to have Rihanna, Megan and Dominic on board for this. … They really brought it and made this video super-powerful.” Rihanna — whose very public assault at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown made the topic especially sensitive for her — recently told “Access Hollywood” this was something she “needed” to do . “It’s something that, you know, [Eminem and I have] both experienced, you know, on different sides, different ends of the table,” she said. “It just was authentic. It was real. It was believable for us to do a record like that, but it was also something that needed to be done, and the way he did it was so clever. He pretty much just broke down the cycle of domestic violence, and it’s something that a lot people don’t have a lot of insight on, so this song is a really, really powerful song, and it touches a lot of people.” Judging by the intense, fiery photos that leaked from the video’s set , the clip looks to make a powerful statement and could be an early contender for next year’s Video Music Awards. At this year’s VMAs — which air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12 — Eminem’s “Not Afraid” will try to fend off the competition for Video of the Year, as well as Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video. Eminem is also nominated alongside Drake in the Best Hip-Hop Video category for his contribution to the MC’s cameo-filled “Forever.” Rihanna’s vid for “Rude Boy” is up for Best Editing. Don’t forget to tune in to MTV on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT for the premiere of Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie,” and check MTVNews.com for full coverage of the clip. Some More Miley Performing Pictures With Ass of the Day

I have spent the better part of the morning talking to a girl who was 16 and 3/4 about sex. I was doing it for research purposes, because I tend to lose touch with 16 year olds the less time I spend in Starbucks and American Apparel. She pretty much told me that she’s been fucking her 18 year old boyfriend consistently for over a year. She was a gymnast and appreciates her flexibility. She showered with a girlfriend and 3 guys just last weekend and she is down with giving blowjobs, but prefers to get fucked from behind, sometimes by more than one person, as long as they cum in her and play with her large tits, since all teenage girls have huge tits these days…. When I was 16 and 3/4 the only pussy I was getting was the fat chick who craved male attention and wanted as much cock as she could get and really was willing to put anything she found inside her. The hot girls were virgins and in longterm relationships waiting for that special night and the slutty hot girls were fucking older dudes with cars. I still got pussy…but it was nothing like the anal loving/ cock sucking/ group sex parties motherfuckers are into at 16 and 3/4 now, because of hormones in the food, the internet, oversexed population and now Miley Cyrus, who I think deserves a thank you for sacrificing her throat to make her contribution..
