Listen Up Senate: Majority of Americans Want Clean Energy Reform

Photo via the DCist Yet another poll has rolled in, revealing in clear terms — and by wide margins — that US citizens want comprehensive clean energy reform. Even if they have to pay more in energy costs . The Wall Street Journal/NBC poll , conducted by McCain pollster Bill McInturff (R), along with Peter Hart (D), found that by a stunning 2 to 1 margin, Americans want good, comprehensive energy reform that reduces carbon emissions and stimulates clean energy development. Here’s the breakdown:… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Busta Rhymes: Dream Team Is About ‘Being Bigger Than Life’

‘We haven’t given that to the fans in a long time,’ Bus says of Diddy-led supergroup that includes Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Fabolous. By Shaheem Reid Busta Rhymes Photo: MTV News Busta Rhymes says the formation of the collection of artists known as “The Dream Team” is a dream come true for fans. “It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to see artists of this magnitude come together and rock with each other as a unified front,” Busta explained on Saturday backstage at the Birthday Bash 15 concert held at Atlanta’s Philips Arena. “For one reason or another, there’s more beef than it is unity. So it’s a great thing that dudes of this caliber, just artists in general, can come together and rock and support each other’s movement. The Dream Team is pretty much that: We’re here to support each other’s movement.” When Busta does his roll call of the squad formerly known as “The Supreme Team,” he name-checks Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Fabolous, Red Caf

Crime Pays: CNN Hires Prostitute-Plying Ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer to Star in Debate Show with Kathleen Parker

The rumors were true. CNN is without shame. They are hiring disgraced Democrat Gov. Eliot Spitzer, the hypocritical “Sheriff of Wall Street” who hired high-priced hookers, as a talk-show host. Spitzer’s co-host will be pseudo-conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, who won the Pulitzer Prize for being a conservative-basher . CNN’s press release said “she describes herself as a ‘rational’ conservative.” That’s a nice way to endear her to the “irrational” conservatives who might have considered watching this show. It’s set up to be Liberal Lion vs. ‘Rational’ Lamb. Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S., the man who canceled the long-running left-right show “Crossfire” after Jon Stewart lamented they needed to “stop, stop, stop, stop, hurting America,” has reinvented the format as just the latest liberal-media attempt to rehabilitate Spitzer’s career. Klein said in a statement: “Eliot and Kathleen are beholden to no vested interest – in fact, quite the opposite: they are renowned for taking on the most powerful targets and most important causes.” They’re actually spinning this “unbeholden” Spitzer as a moralist and guardian of the public interest. CNN’s press release suggested that little prostitution thing is hardly a disqualification for such a “well-respected political mind.” They even re-used the ridiculous “Sheriff” moniker: Spitzer, a Democrat who resigned as governor in March 2008 after acknowledging visiting a prostitute, is a well respected political mind and a take-no-prisoners prosecutor who has been often referred to as the “Sheriff of Wall Street.” Parker was required by her new job to kiss Spitzer’s ring: “I’m thrilled by the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to me — and that aren’t heard often enough on television — in a conversation with one of the nation’s most brilliant, fearless and original thinkers. With Eliot Spitzer as my co-host, Wall Street and Main Street will finally meet. It can’t possibly be boring.” Last year, Parker also felt pain for Spitzer in a column knocking David Letterman for his nasty Sarah Palin joke (ever the balancer): Everyone knows by now that Letterman made fun of the Palin family’s trip to New York last week. He quipped that Palin’s daughter got “knocked up” by Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez during the seventh inning. Unable to stop his slide into the gutter, he said the hardest part of the visit was keeping Eliot Spitzer away from her daughter. How will this show cover the next politican sex scandal? Or are they hoping CNN will be the “hot corner” on those stories now?  James Poniewozik at Time has the first boos from the media establishment:  The first is not that Spitzer has been chosen despite his sex scandal. It’s that he seemingly was chosen, at least in part, because of the scandal: that is, because of the short-term blast of notoriety and buzz that he will bring with him. Now, for all I know, CNN genuinely sees special and distinctive broadcasting talent in Spitzer, but if they do, it’s eluded me in his long recent history as commentator and guest-host on CNN and MSNBC, where—to my ears, anyway—he comes off grating and supercilious. If he didn’t come with the name and the headlines, I have a hard time believing he’d been chosen on the basis of ability alone. (As for Parker, I’m not familiar enough to say whether she’s a good choice or not, though her résumé is strong enough. But I do have to guess that—call me cynical—given Spitzer’s history it would have been hard for CNN to even consider pairing him with a man. Not that the underrepresentation of men in cable news is exactly a problem, but the idea that pairing Spitzer with a woman makes his choice any better is just icky.)

12 Things Cops Don’t Want YOU to Know

More and more everyday you see on the news out of control cops abusing citizens. Cops think that everyone on the street is guilty until proven innocent, and their ways of proving you innocent; include stomping on your constitutional rights. Police officers often like to grab a hold of a situation by exerting dominance in every aspect; speech, tone of voice, body language, and overall appearance. For the average citizen this is very off-putting, their line of questioning is quick and intense and often leads to messing you up and making you look guilty of often times nothing. Once you are perceived to be guilty they will make you step out of the car and you know how it goes from there. The beat cop is the first step at putting an innocent man in jail, and often the nail in the coffin as his word trumps yours. How is it we live in a society where an obese under educated and under trained cop can tell anyone what is right and what is wrong? That is just how they treat the innocent, and all you have to do is watch cops to see how they treat the guilty. Often times it ends up with 18 obese cops piling on top of 1 relatively thin male. Then of course them telling him to stop resisting so they can add another charge, how many people do you know can move their arm with 18 people on their back? If you ask the regular Joe what rights you have when it comes with dealing with the police, you often times will hear just comply. The average Joe is not informed by really anyone that you can in essence just tell the police to fuck off. Why don’t you know? Simply because then they’d actually have to investigate instead of treating everyone like they are guilty and bending/breaking rules. I have compiled the following list of rights that you have when dealing with a police officer, state trooper, sheriff, or constable in the United States, list is subject to changes and is not meant to be taken as legal advice. 1. Miranda rights – According to the new supreme court ruling these are not required to be read to you, so if they are not you may still be in handcuffs later. However it is important to note that if you're arrested you may still remain silent as you have that right, you also may ask for your attorney. JUST SHUT UP 2. Right to search and seizure No cop has the right to search your car without asking first or probable cause has been determined. If he asks to search your car say no. If they have a warrant check it, SSN mistakes and name mistakes are common. If you last name is Johnson, a warrant for Johnsfield is bogus 3. You do not have to answer any questions a cop asks you; other than Name, Date of Birth, and Social Security Number. After that you can say I'd like to remain silent. 4. If you are truly innocent of a ticket or another violation; fight it often times they are just paid and never fought, if you fight it you can bring in all of your evidence against the officer to include his own lack of report filing and dash cam videos. 5. If you are arrested you have a right to know what for and how serious the charge. Remember this is by a street cop, if you are detained by a detective it can be up to 24 hours until they charge you. 6. Once you invoke your right to an attorney they cannot question you any further, if they do it is a 5th amendment right violation. 7. Some states take away state troopers power when they are off duty, they cannot detain you, cannot question you and cannot arrest you, be sure to check your local laws. The key to this is state troopers as legally they are only allowed to enforce laws on interstate highways. 8. If a cop asks you to step out of the car, ask why, you have a right to know why he wants you out of YOUR car. 9. If you feel he was improper with procedure file a complaint all you need is his last name and badge number. Cops do have to be friendly and courteous at all times as they represent your state/city. 10. If you have a concealed carry license and the cop asks you if you have any weapons, let him know you have a CCL and a CCW, for him to take it away from you he has to feel in danger, so be sure to hand him your license before your gun. Let him know what you are reaching for unless you like the taste of concrete. 11. Freedom of speech, you can tell a cop to go fuck himself or anything else as long as you are not threatening the officer. So saying I'm going to fucking kill you is what would land you in jail. The constitution trumps local laws. 12. Lastly remember that you are the person paying his salary, if you don’t like what he is doing no matter what it is, complain. The system never changes if you do not speak up. Cops get away with crimes and violations every day because of the lack of people speaking up and the unions. Don’t get into a fist fight with a cop as you will never win, you may beat him into a bloody lump on the concrete, but 30 of his pals are going to drop you. It is much more effective to battle him or her in court. The more strikes against that officer the harder it is for them to stay on the force. What you should take away from this is to use what you have; your brain. If you don’t like his/her questions don’t answer, if your innocent and arrested complain. Don’t lie down and take it because he has Police over his name and badge. source: http://flexyourrights.org/faq added by: Colin_McCabe

NBC’s David Gregory: White House Rhetoric ‘Anti-Business,’ ‘Could Really Discourage Businesses’ in U.S.

Wow, just wow. Never would have seen this one coming, but is one of the standard-bearers of the media elite recognizing the Obama administration’s anti-business populist tone is inhibiting the U.S. economy? On the June 18 broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” NBC “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory was asked to respond to a June 18 New York Times article by David Sanger suggesting the Obama administration may be “overstepping” and discouraging business growth in the United States. Gregory told “Squawk Box” viewers that in his view they were and called it “a real problem.” “It is, certainly beyond Washington,” Gregory explained. “You all know it talking to business leaders every day and I do speak to business leaders quite often as well and I hear it time and time again that what you got at the administration are two problems. One, you’ve got nobody in the inner sanctum of the President’s advisers who has ever run a business – who have never run a business. And that’s a real problem. I think there’s a level of recognition about that being a problem in the West Wing as well. But the rhetoric and the policy substantively, a lot of people feel, is anti-business and getting to a point where it could really discourage businesses in the United States and certainly the multinationals working here as well. That’s a problem and I think that element of criticism from Joe Barton, while off the reservation substantively, got to that larger point, which is this populist string.” Gregory elaborated on the lack of business experience in the President’s inner circle and explained it has hurt the White House’s ability to get solid policy measures in place. “I think they would like to have more people advising the President who have that business acumen,” Gregory said. “But let’s call it what it is. They made a decision early on in this financial crisis they were going to demonize anybody from Wall Street. They wouldn’t take anybody who had the quote, unquote ‘taint of Wall Street’ and that’s a problem because you have the expertise that they could have leveraged, brought inside, to try to deal with financial regulation and all the rest. He’s going to get financial reforms. But nevertheless, they made the decision, going back to the AIG mess and the bonuses. And that has carried forward.” And Gregory said he thought the White House was second-guessing their decision to take this route. “I think there is [second-guessing] because I think they recognize that, look they’re at a point on stimulus alone, who’s going to create the jobs here? Forty-one thousand private sector jobs last month. The private sector has to start to feel like it’s got more confidence to lend more, to start more business investment, to stop hoarding cash. And a lot of that is going on – again, I realize you know this better than I do because of the question marks and- all of the uncertainty coming out of Washington and particularly this administration.”

Meet the Conservative Intellectual Elite: Kathleen Parker, David Frum, Christopher Hitchens?

There’s one big problem with the presentation of “ The Party, In Exile ,” Pamela Paul’s snobby but interesting front-page Sunday Styles section piece on so-called conservatism in exile. As Karol Sheinin noted on her Twitter feed  — it doesn’t feature many actual conservatives. The caption under John Cuneo’s illustration made the disparity clear: “Insiders On The Outside: Members of the conservative intellectual elite at a party include, clockwise from left, David Frum, Michael Oren, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Christopher Hitchens, Laura Ingraham and Kathleen Parker.” Of those six names, only one (Laura Ingraham) would be unanimously waved in to a garden party strictly for “conservatives.” The prolific, peripatetic, atheist writer Christopher Hitchens, is a long-time socialist who allied with conservatives on the Iraq War and some other issues (Paul noted he is a member “of the disenchanted left”). Former Bush speechwriter David Frum’s main interest of late is lamenting the popularity of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker is an inconsistent conservative ally at best. Ayaan Hirsi Ali — in whose name the party was held — may qualify as conservative in some respects. Yet the brave feminist apostate from Islam, who currently works with the American Enterprise Institute, has only been in America for four years after being forced to flee Holland. Michael Oren is Israel’s ambassador to the U.S. Otherwise, the ambience at this intimate cocktail and buffet in honor of the Somalian-born activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali — a woman who faced death threats even before she wrote a film that led to the murder of its director, Theo van Gogh — was one of ease. Wearing a Michelle Obama-esque sleeveless emerald dress and sipping wine, Ms. Hirsi Ali, who has spent recent weeks traveling to Britain, Denmark and her former country of refuge, the Netherlands, while on tour for her new book “Nomad,” warmly met guests as they circled in admiration. “Nice to see you,” total strangers said upon introduction, as if fearing the failure to recognize someone possibly met on a previous occasion. Or perhaps in certain Washington circles people assume they already know everyone else. Either way, here at the stately Wesley Heights home of the former Bush speechwriter, David (“axis of evil”) Frum, and his wife, the writer Ms. Frum, nearly everyone did. Far from the typical New York book party, this was more a bunkering of the conservative intellectual elite, a group that domineered its way through the Bush years but is now sidelined, a somewhat baffled shadow of its former blustery self. Whither the conservative establishment in today’s bilious political landscape? Certainly the typical Tea Party denizen, with his “I Wanna Party Like It’s 1773” T-shirt and “You Lie!” trucker hat, would seem out of place on the Frums’ well-tended grounds, nibbling chicken skewers and mini-B.L.T.’s. In the presence of Ms. Hirsi Ali, at least, there was a sense of shared purpose. Paul addressed the controversies surrounding Frum, who “lost his salaried post at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, in March, after calling the passage of health care legislation the Republican party’s ‘Waterloo.'” Also present was The Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker, prom-girl pretty and winner of a Pulitzer this spring for “gracefully sharing the experiences and values that lead her to unpredictable conclusions,” including a rebuke of Sarah Palin. “Like all the best conservatives, I started off as a liberal,” she trilled. In a similar display of the intellectual right’s discomfort with Wasilla-brand populism, Ms. Frum mocked a speech by Ms. Palin in April on The Huffington Post. (“There was not a single memorable line, not a single new political idea, not a single proffered solution beyond the cliché.”) And lending a poignant immediacy to the rejiggered state of affairs was the Republican Senator Robert Bennett, ousted last month in the Utah primary for his votes on health care and Wall Street reform. A certain kind of nomad, all. If you can get past the knee-jerk “ick, Palin!” snobbery and mockery of the Tea Party movement, the latter half of Paul’s party piece contained some interesting anecdotes about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born Islamist turned crusader for women and her shunning by her supposed liberal allies. Paul, to her credit, illuminated an issue Times Watch has discussed — the prickly response from the liberal media to Hirsi Ali’s crusade for women’s rights and against Islam: Not surprisingly, though she favors both gay and abortion rights, Ms. Hirsi Ali has alienated what might otherwise be fellow liberal travelers in her crusade against religious oppression. In The New Yorker, Pankaj Mishra dismissed Ms. Hirsi Ali’s “simple oppositions” and “growing familiarity with right-wing touchstones.” The Los Angeles Times called “Nomad,” which is dedicated to the former president of A.E.I., an “anti-Islamic screed” and “a tough jeremiad to read.” The historian Timothy Garton Ash and the Dutch-born academic Ian Buruma have both written dismissively of Ms. Hirsi Ali to the point that the N.Y.U. professor Paul Berman devoted much of his new book, “The Flight of the Intellectuals,” to mounting a defense. The Times review of Berman’s tome is here.

World Cup 2010: Horns still stay silent for the underdog USA | Ed Pilkington

The USA doubled viewing figures against England but soccer remains in a halfway house between success and failure If lack of bunting in the street is any indication, America appears to be living up to its reputation for glorious isolation. While the rest of the globe is already gripped by World Cup fever, here in the US there are scant outward signs of football – or rather soccer – obsession. There are no Stars and Stripes in the windows beyond the usual patriotic quota, no cars honking horns as goals are scored. Very few papers across the country lived up to the chutzpah of the New York Post, which plastered its post-England game front page with the headline: “USA wins 1-1”. In the American heartlands excitement levels were decidedly muted by comparison, despite that impressive scoreline. The Houston Chronicle was far more interested in college American football than in the England battle, even though Saturday’s goalscorer Clint Dempsey is a local boy from Nacogdoches in Texas. But it would be wrong to imply that this country is indifferent to the World Cup. Last Saturday, sports bars across the US were packed with fans, from the 2,000 who watched the game in Studio Square in New York to thousands more who squatted in the home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team to watch the match on its big screen. About 17 million Americans watched the England game on television – a relatively piddly number compared with the 106m who sat transfixed in February as the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl. But that’s still double the viewing figures during the opening round of the 2006 World Cup, and it even outstrips the popularity of the recent Stanley Cup, the culmination of the 2009-10 season in ice hockey – a game that is considered an American staple. Christopher Harris, who runs MajorLeagueSoccerTalk.com from his home in Florida, thinks US football is finally coming of age. “At this point soccer has become a mainstream sport in television viewing, and that’s the first time you can really say that.” Jason Davis of MatchFitUSA.com is not quite so upbeat. “Soccer here is still fairly under the surface. It’s almost like a secret language – fans don’t talk about it much, because it’s hard to tell who’s into it and who’s not.” The strength of the World Cup following in America probably lies somewhere in the middle of Harris’s optimism and Davis’s uncertainty. Evidence of the sport’s halfway house between success and failure can be seen in the coverage the match against England received from the US media. Commentators felt they could only convey the significance of the game by invoking baseball lore; the beautiful game could not be allowed to speak for itself. So the magnitude of Robert Green’s mishandling of Dempsey’s shot had to be likened to the famous occasion when Bill Buckner, playing for the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series, let the ball slip through his legs, ultimately costing his team the championship. Just how far the love of the sport grows through this World Cup depends, of course, in large part on how the US team gets on, and that in turn depends on the patchy quality of its squad. Tim Howard in goal has already achieved hero status across the States after his performance on Saturday, and with players like Carlos Bocanegra and Landon Donovan the defence and mid-field are proving solid. But there are question marks surrounding the strikers – Jozy Altidore, Edson Buddle, Robbie Findley and Herculez Gomez – and their ability to score. The next challenge is Slovenia today in Johannesburg, a fixture that is filling American soccer fans with some trepidation. Both Harris and Davis expect the USA to go through to the last 16, but they are divided over the prospect of facing the mighty Germany. “We’ve got the mentality and the psychology of a strong and united team,” Harris says, “and as for Germany, USA always plays best when they are the underdog.” Davis, again, is not so sure. “If we have to face Germany, that would be difficult, and I don’t see us going on.” World Cup 2010 USA Ed Pilkington guardian.co.uk

Wikileaks Soldier Reveals Orders for "360 Rotational Fire" Against Civilians in Iraq

Ethan McCord, one of the soldiers seen in the now-famous Wikileaks video in which two American Apache helicopters fire upon a relaxed, unhurried gaggle of men in Baghdad, has stated in an interview that he witnessed numerous times the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians in Iraq after IED attacks. McCord is on of the soldiers seen helping two wounded children after the attack. McCord said to reporter Bill Van Auken: “we had a pretty gung-ho commander, who decided that because we were getting hit by IEDs a lot, there would be a new battalion SOP [standard operating procedure]. He goes, “If someone in your line gets hit with an IED, 360 rotational fire. You kill every motherfucker on the street.” Myself and Josh and a lot of other soldiers were just sitting there looking at each other like, “Are you kidding me? You want us to kill women and children on the street?” And you couldn’t just disobey orders to shoot, because they could just make your life hell in Iraq. So like with myself, I would shoot up into the roof of a building instead of down on the ground toward civilians. But I’ve seen it many times, where people are just walking down the street and an IED goes off and the troops open fire and kill them.” He has stepped forward with open opposition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and written a letter of apology for his part in the incident to the mother of the children, who has accepted his apology. The mother's husband was killed in the attack and found with his body shielding that of one of his children. added by: myhead

Obama To Earn Nearly $85 Million From Gulf Oil Disaster

Upon Obama’s taking office he staffed his administration with what is called a “Wall Street Cabinet”, including former employees of Goldman Sachs who Rolling Stone Magazine in their devastating article “The Great Bubble Machine” on this banking behemoth warned, “From tech stocks to high gas prices, Goldman Sachs has engineered every major market manipulation since the Great Depression — and they're about to do it again.” And when Rolling Stone Magazine warned that Goldman Sachs was about “to do it again” they probably didn’t even know how apocalyptic this banking giant’s machinations towards the United States really are, and as evident by the BP disaster in the Gulf when just three weeks prior to the Deepwater Horizon explosion they sold nearly half their shares of BP stocks saving for their investors billions of dollars of potential losses. Goldman Sachs wasn’t alone either in its astute “foreknowledge” of the collapse of BP’s stock value due to the Gulf disaster as BP’s own chief executive, Tony Hayward, sold about one-third of his shares weeks before this catastrophe began unfolding too. But according to this FSB report the largest seller of BP stock in the weeks before this disaster occurred was the American investment company known as Vanguard who through two of their financial arms (Vanguard Windsor II Investor and Vanguard Windsor Investor) unloaded over 1.5 million shares of BP stock saving their investors hundreds of millions of dollars, chief among them President Obama. For though little known by the American people, their President Obama holds all of his wealth in just two Vanguard funds, Vanguard 500 Index Fund where he has 3 accounts and the Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund where he holds another 3 accounts, all six of which the FSB estimates will earn Obama nearly $8.5 million a year and which over 10 years will equal the staggering sum of $85 million. The FSB further estimates in this report that through Obama’s 3 accounts in the Vanguard 500 Index Fund he stands to make another $100 million over the next 10 years as their largest stock holding is in the energy giant Exxon Mobil they believe will eventually acquire BP and all of their assets for what will be essentially a “rock bottom” price and which very predictably BP has hired Goldman Sachs to advise them on. Important to note is that none of this wealth Obama, Goldman Sachs, and other American elites is acquiring would be possible without this disaster, all of whom, as the evidence shows, “somehow” knew what was going to happen before it actually did, including the US energy giant Halliburton who 2 weeks prior to this disaster just happened to purchase the World’s largest oil disaster service company Boots & Coots. Unfortunately for the American people watching as these elites destroy their country is that they are being told none of the truth, especially about Obama, who while becoming enormously wealthy off the hardship, misery and toil of his citizens has become the only US President in history to begin jailing every government whistleblower he can find, has won the right to jail anybody he wants without charges and hold them forever, and most incredibly has claimed the right to assassinate any American citizen he deems a threat. The great American Founding Father, and the United States first President, George Washington once said, “Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession.” The American people to their great shame didn’t heed these words, now they are paying for it. http://beforeitsnews.com/story/79/527/Obama_To_Earn_Nearly_85_Million_From_Gulf_… added by: TomTucker
